  1. So I made a little shed with snow to go with the house. Because most folks living out in the country have CLUTTER. Lots and lots of outside clutter. So now to fill it will clutter and I am sure I have plenty. For anyone that NEEDS a little snowy shed this will be my gift from Shop and Hop. It's starting to look pretty cozy over there. Yep, now we are getting realistic.
  2. When I tried to find some "free money" places for a newbie blog post the only thing I found was some trivia AND of those places that advertised none were active. That was a few months back but doubt it has changed much. I made all my "creative" money by camping way back then but that was when bots were brand new and there were still a lot of people camping.
  3. You know it is a pretty tree with nice presents but "I" couldn't get past the ornaments floating in air and not on any branches or within the greenery.
  4. Making progress. AND a comment not so much in favor of all the portraits in the thread recently. There are already THREE main (and more) "show me your avatar" threads. Would be good to have this about our INVIRONMENT as I believe it was meant to be -- at least I took it that way. Anyway, working on some outside décor. So far I haven't purchased anything and have found some forgotten things (and remembered things) in my inventory. Also retextured one of my old interior sets. I had done this before during our decorating at Snowglobe winter but they disappeared from my inventory so ONE MORE TIME.
  5. There is a multi-brand hunt going on over at Belle Epoque. I am pretty sure I didn't put my tag on when picking things up. A little bit of everything including the above. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Wild Willows/200/128/7 Look for small white frosted "birthday" cakes. Floor, ceiling, on vendor posters.
  6. I agree that most folks seem to shop at events or Marketplace these days but it is still good to have a little shop to link to the Marketplace. I go touring for shops every now and then even though I don't need one. This is a nice place with reasonable rent and the best I have found lately. 7. Simplistically put the "best practices" rules have not really changed over time. If you have a simple décor item you can use a cube (or a hex which is now in FS menu --many thanks as I used to use my home made one and more steps there). For building or anything else that needs to have CORRECT PHYSICS == learn how to make a physics model. I use cubes and analyze and Aquila likes planes. EITHER method will give you good physics when needed. Depending on how you make your mesh objects the uploader can and often does give you a reasonable and viable LOD mode; (IF YOU TEST IT). But the uploader has never done a good job with physics. You "can" oftentimes use the highest setting and the physics will work but this method is less than great and adds land impact to your build. I have been known when feeling lazy to occasionally use the uploader for physics in Opensim where no one really cares about land impact (and the physics does work) but I have NEVER used the uploader physics it in SL LOL. ALWAYS CHECK THE INFO IN THE UPLOAD PANEL before uploadng. Thanks again for Aquila's great explanations that will hopefully keep helping folks learn.
  8. S@BBIA free group. Also some nice calf boots. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Manduca/134/225/601
  9. If you have checked everything mentioned here AND tried an alternate viewer -- then the answer is "yes" they can just disappear. I had a build rezzed on my half sim plot last May so that the folks at SL20B could see my vintage build to be put on a large plot as part of the look back. The build was OKed but when I went to pick it up the main part of the build was gone and none of the build (all by ME) was in my inventory. So I wrote and explained the issue and opted out of course. The database is extremely fickle at least with my account with its inventory laid out in subfolders according to dev advice and is only 72K after 16 years and lots of building and backups. I will say that it is VERY RARE for things to disappear after being rezzed. It is however not a foolproof solution. This is of course anecdotal evidence and just my experience.
  10. OK I changed the EEP. Not sure why so many folks want to have it dark. Imma gonna pretend I am at the Ski Valley in Taos NM USA.
  11. Yes all done. Starting to decorate but quitting for the day. I have 700 land impact so I can clutter to my heart's content. This will likely mean adding snow to some outdoor things. Want to be consistent. Feel free to explore. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Seefeld/135/175/120 I haven't set the EEP yet (amazing I can do that with a rental) so you may have to fiddle in order to SEE things LOL. I typically keep MY EEP set at MY favorite setting :D. Sorry about the marker look. I use Dark Reader and sometimes this happens when pasting (extra code comes with).
  12. LOL Me. The house isn't new but I just made the snow add on for it. It will be included in the pack SOON (like today) but wait a bit cause if I get into Shop and Hop it will be on sale there LOL. I found some great snow land from the forums the other day so I get a winter snow place without having to look SO HARD and sometimes not finding. I had a Trompe Loeil house out first and I really like it but I am NOT a "big house" person and it was just overwhelming so this is more my style. I am going to decorate it hopefully in my great-grandmother's memory -- the right era. So fun. Thanks for the comment.
  13. It is the same issue still of course. THEN you need to rez on the ground outside and drag it in to start with. it is a pain, agreed.
  14. Well I hope it works for you. I make TWO copies of a photo now if it is an edited one and not just a "snippet". Hence I don't post near as much as it is extra work and I guess I am still a little mad about it all :D. You did a lovely job with your photo!
  15. Free at S@BBIA. Various fits and alpha for "not so popular" bodies.
  16. Had to smile at the "undocumented feature" comment. Creators need to choose a PHYSICS model (if even a cube) but better yet in many cases like in houses MAKE a correct physics model. It really would be better IMO if they uploader would just refuse to upload without a physics model. And the answer has been for over a decade "rez a prim and use that to rez on. A rug usually works fine and you can make your prim the size of a room and then make it invisible via the transparent choice in the build menu. Some of our "best" creators still are making houses that won't let you rez inside. A very sad state of affairs.
  17. Great picture. Better reupload WITHOUT your signature on that. I got yelled at a year or so a go for having mine on LOL You KNEW that as we talked about it. So hand slap or no? Whatever. Nice job.
  18. Over a decade ago one of the folk on the VERY ACTIVE THEN mesh board told me that I should always apply, location= rotation=scale and transform origin to geometry (this maybe for standard things like furniture and houses). I started doing that religiously every time and it has saved me so many worries and work. Folks reading this might want to make a "sticky note" or some such thing. Worth the few seconds it takes each time. e

  20. Just wanted to say that letting folks know what you are modeling in and things like the triangle count etc would be good. If you are making high resolution models for renders --- that is a much more complex project to get them into game asset mode (which you really need in SL) than if you are already making game assets. Also if the models need to be ani-mesh (like for stand alone NPCs) that will definitely limit the number of folks that could do the work. If by "animations" you mean adding animations to furniture say -- that is a much easier process with many more folks knowing how to do things. If you are new to SL (just guessing didn't research) it is important to know that LODs are very important as well as the triangle count. Also PBR just came onto the grid (or is in the process) so if you are looking at using PBR that is something else to chat about. Hope you find the right person.
  21. Land prices (resale that is) are determined by what folks are willing to pay. Fifteen years or so ago when SL was "very hot" I sold a 512 lot for 20,000 lindens (actually two of them side by side). They had a narrow channel of sailable waterway in front. Ten year later I was paying a linden per meter (and not abandoned land). Granted not water bordered. Land prices HAVE been very low in SL at times and sometimes less than 1 Linden per meter. And that didn't always sell all that quickly. I have been renting for a long while. There are some very good deals out there if you look for them.
  22. Just noting that for ME using the PBR Linden viewer -- I did have lots of packet loss when I first rezzed in. I was taking screenshots for comparison with current (well one behind) FS viewer and had to set things up to match the photos -- EEP, pose etc. By the time I had taking my screenshot (maybe 3 minutes) I had no packet loss at all. Documented on another current PBR thread and also on my blog, today Sunday.
