  1. Sadly true. I forgot there's a few off site blogs and such on how to fix your avatars and such and some other parts could be part of a static Q&A thing. Mboards no matter who they belong to always get discussions like what's going on here atm.
  2. A lot of things would have to be weighed on. This forum has a lot of sections other then this catagory like the land chat, how to fine toon your character, etc.
  3. Hopefully this thread can be survive and not see it closed like some others. Mods have to decide how to handle a questionable thread or post and the best method to get the thread re-railed, clean it up or place a lock on it. Not an easy job. I'm an admin on a MS (Multiple sclerosis) board and like here threads run off the tracks all the time. When I removed a post or something I usually PM the poster my reasons. But depends on the Mod that happens to go by. Same here. Couple months ago a Mod here removed one of my post and sent a PM why he did. I said "sorry" and moved on. I was joking about something and probably hit him wrong.
  4. And weren't we talking about how to save a club? Although reading back up I'm also guilty like others on helping derail the train talking about DJs and piracy. Happens every time on club related threads.
  5. There is many catch-22s dealing with music. But when rather you're playing a radio in your store or have a full blown DJ system in your bar, the music rights organisations need to be paid. Up here in Canada in our bar when you enter you'll see a sticker saying music licenced by SOCAN. The music we play either comes from our own collections or a DJ pool, that which we pay a yearly charge for. I don't know how many times we get requests "can you play this off YT?" We say it's not legal, but if the song is in our collection we can put it on. If not we'll search for it in the CD pool and play it next time. The costs of the licences cost us a small fortune, but it makes sure the artists, writers, publishers, etc are paid for their work. For awhile we did simulcast in SL when my man played Wednesdays in the one club I mentioned earlier. We do pay extra to SOCAN and another music rights org for playing on the internet.
  6. My man when he DJed always put thoughts on the sets. And sometimes a theme. For awhile he did a thing along with another DJ called the Top 10 at 7 where 10 songs were taken from a chart from the 60s and 70s like Billboard or a Keener Guide any play those. Sometimes we discover some little played gems. Every song was announced or back announced and no talking was done over the song. Our music library is rather large and can fit most any request, if we didn't have the song he would PM the person for an alternative one and note the requested song down to grab from the DJ pool later. Much of the music came from CDs or record we bought in bulk from a few record stores that closed up and my daughter would put them on the server. No YT stuff. Sad when you see other DJs play a song and the title shows something like "My SL - Joe and the Lindens (HD with lyrics)."
  7. I remember Flight Simulator. Some reason my plains kept kissing the pavement!
  8. When I ran my club --- it was mainly live music and it was a one-woman operation - me! I ran the place to help support live music and enjoy the performers that played there. I was not in it for the money, but more for a local hang out. I have had some come in and say "you're running this wrong, need managers, hosts, etc" and I tell them to take a hike. Although the club had a tip jar, I never begged anyone to tip it and even had it to one side of the building. If someone felt like tipping, that was their own doing. I sold the club off when I was not well enough to keep going and discouraged when I caught one of the performers playing a recording instead of being live. My man used to play at another club that's been around for some time and it was similar, a place to hang out. That came to an end due to owner having some serious issues and caused drama.
  9. I know that some new people that onboard are referred by relatives or friends who are able to guide them through the process. But that's not a big percentage.
  10. You mean you want Linden Lab to remove legs from all the avatars? 🤣 Just sayin'.
  11. The one time I closed a group - it was just 31 people and I posted in group chat and notices a few times it was going away and if they wanted to leave early, go for it. About 10 aknowledged it and 5 left. The day I started turfing I PMed each member I was closing the group and will be clearing everyone out. Only got 1 complaint back. I remember a few years ago a store that closed put in the group's description "My shop is now closed --- please eject yourself from the group, I'm too lazy. Thanks for the fun times."
  12. I'm surprised SL or the Lab doesn't have an official Discord. Then again some Discords can be the wild west and derail a lot faster then a forum. Plus the Lab probably doesn't have enough person power or "Mole" power to keep things in check.
  13. Another one.... Part peeve of a misbehaving computer server and part story. This was long ago (back in the mid 2000s) at the night club we used to own back in California. The music server would crash and burn after 2 hours and we would have silence until we fired up the back-up CD players. I took apart the server and check --- didn't find anything and let it reset. Even had a computer guy come out and couldn't figure it out. One night it happened and this one guy said he was a server tech for a certain company in San Francisco and asked if he could take a look. I showed him the rack where it was at and he checked it out. He then said "this box is similar to what we use to run 'regions' on." I didn't get what he meant, but he found the issue. There was a hidden fan and it was full of dust and stopped working. Upon using a can of air on it, it started spinning and from that point on the server hummed like a Humvee! I said thanks and offered to pay him, but he refused, but I gave him a couple of tickets to get drinks from the bar or food on the house. I asked what the 'Region" thing was, he said "I work for this cool virtual world and I'm one of the back-end IT that keeps the little fans running. Maybe you should check it out. It's called Second Life." Thanks to him how I got checked into the "Hotel SL!"
  14. Sadly too many are addicted to it --- so I won't expect a big drop in users during the latest scandal they're having.
  15. Freakbook buying out Linden Labs. That is scary!
  16. Freakbook don't want that. They want everyone to go through them. I remember Zuck long ago saying something about FB being your connection to anything online.
  17. I don't do SM either. Hate they want a physical entry if you don't do social. So no sale!
  18. I usually get positive comments about my avi. I try to make her look my RL self. I remember long ago me and my man were both logged in and went to a special event. About 5 minutes later we booted from the event as the person putting it on said "Sorry, mixed couples not welcomed here."
  19. Don't give the Lab ideas. I can see at a board meeting --- "Ok, I think if we removed the legs from all the characters, it might save on server resources and dial down our use of the AWS cloud." Then we'll have a 2000 page thread about that on the board with the Mods working feverishly to keep the "train" from derailing! 🤣
  20. Except for a few cases. One of the persons my man was chatting with on amateur radio is trying to get a tech job in California --- but the guy got declined as the company preferred H-1B visa people.
  21. Freakbook is the reason I wouldn't touch Oculus with a 20 metre pole!
  22. I see a lock in this thread's future when a Mod makes the rounds. I'm sure InvisionBoard has a feature to auto-lock threads after they're idle for a time. I know the board I'm a Mod at has that feature and locks idle threads after 60 days.
  23. Going back to the Halfatars FB uses -- I had someone come into my bar the other night and he bought his laptop in. After he got on he was showing a friend the FB "metaverse" aka Horizon Workplace. They were doing some oohs and ahhs about that halfatars and showing what they can do. Being the devious one I decided to go to the DJ booth and logged onto SL and sent the video to one of our big screens. Our barkeep told them to look at the big screen and their mouths dropped. She said one of them said "wow, they have whole bodies, that must be new!!" The Barkeep said no, it was Second Life and it's been around for about 2 decades. The guy with the laptop quietly closed his laptop.
