  1. I have tried to no avail to get the non-humans in my house at least aware of SL, so that they won't keep bothering me to be let in or out the back door while I'm trying to drive inworld.
  2. I think a lot of it has to do with ones computer, the graphics settings one chooses, network connection (and distance from servers) and the places one goes to inworld. If I go to a really popular event, where there are a large number of avatars, I encounter some lag, but generally I experience very little lag. I do have several different graphic profiles set up - one for general use, one for big events, one for taking pictures... and that helps alleviate possible lag.
  3. I haven't read the thread that may have prompted this either, yet, so when I read the first post here, my mind remembered a lot of earlier threads along the lines of the template (and many which were not by new people, but by longer term residents who likely did know the tools available).
  4. That's a strange sounding problem. - Do you know if the hair is flexi hair? (sometimes when I used to wear flexi sleeve ruffles, I would get long jagged lines extending form them). - Which viewer is she using? Is it the current version? Has she tried other viewers to see if that fixes the problem? - Does she see other people's hair properly? Has she tried wearing a different hair (ie., is the problem related to a particular hair, or is it all hair that she tries)? - Does her hair fully rez after a bit of time? Does everything else rez fully or are there other 'missing' or misformed objects?
  5. My friend was lucky enough to get a Linden Home right along a waterway a month or so ago. She was thrilled! It's not one of the ones where you have to walk down a cliff to the water, but one where the water is just a few steps from her patio. I don't think she'll be giving it up any soon
  6. As a consumer, it is hard to know which creators know how to do this, and which ones don't. I've purchased some houses from the same creator over the past several years and some of the floors are fine in some houses, and not fine in other houses. Just because some creators know something, doesn't mean all do - just like I still get NC's with some products telling me to increase my LOD setting in order to "see their product as intended". From a consumer perspective, it seems it's best to be wary when you first start furnishing a house, and test out rezzing a copy item first, to see whether there will be problems in that specific house or not.
  7. In the existing Linden Homes, there are areas where there are homes close to a waters edge with a water view, but there is no way to request which Linden Home you are assigned other than choosing a style of house from a theme. Although you can change your Linden Home up to 5 times per day, it's still just a matter of extreme luck if you get assigned to one along a water way.
  8. I was out driving around this afternoon, again, in Heterocera. I think it is the most interesting continent for driving - not only does it have a lot of roads (and loops), it has a very varied geography which makes it seem more fun for driving. And the SLRR is an added bonus. I had land out along Route 5 for a couple of years. One time I spent a fun afternoon driving, sailing, and then driving again to get from my home there to Bay City.
  9. If you can't change your maturity level preferences back, then you'll need to create a support ticket. You are lucky that your account wasn't banned altogether. Don't be surprised if Support asks for some type of verification for your actual age. If nothing else, perhaps you'll just need to spend a year exploring everything else that SL has to offer that is not adult related.
  10. Other sections of the forum are for helping when someone has a problem, but in a general sense (without naming specific businesses or individuals that you are experiencing a problem or disagreement with). This particular section of the forum is for land owners owning mainland to advertise parcels that they have for rent - it is not for a discussion about their business practices. When someone posts a general question in the Land -> General Discussion or Land -> Mainland forums about a delay in getting the group tag, people are usually advised to be patient because sometimes RL prevents someone from immediately logging into SL to take care of the issue, and they often are also advised to send a polite NC or IM (depending on the landlord's preference) if they want to remind the landlord that they are waiting to get the group invitation. While rent boxes may have the option to request the group invite be resent, I'm thinking that may be an option that the owner may or may not set up. I know that I have tried that before with rentals, with no affect, and needed to wait for the landlord to come online and send the invite. When there has been a length of several days inbetween, the landlord may credit you for those days that you were not able to use the property - or they may not, as it's their choice.
