When I recently had my laptop in the shop, the owner mentioned that a large portion of his business is repairing hinges on laptops. He made the same comment as the OP. Use 2 hands, one holding the base in the center and the other opening the top from the center. Just like most anything made, things are pretty much designed to fail. Why is it that there are still refrigerators from the 60s working while we've had to buy 2 in less than 20 years?

I was going to suggest, that one way to "play less seriously" is to create an avatar intentionally "bland" or "unattractive" (by some standards). That way, some people may see you as either "fun" or "trolling" (it's on them, not you), and your focus won't be on something "serious" like making your avatar look a certain way. Instead, you may find yourself focusing on exploring, doing other things, and you'll learn a lot about people from how they treat you. -
LOL - yeah - what's wrong with that? Seriously though... it entirely depends what aspects of SL you enjoy most. For me, it's mostly about the visuals. A big, high-pixel screen and long draw distance, all graphics sliders ramped up to the max, is what I'm after in SL. My ยฃ1500 HP mini, the latest available, can't run SL worth a dime for what I want.

Unfortunately a lot of people in sl have bought into the idea that having a nice avi somehow makes them amazing and they get quite snooty about who they talk to. Don't take it personally. It's hilarious when you think about what's probably behind the avatar. -

Well then, if you are correct, "selling it off" means it should still "exist" after the sale, right? That's good news! -

Based on what I've learned of the owners, they are going to want to sell I think. But there is little value in a dry cow and I think they will attempt to sell the platform sooner rather than later, before it becomes an udder failure. -

Buy better hair. Most flexi stuff is garbage and only looks good in photos from one angle. -

At least I have 3 now! The tall one just needed to be tall enough to peek over my keyboard stand with the second tier. Otherwise the shorter ones would have probably been fine. My theory on all the equipment is, get 2 or 3 of everything, so I can setup in multiple rooms (or so a friend / another musician can some sing / record too).

I was lucky first time with my music stand, quite solid, and easy to adjust the height. I got it from a specialist DJ store.

Works surprisingly well, as long as you understand that it points as if it were in the center of your HUD, which may or may not be the effect wanted. Not what was asked for, but with that demo, it feels better to me if it points based on the avatar's position&rotation,

A little odd to have so much visibility and transparency (lulz, what there is of it) recently, but NOT share something as basic as, "hey we had some management changes". I suppose, being still a "privately held company", it's literally "Nunya". -
It's a shame if LL put all that recent effort into Search (which apparently people weren't happy with from the many, many posts about it), if people still struggle just to create listings!
-
Well, there's always a chance something is going to break when you are making a listing. It's kind of like having a wall outlet that only shocks you sometimes you plug or unplug something. It doesn't shock you every single time but it's broken all the time because it can shock you. When making listings I always back up my description in a text editor because I don't know if saving the listing is actually going to work or if it's going to throw an error and delete everything I typed in.
-
"Marketplace Broken All The Time" is literally the thread title. I see now, the OP is talking about creating listings. Not search and/or buying things.

That sounds like Second Life. SL in some ways reminds me of my old car I use for certain weekly trips. It is old with high mileage and rusting out but I keep up very basic maintenance, licensing and insurance to keep it on the road but do nothing that will extend its life otherwise. Basically driving it till it drops. It makes me money but not enough to make it worth any real investment in it. -
It's not that it doesn't work all the time, it's that it randomly stops working when trying to do something and throws a 5xx or 404 error. Specially if you are making listings.
