What will 'finer-grained controls for content maturity' look like?

Very cute! Just because I agree with Zal once in awhile, does not make me cowardly. Quite the opposite!

I see that your response of attacking someone else who happens to disagree with you, no - that isn't cowardly at all!

I'm downright proud of you for sticking your neck out.

Well done!  Brave, brave lad!

Mmmm.. is there such a thing as a lion with a "passive aggressive" roar?

Maybe when one meets a really big Wildebeest that's just too big to take down, but you know - he still has is dignity after all. :)

Since someone hurt your feelings, I'll just do you the favor of leaving you alone. That way it CAN'T have been me.

Good luck recovering.

When someone offers a rebuttal to something you said, it isn't because their feelings were hurt but because by instigating the exchange, you've given them permission to respond in a like manner. That's how I see it.

Now that person's gone, where were we?

It wasn't about randomly insulting one another, I think.

"Controls" somehow morphed into a "generational war", complete with insults! That was weird.

I think the generational aspect is irrelevant, because anyone can "be someone else" in Second Life.

Perhaps, but they started insulting me merely because I agreed with Zalificent. 🙂

Do you REALLY want to talk about this? You go right on ahead, if so.

And Zal was insulting him so by agreeing with Zal, you were doing the same.

Well yeah, that's the RP aspect of it.  Watching 2 avatars with no words?  You don't need SL for that.  I've heard there's p*orn all over the internet!  🫢

Sadly, not in Texas :(

Won't that screw up the SL economy, by taking income away from individual SL "providers"?

Aw, that's cute you think the AFK avatars are making money.

I've met males in SL that get off on just the animating avatars and don't need any text to help it along. Others do like it if it helps with the roleplay.

They are getting off to porn in their other screen. They just say that cause they are too lazy to emote anything other than .....ohhh baby, yes!, don't stop! I'm gonna ***.

I hope the "fine-grained" controls include an option to "turn down the whining".

This region is not suitable for whining, I love it!

Just have to have an anti-whine bot patrolling the region, issuing out fees for non compliance.

Me: "Damned corner region crossing!"

Bot: "You have been fined one linden for violation of verbal morality standards, have a nice day"

/me wanders off to booth psychiatrist

Booth: What is your boggle?

Me: Ah-ha!  I see what you are trying to do!

Oh so this is the hot new topic! Let me practice *clears throat* "How dare you!"

I kind of thought that statement the OP talked about just meant things are going to progress. Personally I hope they clean up G rated areas a little more. Like adults should go to general regions with undies on and stuff.

I might have just said that to seem on topic...

A post on the Canny Feedback site by Birdie Linden recently revealed that there's a plan to create what they described as "finer-grained controls for content maturity":

This brings up a lot of questions about what these finer-grained controls might look like and what they'd be applied to. Do you think we'll see region ratings change from simply G, M, A to something new?

I would like to see 'A' and maybe also 'M' split between sexual and violence.

A-rated erotic themes should not be in the same rating as graphic violence. Those are two different ratings and if someone wants to mix them then they should have to declare picking both. But by default they shouldn't be the same, and 'Mainland' A should be rated for the sexual-A but not allow the violent.

M, if it had the same split, would probably fall somewhat similar. It's in 'M' where we see a major split in 'Western' countries between the USA and everyone else. In the USA violence is liked but sexual themes are not, and most of the rest of the western world has the opposite opinion. So a split 'M' would probably be something to make a lot of places more 'non-USA friendly' by having 'action genre violence' not be included by default into 'older age appropriate themes like romance and taxes'. But this time I'd probably say Mainland ought to be flagged for both as knocking one of them out would be too dramatic a change.

I think it would be even easier to do this with Marketplace. Flag your content on a spectrum of action (M) <---> violence (A) or levels or romance (M) <---> erotica (A). And not presume that if it's erotic it involves decapitated heads and vore like we do now.

Another thing I'd like is to be able to flag our profiles with a rating or maybe even have 2 profiles depending on the rating of the search.

In my 'that won't happen' we'd have a third split on this for 'political ranting allowance levels' where you'd have to be 'A-rated politics' to be putting out ranting political signs and things meant to trigger folks... but the drama of even figuring out what goes where on this one would be too much to be able to even make a policy.

Sure, if I wasn't single I'd still be doing it.

I think that it's a little hard to explain but:

Category the First - Some people never get much and are happy; while some are not happy and wish they get more.  SL may help them with that "lack".

Category the Second - Some people got plenty and are happy; while some are not happy and still wish they get more anyway. SL may help them with that "want more".

Category the Third - Some people got MORE than enough (compared to most healthy people) to be generally satisfied; while some are not satisfied anyway and still wish they get more and more and more. SL may help them with that "insatiable hunger".

..and on and on through Category the Nth.

I just happen to fall into Category the Third.

I don't truly knock those who fall into other categories, however I have trouble empathizing with those who seem "dependent" on SLex to the degree we read in these Forums, that they "freak out" over changes (the "Sky is falling", "LL will take away my fun", etc.).  I understand addiction, I truly do. I am also not accusing everyone made at losing their "fun" of being "addicted".  Possibly.."entitled".

Why do people care how much sex or SLex other people are having?

I'm glad that SL has sex. I'm glad it has other activities too. I'm glad we can all do whatever we like, as long as we're not breaking laws or hurting someone.

That depends, are you a disk capacitor, or an electrolytic capacitor? The electrolytics can leak, and even pop!

Expand

Why do people care how much sex or SLex other people are having?

People just weren't raised to mind their own business.  Instead, they were raised to judge others.

Finer-grained controls for maturity levels, based on an announcement.

I posted a summary of the ideas I heard so far, but then someone got butthurt during the derail and I stopped playing 🙂

The grain of sandpaper they are going to use to fix maturity problems in SL, because we're too immature.  We need sanding with a finer grain.

We are going from coarse to medium, I think, but I don't know specifically which CAMI or FEPA rating the new sandpaper has.

No one under the age of 40 is lining up to get nasty in SL, for the simple reason that no one under the age of 40 wants to do the nasty with someone twenty years their senior

If they use sandpaper to correct SL sex issues, would that be an A-sex or A-violence rating? Maybe an A-kink rating?