  11. It sounds like you are just about there. If you aren't able to find someone to meet with you and work with you inworld, the following may help you figure out the remaining pieces: First, it sounds like you need a skin which will contain appliers for both a Catwa head and a Slink body, or applier for Catwa head and omega applier which you can use with the Slink body if you purchase a Omega installer for Slink. (I haven't used Catwa heads before, so I don't know if they are Omega compatible). You need to be able to apply the same skin tone to both parts in order to have the skin color match on both parts. If you have purchased some skins with Slink appliers, then either look in the folder they came in to see if there are any head appliers in the folder, or go back to where you purchased them to see if there are head appliers in the same tone available for purchase. (There may still be some oddness at the neck join, depending on your graphic settings and the lighting of where your are). Second, body poking through clothes. Choosing clothes that indicate they are compatible with Slink Hourglass (sometimes referred to as Slink HG) is the best option when buying new clothes. Even so, sections of the body may still poke through. Most of the time this can be fixed by using the "Alpha" tab of the Slink body HUD. On that tab you can choose sections/slices of the body to 'alpha out' so that section of the body will not poke through the specific clothing item you are trying to wear. Being as you already have the Slink Hourglass body and Slink high feet, I would suggest going ahead and getting the Slink hands. You should be ready then to venture out and look for hair and makeup that suits your style. When looking at things like makeup and eyelashes, choose items which indicate they are Catwa compatible. Using the Catwa HUD to apply makeup and lashes is a whole other topic, and probably asking in their group is best once you get to that point and have specific questions. You will probably want to get an AO (animation overrider) - this is what gives you different standing , walking, sitting, etc. animations. You will want to go to several animation stores inworld so that you can 'try out' the different offerings. Tuty's and Vista are two that come to mind (and I think Tuty's may have an inexpensive bento AO which might be a good starter one initially) though there are more brands out there that you might want to check out.
  12. A very general overview - The normal body (aka System or Classic) is the body that comes with the avatar when you first create your avatar. You can change or modify it by wearing different skins and by changing its shape (either yourself by going into 'edit shape' and adjusting the shape sliders or by buying a pre-made shape and then wearing that shape). System bodies can wear system clothes (the 'painted on' looking ones) or mesh clothes that are designed to be worn by classic avatar bodies. For those who do not want a full mesh body, many will purchase add-on mesh hands and/or feet (such as Slink hands or feet, for example, but there are other brands as well in the MP I think). If mesh add-on hands or feet are worn, they need to be either tinted, using the tools that come with them, to match your bodies skin, or you need to see if the creator of the skin that you are wearing also sells an applier to automatically tint the hands and/or feet to match the body skin. It is possible to create a nice looking system body avatars by using a good skin, good hair, good shape and nice mesh clothes. So there is nothing wrong with staying with a system body while you figure out if you want to go with a mesh body or not, and if so, which one you want. Mesh bodies are another body that is worn over the system body. There will be a full body alpha that comes with the mesh body which will worn will make the underlying system body invisible (so it doesn't poke out or thru the overlying mesh body). Mesh bodies generally come with hands and feet, but not always, depending on the creator. Mesh bodies provide a smoother look in some key areas (hands, feet, shoulder blades, other areas generally hidden by clothes) as well as different rigging to enhance certain shape types. You can still adjust your shape to alter the look of the mesh body, but different mesh bodies may work better than others for the overall body style that you want. You may need to find a skin pack which includes a system skin (if you are keeping your system head) along with an applier to apply that skin onto the type of mesh body that you have. Some mesh clothing for system bodies can still be worn on some mesh bodies - it depends on the clothing style and your shape. Generally for the major mesh body brands you will see mesh clothing that is specific to a type of mesh body (for example, you may buy a dress which has a version for Maitreya, a version for Belleza Freya, a version for Slink Hourglass, etc.). Mesh bodies generally come with a HUD which let you customize some things and also let you 'alpha' out specific areas of the mesh body which is often necessary so that the mesh body doesn't poke through parts of the clothes. Mesh bodies also contain 'layers' that you can apply tattoos, or stockings, or when you want to later clothing, etc. - provided that you have purchased an item that has an applier for the type of body you have. Many mes bodies are "Omega" compatible, so purchasing an Omega relay for that body will let you apply appliers that are "Omega" compatible. The most important thing about choosing a mesh body, if you decide to go that route, is to DEMO them - and then DEMO them again. See what they look like on your shape. Also play around with the shape sliders so you can see how much you can or cannot change the basic look of parts of the mesh body - some brands are more curvier than others, for example, and that curviness stays to some extent even when you change the shape sliders. See if they work with any of the clothes you have, and also check out clothing that you like to see if there is availability of the styles you like for the mesh body you are considering.
  13. If you want to find a 3D modeler to hire to create a model for you, you need to post your inquiry in the Commerce -> Inworld Employment section of the forums. However, if the drawing is of a character where someone besides yourself holds the copyright, it is very unlikely that you will find someone to make a model of it for you. (If you are not asking to have a 3D model created which can be uploaded into SL, you will need to be clearer about what it is you are asking to have happen).
  14. I've had a similar issue with a pair of glasses, and with one of my favorite hairs. I hadn't tried the scrolling out and back in trick - I always right-clicked where they should be and then they would show up - easy to do with hair, not so easy with glasses. If I decide to try wearing them again I'll try the scrolling out and back in.
