  1. You can probably get this kind of performance if you login to Firestorm in text-only mode 🤣
  2. It could be worse. After that someone could also queer the pitch. EDIT: In case anyone doesn't know what the phrase means: https://www.theidioms.com/queer-pitch/
  3. That would be true for the source material but not what the users get for use in SL. I would argue that the use of the term 4K sets the expectation that 4K is what is being delivered for use in Second Life. It is not. It is only the source material that is 4K. What is actually being delivered in SL is 2K. You could use 8K, 16K, 32K... source material and you would still end up with a 2K skin for the Genus head in SL. So yeah, calling the head 4K capable or the skins 4K is definitely incorrect.
  4. I disagree. Equating 4K with 4096x4096 (which they clearly do) is saying that "K" in this case is defined at 1024 pixels.
  5. If you look at the graphic I previously posted from Genus, they certainly are equating 4K with 4096 pixels. It says right there in the text.
  6. I've been using Evo heads since they came out and Origins heads long before they were renamed to Origins and I have to agree with @Orwaron this, I've never seen the issue you are describing. The anims just keep going for me. It's possible you have an anim from something else that's affecting the head when it shouldn't be.
  7. It's even worse than that. I think they are just counting the pixels in one dimension in the source image. The source image is 4096x4096, one dimension is 4K depending on your definition of "K" (1000 vs 1024). PPI (pixels-per-inch) would again be another image factor but only in the files outside of SL, it has no relevance to images inside SL which are all using a the same PPI upon upload.
  8. The skins aren't 4K and the head cannot handle 4K skins. The two go hand-in-hand. Both are really 2K. SL can only support 1K textures and a head that supported a 4K UV map would need 16x1K textures. The Genus UV map only has 4x1K textures and so is actually a 2K UV map. Looking at the pictures shown earlier in this topic the differences in the skin quality don't seem to be significantly better even at 2K which is interesting. Not sure why.
  9. They've defined what they mean in the UV graphic that comes along with the Developer kit. They've defined it as 4096x4096 pixels which it clearly isn't.
  10. It's an outright lie to claim 4K resolution for these heads/skins when 4x1K textures are being used. For 4K you would need 16x1K textures under the current upload limitations available. They seem to be hoping that many will not understand that texture scaling quality and texture resolution are two different things. I truly despise it when people pull tricks like this. They could have been honest and still have been able to claim double the texture space of EvoX heads. *sighs*
  11. I've taken a look at the UV map PSD and there are 4x2K textures with the idea that each one will have its resolution reduced to 1Kx1K by SL (as SL cannot do anything higher) upon importing. The claim is that this resolution down-scaling retains higher quality than bringing in a 1K texture. Of course there is nothing stopping anyone doing this resolution down-scaling completely outside of SL and just bringing in a 1K of the same or better quality (due to superior down-scaling software). There is also nothing stopping any other heads from using this down-scaling technique either to get a "2K" texture. So bottom line the actual textures are 4x1K textures and not 4x2K textures.
  12. I was at Ahern years ago and someone came in with a graphics card crasher. Everything starting going slower, slower and slower until the viewer just died. I had no idea what was happening until I was able to get back over there after they'd dealt with the culprit.
  13. My response wasn't about any of that but just about you saying that it was done so that LL can discern between users. Generally though, it doesn't matter that there are precedents, things have been removed by LL before because they realised that they were not a good idea. Exposing user's financial status to others publicly could easily be another of these if LL felt inclined due to pressure from residents. The fact that over the years more details about people's financial status with the lab have been exposed rather than protecting that information shows an unsettling direction that I for one would rather we turn back from.
  14. Nobody asked you to man-splain anything and insulting me and/or anyone else here will get your post reported. Have a nice day yourself!
  15. No I don't and as a user I don't care. The LL viewer is the only piece of internet connected software that I have ever used that needs closing and restarting when a connection fails. As a user, that's crappy.
  16. There is a difference between collecting that data and showing that data to everyone. LL don't need to put anything on anyone's profile to know any details of their account. They will have other web-based tools to look at account information that non-LL staff don't have access to.
  17. It's a testament to how crappy the LL viewer is. Imagine if every time a web browser failed to connect you had to restart the browser.
  18. It would be helpful to know how many of these had been logged in at some point in the past with SpeedLight and/or bot software that might have corrupted the results. There is definitely something for LL to investigate here or it all becomes pointless. All of the "scripted agents" I've logged on my land have been in and out in a few seconds which tells me that I'm probably not seeing any false positives. EDIT: I've been logging for about a month and have seen 210 scripted agents so far according to my logs.
  19. Sculpties got a lot better when the viewers stopped rezzing them as large spheres until they had fully resolved.
  20. Always on for me. Turning it off doesn't give me any benefits in performance.
