  1. If a creator makes cars, aircraft or maybe yachts, I can understand why they'd make them no-mod. As with the red box mentioned earlier, a customer could modify your creation clumsily and you'd still be named as the creator when other people click on it for details.
  2. A big feature of SL mainland was 'ad farms', where a previous landowner had divided a plot into 16 m squares and sold them off to advertisers. Each 16m square could support 3 prims (in those days). The owners of these 16m plots used to put big advert cubes or cuboids on them, usually full-bright, hovering in the air and often spinning. There were ad farms all over the place and they had become an eyesore. LL made some new rules that saw off most ad farms. I wonder if any have been preserved as part of SL's heritage. 😁
  3. I've noticed that there are still very few Senra avatars around. The ones I do see are mostly newbie males who look like a bit like the Mark Zuckerberg avatar from Meta!
  4. The flag of England is a red cross on a white background, the St. George's cross. Note: - not to be confused with the Union Jack, which is the flag of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, which combines the flags of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
  5. One particular memory was the Great Land Price Crash of 2007 (I think). Extortionate land prices tumbled suddenly, after LL opened up a large area of new mainland. Land barons couldn't get rid of their portfolios of plots quick enough! After a few days there was loads of cheap land available.
  6. I just found the poser on the Alchemy viewer and played about with a few poses. You can find the Poser under the 'World' heading at the top of the screen. I made a couple of poses, which were OK. It seems that if you save a pose you've made to the poser's library, only you see it when it's activated. But it looks like you can export it and re-import it to make a proper pose that everyone sees.
  7. This has partially been covered here already but what I've done is this. I created a new folder, called it "My Outfits - in Folders" and then, with two inventory windows open, dragged all my outfits across into it from the original 'My Outfits' folder. Once in the new folder, you can create sub-folders for different categories of outfit. This works using the standard SL viewer, I just re-tested it. Once you've moved all your outfits to the new folder, you can delete the original 'My Outfits' one, if it hasn't already disappeared automatically.
  8. I haven't tried any other virtual worlds recently apart from OpenSim Grid, which I visit occasionally - and that looks and works exactly the same as SL, which it's based on. But in the past I've tried other worlds or watched videos of them. I tried Sinespace, which looked promising at the time. SL's 'Achilles heel' has always been performance - mainly slow rezzing and lag. But when it works properly and you happen to be in a nicely constructed environment with convincing looking avatars (even if they're dragons!), SL is amazing. So, if good performance is your priority and you're not too bothered about cartoony avatars and environment, there are probably other worlds that might appeal more.
  9. But 1 metre on the avatar height adjustment sliders does not correspond with a I metre prim. Not on the LL standard viewer, anyway.
  10. I joined SL in September 2006, so some people might consider me an 'oldbie'.
  11. If you're able to use the standard SL facial expressions, it's useful to set animation to slow motion, which gives you the opportunity to capture the expression before it reaches its full extent, to give a more subtle effect. Presumably the slow motion trick would work with Bento too.
  12. A visit to 'The Villlage', which is a replica of Portmeirion in North Wales, but with an Italian look to it
  13. I probably wouldn't spend any more time in SL if I had a big lottery win. I might buy more land, to make a country park, that's about all. 🙂
  14. Slightly off-topic, but as I've said several times, the PBR viewer had very poor performance (for me) - probably not caused by PBR itself apparently, but some other change on the viewer. Anyway - a happy ending . . . I downloaded the Alchemy viewer and it's amazing - I can go clubbing again. 🙂
  15. Re. the current performance of SL (for me), I'm wondering if it is better to have 6 torso only avatars fully rezzed or to have 3 complete SL avatars fully rezzed and 3 as peramanent clouds!
  16. Vomitdoll Lockjaw is a name I remember seeing way back.
  17. I checked this - it was on "TRUE" so I changed it to "FALSE". Sadly I don't think it made any difference.
  18. Perhaps we should have had a thread entitled "What went wrong with LL's viewer 7?" . . . as the problems might be caused by something other than PBR, as several people have said. I found, by chance, that it's possible to disable PBR by going to 'advanced' > 'rendering types' and unchecking PBR. Doing this made no difference to performance or graphics.
  19. I just went to one club as test, where there were about 40 people. It took several minutes for the first avatar to rez. I waited 20 minutes in all, by which time most of the environment textures had rezzed but only about 2/3 of the avatars. Many of the avatars that had rezzed (in form only) were still partly grey. I'm guessing the people inside the club were experiencing reasonable performance, those standing outside like me, maybe not so.
  20. I want to like PBR too - it's just that its introduction coincided with something or other that drastically reduced SL performance for me and others.
  21. I don't know, to be honest. But the ping time is about the same as I've had for the last 3 years.
  22. I'm in Britain. Ping time right now for me 21 m/s, download time 583 Mb/s and upload 52 Mb/s. I reckon that's a pretty good internet connection. So slow SL performance since PBR must have some other cause.
  23. I use advanced lighting (shadows etc.) most of the time and it worked OK up until the PBR viewer came along. Now, turning off advanced lighting and setting other graphics to minimum doesn't improve the slow rezzing or non-rezzing, it's just as bad as with advanced.
