Why is Flying so difficult in Second Life
Gabriele Graves replied to Impresario Beaumont's topic in Mainland
Yes there is. The Blake Sea is just one part of mainland where there are no orbs whatsoever and that area is huge with many landmarks to sail around or fly over. If you stick to this and many other large expanses of Linden public land, you will have no problems. -

So, how young does someone have to be, to be too young for SL exactly? -
That's miserable news, I hope you both stay safe, that it stays mild and it passes quickly.

It's because the language at one point didn't have a dedicated bool type and so integers were the next best thing.

Should Shop&Hop compete with Relay For Life?

Seems like I hit a nerve. Perhaps people who say awful things about others shouldn't be surprised when there is push back. -
Should Shop&Hop compete with Relay For Life?
Gabriele Graves replied to Qie Niangao's topic in General Discussion Forum
I guess it's also easy for some people to miss the point by @Chic Aeon that was being made despite it being explained more than once. It's also easy to cast aspersions against their motivations. Finally, I also guess that the easiest thing is to attack any narrative that deviates from the one that allows them to feel better about themselves as people by throwing a few pennies into a pot without questioning where that is going. -
MAC addresses can be changed. This can be a one time change or randomized as an option on all major operating systems right now. The hardware MAC address is increasing becoming much less important than it has been historically.

Should Shop&Hop compete with Relay For Life?
Gabriele Graves replied to Qie Niangao's topic in General Discussion Forum
People should really read this and then decide for themselves about ACS and RFL: https://www.theodysseyonline.com/nobody-should-support-relay-life -
No worries, it's easily done

Let them stand up: Fixing vehicle auto-return
Gabriele Graves replied to Extrude Ragu's topic in General Discussion Forum
I drove into one of those gas stations once, it said "Attendant service only". I waited for over half an hour but nobody appeared. The diner was empty as well and even the loo was locked. Worst place ever! I'm surprised they're still in business! -

On the subject of static IPs. I also had one for many years and went back to dynamic when I changed ISP a few years ago. The GeoIP information for the static IP would still have been absolutely useless to anyone trying to locate my address.
-
Yes it is.
-
This might be useful for people worried about their IP address leaking: https://www.whatismyip.com/can-someone-find-me-with-my-ip-address/
-
Well, in that case, they will leak their IP address when they move around SL and parcel media plays. The IP address by itself isn't always enough to identify the account though. If several people arrive very closely together, the software gathering IP addresses cannot tell which account is which.
-
That's what I heard as well. I don't have one myself to verify but this is what has been discussed previously.
-
Yeah, I would think it would be unlikely in the vast majority of cases to pinpoint a persons home. Mine only pinpoints my town right occasionally, sometimes it's across to the other end of the country.
-
I believe it's just the HUD that uses media and not the Legacy body itself and so people can just not wear that when going around.
-
No, it's not possible. The prank is this case is that are trying to make you believe they can.

I'm pretty sure that's a bot -
I'm finding more and more that SL specialises in a variety of Hobson's Choices. The one about legacy content holding us back is another one of those. On one hand we have the path that preserves as much content as possible going forward at the expense of being able to do many types of performance enhancements and upgrades: Residents who've literally spent many thousands of USD on content and think it's unreasonable if that content stops working as updates come in. Sure, it can be seen as nobody should expect content to last forever but what about people who've just bought a load of said content about to break? It's a perfectly reasonable expectation that it not break immediately. What will and will not break from update to update is not a predictable thing in SL currently and there is little or no messaging to purchasers to stop buying about to be broken content. On the other hand, we have the other path that people don't become as invested: Many residents could well take the view that there is no point buying stuff because it breaks all the time as updates keep coming. However, that could well mean that the spending also drops off significantly, perhaps even disastrously so. Which is the better path?

I'm comparing to the non-photo preview FS as well which doesn't have this delay. I have both installed. Firestorm support acknowledged to me that they were aware of it.
