  1. Yeah, I know enough to know that you don't clear people's ban lists unless it's a) unavoidable and b) you document it will do this and c) ask them anyway.
  2. This message is part of the LL ban system but can be turned off in their viewer which could be a suggestion for any future requests. I have never seen the point of that message. They are either on the parcel and will know they have been banned or they don't really need to care. It has no use beyond this.
  3. I don't mind re-iterating the info here though. It will help others who are curious but are unlikely to take a look.
  4. I don't consider SL to be any more upscale than any other form of entertainment. It can be expensive and those costs scale with how you want to use it but I don't consider costs, regardless of whether they are high or not, to be representative of "upscale-ness".
  5. Hi Lil, yes that is expected behaviour and covered in the notecard with the system. This is so that people you invite in don't get ejected when they just change their group tag. This seemed like the better approach. If you invite someone to your land group and no longer want them on the land after ejecting them from the group, you will have to teleport them home before the system will treat them as it does non-group members. Hopefully this inconvenience should be low and rare.
  6. Hi Persephone, it only works on a mainland region and I did this deliberately so that people don't misuse it on other estates. It does work for individually owned or group-owned mainland. In the latter case as long as you have the right group role permissions. It will not work in a LL sandbox because you aren't the owner of the parcel and they aren't group owned. Even if they were you wouldn't be in the group with the right roles most likely. For other sandboxes, you would have to talk to the owner or groups but it would be unlikely.
  7. Hi Eowyn, I'm sorry I didn't get to this sooner, I had to sleep and then go to work I completely understood the point of your posts and was just trying to cover my bases with my response. I didn't take your post in any way negative or accusative at all. I didn't label you in any way, I hope you can realise that. I know full well that you have share with a lot of the sentiments that I've do. The "thanks" I placed on Zalificent's post doesn't mean I agree with it all. I don't agree with any of the parts with regards to you. You are definitely not a person that "constantly whines" in my opinion. This is the problem with "thanks" and "like" though. On the topic of pre-emptively banning. I don't see how this is different to someone unticking "Allow anyone on my land" or whatever it is called. In effect, my system works almost exactly the same way that those banlines already work. When you use the land banline system, you are in fact banned before you even visit the region and certainly whilst on that region. It's only the visual aspect that changes with distance. During my testing, I didn't see any messages from the LL ban system on my testing alt. It is possible though that in the dim and distance past, I have turned off that notification. I will check later when I am able to go inworld. If I did, I've never seen any downsides to doing so and suggest that others do the same. It's a small price to pay in my opinion and I doubt that anything can be done about it. In the end no solution is perfect, I understand that but I'm hoping that this will still be better than no a zero-second orbs. I am open to discussion on ways that this can be improved as I really want this to be a positive thing rather than negative. Thanks for your well wishes.
  8. You are correct. It would need 44 places but obviously that's just fine too. It can use the whole banlist if necessary. UPDATE: I reworded the OP based on your feedback.
  9. Hi Eowyn, let me try to address your concerns: My system isn't any kind of anti-bot device at all. It doesn't spam anyone, it doesn't send any messages to anyone. Not even the owner of the system is informed about who it has detected and raised the banlines for. The device is limited to the parcel that it is used on only and only scans the region to pre-emptively raise the banlines for each avatar. The people who see the banlines are people who would have been banned by the zero-second orbs anyway but they wouldn't have had any way of knowing. If you are a certain distance away from the banlines, you would likely never know as previously discussed because they aren't visible. I tried to create this to be less problematic and more visible to travelers. Consider this, if there was no scripted orb ability but just banlines, there would be many more banlines around. Instead we just have a majority of silent and random zero-second orb behaviour. Surely that cannot be preferable. So it comes down to a choice, do we want to see where we are not allowed to go or not? There are pros and cons to both. It would be funny if the argument came down on the side of zero-seconds orbs though. UPDATED: The anti-bot orb system you are talking about cannot be my system. Until literally a few hours ago, my system was not available to anyone at all other than me. I forgot to address that part in my reply originally.
