  1. With the new 1.5.1 update even the small risk of possible problems in such case is gone. Before you only needed the web portion of the HUD to activate the BoM and chainge nails colors, the rest of the HUD never needed their servers in the first place. Now there are chat commands to activate BoM, clean layers etc. And the nails now support 3rd party appliers too (kit is available to everyone).
  2. I didn't bother to test too many of them, but a few female ones I did test are somewhat normal. Around 1.775 m (5 ft 9 in) for quite a few, not counting the shoebase (that adds another 10cm). Agent height (which is what LL viewer reports) is ~15m shorter and is incorrect, despite what some posters in this thread think. Not everyone wants to be a 2.1m tall amazons and 2.4m giants, nor enjoys having them around. Some do, and it's your/their choice. It is. And considering just how many things LL did wrong over the years, especially at the start of SL, that now take them years to fix, it shouldn't surprise anyone. Hard coded last names that took current LL staff years to fix is a good example. Being stuck with 512mb VRAM as the max possible option for the texture memory buffer is another one (when FS and some other viewers got it right ages ago) is another. Even if stick to the proportions/height alone, the fact alone that you end up with a T. Rex-like arms if you go above certain height, because the arms length at 100 is not enough after a certain point, is a very good example how inaccurate LL designed avatars back in the days. If that's how you like to look, then it's your choice. And to some of us it's a laughable caricature look, and that is what should be" kicked the curb" instead. Good thing there's plenty space in SL for everyone to enjoy things and find like-minded people that might share same views on height, shapes, mesh vs prim building and many other topics that often divide people who've been around forever and got used to how things were back in the days and new users that might enjo realism a bit more.
  3. Yeah, I do experience the same for the last 3 months or so. It's rare enough to not be a problem, but it's annoying to delete extra copies of unpacked items or demos on the next relog. Firestorm here as well, but not sure it's viewer related, and sadly testing it is very difficult as there's no obvious way to make it happen. In the past (years ago) I've had the same issue too, but even more rarely and it always happened around extra busy regions (usually big shopping events on the opening day), so I pretty much wrote it off onto the "half dead region" factor. Now it happens at my region too with 100% scripts run and over 10ms spare time too, so it can't be that.
  4. Yeah, shopping behavior is another story and depends on far too many factors. From how long resident have been around (the amount of redeliveries with updated sizes available to them), to how good or/and unique store's content is compared to the alternatives and how many of said alternative options there are, and the style/direction of an outfit/creation. What might attract the rare Gen X user simply because there's just not as many stores with stuff for them, might be unwanted by Legacy or Reborn users with (often) hundreds of similar options available. Sheer volume of Maitreya users still keeps their sales on top in most cases, however even in that there are exceptions. A few smaller creators I know personally have dropped Maitreya last year and only create for the Legacy+Reborn now and their sales didn't suffer much, as things they create are all aimed at the specific crowd that is very unlikely to use Maitreya anymore.
  5. If a bot encounters an avatar that, say, had Maitreya before (on the previous time bot has scanned that avatar) and Reborn now, then it makes changes so Maitreya goes down by 1 and Reborn goes up by 1. However, I'm pretty sure a huge chunk of those entires are/were not updated/seen by the bots for a long time, possibly years. People leave SL, people stop using certain avatars for one reason or another, but the unique wearer/entry stays. So I'd say it's more important to check the trending tab, than a total number of entries. Then it becomes obvious that bodies like Freya and Slinks (all of them) are, while still quite high on the list, are either stale or even on a negative trend (albeit rather slow one).
  6. And what exactly LL has released to compete with their own residents? I can't remember a single thing in a decade I'm around. The tech, like bento and animesh, and some others? It did provide users with more tools to create better products and compete with older products. Belliseria doesn't compete with private estates either as it's completely different product/experience aimed at the different customers. Those customers may continue to use their products as they are not going to vanish anywhere. Besides with how badly supported those products were in the last few years the remaining customers had enough reasons and time to find other options.
