I'm often called upon to help friends with avatar things, because they all know I'm a big nerd and if I don't know something, at least I know how to find it out. This is an actual thing to help an actual friend, and not me pretending it's for someone else. It's just... a bit of a sensitive thing, and I don't know how to name/describe it, or post a link for it without it getting censored, so I'm just going to call it an "attachment".

One of those lower body attachments, of which I know practically nothing. So, yeah. I need the help of the forum ladies who actually know what they're doing in this area. No pun intended.

Long story short, mesh attachment for a lady, comes in rigged versions but also unrigged, classic avatar seeking to use it, and when they add the unrigged attachment, their lower body completely disappears.

I've already suggested checking viewer settings, turning shine off and seeing if it suddenly appears, etc., as well as trying things in the HUD to see if that sorts anything, but we were in a public place so all I could do was offer suggestions for her to try later. I don't know if it will help. I also recommended switching skins a couple of times, to see if things suddenly appear. I won't know until later if any of these ideas has worked, so I'm still asking here in case anyone knows anything else, or has specifically dealt with this issue with this item.

It's sold by Jarmade, in their MP shop, which is probably clue enough for anyone who owns the actual attachment (YES, fine, it's a vajayjay), so if anyone has had the vanishing legs issue with it and was able to fix it, advice on how to help with this would be absolutely awesome. It's probably something silly in either BoM-related settings, or general GFX settings, or similar. I've never had a BoM attachment vanish an entire section of my body, so I really don't know how to solve this one, short of spending 2000L$ myself and trying to duplicate the problem.

For all I know, it's just blanking things out because it's BoM and brand-new and hasn't had a skin applied. But yeah. Open to help and advice.

I am sure you will get some help with this, but apart from experiencing a talking "growler" when I first rented an apartment on Noob Island in 2008 and Raquel in the apartment below had one, I know nothing at all about these feminine little extras.

It is Bakes on Mesh capable.

 What that 'really means' is:   One or more of the object faces in the item linkset 'Grab' the lower body channel baked texture.

Result:  System Avatar Lower body 'paint job' is 'gone to there' / invisible / nothing from waist down on system avatar mesh is shown. 

Potential fix (but not advised unless are SURE is possible):  If object face(s) mod,  retexture to not grab the bake channel.

Yeah, we got some of the best people here, as far as experts go, they actually help people with what they know~!

I'm not very experienced with lady bits myself, so I'm trying to figure it out from general knowledge, but I'm glad we have knowledgable people here who aren't embarrassed to give guidance for others' sakes.

I'm also glad I'm not embarrassed to ask! The help is appreciated, so yeah. And if it gets sorted I'll let people know what fixed it in case anyone else has the same issues.

I haven't had any issues with any BoM stuff at all myself, at least since figuring out how it works. If it's a classic avi issue, well, I can always help her figure out a decent mesh body that'll work with her wardrobe. I know it probably seems like a silly thing to a lot of people, but if it makes my friend happy, I want her to have it, and have it work right.

There's always Project Ruth, too. That's practically an optimized classic avi in mesh.

I hear a lot of people talking about the Lucybody, not sure if it's the best not-Maitreya but people certainly speak highly of it. Cannot say if it is truly compatible with lady bits designed for Maitreya either!

But yeah you worked out the issue, these modern hi technology vajayjay's use a little BOM to seamlessly blend into your skin. Quite neat! but needs a compatible body.

LucyBody made a Body version called Valentine I think it was, that was supposed to be compatible with one of the popular V's that was originally made for Lara, but it's really not.. I got the body for free in a promotion last summer and tested it out with the V they said it would be compatible with..

You ended up having to find where the bom button used to be on the V hud.. The button texture was removed from the hud, but I guess the button was still there.. Once you found ithe button, you had to click the button to turn Bom off.. Since the V is rigged, you had to match the skin tone from the texture hud, which left things very jagged looking and unmatched..

The Valentine body is pretty much the Atenea body, but with the crotch reworked to try and fit the V they were trying to fit.. I could never get it  to match up to where it blended in well enough for me.. But I can be really picky also with getting any attachments just right, where some may be able to overlook things..

The Atenea body, I don't believe has any that will work for it that are rigged.. Maybe  in the unrigged ones they might be able to find something...

