  1. Apart from trying it out when it was a new feature, I've never used voice and I have it turned off. I'd say the majority of clubs and other places I visit have voice turned off anyway. Occasionally I've been to places where there are lots of avatars standing around and chat is empty. My thought is usually that they're either all bots or they're using voice - but when I check I notice that voice is off so presumably they're bots!
  2. Congratulations! You must have been almost 'in at the beginning'. 🙂
  3. I did manage to log in to somewhere away from my home sim and get my avatar to appear. I checked the world map and it looks like about 50% of regions are offline. I must have posted this at exactly the same moment as Vicious's post above!
  4. I can't log myself in - but I can log a test alt in but only as a white puff-cloud.
  5. A few words of warning . . . Many years ago I deeded some land owned in my name to my group and immediately all my objects including my home disappeared, before my eyes. So you need to be doubly sure of permissions regarding your own objects if you deed YOUR land to YOUR group! As far as I know nothing's changed regarding group land since then, so it could still happen today.
  6. I don't think anyone's doubting that you look however you want in SL, it's more about those who want to look realistic but have difficulty achieving it because they think 'more is always better'. Dragons are mythical creatures but we can all tell the difference between a realistic dragon and an unrealistic one !
  7. I would hope the NUX avatar has all the sliders that the system one has, and that when you put on an NUX avatar, it follows the shape of the system one you're wearing at the time. What would be really great would be if the NUX avatar could have a few more sliders, such as one that moves the knees up or down the legs, one that turns feet inwards or outwards, one that adjusts basic stance before wearing an AO and one that adjusts avatar scale without altering any proportions.
  8. I met the Pope once in Second Life. I remember seeing him fly. I think he might have been am impopester!
  9. My avatar is still a 'system' one. A lot of my clothes are mesh, but this leotard isn't!
  10. I imagine textures will still benefit from some gentle painted-on highlighting and shading, especially where they are used for surfaces with lower levels of reflectivity.
  11. While we don't need mirrors in SL for practical reasons, such as checking our appearance, working flat mirrors would definitely add to the realism of the world.
  12. I still use a 'system' avatar, which is fine unless you want to take close-ups of hands or feet! I've tried mesh demos and the free Ruth 2.0 BOM, which is quite good but not what I was looking for. I'm looking forward to Linden Lab launching the NUX avatars. The preview one a few months ago looked realistic. I'm not sure we've been informed yet whether the NUX will be a new, better precision version of the 'system' avatar or a wearable mesh one. Anyway, I want to see what NUX turns out like, so I don't think LL should buy up an existing range of bodies.
  13. I was unaware there was still an option to use Windlight instead of EEP! I made my own EEP settings when it first appeared on the regular LL viewer and I'm happy with them. I do remember that the original test version of EEP on a project viewer was terrible, but that was sorted for the finished product.
  14. I'm always human - but I do have a test alt that can be anything it wants, from a 10ft tall robot to a flying flower pot. It's really just a test alt although it can occasionally be seen out clubbing. Even within SL, it's strangely liberating to escape the constraints of being your usual self and instead become something really silly for an hour or two!
  15. If it was decided some years ago that we in Europe had to pay VAT on SL membership to comply with tax laws in EU countries, I wonder what has changed. I'm not aware of any laws being changed re. VAT, either in the EU or in the UK (which has now left the EU unfortunately). Has LL simply reduced prices to make to make it look like we don't pay VAT any more? Anyway, I'm happy about the lower prices, so that's good.
  16. I have noticed this problem only yesterday. I visited a couple of old university sims that appeared to be unchanged for a decade or more. They had sandbox areas where 'about land' stated there were prims available but when I tried to rez a simple cube it said the parcel is full.
  17. Deleted because I realise all my comments were covered by previous posts. ðŸĪŠ
  18. If a creator makes something 'mod' and 'copy', then customers can make as many different versions as they like from the original. If it's no-mod, then customers have to purchase each version separately, so no-mod might lead to an increase in sales. Also . . . suppose you make a boat and texture it carefully. If a customer chooses to apply different textures to the boat, which might look awful or even include obscene slogans, then other people might assume it was your work, which reflects badly on you.
  19. It's not on the standard LL log-in screen. This features snapshots of some favourite destinations and maybe one of those shown recently might have looked a bit like the picture shown in the original post.
  20. I would just leave the post as it is and forget about it 😁
