  1. I posted over in the other thread linked above but this has been happening all over Satori continent for the past 3-4 days. Using LL's help desk bot - boxy, I've already had about a dozen regions restarted in the last 24 hours alone. Once restarted the regions seem fine.
  2. This has been an ongoing issue in the Satori continent for the past 3 or 4 days now. Regions that wont let you drive in (your vehicle gets stuck on the border) but let you walk in just fine. I have used that Boxy LL help desk bot thingy to get several regions there restarted over the past 24 hours. I have to say that I've been really impressed with this system. It takes only a few seconds to select Region Restart from the menu, choose mainland, then type in the region name. The region goes off line within about 30 seconds, and is back up after only 2 or 3 minutes. After that the vehicle can move through fine. I saw the same issue much earlier in the year in another continent, but can't remember what was the actual issue, though i vaguely remember it might have had something to do with the calculations for land impact of mesh being broken, and everything is getting counted as prims, or everything is getting counted as convex hull in the physics type.
  3. Thanks for the replies. I found out the issue was the RenderDynamicLOD debug setting. The default setting for this is ON but I usually set it to OFF. It's my understanding that the idea behind dynamic LOD is that items further away from you get rendered at a lower LOD setting than those up close, therefore placing less load. Since, as a pilot in SL, I am often using fairly large draw distances (250-300m being normal), I prefer to see items far away rezzed properly, so I usually have this turned off. What I don't understand is why this setting is effecting what I am seeing up close? I'm also confused as to how one week, this setting is working fine when set to OFF, then suddenly it isn't. Has something changed where setting this to OFF means everything is always drawn at a lower LOD value? or is this how it's supposed to work and I understood it all backwards?
  4. Ok firstly, apologies if this isn't in the right section, but this issue is odd and I am not sure if it's viewer related or a server issue. The issue itself seems to coincide with the weekly rolling restarts which suggest to me that it's server related. So, I seem to have a LOD issue relating to certain mesh parts on some vehicles I use in SL. I use Firestorm viewer and my LOD is set to 3.0. This setting is high enough to allow we to see all the various switches and knobs in the cockpit of the helicopters i fly. However, after last weeks rolling re-starts, the next time I logged in, all those switches and knobs no longer looked correct with that LOD setting. They all look deformed, the way you often see some mesh when you turn the LOD setting right down. In order to see these switches properly, I have to turn the LOD of the viewer all the way up to 4.5, which I think is excessive. Now, this is not the first time I've had this issue. Several months ago, right after a round of Tuesday restarts, the exact same issue occurred. I could not resolve it then, but it suddenly fixed itself after 3 weeks later, coincidently right after another round of rolling restarts. So it seems to me initially, that the restarts are causing this issue in some way, therefore server related? Adding the following: It is not a single region issue, as it doesn't matter where in SL I am flying, this LOD issue persists. I don't know if it's viewer related, however, prior to typing this, I did test it with both the default LL viewer, and Catznip viewer. With the default LL viewer, the LOD seemed fine, though I couldn't see in preferences where you set an actual value, it only had a slider - but regardless, setting the slider to Med and even Low, there was no LOD issues. On the Catznip viewer, the issue was identical to Firestorm - in actual fact it was worse, because even at LOD value 5.0, the switches still looked deformed. Any idea what could be causing this?
  5. Whether or not mainland rentals are worthwhile or not really depends on two things 1: What you're offering (location, smoothness of terrain, neighbourhood, lag level etc etc) 2: The price (most people who find two rental parcels that meet their criteria will usually always choose the cheaper one) You are right in that there are plenty of un-rented places around on mainland, so the question then becomes "what is making these rentals unattractive.. point 1 or 2 ... or maybe something else entirely ?
  6. Got a LM? I've been flying round since 2015 and I've never heard of the place
  7. I'm guessing it's Schooners Pub, located here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Wise/43/195/22
  8. Definitely start with the Drivers Of SL Group. They organize weekly HUD-based grid drives around mainland, held at Saturday midday (SLT), then repeating it at 11.59pm. You can do the drive with the group at the aforementioned times, or at any time that suits you. Previous drive HUDS are stored at the GTFO / Drivers HQ in northern Satori here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Bruissac/99/66/36 Normally, each drive offers a completion reward donated by that weeks sponsor - usually a vehicle of some kind. The drives are usually done in multiple stages, and will often involve driving, flying, and boating. A few times a year the group organises weekend long "camping drives" - with a road camp, boat camp, and space camp being the usual ones.
  9. Coloured prims aren't the same as textured prims. For example, you can make words using prims then tint them a specific colour - that will show on the world map just fine, but if you just rezz a giant prim and apply a texture to it with text or an image - that won't work. This pic below, on the world map it looks like one big texture, but in fact what it is is a pile of tinted prims all joined together:
  10. ^ Route 10 tunnel in Silvercreek region is my guess
  11. Nope, none of the ones i've passed seem to be glowing excessively, certainly no worse than going past other kinds of light sources in SL.
