  1. Here's something you missed at Hippiestock 4: (Maddie's Pyramid of Doom, er Peace)
  2. After you create the group, make sure you get a second member of the group soon (it could be an alt). Groups with only one member are disbanded after 48 hours. You wouldn't be able to create a group with that name again.
  3. Some places don't allow newbies - that could be why you were kicked out of places you visited. I suggest trying the places Pussycat suggested. Another place to try is Caledon Oxbridge. SL can be used as a chat room, but that's just one of many things that can be done. I recommend starting at one of the places that help new people and doing a lot of exploring. It may take awhile, but you'll likely find something that interests you. Edited to add: The tutorial at Caledon will tell you most of what you need to know to get things and wear them. There will be people around who can help too.

Perhaps none of you play other games out there, but believe me, Linden belongs in the dinosaur age as far as development and response to customers goes. While people are happy to continue paying vast amounts of real world money and accept sub par service, Linden will continue to make their $100 million a year and be very pleased about it. It's only by complaining and raising issues or by voting with your feet and going elsewhere that we can encourage Linden to actually enter the 21st century and update regularly. At the moment all I see is an extremely complacent company with a bunch of overly loyal supporters who are happy to let this kind of service continue. Weekly updates aren't regular enough for you? LL is a small private company managing a very complex product. They can't do anything quickly. When they try the results are usually bad. Complaining in the SL Forums has the same effect as complaining to a passing squirrel; Linden Lab doesn't pay attention to either. I assume you've voted with your feet and are leaving or have left SL. So long & have a nice life.

I don't know it that's still an active thing; the most recent comments I found on Google referenced what happened in 2011 and what was planned for 2012. It might have been shut down. There are several Forum contributors who have talked about being part of SLCC eventis in the past. Maybe one or more will add some useful information. If I recall correctly, SLCC was always done by groups of residents. Linden Lab used to provide sponsorships and speakers. Last year Linden Lab demanded things that AvaCon (the group that did the 2011 SLCC) couldn't afford, so there was no 2012 SLCC. I didn't hear of any attempts to do one this year.
  6. That viewer is over 2 years old and isn't compatible with Server Side Appearance (the way SL displays avatars now). I suggest trying a different viewer.
  7. Congratulations! Your usual group seems to be away. I know Val's out hunting mushrooms. Maddy's probably stuck deciding which of her schemes is the most nefarious. So many to choose from ...
  8. Czari Zenovka wrote: I think it's a stupid idea meant to cater to a "diverse population" that were born with joysticks in their hands. Did you really mean to call the OP's idea stupid? It isn't something LL thought up. LL won't port the viewer to a console. The viewer code would have to be rewritten -- I don't think any console understands OpenGL, for one thing. LL doesn't have people who know how to create console software and a company that does have the ability wouldn't have any interest in it. No money to be made. I wouldn't want to run SL without a keyboard anyway. A joystick alone would make building and chatting very difficult.
  9. Some furniture is phantom - there are poses built in that put you in the right position when you sit on it. However, if you're seeing the 'move' pointer it's possible you've got the edit window open & are editing the furniture (possibly to move it into position). Close the edit window and it should be fine.
  10. The typical exchange rate to buy Lindens on the Linden Exchange has been L$247 for $1 US for quite a long time. The most I remember it being was around L$265 for $1 US, but that was in 2006/2007.
  11. Your college was using a special registration type that limits you to the regions owned by the college (their 'estate'). If you want to go elsewhere in SL you'll need to go to SL's website and create a new avatar through SL's usual registration process.

I forgot to snap a pic of me sitting next to him. We could have used that to start a whole new argument discussion! ;-) It was a real privilege to meet you, Maddy If my memory is correct, we looked just right sitting next to each other so, unless you have incredibly short legs, our sizes are well matched To my knowledge, there were 2 pics taken of us together at the table. One was taken by Tex and is in his SL feed, and the other was taken by someone else and passed to me. Both are snaps of the 4 ofus at the table - Tex, Trinity, you and me - and don't show a frontal view of us side-by-side, but a good idea can be got from the one in Tex's feed. Here's one Oh wow !!!! i just browse the forum before going in bed and what i see ????? a pic of me with Phil, Maddy and Tex !!!!! Showing that i kept the whole watermelon for me !!!! Parhelion, this is a great pic here ... but you missed the more important !!! ... Phil's new shoes !!!! ive licked them before starting to eat the watermelon and i must say they were really tasty hehehehhehe...And yes !!! Phil has new shoes ... and cute ones ! Then you missed also the moment when Maddy emptyed Tex's pocket and then gaves Tex's keys to Phil (his accomplice). And to finish.. if you had taken the pic from the other side, not only you would have me in better shot, but you would have notice that Tex had big boobs errr a big scarf in the front, that was probably the reason he had to sit thru the bench then lol.. Well anyway, thank you for this great pic.... i feel a lil special to see im on pics and named even in thread i am not *giggles*, i have to tell Tex too lol.. i guess he will feel same as me :smileywink: You just gave me a big smile before going in bed :smileyhappy: PS : and yes Czari, id be happy to see you one of those days at this breakfasts ! Here are two pictures from the other side. I didn't catch the scarf or the shoes unfortunately. It looks like you were drinking from the watermelon rather than eating it ... what was inside?