  7. Then you didn't follow news or threads about NUX at all. LL themselves said about it not being a replacement for any existing bodies/heads on the market, but rather a stepping stone for the new users so they'd get used to bento, mesh bodies/heads and everything else classic avatars lack compared to the modern ones. And so the new users wouldn't start with just as terrible look as they do now, too. I would guess it'll be similar quality to some of those gift mesh bodies+heads combinations I see around every now and then, some from Altamura and other stores. Not great by any means, but usable and still much better than those sticks classic avatars have instead of fingers and toes. Should they also provide everyone with a library full of quality bento animated furniture too then? How about quality landscape, decoration, vehicles? I know a big number of stores that used to make really good things for its time and then got abandoned or closed, with creators leaving SL for a while or for good. Because I also did help a number of people with pointing them towards good stores after they got baited by something like "the best bed in SL for a mere L$5000" on the MP only to find it's some old garbage. As you can guess it's new users for the most part, as more experienced ones already know better. No, we do not. Slink hasn't been relevant as far as new creators/creations go for quite sometime. Some big few that can afford to pay the rigger still have HG size included in some releases, but that's about it. And C&C never got any support whatsoever. Like others have said, she did her part in and for SL, some of it was successful and appreciated, like hands/feet pre-mesh bodies days. Some not so much, like the C&C body. She moves on now, and it's time to move on from her creations, too.
  8. No, they should not. Like Blaise already sayd C&C was a big mistake by Slink. The body that no one wanted and used, aside of body's creator, of course. But most importantly, the only mesh body and classic head is not a great solution to say the least, so they'd have to also get the deal for the compatible mesh heads, put it all together along with working skins, starting outfits and so on. It's not a day's worth of work, not a week's and probably not even a month's knowing LL. NUX avatars will most likely be out before this could ever be finished anyway. Besides LL has already invested resources and time into developing those, so they won't (and shouldn't) put time and money into such questionable temporary solution.
  9. I do believe 1st two round of their free heads last years had a faster start, but I also do think both will continue to go up the lists for a while. Mostly because many people didn't really had a chance or time to actually use them yet, thanks to the busy time in rl with holidays. Same for all those hordes of alts some people have, it's relatively fast to pick up all that pretty stuff, but setting it up on a large number of avatars is rather time consuming. And pretty sad, but many of those who could use it are just not aware of this opportunity as they are not "invested" enough to follow all those social media channels or to join shopping groups. I did check around a few usual spots I go to if I feel social enough in the last days and the amount of that horrendous genus free head users didn't drop there one bit (it did a bit on the Lucia's list, but not nearly as much as it should have). I've told a few of them to go grab it and pretty much all of them did and were most happy about it, but can't really tell it to everyone.
  10. There's zero problems using appliers eyes as well, and saving different outfits is not any different - just copy mesh eyes, change the copy to the desired texture and save outfit with that copy. Also BoM eyes are not capable of heterochromia and any kind of mixing and matching at all, unless they are made that way, which is rarely (if ever) the case, and then you're stuck with just that one option anyway. With appliers you can apply different sets to the left/right eye and it opens a whole lot of variety for some specific looks.
  11. Very true. As far as bodies go, Kupra creators had around 2.5k kups bodies given for free on their 2nd anniversary event a couple of months ago. It had a weekly boost of like 90 entries, then went into negative trend again. So essentially it didn't change a thing for that body at all, it did remain barely used and seen. And temporary free heads examples - Catwa Queen. It's somewhat used, but I would imagine there are way more people who got it when it was free, but either didn't use it at all, or stopped using it after they've got something better looking and supported.
  12. Lucia's system has been up for quite sometime now, so I'm sure quite a few of those unique entries are not updated forever since bots didn't bump onto the same avatars anymore. Do check other options there, most importantly the trending tab. It will give you a bit better picture of what's popular/trending and what is on decline. For example Kupra - it had 315 new wearers detected in the last 90 days, and for the last week it's actually on a negative trend (means avatars that had it on when bots scanned them the last time, now using something else). I remember it had around 12.5k entries detected when Reborn had like 6-7k just half a year ago, now Reborn is about to surpass it in 2-3 weeks, depending how holidays gonna affect the sales. Another example: Belleza - Freya | 7205 | 1.7% | -5 | -18 (2.5) | -30 (2.1) | -79 (2.6) | -186 (2) | -68 (0.3) Some mesh bodies were re-uploaded under different account for one reason or another. Kupra surely was. First one was under creator's main account I believe, but shortly after the release it was reuploaded under the store's account. So it could be it, or perhaps it's the very first version of Slink female body. It was later (been so long ago, but I think it was late 2014 - early 2015) reworked enough so clothing made for first version didn't fit the updated version anymore, kinda like Belleza Jake 1.0's rings don't fit the 2.0 (and up) versions.