  12. I've never quite understood how people struggle with the prim limit in Linden Homes. Technically it's easier to decorate a 1024 size LL home than the same size on mainland, since the house itself doesn't count towards your prim limit - which straight away frees up at least 50 prims. Unless your plan is to leave half a 2048 premium plus parcel empty, you'll run into the same issue with prims - because sure you'll have twice as many prims to use, but you'll have twice as much land (and likely a bigger house) that needs filling The "Show Off Your Home" thread shows some stunning work achieved by residents of Bellisseria, all of whom obviously have managed to cram in a lot of nice stuff within that 351 prim. limit. Also, 6 years ago (i think it was around 2016 - someone correct me if i am wrong), Linden homes and all mainland parcels had 50% less prims available than they do now (around 234 prims I think - memory is hazy) so in reality, it's never been easier
  13. I'm always travelling round mainland (every day in fact), and honestly, I don't find those sci-fi looking obelisks to be that bad. Sure, in some areas they look out of place - but frankly you can say that about a lot of stuff you pass by on mainland. At the very least they look fairly well made - certainly much better to look at than all the large square box structures some people have rezzed that are nothing more that a few prim walls using the default plywood texture
  14. That IS asking for more - because you're asking for more non-revenue generating regions versus revenue generating regions. Currently on the land page, you'll never see more that one or two houseboat parcels available - that's because they are generally sold out and people want more - hence the reason all these new regions are full of houseboat parcels. You want less of these parcels, that's fine, but I suggest all of the residents who are waiting on new houseboat parcels to become available wouldn't agree with your idea in the slightest. Alternatively, you could simply purchase the 18 or so empty water regions yourself, therefore ensuring that you idea doesn't negatively impact residents keen of having their own houseboat parcel
  15. Pretty much where I suggested Bellisseria would end many months ago - after all, they moved all the private regions in that area around the time the Chalet theme was released - and really no point in doing that unless there were expansion plans for the area ETA: Nika beat me too it - with a pic that shows exactly what I am talking about
  16. For such a young thread, i'm surprised that there's so many "new" posters replying on it, conveniently all in perfect agreement with each other
  17. Horizons is physically connected to Zindra at the Hoxel Beach and Shell Beach Regions
  18. It is connected to Zindra, which makes sense considering Horizons parcels, as far as i know, are all Adult rated regions.
  19. Sorry Flower, I have to disagree with that. I would never assume that any parcel next to a protected waterway was open access - i would instead simply pay attention to the mini map and sail straight down the protected channel. There's no need to be deviating from the LL protected area in this instance. Secondly, assuming that the area was open being correct 99% of the time I think is also rather overstating it. If that was the case, then sailors would rarely hit one of these banlines, and therefore have little to complain about. The fact that you hear sailors (and drivers too) constantly complain about banlines indicates that they are in fact widely used throughout SL - therefore logically it makes more sense to assume that any non-protected parcel is a no-go zone. There seems to be a lot of assumption going on here which seems to be the cause of these issues. Assuming that any open water is automatically sailable - leads to randomly sailing into peoples property and encountering banlines and/or orbs Assuming that buoys/markers are utilized in the same way as RL - leads to RL sailors in SL taking routes which lead them into peoples parcels and again, encountering the aforementioned banlines/orbs. I've been sailing in SL for 7 years now, and yet I still don't know the first thing about RL sailing or anything else to do with it, and that includes marker buoys. Diamonds eastbound/westbound example shown above might make perfect sense for a RL sailor, but for the many people who only sail in SL, it might as well be gibberish. To call something like this a booby-trap makes it sound like the parcel owner has deliberately set their land up in such a way as to trap or harass sailors, when i think nothing could be further from the truth. More than likely, they slapped down one buoy to show where the edge of their parcel was, and decided that was good enough, and that most people would simply use the LL channel. To me, this is a case where sailors are applying RL ideology to SL - and that doesn't always work. Oh, and of course Gabriele clearly types faster than me and beat me to it
  20. As the [REGION NAME REMOVED] is a fairly large private estate, the first thing i'd do is thoroughly check their covenant to see if you have indeed fallen foul of any rule that would justify them in ejecting you.
  21. Red's Mystery Shack in my favorite place in Satori - amazing build that everyone should visit at least once Red's Mystery Shack - owners flickr page
  22. For 3rd person view I use some settings suggested by Penny Patton on her website years ago - places the camera lower and flatter - looks more realistic and you can wander through lower height areas more easily. I'm guessing my settings are quite similar to Jenna's posted above. To be honest though, I probably spend more time in SL in mouselook view anyway.
  23. Can I suggest that if you see on mainland some road or other thing that you think would be a benefit to the community if it was fixed/improved, then please file a Jira for it rather than simply positing it here. I, and a few others, have had a lot of success over the past year getting new roads put in via submitting a Jira for them. Whilst some of the Moles frequent these forums, I'm not sure how many actual Lindens do, so it's better to go via the official route
  24. ah ok thanks. My imagination must be terrible because I can't even see those gloves making an OK gesture Not being American, I also had no idea about any signs being related to certain radical groups - in fact, until seeing some of the replies and links in this thread, my original reaction to the OP picture was more being horrified by the fashion style than anything else
