  1. Putting together a blog post === forget the shop and hop hair -- I want HIM!!!!
  2. Just a note to this thread which may have already been said somewhere. Baking to a 2048 x 2048 works very well. A bunch of us did some testing a couple of years ago and unless it has changed the uploader does a better job of turning that into a 1024 image (maxium more or less in SL) than our various graphics programs --- but might be worth testing. In order to get things to bake well (assuming a lot of THAT hasn't changed with the new version) there is a lot of tweaking of numbers and moving of lights etc to get things working. LIGHTING is especially important so don't be discouraged and keep trying. Also depending on the building you most likely would NOT want to put ALL your textures on a single image -- for a house (furniture is mostly fine) because you would have enough pixel area to look good. So in that case maybe "interior walls and floor ------ exterior and trims --- roof and ceiling? It all depends on the build and the size of the building. That's just a general statement, not about this build in particular. Many many tricks to get it all working and it takes awhile to find YOUR best method.
  3. Jumo 12 Days, eXXeSS Shop and Hop, Lelutka 12 Days - all free.
  4. Yes you could bake all the textures you defined (up to 8 into one texture or 2 or whatever). I do that often. I suggest though that for THIS project you just try and get this much working and THEN worry about the baking as there is lots involved there such as lighting etc. I have a video on how to do that but OLD interface. Hopefully there is something new explaining how to do in the the current version of Blender.
  5. A dusty alt who doesn't get out much but she turned out SO pretty. Glam Affair skin and makeup, Rama hair Hud brows and eyes etc. I need to find a neck blender for her as the shading isn't perfect. Old body skin PS. Found one -- there are neck blenders in the Traditional Face pack (likely in some other Velour skin packs as well. Helped some.
  6. Also -- in case you don't know or don't understand it well there are three parts to the cost of land impact. If you use Firestorm to upload it will tell you what the actual physics cost will be once you change to a PRIM. Below is the shed after it has been ANALIZED (cube physics). You can see down towards the bottom there there is a download cost, physics cost and server cost. In this case -- and in almost ALL of my builds the download cost is the highest number. The physics cost when analyzed is 2.160 and the server cost since it is a single mesh item is .5 (the lowest it can be). So the BIGGEST NUMBER (in this case download ) is the cost of the item. Uploaded and turned to prim it is 5 li. (The snow in this screenshot was unlinked :D). In most cases that I have seen a high land impact is usually caused by the download cost. (Organic shapes can be very high in physics costs if they actually NEED physics. but most houses are pretty cube-like). You can see the viewing distance over in the bottom right side of the build menu. You can see this shed from a VERY long distance -- as it should be of course as it is outside. I always test at LOD2 which is the default for most people in Firestorm -- and most people ARE in Firestorm. But you may want to build for folks with lower powered machines. I strongly recommend that you NEVER test your builds using LOD4 settings in the viewer as that is not testing at all really LOL. Go forth. Build good things. Keep us posted.
  7. Gift eBento from by LunaMare Designs (free group). 3 li Mostly tattoo gifts From Velvet Whip again at eBENTO. Also 3 li http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Chandar/240/190/28
  8. No, BUT if you have the mesh objects in SL you can right click and "Save As". This will get you a DAE file. It will have some issues and most likely will need to be cleaned up some, but it is workable. PS. This is in Firestorm and other 3rd party viewers. Not sure if it is in the Linden viewer.
  9. Yes, seamless tileable textures are the traditional ones we used in SL on PRIMS in the beginning. And they still work on mesh but as I understand your post you are laying out the texture in Blender so that -- say the BRICKS -- would line up. This works but only somewhat as a different set of bricks might be different. So best perhaps to line up with a grid pattern OR the exact texture you are going to use. There are complex ways you can do this linking a second UV map to your main one but keeping it simple at the beginning is a GOOD thing. If you are using a texture like stucco then the problems are less. While you can only have 8 materials per mesh upload (this isn't quite the truth but we'll go with that rule to keep things simple) you CAN have more than one mesh model in a house. So say main walls, roof, floor - patio and planters area? So you can have more than 8 textures in your house. It is good to keep the tiling textures down though as each new texture is another trip out to the server. It looks like you are starting with a very simple build and that's a great way to learn. You can also BAKE your texture into UV maps (one or more) to use on your house. And you can also make just an ambient map with shadows and then add your textures to those in your graphics programs. There are several ways to texture mesh in SL. Hope that helps a bit. Ask more questions and likely others will answer too
  10. I just realized that in my trip down memory lane yesterday morning I forgot an important point (probably already mentioned but good to say again to "underline" it). Along with always applying location , rotation and scale before exporting your DAE file, it is best to always transform Origin to Geometry -- on BOTH house and physics model. Some folks also make sure that their model is at 0.0.0 which is a good practice and important for sure on other platforms -- not so much in Second Life. *************************** Also as I am waking up in the middle of the night a thought formed -- that in this season when some folks are more aware of being thankful and counting blessings it is likely appropriate to give thanks to Aquila for sticking with this forum over the years. Back when mesh was new the mesh forum was jumping. There were several very smart pros helping out the "hobby creators". Most of them have disappeared over the years. Back then when mesh was new there were plenty of issues that were NOT creator made much like when EEP first rolled out and now PBR. These days things are much more stable on the mesh forefront but still -- having someone willing to help those puzzled learners is a great thing. Insert my personal thanks Aquila wrapped up in a bow. @Aquila Kytori
  11. I got Lani in this afternoon oh so easily. She is all updated now. Hair with gift card from eXXeSs She looks a little tired like I overworked her -- not true these days. It's the shadow on the skin it seems. But she still looks good.
