  1. LL is still in pre-alpha (per the message you replied to). They're likely still working on the graphics engine -- more creators means more content of different types to use to test the engine. There wouldn't be anything for a consumer or a 'norm' to do. Even in beta there won't be much for anyone but creators to do initially because it'll be like the beginning of SL. If you want content you'll have to build it yourself while others are creating things to sell and to do.
  2. MishkaKatyusha wrote: ah yes,you are very intelligent sir,you guessed the statement of my speech without it being too clear i do consider the people who work for the company to be a sub culture.SL is obviously different from other games, and continues to do so.so therefore its quite logically sound, especially considering SL's immense age,to consider the devs a sub culture I think you've missed what Dres was saying. A company named Atlassian makes bug-reporting software named Jira. Linden Lab has licensed Jira to use for bug reporting in SL. It's therefore common to tell people to file a Jira report when they find a bug. There are no LL sub-cultures involved in the name Jira -- it's just the name of the product.
  3. The Brendens you're looking for would all have rez dates in May 2009. So far I've found (first name & number of bots using that first name): Brenden - 10 Heaven - 2 Natalia - 5 (I haven't seen a Natalya) Riley - 4 Selena - 5 All of the above have rez dates in May 2009 and empty or near-empty profiles.

Lillie can't be right; Maddy *never* tells anyone she's sorry! That was a great video. Thanks for sharing it, Maddy. I won't be surprised if Wisconsin is soon reporting gnome house sightings.
  5. I tested this with an alt who is a member of my group but does not have return powers. I created three boxes: - a box I owned - a box I owned but shared with my group - a box that was deeded to the group (therefore owned by the group) My alt couldn't return the box I owned or the deeded box, but was able to return the one shared with the group. He could've taken the shared object as well. I almost never share items, but I believe that's the expected behavior. It's not something you'd normally set unless you wanted someone to take the item or take a copy. ETA: Unfortunately, you have to share the object before you can deed it so it's quite possible to do the first step & forget the second.
  6. Happy Holidays! I was exploring up north and happened to catch Santa celebrating after his delivery run. I think he'd already had a few.
  7. Cinnamon Mistwood wrote: Ooooh We're sharing holiday songs! Yay! Here is a traditional one played in my household: Happy days-getting-longer time of year! I like that one. Here's something not at all like it: or a bit more to my taste:
  8. I'm not sure where you came up with the idea that LL might be building anything like IMVU. Sansar is LL's new infrastructure for virtual worlds, but this time LL isn't going to create their own world. They're planning on selling/renting their infrastructure to people & companies who will create their own virtual worlds (which LL is calling experiences). It will be a couple years before LL manages to release Sansar and for people to create worlds with content. I'm not worrying about it.
  9. Maddy's post at 2015-11-27 10:45 PM said in part: "That said, Parheliion Palou is drop dead gorgeous (sorry Par!) with grey hair and weathering." I think she meant a different Parhelion; she spelled it Parheliion. If in fact she did mean me, I must say her tastes are a bit unusual. This is me: In Maddy's most recent post she said: "And Kelli's right, young is automatic here. Mags, Par and irihapeti put significant effort into appearing older/more imperfect." I did put significant effort into my usual look (not the one above) at the time, but it's been almost 4 years since I did more than small tweaks. I got Par to "good enough". Four years ago Par looked older than I did IRL, but I've been catching up. I don't believe I've ever seen irihapeti in-world, but I suspect she looks more real than most avatars. People have all sorts of imperfections - we look symmetrical from a distance, but up close not so much. My answer to the thread's question is I'm not currently getting older in Second Life, but I might if I get to be significantly older than Par. I wanted Par's usual look to be similar to my own because Par is a reflection of me. He's what I look like after hopping through the portal from RL to SL's world. He's my default appearance in SL, but I've been everything from a glowing sphere to various dragons, penguins, animals, aliens, robots, even a sunflower or a tree. (I've recently found a great hobbit house, so if anyone knows of a good hobbit avatar I'd love to hear about it.) I'm glad most people don't feel the need to look like their RL selves. SL wouldn't be as much fun without the tinies, elves, aliens, and all the other avatars people have created.
  10. Dashti Crumb wrote: I'm not sure if you're trolling or just a massive Feminist. but if it's the Latter, please Stfu and stay on tumblr where you belong. Your first (and hopefully last) post on the SL Forums is a rude reply to a thread that's been dead for 16 months? Thanks anyway - I enjoyed this thread when it was new and I enjoyed reading it again. You've revealed all that I want to know about you in just two sentences. Accordingly I've banned you from all land I control. It's highly unlikely you'll ever be affected, but it makes me happy.
  11. This thread has some catching up to do, so ... Happy Thursday! Happy Friday! Happy Saturday! I hope everyone is having a good weekend.
  12. SL (as in the servers) hasn't had a built-in weather system for many years ... probably over a decade now. Weather (rain or snow) is done via gadgets. ETA: fix grammar
  13. Alyssa Quicksand wrote: Okay, I understand now, my chars have been 2 bytes each, or more! I have to find an extended ASCII chars table, or, is it advised not to use them for now until SL has addressed the log in bug? You can find the extended ASCII table on http://ascii-code.com/ (or search in your favorite search engine for extended ASCII table). You'll find various characters with accents and a few common symbols, but not the sort of thing people use for display names with upside-down appearing characters - that requires Unicode. Extended ASCII characters are only 1 byte, so there's no problem using them that I know of.
  14. Amethyst Jetaime wrote: You are allowed 20 single-byte characters. Some ASCII characters are worth more than one byte. So you can reach your limit before you hit 20 characters. Please be careful using ASCII characters. Some will not allow somone to log into SL if they are wearing the tag when they log out. It's better to avoid them altogether. ASCII characters are all one byte. It's Unicode you need to watch out for -- it can use 1 or 2 bytes.
