  1. Bad grammar and incorrect spelling doesn't bother me as much as a lack of punctuation and paragraphs. I can generally translate bad grammar and spelling errors in my mind as I read the post. A long post with no (or very little) punctuation, bad grammar and spelling errors, though, is very difficult to read and interpret. I don't think it is wrong to indicate to the poster that they should use punctuation and break their post up into multiple paragraphs, so that their post can be better understood. (Long posts which are well formatted are not an issue.)
  2. It's not limited to being an issue just with Maitreya (It's not the body's fault). I spent a large part of the fall shopping for jackets and coats before coming to terms with the idea of a jacket or coat with an included shirt or dress was good, and that applier leggings were fine to wear. I do have a nice collection of coats and jackets now, though. I probably won't need to buy any next fall (unless, of course, there is some really cute new style.... ) I didn't think about trying standard size pants with a coat - I may try that next time I wear a longer coat.
  3. With a good skin, good hair, good modern mesh clothes (which state they work with classic avatar) and some mesh feet and hands, you can get a good looking avatar without going full mesh. A lot of that depends on how much skin you want to show However, many mesh bodies come with feet and hands, so if you buy them separately first, if you decide to go to a mesh body in the near future, you may not need the separately purchased feet and hands.
  4. Before getting a mesh body and/or head, take a look at Mesh Body Addicts site. You can find tutorials, info about specific mesh bodies and comparisons between them. It's a good place to get some basic info about mesh bodies before heading out to get demos. Be sure to get demos first, for any that you are interested in. Also take a look at clothes in the style that you like, to see which mesh bodies they are commonly offered in. (Not every clothing vendor makes clothes for every mesh body). Get demos of clothing that you like and try them out with the bodies you demo. I would suggest just getting a mesh body first, getting used to that, and then look at mesh heads a little later down the line.
  5. I used ZHAO-II type AO's until about 6 months ago when I decided to give the FS AO a try. I've never used the Akeyo type, so I don't know how the Akeyo and the FS one compare for ease of use in adding/changing animations, but I've found the FS AO very easy to set up and use - much easier than the ZHAO-II having to drop the AO on the floor, add animations and update a notecard. I have several different sets in the FS AO and it's very easy to switch between them (my normal bento set, dances, barely move non-bento set for a RP, and some very active bento stand animations that are good for pictures). For the odd situations where I log in with the LL viewer, I just wear one of my scripted AO's after I log in.
  6. Ah... thanks! That confirms my thoughts that a region limit of 40 isn't ridiculous, but is probably a limit wisely chosen by the event region owner.
  7. Is this particular event held on mainland or on an estate sim? I thought the 40 avatar maximum only applied to mainland, and that full estates had a higher maximum number (but also that estate owners could set the allowed number lower than the maximum if they wished).
  8. While I'm glad you were finally able to get everything resolved, I would caution people against deleting alts as part of a resolution to a problem. I've never seen that before as 'something to try', and am having a hard time figuring out why a separate account would affect how the viewer display for another account. If it was something about the alt's settings/preferences, etc., it seems like a complete re-install should take care of that, as a complete reinstall removes all the folders/settings.
  9. I don't know which event the OP was trying to get into - I don't go to very many events. Often I go to an event because I've seen something at a vendor's inworld store that I like, and which is only for sale at an event, at the time I'm looking at it (so I really would like it, if I could TP in to the vendor's booth, rather than a central landing point). The last overly crowded event I went to a few days ago was to buy palm trees :). I do think that if it wasn't inworld, it really wouldn't be an "event" and would not seem exclusive either. Right now you can buy other items from a vendor's online MP store, if you're too impatient. Presumably if they are one of the high fashion vendors, their other offerings are also still latest fashion. This whole idea of what is considered the latest fashion in SL really confuses me. I'm not aware that there is some central place where all the fashionista's go to be seen, where you have to be wearing the very, very latest in order to be considered fashionable. I tend to think that what makes something the latest fashion, is simply that it is sold at an event that is exclusive because it is popular and hard to get into the first few days. Relax, wait a few days, and enjoy your time inworld.
