  1. My guess, which I mentioned before on another thread, is the the NUX avatars will be announced and fully showcased at SL20B but will not become available until after SL20B closes. The reason I think availability will be after SL20B is because if they're available during the event, everybody will be busy trying them out instead of attending the event!
  2. Doing a bit of double denim at a place called Slam . . .
  3. With my optimistic hat on, my guess is that they'll announce, and fully showcase, the NUX avatars during SL20B and make them available to all shortly after the celebrations close. Just a guess 😊
  4. Given that he was unimpressed by any of the games he tried, his view of SL was at least balanced! His point about SL's slow performance is valid though. Imagine how much more popular SL would be if everything loaded instantly, there was no lag and a smooth frame rate. There have been times when SL's performance has been better. It seems to go up and down over time, even when my graphics settings haven't changed.
  5. My shape came up as 'failed to find . . ." yesterday when I changed outfits, despite the fact I was already wearing the shape (all my outfits contain a shape, as some use a slightly modified version). I'm about to log in to see if it's been found . . . Just logged in, shape still missing. Luckily I have another shape that's almost the same so I can copy and modify that. In my inventory, 2 shapes are in bold,, indicating I'm wearing them both - the missing one and the alternative version. I've only had this happen very rarely during my long time in SL. Coincidentally, I also had the same problem in OpenSim a couple of days ago. I use different viewer for that (Firestorm). I use the LL viewer for SL.
  6. I still see mesh avatars with flexi hair or even with ballgowns made from flexi sections that separate when they move. I even saw a mesh avatar wearing twinkling bling the other day. So some people are happy to mix and match. Aside from the couple of people I mentioned who offered to 'update' me, I haven't encountered any anti-classic discrimination. I'll certainly give the NUX avatars a try whenever they come along, but I'll stay with classic until then. I'm not against mesh avatars - I did try quite a few demos, but none would let me reproduce the understated shape I was after. I do agree that LL could have done more to rectify the shortcomings of the classic avatar's basic mesh, though. I even made this T-shirt (mesh) for fun . . .
  7. I still use a 'classic' avatar after 16 years in SL. I can live with the disadvantages - the 4 main ones are: 1) less smooth joint articulation at shoulders and wrists 2) Less detail to shapes of hands and feet 3) Not possible to have differing textures on left and right arms, hands or feet. 4) Not possible to add a proper dynamic sheen to your skin. But I find the classic avatar works better for my thin shape. Combined with a good skin and a good AO (animation over-ride) one sometimes needs to look closely to spot a 'classic' avatar. I've been advised to 'upgrade' a couple of times over they years, and in both cases I thought (but didn't say) that the person advising me could do with some assistance themselves regarding their shape and choice of skin! On the other hand, mesh is pretty much essential for hair and for any loose fitting clothes. Before spending lots of money on a mesh avatar, it's worth bearing in mind that Linden Lab is planning to introduce new mesh avatars of their own soon, presumably available free to all.
  8. Bear in mind that something that is permitted within LL terms of service might be illegal to view in your own country.
  9. My SL profile starts with: "Just think of me as as normal and everything will make sense" !! People are left to make what they will of that. Do they need to get their head round my version of 'normal' first? 😄
  10. Not actually today, strictly speaking, but a recent trip to FLOW club . . .
  11. At SLAM again, another outing for the red T-shirt!
  12. I can't see LL introducing NUX without the ability to adjust or swap the shape or apply different skins - if they did that nobody will want them! If the shapes are copy, mod, and transfer, that would effectively make the NUX av full perms.
  13. If it's a good update of the system avatars, with a few more polygons where needed, some extra adjustment sliders, separate templates for left / right arms and feet and the ability add various levels of dynamic 'sheen' to the skin, that could be what a lot of people want. Also, for any given slider settings, the NUX avatars should take on the same shape and size as the old system avatar they replace and the skin should fit correctly. But . . . Do we even know yet whether the NUX avatars are an update of the classic system avatars or full perms mesh avatars?
  14. That's only because of the anti-LL subculture that's existed in SL for years. People rushed to use any open source viewer just because they weren't the official viewer. People rushed to get early-adopter mesh avatars even if they looked uglier than their 'classic' predecessors. I still use a classic avatar but I'm certainly looking forward to the NUX ones. Undoubtedly a really good mesh avatar is more realistic (especially in close-up) than a classic one but because having a mesh avatar doesn't make the average resident any better at judging proportions or choosing a skin - and worse at rezzing fully in busy places, there's quite an overlap. 😁
  15. Widening the question slightly, I won't be getting a mesh avatar until I see what the NUX ones are like.
  16. This Doux Adachi style . . . . looks much like what you're after. It comes with a HUD so you can change the colour and also make it shiny, like wet hair. It also comes in several sizes. My only criticism is that you can't fine tune the colours, you have to choose from the palette they provide. The very fine hair at the edge is part of my skin, not the Doux hair - it does benefit from a hairbase to soften the edges but looks OK without as it comes with 'babyhair' add-on. There's also Doux Excited, which is similar but with the plaits forward, although they are a bit further apart at the back of the head so it's not exactly the Adachi with the plaits flicked forwards.
  17. In my comparison pictures showing the the glitch as it affects highlighted transparent textures, the building is locked but it still exhibits the problem. I know it's not quite the same as alpha glitches in normal view, but it's likely there's a connection.
  18. In a moment of extreme silliness many years ago, I created a group called "Oops, sorry . . . . .wrong window !!" I've never used it for anything but I've just checked there are 7 members including myself!
  19. Just to clarify what we're seeing here. The top picture is normal view, the lower one is with 'highlight transparent' selected. All alpha textures are then shown as red. The reason the whole of the right hand side is red is because there's a large tree just out of view and the prims it's made from extend much further than its visible textures. Normally, highlighting transparent just tints the textures a translucent red, but now it makes them solid red.
  20. I haven't encountered this problem with textures when in normal view, but I'm having problems when I select 'highlight transparent' on the advanced menu. All alpha textures now appear as almost opaque red, which makes the function unworkable. Up until this, highlighting transparent gave a red tint to all alphas, so you could still see what you're working with - now you can't. If you're in a place surrounded by alphas, everything is a single wall of red.
  21. This is my 'defensive vulnerability' T-shirt 😁
  22. Unfortunately the Giant Jazzhands Pandicorn Head I posted at the bottom of page 68 of this thread had a land impact of 96, so it's been replaced by a 2D cut-out with a land impact of just 1😁 But it's safely stored away for occasional use.
  23. We've installed the giant yellow plastic jazzhands pandicorn head above the dance stage at Egotherapy. It's not necessarily a permanent fixture!
  24. There's one particular club that comes to mind. There's usually 30-40 people there, mostly standing at the back in static poses, none of them ever chat or do anything and voice is turned off at that club. The club isn't attached to a mall so there's no great need to artificially increase traffic with bots or alts. I suppose they might be in IMs or perhaps a group chat.