  15. Garrett Latzo wrote: Hello again, Do these even get answered ? I also wanted to know if there may be an application process to propose ideas ? Danke, Garrett Latzo The last replies by Linden Lab or Ebbe were in mid-July (3 months ago). It seems they've lost interest in this thread.
  16. Madelaine McMasters wrote: Persephone Emerald wrote: If you can afford to pay $72/ year and if you can keep track of your payments so you don't forget to pay when this money is due each year, then this is the most cost effctive way to play in SL. When you figure in the $L 300 weekly stipend and the $L 1000 signing bonus you get after being Premium for one month, your net cost is about $ 6/month. At $72/yr, it's your gross cost that's $6/month, not your net. At a conversion rate of 250 L$ per US$, the signing bonus returns $4 and the stipend returns $1.20/week. Fifty two weeks of stipend is $62.40. Add in the bonus and an annual premium membership of $72 gives you $64.40 back in spending money. So the net cost of the Linden home/512m2 plot and additional benefits cost you $7.60/year or $0.63/month. I'd like to add two corrections: $62.40 + $4.00 = $66.40, not $64.40. Second, you get the signing bonus once. The first year your cost after bonus & stipend is $5.60 or about $0.47/month. In subsequent years your cost goes to $9.60/year or $0.80/month. Note: Amounts are in U.S. dollars. The Linden-to-dollar conversion can (and does) change. Your results may vary. The child in me insists on adding: Maddy made an error! Maddy made an error! :smileywink: I started when the stipend was L$400 per week, so premium membership is a net gain for me.
  17. It's Sunday! Just a few more hours and it's Maddy's Peak of the Week.
  18. Happy Friday! I've got less than a week before I give up my land on Petite Gaule. I rented a 2K parcel a little over 9 years ago; I've kept that parcel and added others over the years. It's silly, but my land there is like an old friend. I hate for it to go without some acknowledgement. Here are a few pictures of parts of the latest iteration: That cabin has been around for 9 years -- one of my first builds (though with some updated textures) and still within the boundaries of that first parcel. I've started working on a homestead region; half the LI but full control of the region and a lot less money per month. Have a good weekend!
  19. You mention names beginning with R and S and others that have the same first name. It's possible you're seeing some of a large number of bots that were created in 2009 but didn't start showing up until the last year or so. So far I've spotted 2 - 7 different ones for each first name. The first names I know of are Brenden, Heaven, Natalia, Riley, and Selena. If these match up with what you're seeing, it's just bots and not stalkers. If not ... ban lines or security orbs are about all you can do.
  20. Misty Rookstown wrote: City of Heroes is a very silly and down right stupid comparison. I put money into that game but SL for some is a business and an investment that has a return on that investment. For example there is a literal real world millionaire that made their money from SL land speculation. Comparing that to a pay to play superhero computer game is beyond stupid. It is old but in my mind some kind of way to transistion between the two would be the best solution. Also ways to convert inventory over when possible. Say a content creator that is still current having the new version on the new platform and just getting a kind of redeliver box might be one way. I just want to see LL update there idea of customer service and update there integrity. The mess they created with skill games was a disaster that never needed to happen if they worked it out like they should have back in 2007 SL is a business for a lot of people, but I doubt any would call it an investment. It's something to make money off of while they can. The 'literal real world millionaire' is making money by renting out parcels on her regions, not by land speculation. Land speculation died years ago; it was really a real estate bubble due to SL's sudden popularity causing a shortage of land. Linden Lab popped it. Sansar is not SL. It's supposed to be new from the ground up. There may be no compatibility at all. We were told that all we could expect to transfer over is our names and Lindens. As for conversion: Mesh creators already have their models on their own computers; it may take some work, but those models might be made compatible with Sansar. I'd expect creators of system clothing and prim-based objects to be out of luck.
  21. Weston Lane wrote: I had a couple more questions about the new Sansara if anyone knows: 1. Is there an official launch date for the beta and then the full version? Nobody knows -- Sansar is very early in its development. 2. Will LSL still be used or will the new system use universal computing languages so as to be more in line with rest of the world? No LSL -- word is that C# will be used. 3. Will Linden Dollars be used and if so their exchange rate the same? LL says Lindens will still be used. As for the exchange rate ... who knows? 4. Will Linden Labs drop the prices of their monthly tier for SL 1 (Mainland and Estate) since they are undermining its value by doing their damndest to get people to leave? LL has already said there will be no mainland. My guess is that Sansar is LL's new virtual world hosting product. Companies will come to them (LL hopes) to host virtual worlds. Perhaps some company will use Sansar to build an SL-like virtual world with mainland. 5. Will there still be any "Mainland" for those of us vehicle lovers, planes, sailors etc to use? If not what happens to that segment? See above 6. Will alts and bots be allowed in the new SL? *Way* too early to know that. 7. Will Linden Labs report to the public what their figures are so those of us who feel they got worked over now will have some warning when SL 2 fades to SL 3? Magic 8 Ball says ... Not likely. Again, who knows? 8. Does Linden Labs support the idea of a user run community much like Open Source...or do they plan to control everytthing in SL 2? By the way, it is definitely not SL2. As for how the community is run, that's would be up to the experience owners. Ebbe at one point said experience owners could use LL's registration system or do their own. If the experience owners have that level of control then they're the ones who'll decide how things are run in their 'experience'. 9. Will SL 2 be involved in Hypergrid or whatever technology could link it with other virtual worlds? I haven't heard anything definitive about it. My guess is no. I'm sure more will come to mind, but I hope we can have a civil discussion without any flames. Thanks