I'm not a cowgirl, but know how to swing an iron on its power cord. So that's what happened to your husband. :matte-motes-wink:
  15. If the land you're rezzing things on is deeded to a group, make sure you have that group active. Otherwise whatever you rezz will be set to a different group than the land group & is liable to be autoreturned.
  16. Michaelatv Destiny wrote: <snip> Until LL recognises EU users finance difficulties, and lowers it stupid land rates, Second life will very soon take a dive on the stock market it will never pull out of. Linden Lab is a private company -- they're not on the stock market. Ban lines Should be banned totally in SL, and only orbs allowed. oceans must have there own servers, so they remain at 0% lag. It really is a mess, and I havent rented land or bought any for over 18 months now , because its just not worth fighting the inherent faults within the program, that have never been tackled since 2003. Only teleporting has improved, But flying 20 grid crossings with a full commercial airliner with 6 passengers, to another airport is still a dream that will never come true, until LL completely changes the whole infrastructure of how second life works. The people who own land have the right to use ban lines as they wish (within covenant restrictions on private estates). Taking away ban lines would upset a lot of people for the benefit of relatively few. LL isn't going to waste entire servers on individual regions of ocean -- it's an expense with no profit potential. SL is a general-purpose virtual world platform, not a flight simulation platform. Prove to LL that they could make money by providing a platform suited to flight simulation and perhaps they'd consider it.
  17. inticement wrote: Actually, there is a policy in place. It is in Terms of Service, Community Standards, Adult Rated sims and only effects a sim with a Adult rating. There IS NO min. for Mature or General sims, ONLY ADULT I couldn't find anything about minimum avatar height in either the TOS or Community Standards. Would you mind quoting the information from either?
  18. Madelaine McMasters wrote: Hiya Par! It sounds like Czari should check her PSU then, for a 6-pin cable that mates directly with the GPU. Absent that, my suggestion applies. Eight power supplies in 4.5 years? If those were all for computers you still own, where do you sleep? You could say I own most of them, but they're not in my possession. A couple were for computers I built for friends, some for family computers (my kids), and a couple for my own machines (I have 2).
  19. Madelaine McMasters wrote: Czari Zenovka wrote: Another question has come to mind. I did some quick web research and think I know the answer but, just in case, to hook up the graphics card to my PSU with the molex, I'm assuming I need to plug both of the two 3-pin molex connectors into the corresponding receptors in my PC and then the 6-pin into the card. When I was trying to install the card on Sunday I just plugged one of the two 3-pins into a connector. If that was incorrect, that would probably have been a disaster even if I'd had the VGA adapter. :matte-motes-bashful-cute: I don't know if it would have been a disaster, but it looks like the GPU card requires more power than can be delivered via the PCI card slot, so they tap into two hard drive power cables for the extra oomph. Connecting only one of them might have resulted in flaky operation. Make sure you plug into two separate Molex pigtails coming from the PSU. I remember a couple of my old PCs had multiple Molex connectors daisy-chained off the same four wires from the PSU. If you find a cable like that, don't plug both GPU cables into it, as you're really then drawing power from the PSU on only one set of wires. Say "Hi" to your Dad for me. I'm also an electrical engineer, and I may be retired (I'm not sure). I've installed a couple NVidia 660s in computers lately - they only have one 6-pin power connector. From what I see on Newegg, the recommended power supply for Czari's card is 450W, so a 480W supply should work. ETA: I see what I missed ... the adapter takes 2 Molex connections and feeds them to a single 6-pin. Redirecting this to Czari: All the power supplies I've bought in the last few years have had at least one 6-pin connector for video cards. Cheaper or off-brand power supplies are more likely to skip them. A 600W supply is likely more than is needed, but get a known brand. I've bought 8 Corsair power supplies over the last 4.5 years & have had no trouble with them. I've also had good luck with Seasonic and PC Power & Cooling.
  20. You can buy HDMI cables at most any store that sells TVs or other electronics (even WalMart). They'll all work the same (assuming the cable isn't defective). Big box stores will rip you off selling fancy HDMI cables ... just get whatever is cheapest. If you can wait a few days you can find HDMI cables online for far less than at any local store. ETA: Maddy was far quicker than me - as usual.
  21. Emma Krokus wrote: <snip> My question at this time is on which OS SL would perform best. Though I may well be asking "What's a nice PC for SL and how much does it cost?" next. <snip> Emma If only the OS is considered, SL would run best on Windows since that's what LL develops it for first. My only comment on Apple is the Apple II was a nice machine, the Apple 3 less so, and everything after that was a closed system - I prefer to build my own machines.