  12. I had this issue with my alt also. Two things you can try -- depending on your shape. First play with EYE DEPTH and turn it down from "bug eyed". Second you can move the eye with the hud. Not completely sure if this moves the EYE or the texture on the eye but worth a try.
  13. I played with Noel for a day. Pretty avatar and works really well but not "me". I DID however take the skins and makeup (plus some I bought) and did get from Lilly old UV to EvoX. This gift hair makes my face look longer but with other styles I look pretty much the same but lighter eyebrows. Looking at my blog archives i have been in group since AT LEAST 2010. Back when the store was outfits and hair and all that jazz :D.
  14. OK, yes still in the land :D. I didn't read all that explaination but expect the problem is solved (she says hopefully). My first thought on looking at the screenshot of how the mesh uploaded was that maybe you forgot to apply location- rotation and scale to BOTH the house and the house physics. As I am pretty sure I suggested in that video (which Aquila was IN BTW ) best to try something REALLY SIMPLE first try == like the example given. Physics isn't really that hard (says the gal who actually enjoys mapping). Still, the more complex it gets, the harder it gets. Uploading in SECTIONS is almost always easier and sometimes gives you better land impact. I typically always do the roof parts separately. MUCH easier to work with within Blender and simple to link inworld. Always good to have a nice clear how to in the recent forum files for other folks that get stuck. Be sure and TEST (insert Aquila's smiley face here) to make sure you can walk through ALL the doors, into corners AND rez on the floors ^^. Eventually it will be easy. Thanks for watching the video. OLD but still useful if you can overlook the interface issues :D.
  15. Keep in mind that YOUR choices may not be the choices of others visiting who have their lighting set differently :D. Just in case you didn't know that.
  16. I was thinking you might be "new". You rez the box (that is both mod and transfer) and in the contents tab you drag the gift into it -- from your inventory. When you then transfer the BOX with GIFT to your friend you will get a message saying that this item will disappear from your inventory and you click OK to send the gift.
  17. MAKE SURE (SURE) your item is also transfer. Boxes need to be mod - transfer (if not full perm) and the gift needs to be a least transfer. There are lots on the Marketplace to choose from if you just check the perms carefully. In the olden days many to most items were transfer but now that is not the norm.
  18. Sooooo -- I was talking to a friend who makes clothes among other things and mentioned the improvements made in the hopefully now official version. She mentioned the horrible agreement needed to be able to make SENRA clothing. I had forgotten ALL about that. Likely along with the hard to work with and less than exciting first roll-out, that nasty legalize stopped a lot of creators. I just started reading it and left the page. It will be interesting to see if there is any interest in the SENRA section mentioned for February's Shop and Hop. I read somewhere (think it was official but maybe someone can remember and source the idea that LL will be making more clothing and accessories themselves for SENRA. If that agreement isn't toned down (assuming people read it and actually plan to do what the signed to do) then that may be the way SENRA goes. Even so, a much better start for new folks than in the past. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
  19. Playing with NOEL head. She looks like my younger sister but not sure "I" am good with that
  20. Well she looks like my younger sister. But pretty dam young LOL.
  21. FYI a LOT of the stores in the list are MIA. Some don't even have the signs out. So it is pretty messy out there now -- a lot like a hunt with folks not paying attention. Most places you need to join their group for the gift. So heads up
  22. Me with only head changed. This can be either EvoX or old style. NOTE that on the stores in the big 12 Days list, some anyway you need to join their group to pick up the gift. Others maybe not --- haven't been many places.
  23. Well the sent the tree out in the notices. There isn't anything else there and folks are starting to leave.
  24. Good to know. I was on the new Linden PBR release. I haven't seen it that gray in a very long time LOL.