  13. It's Lucia Nightfire's system. You can check her profile to find a link to the up to date stats. I believe her forum signature also should have a link to it if you have those turned on. I didn't really like them (as a company/creators) in the past, but out of people I chat/interact with some did and when new bodies were announced even they weren't all excited about that. Most said the exactly same few things, which would be: "Another body that will get abandoned." ; "Another body that will take forever to get fixes and updates, like Freya." ; and "I'm happy with Legacy/Reborn now." I said this before, but it's really not 2014-2016 anymore. Back then their bodies were among first ones on the market, and Freya was the only decent option for the more curvy/thick look for years (Slink HG was an option, too, kinda, but it has a rather specific shape). Even when they took forever to update hands to bento (which took over 1.5 years, compared to a few months for Slink's and Maitreya's updates) people still kept using it. Slink started to lose popularity around then as well, so it was either Maitreya or Freya for the most people who wanted new releases/clothing. But then Legacy was released, which gets curvy enough if you want it to, unlike Maitreya which is just not a good option for the more thick looks due to how it starts to deform past certain amount of sliders. Kupra was the next one, and it did pull another chunk of Freya users, those who wanted way over the top thick look, which Legacy does worse then Freya. And the final nail in the coffin - Reborn. It's in the middle between Legacy and Kupra thickness wise, it scales down and up well, it has so much addons to play with, it got a great creators support from the first months it was around (probably even more than Legacy has gotten on release, and there was a lot of support for it too), it is updated often with new features. It's even mod for those 5 forum people who care about the mod bodies. /s And then comes the blast from the past, Belleza, with their 5.5k bodies that have absolutely nothing to offer aside of the "it's new" factor. Maybe they thought their old customer base will jump back just like that. But nope, they did not. Brand loyality is a thing sometimes, but nothing lasts forever, and the (active, so not those who wear freya bodies and catya heads still, most of those most likely can't be bothered to swap to anything else) customer base they've had was lost ages ago. Gen X event was "okay" for a start, some usable stuff from good creators here and there, but it had to be even more next month, and even more later if they wanted to keep up. What happened instead? A few (original mesh) creators who were at the Gen X event announced as "partners" already dropped Gen x in their next releases. For examples - CX and AsteroidBox. The former made one item for their bodies that was on that event, the latter - three, but last few releases have no gen x sizes anymore as there's no point. So given the current market, general mesh bodies oversaturation, and their reputation they did everything wrong. The price, the lack of discounts for the old bodies users, lack of PR, slow (who would have guessed /s ) updates/fixes again, two bodies instead of one for some unknown reason. To get things going you gotta invest into the ecosystem first. For example - some last generations home consoles (for gaming) were sold at a loss at their release and for quite sometime later, means their manufacturing cost and expenses to get them to the customers were more than they were sold at. But growing a userbase is more important on the long run, so more games for those consoles would be sold, and eventually it all gets balanced and makes both, console's and games developing companies, profit. So to end this wall of text, I do believe they are very much clueless, like you've said. And while they did try a bit more than Slink did with their C&C body, it was nowhere enough. That and the fact market is just not big enough for even one more popular body, even less for two. And aside of Kupra, which many creators did/do drop anyway, there's just nothing else to drop for the most when it comes to rigging. Maitreya+Legacy+Reborn plus extra sizes for petite/perky/pushup options is already a lot of work to rig, throw in maze thighs for 2-3 bodies, juicy rolls and mounds for Reborn (sometimes) to make it even worse. Some big brands can afford to hire a rigger and add extra sizes, but those most unique/original creators usually do all by themselves.
  14. Linden security sounds like you have one of LL BellIseria homes. And I believe those orbs have 400m range and don't work at all if placed between 100m and 2000m range. So essentially it is useless for privacy, but will work for kicking out people who'd like to cam>sit on your furniture on the ground or skybox (over 2000m) levels.
  15. It's a resident to resident dispute because you paid for the rental services to other resident. LL doesn't and can't know what your deal with them was. And it's entirely in land's owner right to, say, increase their prices by 10000%, or just sell/abandon their land without any notice. Does it suck when stuff like happened to you is the case? Absolutely. But given it's not too large amount of money consider it a valuable lesson. Either pay for land to LL directly, or do some research and rent from those who have years of good repuration and take this seriously. For example Chungs have been around SL forever and own thousands of regions, residental and commercial onces. Prices aren't the lowest, but you get what you pay for, without some sudden tier increase and other hassles. There are others like that, too. Like Dreamseeker, WRE etc Another important note if you'd ever rent again - check you're paying to the estate owners/tier boxes owned by them (or their tech/support accounts). It's easy to check, just open region/parcel tabs and check who the estate/region/parcel owner is, then check owner of the rental/tier box. There's a lot of subrentals around, those who rent from above-mentioned large estates and just re-sell it. Now those might vanish randomly, kick you out etc. There has been the case 3 years ago I think, when right before Xmas someone like that dropped around 10-15 regions with their sub-renters and then estate owner had to step in and fix that mess herself the best she could even if some of those scammed people were angry at her (they did check she was an estate owner and thought it was her doing). Pretty standard rules. Now I don't say it didn't happen to you, otherwise I woudn't bother to type the rest, but anyone can hop on forums and say "I've got scammed by X" even if it's not the case. Where that X might be a popular store for example. Now forum userbase is rather small, but it still might start some rumors and hurt said store's reputation.
