  1. A two-part peeve. Part I: When you make a cup of coffee, but then you end up in Gimp and the coffee goes cold. Part II: When you go to pop the coffee in the microwaver, and it comes out reeking of artificial popcorn-butter because your roommates are disgusting swine who don't ever clean the kitchen after themselves. Who even eats that junk to begin with? Groans.
  2. 'Murricah, zenter ov da junivearse! Seriously, anything SL-related can be considered vain if you just shift perspective a little. But this isn't a forum for American politics, this is a forum for Second Life users. You wouldn't go into a forum for senior knitters of Derbyshire to tell them that knitting is pointless because there's a guy in Spain who refuses to come out of a train station restroom unless they appoint him station master, and a group of bored punk kids decided to chase away the station custodian. And yes, from my perspective, the White House is about as interesting as any given Spanish train station restroom.
  3. I ... Laughed. L$6.5K for something that has almost no information on it, and what little information it is appears to have been translated via Google Translate.
  4. As long as we can all agree that I'm the innocent one, sure! I mean, don't I just have the face of an innocent little angel-baby?
  5. It's practically the exact same UI to operate a prim light, except sliders in the HUD rather than a numbers window with arrows in a prim's edit window. It's as easy as pressing Ctrl + B and clicking on the ground, just go to the features tab in the editing menu and you have the light settings right there. A colour picker next to the 'light switch', below it you have the intensity, radius and falloff. To make it a projector, simply click the texture picker next to the colour picker (which lets you change it to any colour you want and add a texture (usually a white circle on a black background, but you can just as well click 'blank' if you don't intend on having the light's edges in the shot - or get creative and project a picture!), and beneath it you have the controls for that (field of view, focus, ambiance). And if you're concerned about rez rights, simply create the light in a sandbox or in your home, rename the prim to something appropriate, pick it up and attach it to your avatar and move it into position - zero scripts, zero cost, easy as apfelstrudel, and you can wear as many of them as you like (up to your attachment limit, of course). Surely, that minute amount of effort is worth saving $30?
  6. Very much so. It was discussed extensively a few years ago, the Swedish agency for national health had a spokesperson say that people should make sure their kids don't just wash their hands but clean them with alcohol and never stick their fingers in their faces, as that would hopefully make them 'more responsible adults'. They were lashed back against, as the increased rate of allergies and diminishing immune systems (and why everyone and their uncle now think it's hip to pretend they have celiac disease and be glutenophobes) is due to how our society has gone more sterile in the past 30-40 years, children no longer playing outdoors as they used to, fewer people having animals - those things are imperative for building up an immune system that prepares us to live in, you know, 'the real world' that we're meant to be in.
  7. We have a saying in Swedish though; 'a bit of dirt keeps the stomach clean'.
  8. I've left most of the groups I was in on Flickr because of the plague of the bloggers .. Seeing a bad picture once doesn't really annoy me too much, but when I'm scrolling through my Flickr feed and it's the same pictures over and over because someone has shoved them into 300 groups to get as much attention as possible - just, no. And yes, I don't reckon a whole lot of creators really want their dresses to be blogged in a manner in which they appear as colourfully patterned blimp collisions of breasts and buttocks. I, for one, most certainly wouldn't want to see my hypothetical creations displayed on balloon animals.
  9. Mine is 87 ... 66 if you skip the conservatory. Hm. Yeah it probably could have been better optimised.
  10. Does this count? ... I think there may be a numbers pun in here somewhere, but I haven't even had breakfast yet.
  11. Either hand over ownership to someone else before leaving, or you'll have to remove everyone else in the group and it will be destroyed after ... Is it 24 or 48 hours?
  12. Consumed my new books from Christmas before I even went back home, so I'm bookless at the moment. I do have a fair few books in the workshop that I'm supposed to repair and/or rebind, but it's mostly utter trash - a biography of William Booth, for example, how fun is that? In addition to the books I received as Christmas gifts, I also had a go at some of the stuff in my family's bookshelves; a novel collection of H.P. Lovecraft, Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne, Matilda by Roald Dahl (it was in the bookshelf next to my bed and I couldn't sleep, and it's a nice book that I loved as a kid!), and The Children of Húrin by J.R.R. Tolkien (which I really loved, so dark!).
  13. Tragically yours, obey and submit to me. I will find you wherever you hide, got a thrill for the hunt, a skilled criminal mind. So calm, tracking your every move. Unrelenting my conscience clear beyond a shadow of a doubt a force to be feared. Professional Killer - KMFDM
  14. Personally I don't see the point of spending that kind of money on something as script-heavy when you can achieve the same results with simple prims. Better results even, as you're in direct control of every aspect of the light without having to go through a HUD.
  15. I think that you may be putting a little too much flour in your pancakes if they're ricochet-able ..
  16. Whichever you like. Yes, they essentially serve the same purpose - the other thread was made to explicitly put 'please don't re-post and don't flame people or their pictures' in the OP, since this thread was plagued by it even after the moderators threatened to lock the thread if it continued. Whichever you choose to post in is up to you, it doesn't really make much of a difference (I reckon most people who are active in the picture threads check both threads for new posts anyway). As far as double-posting goes .. Well, there's no proper rule against it, although a great many people frown on the practice (it feels attention-seeking-y; if you post both pics at more or less the same time, it'll just be two threads after each other in the list with the same content). Between these two threads and the vanity thread there'll even be the occasional triple-post, and then you can put your pics in some of the threads in the photography sub-forum, too!
  17. I've had this song firmly stuck in my head for 3 days, had to make a pic for it (watched the video on repeat too, it's amazeballs). We dance beneath the scarlet rain This makes us sick and beautiful Eat the flesh to fill your emptiness To become sick and beautiful Behold the beautiful vile lie Try to be sick and beautiful Like a stain in our creation We make it sick and beautiful Tried sharing it in the 'what are you listening to thread', but apparently YouTube has flagged it as mature content so it wouldn't let me embed it! Huffs.
  18. Not sure why, but this reminds me of when people made keybinds to crash servers in Jedi Knight II: Outcast, by changing the colour of their lightsaber by scrolling their mousewheel and spinning it like crazy. Half the time, you'd see a bit of a lag spike, then the aspiring e-terrorist would crash their own client and the server stabilised again - only if your own computer was good enough to withstand the stress for longer than the host's computer did it ever cause the server to shut down.
