A lot of the advertising posts on Primfeed appear to be reposted by other people (alts?) without any additional comments. Looks like 'bumping' to keep adverts at the top of the page, if you ask me! The Primfeed TOS says you're not allowed to re-post an image you've already posted. Not a problem if you use alts to re-post. 😁

No, it's because of giveaways being offered there that require one to repost the original ad to be eligible to win.

And the entire application is now flooded with reposts of giveaways. The experience is so bad that I rather watch ads on youtube. ¬¬

Yes. I think they need to restrict that practice in the future. It's eating up way too much of my feed.

Everyone is expecting way too much for a site that just released. You can tell this person is new to all of this. I've seen some of the complaints.

• Everything that is going on is what happens in Second Life, This is what the site is suppose to intend to do.

• ads/blogging/photography/adultness are apart of second life (many love to shop)

• There are many who are photographers, what did you expect for second life? Many people don't leave their sim because everyone's gungho on telling people what to do and how to do. Or they just love taking photos

• You're going to see sexual content if you make your profile  GMA or GMAA+ you can put it to GM or G rating.

So, PrimFeed has launched today, to much ballyhoo and excitement!

Have you tried it? Are you interested in trying it, if you haven't?

What are your impressions or experiences of it? What are it's pros and cons?

I heard rumors about it and seen mentions. Had no excitement for it, though.
Have I tried it: No
Am I interested in trying it if I haven't?: No, but I could change my mind.
What are my impressions or experiences of it?: It can't properly position its name in mozilla. The forced login page is bare of traditional information like who runs the thing. Legal information etc. I heard it had to do with some store/creator. While it is expected someone would give it a go since my pages got the more quiet seat a long while - I don't feel to risk a fad service that presents itself this way.

A friend that posted on it and is taking the option to observe and hope it sticks around tried to send me a link to their post or feed. As you can guess I didn't see anything except the expected login screen of a pigs bag. So all I can feel or assume about it is that it's just another web service trying to come between me and my SL information and activities.

No point defending it. Trial by fire, I say. Quickest way to learn is getting feedback and improving, brutal or not.

It depends a lot on how busy the picture is and how easily it can be compressed. My shots are generally taken at 3840x2160 (with some lost pixels due to the way I take pictures).

Absolutely. The most recent pic I've posted here is monochromatic, with probably less than half of the canvas space actually taken up by the image itself; the rest of the canvas appears "empty" (although really, of course, it isn't). In its original dimensions of 5000px by 3750px it is almost 32 MB in size. All appearances to the contrary, it's a very "busy" image, and I had to downsize it substantially to post here.

This then puts things into perspective for Primfeed. It can't hotlink, from my experience. At least every single person that I have seen post a primfeed link, it asked me to immediately sign up to view. This is an absolute killer for me and I reckon others too, isn't that the entire point of social media to spam that ***** everywhere?

Could be a user error on my part but that defeats the purpose for me. The low resolution is a bummer and I honestly think it would be wise to raise that to 1920 at least, so that the most common desktop resolution can be uploaded without a hassle. This should pacify most casual users that just want to do snapshots.

I would then fall under the purview of a pro user with my resolution needs. I'm under no illusion that my works are so immaculate that they need all that resolution but remember my desire to archive things? Sometimes I go back to an image years later and do more edits. Which is a wee bit silly at <1500. That brings me to the subscription, in which case - I am sorry but at that price range, I would probably pay for Flickr instead. At least for my purposes, Primfeed doesn't offer anything new on the table.

Yep, I agree with all of this.

Interestingly, while you can't hotlink to the post, one may be able to link to the images themselves using the URL for the pic itself. That is, assuming that everyone can see the image I've posted below?

Flickr used to be a much better photography site before LL/SL insisted on using it for their own commercial marketing purposes, so hopefully they see some benefit from all of this now that users have somewhere else to drift to.

I logged in with an alt and it feels like I jumped into a vat full of people. Tried reposting a few giveaways but there’s too many now. I’ll try to follow people and see if it’s useful.

Oh I know they are new to this, I can also tell they probably did everything by themselves or with very little help from others as I already pointed out couple of misses and problems with the overall design and functionality couple of pages ago. Though seeing how excited everyone is to immediately jump ship kinda raises expectations more than they should be for something that was just release for end user use.

Kudos to them, may it continue to do well.

I joined yesterday and I was sensing latency with when someone faved a picture to when you got a notice.  So not surprised.

The important part isn't that everyone logs in, it's that they continue to login over 2 months,  6 months, a 12 months etc.  It's a success now,  they need to keep that momentum by fixing and updating features.  And I think their team will need to grow (isn't it just one person?).

That being said, the major push by the stores does help in that success. Giveaways work in influencers within youtube, why should it not work here?

No, this is due to both the website UX design for sharing and replies.  Imagine people with giveaways.  One could in theory have alts in flickr as well mind you, you just need an email. I'm sure someone has created emails for each alt as well. It's the nature of ALL social media where you can be anonymous.  Including SL where you can have alts.

They aren't breaking TOS, it's them reblogging and commenting their names in some instances for giveways.

Joined it...it's...meh...it's socmed. It's meh. Way too many pornstar wannabe's tho. Thank god for maturity settings. Not a prude just...ick.

That's flickr as well though.  If you look into any avatar group in flickr, you'll see a sea of lingerie passing off as clothes.

I've since realised that they're probably sharing 'giveaway' posts because they need to do that to be eligible for the giveaway or contest prizes!

I will say: Kudos to them.  That being said,  they need to increase their team size after their successful launch.  They need quick development and succession of features for people to continue to use it.  Including both UX redesigns and Security features.  Thus far it looks promising.

I made an account out of curiosity, naturally! I noticed there's no option to include a YouTube link in my profile (aside from using the 'website' slot), and uploading videos in posts isn't possible. It's not a huge deal, but I might submit a feature request for it.

I've only been on it for a day, and so far, it's mostly promos and giveaways, which is a bit disappointing. Hopefully, once the celebrations are over, the content will improve and I'll see some amazing photos.

Oh, and I would love to be able to filter the content, with hashtags or something.

I just found out about this inworld so came to check if there was a thread here.. Of course there was!  I'm interested in this... I don't do social media in real life... and if I did I wouldn't want my real associated with SL anyway. Yeah sis .. wanna see Chery topless again?? Nope.. I don't think so.

I have been bummed so many times not to be able to be part of the store give-aways and contests though so I think I'll give it a go. I'm mostly just concerned about security risks, so I came here to see what others think. I might give it a month or so to address any glaring problems though.