Ah that's a shame. I guess for certain things and to make SL life a little bit easier (relatively speaking) there's maybe no true alternative to dropping the money on the established brand bodies.

On the topic of the V though, I had a hell of a time with it even on a Maitreya body with a visible triangular shaped region until I learned that it comes with some sort of shine layer enabled by default... finding the "Maitreya shine HUD" or something was what was necessary to disable it all and get a perfect fit (do people really use body shine!?). I also find that it needs to be detatched and re-attached every log in to get a seamless fit without a jagged edge.

They use it WAY too much, IMO.  I saw one woman the other day who looked as if she were dipped in oil.   I often wonder if they even have ALM turned on to see how shiny they really look.

I know this much about when putting them on.. it's best to be lower to the ground than 4,000 meters up, because mesh can do some strange things way up there at times.. Also never be on a pose stand when adding one of those attachments, because it can really go goofy...

Also the shine layer you can turn off in the shine hud or you can use the shine  hud for the whole body.. it's when you try and use the maitreya shine that it will leave the blank triangle.. because the maitreya hud is using the maitreya material layer, where the V is using the V material layer which will work for the whole maitreya or reborn or whatever, body..

Yeah, I use shine a lot for some avatars. My frog, for example. Not really for human ones unless they're near water.

Shine's used a ton in advertising, though. Look at any ad, in fact. In some cases it works. In most, it doesn't. Does not surprise me that attachments come with materials auto-enabled.

Ya with shine, less is more really.. Especially for the darker tones.. It's hard to find the right amount sometimes..

Crazy.

I also bought a new Lelutka head recently that came with a really strong normal map applied to the forehead, it was very odd with deep really unnatural looking forehead creases... I thought maybe there was something up with my fancy new skin until I found the setting enabled by default in the Lel hud and turned all that stuff off.

I get wanting to add details but... some of this stuff is way too intense to be on by default.

Have we gone a bit off topic or did I misunderstand what the OP was asking for help with? I cannot get the image of Raquel H's talking minge out of my mind for some reason. (I don't remember it being shiny.)

I don't actually have an answer for you OP, lol, but I will test some of the more popular brands since I have a mesh body that uses bom, it might result in the same issue your friend has. I have 4 of the demos I just got off mp. 

I don't think any of the parts will work with my body anyway since none are really made for it, but maybe I can recreate the issue your friend is having (if it's a bom issue, and it sounds like it might be).  I'll let you know if I do! 

 

Just editing this one to update. I tested deluxe, v, sensations and vaw-just demos of course, all on the mp. 

None of the 4 (I tried the maitreya version of all 4, since it's the closest to atenea) I tried would recreate the same issue. 3 of the, I guess the more known brands, do not work with atenea. That was expected behavior, but it may be able to be remedied with a custom alpha where needed. I didn't bother checking function, just fit. You can't use the alpha hud in the body because it doesn't quite work for all the areas needed, but a custom alpha may work. I have another brand (vaw, maitreya)on right now that, surprisingly fits, both bom and rigged versions. Again I haven't checked function, lol, but fit wise, it's not terrible, I don't think. I may be very out of practice here, though, lmao. It needs colored, obviously, but it's not sticking out, or stuck inside where it doesn't go, either.  That one may be the best of the 4 I saw on mp. I didn't look very hard for options, and am likely very out of practice in this virtual arena since clearly xcite is no longer where it's at, lmao. 

So, your friend may have options if they choose to go with one of the free mesh bodies out there. I suggest demos, your friend may have better luck with one of the others I did not. It wasn't really an extensive test on my part. But the issue doesn't reproduce with a free mesh body, so it may be an option for them with enough working.

That's why you always demo mesh bodies and "attachments" in 3000m skyboxes ... A L W A Y S  !

Once you do you will suddenly consider some popular brands an anathema.

LL is an American company. The American culture is a bit more prudish than we are used to in NL and surrounding countries.
It is the same with porn.... the USA produces plenty, but an accidental (?) nipple during a football match.... ZOMG While we chuckled about it in Western Europe, the US world was to small for weeks over Nipple Gate. TV stations started to go live with seconds delay to be able to sensor.
LL has to consider the conservative American feelings in that field I guess.
