  1. I think part of this is that it hasn't been in FS for very long yet. LL has a unique problem in that they don't make the most popular viewer. I agree they got it mostly right except for the 2 second extra delay in opening up the inventory window now (to be fair, not sure if this is an LL or FS issue).
  2. I think that it pays to try and look beyond the language that is often used to express concerns and try to discern what the concern really is. The more people feel that their SL experience is under threat the more emotionally charged language they will often use. I've been there myself. There are always at least three sides to every argument as they say. People often advocate for changes where they are unaware of the impact it will have on the ability of others and how they enjoy SL. Of course there will be push back against this. It's mostly not as simple as let's just make the things that are unnecessarily complex, simpler. People advocating for this may not be aware that they are reducing flexibility/functionality for some as well. Identifying where complexity can be reduced without meaningful reduction in functionality or flexibility in such a system as SL is extremely difficult. Nobody is advocating for enforced complexity for the sake of it. At the end of the day, it isn't possible to give everybody what they want, there are too many mutually exclusive things in the mix to do that.
  3. Keeping/making things simpler may work well for systems that start out as far less complex than SL and there is a case to be made that SL should have started out much simpler as well. However, things may not have turned out as well as they did if SL had started out less complex and retained more simplicity going forward. Therein lies the rub, it's very likely that SL continues to enjoy the popularity it has, not in spite of it's complexity but because of it. It is often said that there is nothing else like SL and that nobody can quantify why people have enjoyed it so much compared to technically "better" systems. It's entirely possible that this complexity is in fact, a richness and flexibility that other platforms simply do not have and will never have because the seeds of that need to be present from day one. The flip-side of the coin is that flexibility also brings complexity with it. PEEVE: Why do you only see the mistakes in your post once you hit "Post"?
  4. I didn't think you were serious at first. Ahern is a old set of four welcome hub regions on old mainland collectively referred to as Ahern, though only one of them has that name, which meet at the corners. They are an infamous hangout spot and have seen a lot traffic over the years though they are much quieter now. It was infamous back in the day for griefers and people who like to talk crap a lot. The former have largely gone but there are still some of the latter. To be fair there were not that long ago a bunch of older accounts that were really pleasant and fun to chat with. https://maps.secondlife.com/?q=ahern&s=Places
  5. Those notes are stored with your account on LL's server, many think they are stored only on your computer like chat logs. My own: You can change any calling card into one for someone else by putting their UUID in the asset description field.
  6. I have no idea but I wouldn't disbelieve it. I wasn't around for First Land though I have read about it a lot. I started in 2007 but would have loved to have been here in the real early days but I doubt I owned any computer even close to being usable back then. The one I had was barely usable in 2007. In my home region 128x128 puts an agent right on a public walkway that goes for many regions in both directions and there is a lot of public land between resident owned parcel clusters which are all square clusters of 4x1024sqm. I do have a parcel which is close by to 128x128 but that's not where the scripted agents that land on my parcel appear. The parcel that they appear on is a good way further down the same walkway and set back by at least 1024sqm.
  7. There's little point in disagreeing with what people would wish for if they could have it for something highly subjective like this. There is no right or wrong, there's just preference.
  8. Nope, the default routing spot is in the middle of the region (128, 128) which is LL public land. Lots of bots do land there but clearly lots don't.
  9. You are right, I have those too. There are many pants that work great actually, quite a few from BB such as the ones mentioned (Unbothered, etc. but also quite a few others) that is why this actually works well for me.
  10. Maitreya has the same BoM addon parts but even with that I'd feel the same as it's not about what is visible, it's hard to describe, it's just a quirk I have. I have many quirks.
  11. I have many BoM leggings too but not many that don't end at the top of the thigh. I realise that this is just a "me" thing but I just don't like wearing them to cover up the crotch these days. It's weird because once that's all we had and I didn't even blink at that idea but now, it feels like I'm just wearing paint there. I do use a BoM a lot but for underwear only where it's covered by mesh in some way.
  12. The thing that amazes me about scripted agents on mainland is why people operating them aren't making sure they stick to the public areas on a region when they teleport in. I've detected hundreds of scripted agents teleporting directly to my parcels at Nautilus City since the script function was made available. There is no need as a lot of the region is LL public land due to double-prim parcels. Scripted agent owners really ought to be teleporting their bots to the public land only where it is available. It's lazy and careless to do otherwise and may be contributing to the bad will they generate. My system (no, not the one I give away) auto-bans them to get them to move them to LL public land - I don't have to help them gather data by making my land available as a landing point. Interestingly enough, many of the scripted agents don't end up coming back to the region at all once my system bans them. A lot do but also a lot don't. I know this because I log scripted agents (not non-scripted agents) that come and go in the region.
  13. I have quite a few "dresses" that I do use as tops. Usually the first thing I do if I like something is try to get mesh pants or a skirt to go underneath. It's successful in more cases than people might imagine. As a last resort I'll try BB Cake but if that doesn't go underneath, I'll usually give it a pass.
  14. Yes, I've noticed that it just took me four days, two requests (I was advised to cancel and resubmit my original request by support) to get a bulk redelivery out for an update. I don't know if this is normal because this was the first time I had used the feature but it wasn't what I was expecting. I realise this probably wasn't what you were expecting in this topic either but I guess LL giveth and they taketh away.
  15. That is what I do sometimes. I'm unashamed of it but then again, I don't mind if my yacht gets auto-returned either. There a few nearby spots to rez it again.
  16. @ Risque is the only type of clothing that isn't fuddy duddy. If you have have one type of clothing, you can only cater to the people who want it. It becomes a self fulfilling feedback-loop really because people who don't want that style will not shop there. Yay?
  17. I more shocked that anyone would want to buy BOM tanlines in SL when pretty much everyone tries to get rid of them in RL.
  18. My opinion is that rather than trying to convince the LDPW to trial anything out on any of the public regions, it might be better if a land owner steps up who actually wants to provide parking spaces/moorings and gives it a whirl first. That would seem more appropriate. I do like the idea that most of the proposal might be satisfied by scripting though.
  19. These new names don't appeal to me either. Agree that most are too long. I think one name with "-sseria" on the end is enough too.
  20. After being the recipient of threats of violence way back in the vBulletin days, I just decided I didn't need to leave myself open to the possibility of seeing any at all. What is seen cannot be unseen.