  16. And most of that clothing has a way better alternative these days. With an exception of some very specific fantasy and RP focused clothing here and there. I was actually recently sorting out my old outfits and clothes, and while it's female clothing it's still pretty much the same in this context. Earlier outfits even from a rather well know creators like Blueberry and Addams did not age well at all. Comparing their 2015 jeans (among first Maitreya rigged releases) and 2020+ ones it's day and night kind of difference. I wouldn't take those early 2015 these days even if they were free. Same valid for many rezzable things, too. A rare few did age a bit better, but vast majority of mesh furniture from 2012-2014 years I've found in my inventory went straight to the "backup" folder. Mesh itself is fine in many cases, but textures are far worse and can't be fixed without an UV for the said furniture pieces, plus ancient animations (can be replaced by other animations, but far too much work considering issue with textures). But yeah, some exceptions here and there do exist. Clothing wise I think a few older (but still decent looking) outfits by Deadwool don't have Legacy size, and a few victorian outfits by ContraptioN before he started to rig for Legacy are also out there. Those slower, but more high quality creators do update things as well, though, just way slower. Regular Legacy Male never got a fix indeed. Legacy Athletic was released without that issue already. That's why I think Athletic is a better choice given how similar they look anyway. Although to be fair, unless someone walks around in just shorts as their only outfit, and that happens on high altitude (below 350-500m is fine), then it's all the same. Ground level is fine, and when it's all alphaed under clothes it also doesn't matter obviously. Creator kit is terrible, though. Like Maitreya's kit level of terrible. That's one of the main reasons why some creators dropped it, at least ones I know a bit. Legacy's kits are not super great either, however.
  17. As far as new clothes/releases are concerned, Legacy is nearly always in two supported bodies most creators rig for. I mean the original content, not FP recolors. Some continue to rig for 3 or even more bodies, but a lot have have dropped either Gianni or Jake, depends on the store. For example toksik and kai dropped Gianni a while ago already, and Native Urban dropped Jake with just a few releases out, while everything new there is Legacy+Gianni only. I think all 3 options are fine, but if I were making a male avatar now I'd get Legacy Athletic. Normal one never got an update to fix high altitude seams on it, but they both fit same clothing in 99% cases anyway, and shape wise there's barely any difference even if compare side by side. That's personal preferences, though, as I'm not a fan of Gianni's torso and arms, and not a fan of Jake's bubble butt either (all belleza bodies have that). If price is not an issue, then I wouldn't worry about irrelevant complexity numbers as they have been played for so many years already, nor about the external servers. Only two things server side that are needed to be done once are activating BoM and changing nails colors (if someone gonna use 3rd party nails, then not even that). It's still shouldn't be a thing as any and all web based HUDs, but not nearly as bad as some people make it sound. Change/activate it once, make a backup (or a few) of a ready to use body, and even if SL will do its SL thing and borks the body, then just copy the backup, replace the links and continue as is.
  18. TURB's creator doesn't even mind if people "grab his textures" , mod them and sell if they want to. As long as they don't re-sell his original textures. He had such note at his flickr pictures for each product, but it seems his account has been hit by the "flickr police" for not being a "pro", so they are gone, at least for now.
  19. You've described 6.6.3 as it already had performance code from LL, micro freeze (should be fixed in 6.6.8) and objects vanishing. It's the release candidate FS at this moment, so you didn't miss an update. You can join FS beta testing group in-world and get a download link from the group notices. Or just wait a bit more, it'll probably get released by the end of this week/early next week as the next FS, unless people will find some serious issues with it.
  20. Any month year now. It's belleza after all, they updated to bento like 1 year after everyone else did (and still got it wrong). BoM update - even longer. And yeah, 20% off is not enough given how expensive it is and so many alternatives now. I didn't expect them to do any sale, given the release window/event ended less than a month ago, so it's better than nothing at all. However Maitreya, Legacy, Kupra are all 50% off now, Reborn 25% off. One would think they'd try to catch up a bit for the super slow start, but nope.
