  1. I use the standard LL viewer, which I'm happy with these days. I have a version of Firestorm which I use for accessing OpenSim but for SL I only use the LL viewer. There have been times in the past when the LL viewer of the day was having performance issues and so I used a third party viewer. And . . . I prefer the white puff-clouds the LL viewer has for unrezzed avatars to the orange puff-clouds of Firestorm!
  2. Not today, but yesterday 😁 I posted this on another less popular thread but this is the one I intended it to be on.
  3. Thanks for replies. I checked and it was an item I'd bought before, a long time ago, by the same creator. I couldn't see any difference between the new item of clothing and the original!
  4. Yesterday I received a notification from Marketplace that I had purchased a particular clothing item. I have no recollection of buying it, but it was there in my inventory and I even tried it on. I checked my L$ transactions on my dashboard and there was nothing that matched with this 'purchase'. No L$ were taken from my balance, but then the item could have been a freebie. It's difficult to purchase something by mistake on MP since you have to go through several stages before the purchase goes through and I haven't bought anything on MP in the last week or two. The item of clothing is similar to something I bought a long time ago. Could it be that the creator has updated their product and automatically given the update to owners of the existing item?
  5. At one time there were a lot more disused mainland plots that still belonged to residents. Quite often these plots were left open build, so they soon filled up with junk rezzed by passers by. There were one or two plots like this near where I lived. To stop them filling up with junk, I made linked objects consisting of enough cubes to use up the land allowance, shrunk them to quite a small size and made them invisible. The landowner, if they ever returned, could delete the objects.
  6. It could just be that there are coloured lights that are reflecting off the dress. I saw that effect on someone the other day. The coloured disco lights were moving and the wearer was dancing, causing the coloured reflections to flicker across the dress.
  7. Not quite a griefer attack but I got scammed out of some L$ once. In the days when land was more expensive and there were lots of small plots for sale, I was at a place where there were several 32 sq m plots for sale. They all had a price of L$110. I decided to buy one but when I paid it, said 'you have paid "xxxx" L$1110. There was a fairy hovering nearby called "xxxx". The most unusual thing was this fairy bot had a single-word name, and this was in the days when you had to choose a surname and before we had display names.
  8. I have advanced lighting on nearly all the time. I did make a setting with much lower graphics, with no shadows or particles, specifically for use on arrival at a busy venue while everything rezzes, after which I return to advanced graphics. But I find it hardly makes any difference to FPS or rezzing speed, so I don't use it much now. I find that draw distance is what affects FPS and rezzing more than anything else.
  9. Quite a number of universities and colleges set up virtual campuses in Second Life a long time ago, around the same time as big commercial companies felt the need to have a presence. Most of the commercial companies left when they realised there was no great benefit to them from being in SL but some of the academic institutions have remained as abandoned time capsules devoted to something that never quite took off. It's fun to wander round these places.
  10. Linden Lab are releasing new starter avatars, which are mesh and modifiable. Unfortunately the two that have appeared so far are disappointing.
  11. I suppose one achievement with the Senra avatars is that LL has established the new basic mesh in terms of polygons, rigging etc. so it shouldn't be difficult for LL and tame independent creators to introduce some more appealing body and head variants in the future.
  12. The Senra bodies are fully modifiable on the shape sliders. However, if you rez them in-world as objects, you can stretch the overall size in the 'build' editor but not the individual x, y or z axes. Anyway, being fitmesh, the body reverts to its original size when worn, however big or small you make it!
  13. I was hoping that the basic Senra avatars would follow the same shapes as the system avatars, but with finer definition and with the well known faults corrected. For average proportioned, fairly slim avatars, you can get realistic shapes with system avatar, they're just a bit rough round the edges. Maybe a new addition to the Senra stable could be a new 'Ruth' whose shape corresponds exactly, or very closely, to the equivalent system shape. It might have to be called something else to avoid confusion with the Ruth2 mesh av though! The launch article is headed 'Introducing Senra Beta Avatars', so they might still be a work-in-progress.
  14. The one on the right was my choice of starter avatar when I joined in 2006.
  15. The Jamie female avatar would be fine if it's part of a range of different starter bodies but you can't get away certain things, such as pushed-in baby nose, duck-beak lips, large butt and very thin ankles. I experimented also with the Blake male avatar and that seems better proportioned, whether he's thin or overweight.
  16. Thanks πŸ™‚ Even if that's true I still carry the shortcomings of all system avatars. What I was trying to say is that many people choose to give their avatars exaggerated proportions and the Senra avs wouldn't look out of place among those.
  17. It's not difficult to find worse avatars in SL dance clubs 😁 I still use a classic avatar and I have been saying that NUX might be the time to 'upgrade', as they say. So far, my experimentation with the Jamie body had not convinced me to make the change. It does have smoother, clearer definition it's let down by parts of the shape, however much you play with the sliders.
  18. Sorry to see you're leaving - best wishes for the future. As others have said, don't delete your account, though!
  19. I've worn this 3-piece plastic bracelet almost every day since 2010. And the World's Largest Paintbrush was made in Jan 2007 and has been on display for many years in the basement at Egotherapy.
  20. I could understand that LL might wish to limit the dev kits to established creators to begin with, especially if their creations are to be linked with the Senra brand. But once the NUX avatars are well established, I think the kits should be made freely available to all.
  21. There was a sort of 'dev kit' for the system avatars - the CMFF templates were essential if you wanted to make skins, tattoos or system clothes in Photoshop or Gimp and you had to obtain the templates, which were a private venture, not done by LL.
  22. I haven't seen a fiery argument about whether or not Second Life is a game on these forums for a long time😁
  23. Not sure that people have become angrier. I remember when there were a few notorious, permanently angry people who used to post a lot. There was a group called the Forum Cartel and they used to have events at the Forum Cartel Hangout. It's still there but it's always empty these days.
  24. Thanks - I tried the knee extenders some while ago. They work well with bare feet and legs but not so goof if you're wearing shoes. From what I could see when trying them out, the extra length is achieved by lengthening the ankle and upper foot - although it doesn't look like that in the picture.