  10. After all the pointless arguments back and forth again and again. I decide to try and help give a free alternative to the nuclear option zero-second, TP home orb for everyone as my way of giving something back to the community in the hopes that it spreads and makes things better. I've created a topic about it here: https://community.secondlife.com/forums/topic/507956-free-graven-hearts-mainland-autoban-system-hopefully-stepping-back-from-the-nuclear-option/
  11. Hi All, There has been much talk about security systems and their associated problems, either real or perceived. One thing that comes up often is that many people find it really difficult to move around mainland with fear of being suddenly sent home by a zero-second orb if they may accidentally stray onto someone else's land. One sentiment often expressed by travelers is that they would prefer banlines because those are at least viewable and potentially avoidable. Land owners might also prefer to use banlines if it weren't for the fact that putting up banlines for everyone only affects people up to 50m above the terrain. So I decided to do something about it instead of just participating ad-nauseam in the arguments for and against the way people achieve their mainland privacy. The result is a freely available, simple to use security system just for mainland that addresses these issues. Technically an orb but it only uses banlines to implement it's security and the banlines go up all the way for everyone. It does not do teleport home. It does not send messages to anyone including any to inform the system owner of who it raised the banlines for. It will always be free, I will never attempt to monetize it in anyway. It is copy/mod/transfer except for the scripts which are copy/transfer only. This is really only to stop people claiming this as their own work. People are free to pass this along to anyone who wants a copy. This system only works on mainland, not private regions, not Bellisseria. How does it work? Firstly, it's simple. Once an avatar enters the region where your land is, they are automatically added to the land banline list. When they leave the region, they are removed from the land Banline list so that the system can cope with unlimited avatars. There only needs to be as many available places on the land banlist as the land can concurrently host avatars for it to ban everyone that comes by and the list currently supports 300 places. So no worries on that score as all mainland regions are a long way below that number for how many avatars they can hold. Due to the fact that unwanted guests have been added by name to the land banlist the banlines go will all the way up just as they are supposed to. What happens if they teleport directly to your land? The system will eject them as part of the ban that happens immediately. This is the only circumstance where they will be able to get on your land for a tiny amount of time. If you block teleport routing on your land options, even this will never happen. So the rest is up to us, all of us mainlanders to spread the word and the system to as many people as possible who are currently using the nuclear option of zero-second orbs that teleport people home which are not detectable and hope they will see the benefit of changing over. This is not a solution for those who want to keep their land open to other people in anyway. It's never going to be. It's an attempt to give an alternative to the nuclear option for those who just don't want any uninvited guests at all. This system is available, for free, on my marketplace store here: Graven Hearts Mainland AutoBan System on Marketplace I hope it makes a small step towards stepping away from the nuclear option. I will support the system with assistance and bug fixes as necessary so feel free to send me an IM or notecard inworld, which ever you prefer. My messages don't get capped and do go to email. To the moderators: I hope this is a good place to put this but feel free to move it to a better section if you feel it needs it. This is the only area that seemed to fit. It's not a commercial product and I will never charge anyone a bean for this. I just like to make things as nice as I can.
  12. I think there's been enough evidence over the years and in this topic recently that shows it gets under the skin of some people in a very unhealthy fashion. In retrospect, perhaps I should have added a "Some" to that "Anti-Orb People" part. I really meant the people who get like that and not all anti-orb people. It kinda gets laborious when you have to fully qualify everything though.
  13. Even after all these years, I really don't understand what the fuss is about. It really is over-egged. Me: I poke around exploring where ever I want on mainland. If a parcel has banlines, I go around or over. If I go on to a parcel that's orb-protected without anything obvious, I either move on quickly or if the orb gets me then I'm like "oh well, I'll just carry on from near where I was or I'll call it a day exploring." I really just don't care that the orb got me. It's not any kind of big deal. Anti-Orb People: Arrrgh! Rage, Rage, everything must be changed, these people must be stopped! Seriously people, just let it go. The reduction in stress will be worth it.
  14. You pose the question and then answer it as well. Sorry, still pointless in my opinion.
  15. What if there was suddenly no more internet? What if societal collapse happens? What if Mark Zuckerberg buys out LL? What if Rabid Monkeys take over the grid? The list is endless and pointless to worry about (sorry to the OP). Enjoy your SL, don't risk anymore than you can afford to lose here (or anywhere in fact) and don't worry about tomorrow too much.
  16. It would be awfully handy if vendors who can't be bothered with responding to people or any of the bothersome support stuff would just put a large sign on their store to that effect. That would be the honest thing to do for their customers.
  17. I've just pushed an update that provides a Windows build of MakeGLTF as well. I hope this is OK, it was due to a request and only needed one minor modification to make it once I gained access to a Windows machine as the Avalonia toolkit is cross-platform.
  18. The disablement of banlines also took with them the ability to white-list to a group only.
  19. Isn't it funny how it's always the self-righteous busy-bodies who are telling people who are minding their own business and playing by the rules that they are doing it wrong, committing heinous crimes against others, they are bad people, the worst kind of people in fact and yet they turn out to be wrong about so many things. Maybe we need a ban on busy-bodies.
  20. If you mean scripted agents. Yes, I do. They have no legitimate reason for being there as far as I'm concerned.
  21. Hardly unwarranted, having a Belli place isn't an indication you consider that you have "moved" there especially when you admit that Belli by itself would make you leave SL. So you haven't "moved" there any more than I have just because I also have a camper. I guess though, I should have phrased it more that because you still keep your mainland, it suggests that these things aren't driving you anywhere. Yes mainland has it's unique advantages which are still a draw for those who appreciate them. Exploration in Belli has been described as bland and boring due to the cookie-cutter aspect and so doesn't quite have the appeal to all. "unenforced error" Again, that's one point of view. Some people, many people in fact think of their SL land as their home and that they live there, not as any kind blog.
  22. Or it's jumping to the wrong conclusions and willfully fitting the data to suit your perspective. Just more supposition that this is what's happening and more "the sky is falling" panic. What I see is people taking a Belli home and keeping some mainland for things they cannot do there. I see people scaling back due to RL because of the rising cost of living. There are dozens of reasons why people might leave mainland, not least of which possibly just leaving SL. Here's another thought. If people really are leaving mainland en-masse for Belli then the masses has spoken and Belli is what they want and nothing less than more Belli is likely to do for them. Lamenting about how it all went so wrong is just pointless hand-wringing. I'm betting the attraction of Belli for many is the much higher chances of getting a coastal/river view for no extra cost, having the landscaping all done for them, the being with like minded people, the fact that LL and others pour a lot of effort into events and activities that appeal to them are all likely to be part of the many reasons the people that do move over choose Belli. Lack of banlines and orbs are likely to be just a part of the reasons, not the whole reason. Might not even factor into some people's reasoning. If Belli is what most people want then it's likely it's the whole package and not just one cherry-picked aspect of it. The thing is though that you point to Belli and say this is the reason mainland is dying and yet don't seem to want to move to Belli yourself given your views. Interesting.