  21. I really am not much into vehicles for the driving reasons as I don't enjoy exploring mainland, but still have a few for the decor purposes. I do have a little track in the skies in my region, however. They (ACS scripted vehicles) are not just bad, they are between bad and unusable. One bike creator sent me a few "ultra slow" versions of ones I bought from him to mitigate the problem. Still far from good, but at least they've stopped to accelerate at worst possible moment. I'd rather have some arcade-ish control, than this.
  22. I tell that to people if they ask me for some pointers about upgrading from their older heads too. Lots still go and buy it anyway. But yeah, it's most popular non freebie/temporary freebie head, by far.
  23. It was released at March. It just happened to be on a 50% discount there. Lelutka does that sometimes, some male heads of theirs were at 50% at a few men oriented shopping events before. And yeah, people often have other they already liked. And then there are trends, too. People see Avalon everywhere, in-world and the MP/flickr, and think it's the best one. So they go and buy Avalon too, and the cycle continues as they start adding to the amount of Avalons around. Which is a good looking head, but not really any better than other Lel heads. I suppose it fits the "standard pretty look" more than some others, though.
  24. Last year those 3 regions Lelutka had just to give away their freebies were camped out too, even if there was nothing else at all, just boards to grab those. So they had to put out the time based eject orbs (10 minutes I believe, which is way more than enough to get the board rezzed, grab the gift and tp out). It's not exclusive to Lelutka and black friday sales, though. I see it at the big shopping events all the time. It's understandable when people don't want to leave after finally getting in on the opening days, so they demo things right there, which might take a decent amount of time. But when I grab some demos before work, then go to work, get home and finally log to SL, demo things home, get back to the event to buy what I want to and still see same people I saw there like 10-12 hours ago, standing at the exactly same spots... yeah. They did not. Even freebie Queen is 15th on the Lucia's stats list with below 5k users detected (Lel's female freebies Lilly and Kaya are 20.5k and 18.8k). HDPro "retail" ones are just nowhere to be found, with 500 to 1.5k entries on the same list. Personal opinion, (obviously), but that seems about right. Even price aside, and before Lelutka reduced price from 5k to 4k during all that early 2020 stuff it was almost the same, they are just not good. The "revolutionary" features that apparently were worked on for ages are just good old deformers and (again, in my opinion), they look even worse than older Catwa heads, and I really dislike old Catwa heads. The infamous duck lips on the most popular few, cartoon-ish animations, rather terrible HUDs and so on. If anything I'm surprised they got as popular as they were back in the days, pre-bento and early generation of bento ones. What is nice and what is not really depends on the preferences. It can be seen if you read my and Ayashe's posts one after another. She likes the Queen head, I wouldn't use it even if someone would paid me money to. I don't dislike Akeruka heads personally, but don't like them either. Kinda like Genus ones before that. And I saw people really liking their LAQ heads too, while to me they always do look the same and have some kind of a "doll" look (in a sense of a doll toy) that I really dislike. --- As for the sales themselves, since it happened to be a thread about those - yep, looking towards those a lot. We have no RL sales here at all during that time which would be worth checking, so I will be focusing on SL ones instead. I saw some people find it stressful, but for me it is not. I tend to prepare and organize things a lot. All the demos that I liked, but didn't get right away go to either weekend sales or big sales folders, depending on what they are and what creator made them (some do weekend sales, some do not). There's a notecard with furniture/decor/other rezzables list within big sales folder too, where I add some things that I think might be some use, but not something I want/need right away. So when the sale hits I just go through the list and avoid most crowded stores for the first day of the sales as it's just a waste of time to try and get in, when there are so many other stores. But I realize not everyone keep such lists, or even capable of doing so, so I can see how it can be stressful to try and get in everywhere, try demos and return to buy things in time when there will be hundreds of stores to check. It also would be even more difficult if I had more than one avatar I need to shop for, I can only guess the amount of headaches to get 2-3 (or more) of them through the sales. And some people have way more than 2-3 active avatars, so yeah, that sounds like a painful experience.
  25. You don't have to pay for premium anymore as LL changed it sometime this Summer. However it's still cheaper to pay 30$ for the Premium Plus month and for the PP's name change 15$ versus paying 50$ for the name change "as is". Especially given ~10.5$ worth of L$ you'd get back over next 4 weeks.
