  1. I received this same "SecondLive" message yesterday in IM, offering what appeared to be a 'cheat' viewer for Second Life. The message was sent by a 'joined today' newbie. I didn't click on the link, for obvious reasons, but I did look up SecondLIve on Google. There's actually [what claims to be] a virtual world called SecondLive, complete with a website. There's also lots of links to info about it on XFT (X formerly Twitter). A video shows the graphics are different from SL, so it's not based on OpenSim. Anyway the avatars aren't up to much in what looks to be their in-world footage.
  2. That looks good, although quite different from my look. It shows what can be done with Senra. That's a face-on view but the profile probably still has the duck-beak lips!
  3. I still use a system avatar and a skin I made myself. I tried this skin on the Senra Jamie and although it's BOM (bakes on mesh) it doesn't fit well. Most of the body is OK, except the painted-on detail of the hands and feet doesn't fit the mesh fingers and toes (which I expected). With the head, my skin detail is way off, with eyebrows half way up the forehead on the Jamie and the lips looking like a clown - even after adjusting the shapes as much as possible!
  4. I very much agree with this. This would be useful whether you use as classic or mesh avatar. Here are some new slider ideas that I can think of. Avatar Scale - changes avatar size without altering any proportions. Knee Height - moves the knees up or down the legs. Foot Rotation - so your feet can point outwards or inwards. Neck Angle - upright neck or angled forwards Shoulder Shape - 'up and square' or 'down and rounded' Arm Angle - at-rest angle for arms can be moved outwards - useful if you have a fat avatar.
  5. My inventory hovers around the 11,000 to 12,000 mark, which isn't huge but my ambition is always to get it below 10,000. The one big thing that would make my use of inventory easier would be to allow sub-folders in "My Outfits". That used to be possible - I still have a few subfolders as proof, but it's not possible any more.
  6. I managed to get back in eventually. I tried a work-round, which I'll describe as it might be useful to others in the same situation. My logins were failing at the 'requesting region capabilities' stage, after I crashed at my own place. I could log an alt in OK but not myself. I wondered if I'd left some sort of ''presence' of myself in limbo when I crashed. So I tried logging in using the LL Project Viewer, which had a set landing place at an experimental sim. That worked, so I TP'd home while in the Project Viewer, and logged out. Then I logged back in with the standard viewer and all is OK.
  7. Correction to my original post - now reads "I have no worrying emails", not "I have worrying emails".
  8. I was in-world this afternoon, at my own place, when I crashed suddenly - the viewer just disappeared. When I tried to relog I got a message saying there was a problem connecting. I'm still getting the same message a couple of hours on. I managed to log an alt. in - and I used the alt to pay me some L$ and IM me in case those actions jog the system. My account is OK, I can get into this website, Marketplace and My Second Life and I have no worrying emails. I'm wondering if this is something 'going round' at the moment or something specific to my account. This is the message I get. . .
  9. This preview photo feature is on the latest update of the standard LL viewer, released today. It works well although I'm not sure how useful I'll find it. What would be much more useful with outfits would be to allow us to create folders (subfolders) to arrange outfits in. That used to be possible, then it stopped.
  10. There are lots of groups in SL catering for people who live in particular countries. This includes several Hawaii groups although none specifically state that their purpose is to bring together people living in Hawaii in real life.
  11. Yesterday I saw my first Senra newbie. By that I mean a new resident using the Senra body, skin etc. It was a male av based on Blake, with the shape customised somewhat, and done quite well. I played around with the Senra avatar stuff myself some time ago but the significance of yesterday was that it was my first Senra newbie sighting.
  12. Why kill off the old SL UV map? Some of us still use system avatars and are quite happy to do so. We shouldn't be forced to change just because some third-party creator decided to go their own way. Anyway, LL's new (and rather disappointing) Senra mesh avatars follow LL's UV map (more or less) so I can't see it being done away with.
  13. I've told this story before. A long time ago someone posted a thread on the SL forums inviting posts from people who'd never posted before. I created an alt. called Forumsinglepost Artful. They were in-world for just the few seconds it took to rez, then logged out again. They then came on the forum to make one post on that thread, after which they deleted their account. Forumsinglepost might only have been an SL resident for a few minutes, but their brief presence all those years ago is commemorated by this plaque on the back wall of Egotherapy.
  14. From my very early days in SL I remember encountering a woman called Vomitdoll Lockjaw. I also remember a DJ called Spacefish
  15. There's not really any explanation or backstory on this: . . .
  16. SL does what it says on the box (as they say) - "Your world, your imagination". Yes, you have to share much of that world with other peoples' imaginations too and SL's performance has rarely been faultless. But I do get occasional moments deep immersion, usually at events like at Burn 2.
  17. I've always thought this tune is very SL. And . . . . . . Although this picture represents the lack of attention to scale in SL, the car's builder painstakingly scaled it up by 40% from the original car.
  18. You could try this fix: . . . Make some new 'system' socks and tint them so they match the exact colour where they join your skin. System socks on BOM just colour the bare feet, so they don't look like socks. The socks will just be a single colour, with no detail, but they won't have the unwanted extra toenails. You can wear the socks whenever you have bare feet. The 'socks' can be as short as the sliders will go as it's only the toes that need to be overlaid. Not perfect but better than before. if you use a slightly mottled, grainy texture on the socks, you might get a closer match.
  19. I use the standard LL viewer, which I'm happy with these days. I have a version of Firestorm which I use for accessing OpenSim but for SL I only use the LL viewer. There have been times in the past when the LL viewer of the day was having performance issues and so I used a third party viewer. And . . . I prefer the white puff-clouds the LL viewer has for unrezzed avatars to the orange puff-clouds of Firestorm!