  10. Perhaps they're not aware how of the efficiencies of using the newer function? Even if they just made the switch for their newer bento AO's, that would be helpful, if there's not some other technical reason blocking them from making that move.
  11. There are two vehicle sandbox sims - Brilliant and Georgean which - from a quick check - appear to have object entry enabled. Georgean has a paved track and appears that build is only enabled in the rez area(s), but object entry appeared to still be enabled even past the rez area.
  12. Whether they are "real" or not, the above quotes say a lot about the real you, and it's not a positive statement. After everything else you've posted, especially the other responses quoted above it, why should we believe this?
  13. Good luck with the move - hope it goes smoothly and that you get internet back sooner that you're expecting.
  14. I think that asking for friends in the forum will only take you so far - compared to the whole of SL, just a small percentage of people read the forums I would imagine. So the rest has to be done inworld. The suggestions about looking up groups and places relating to things you are interested in is a very good suggestion. If nothing else, you'll spend your time participating in things that you like to do (unless you like sitting in your house in SL all the time). Also if you don't like public sex, then stay out of adult rated areas - SL is a very big place and not all of them are adult. The London sim that's listed in the destination guide as newcomer-friendly is a pretty busy place (though it's been quite awhile since I've been out there). Take some classes - learn some basic things about building. Look for residential/family communities that have organized activities happening. Don't rule out clubs - find a few that have the music genre you like and are busy. My impression from watching the local chat at clubs I've been dancing at are that there are regulars who attend often and have become friends with other regulars, or they're part of a group that follow a particular DJ, and have made friends with others who do the same. Watch the chat for a little bit, and then join in. You will need to make more effort that a 'hello' or 'meow' to become part of the actual conversation. Keep exploring around places that pique your interests - if you see someone else exploring the same area as you, strike up a conversation and see where it goes. Not all people that you come across while out and about will want to converse, but the more that you give this a try, the more likely you will be to find someone to talk with (and perhaps become friends with). Also realize that not everyone will rush to accepting or sending a friend request just based on one random conversation. in short, you need to put yourself out there, instead of just sitting and waiting for friends to magically appear.
  15. Thank you! This one was an easy find for me - it's up the hill on the estate where I live, which after the snowy winter has had a miraculously early Spring. (So credit for the beauty goes to Par)
  16. That is interesting! Any particular reason behind that? Out in my area, it seems like many places are going to "fragrance free areas".
  17. The Shelter, which is on the Isabel sim, always seems to have quite a few people there. It's not too far from the snowlands section of Sansara. There is Chalet Linden in Wengen, in the snowlands, while probably empty of people most of the time, does have some ski runs next to it if you wanted to do some skiing. There is also the Chamonix City group of sims on the edge of the snowlands which has a lot of winter sports (though, I don't now how active an area that is). There are several pod tours on Sansara - one of which goes through the snowlands (and if I remember right there is a pod station in the snowlands). You might want to check out the Pod Riders group - it's a friendly group and has spurts of conversation in it's chat. In my opinion, the pod rides are interesting ways to check out different areas of mainland, as they often have some descriptive text about the areas at different points along the tours. I'm mostly a solitary explorer, so I don't really have any areas where people are likely to be hanging out, other than The Shelter. However, I have traveled quite a bit along the roads in mainland and have found quite a few interesting places along the way. You could also look for areas alongside roads that have a group of green dots - then TP to the roadway and take a look to see what or where it is that everyone's gathered at. All the roadways are public, so there's no issues with TP'ing to a spot on a roadway.
  18. "E" works for me for jumping, then the up arrow to fly forward (and "C" to descend). I'd double check the 'pressing letter keys affects movement' setting in your preferences.
  19. I am just right for me. I'm not often around a lot of people, so I don't know how I compare to the others out and about, though when I was out getting advent gifts, there were some places where I felt short and frumpy. I'm around 1.9 m bare feet or in flats, which is the shoe height I normally wear, so I guess that puts me a bit over 6 ft. However, I feel comfortable at this height in my house and with the furnishings - so, just right for me!
