Account - No Payment Info Used

Hi, my apologies if this question has already been asked and answered.  I tried to search for the topic but nothing came up.

My question is this, when looking at another person's Profile is it possible for them to buy Lindens (to upgrade their Avi, for example) and still have it show as "No Payment Info on File"?

Assume that an account that is NPIOF and has a fully kitted out avatar is an alt of an account that does buy lindens.

Thanks Blaise, exactly what I was thinking.  My reason for asking was to help me weed out the people who have Alts, or at least give me a pretty good indication of the possibility.

I mean, alts aren't always for malicious purposes. Some people keep alts because they want a radically different aesthetic presentation or to go to different kinds of social events than they would with their main. Or just for purposes of roleplay. Randomly weeding out alts doesn't really keep you safer from weirdos or whatever.

Yes, I understand completely where you are coming from, and agree.  But it gives me a good indication of their honesty when I pose the question to them if they admit it or not :).

But both our assumptions are still not really answering the question.  Is it possible to buy Lindens and still show NPIOF?

It's not possible to buy Linden Dollars on an account and show No Payment Info on File, no. You can add a card or a Paypal account, and it will still show NPIOF until you purchase Linden Dollars. But after you buy $L 1 - or whatever the minimum is - you lose that status.

I'm not sure what happens if they remove the payment info after buying it, though there are other options for getting money. They can earn it directly or might have friends/family that give them money (when I started out, a friend gave me enough to sort my avatar). Someone saying they don't have alts does not automatically mean they're lying.

I could be wrong, but if all one's alts share the same e-mail address, then I believe "Payment info used" appears.

I used to have alts, but now I don't.

I used to have a lot of alts to get clothes to fit lots of bodies.  Perfectly rational reason, and not pulling any fast ones on anyone.

"payment info used" status sticks forever, after you've bought something with L on MP for example, no matter how you got your hands on those L. I've tried that with a new alt who never had payment method added.

A smart person who wanted their alt to slide right by any a NPIOF ban unnoticed would just add their payment method and buy a minimal amount of L$.  Nobody would have any idea of whether they were an alt or a main account.

Generally people who want to play alt games are not detectable unless/until they give themselves away somehow.

It's also possible for someone to have a regular supply of L$ without ever having purchased them, by working at an in-world job, or selling goods/services, or even by regularly playing Linden Realms, enering paid contests, etc.

As others allready stated: People have or haven't PIOF for several perfectly good reasons.

PIOF is not a status symbol, nor a security device.

if you weed people with only this knowledge, what's a pretty overeacting handling, you'll have a lot of mistakes in your choices.
For example, me myself and i (and many others), have payment info on all my alts i ever used  .. 
And you'll delete a huge amount of possible friends, that live from inworld work.

Alts are nearly never for malicious purposes. The fact in this approach tells more about the one writing it than about the non payment accounts.

People also come in because of friends or partners in RL and those people might give them the Ls to upgrade their avatar or gift them those items.

This thread lists many, many valid reasons for having more than one account, none of which are malicious.

To complicate things even further, many people with alts (including myself) put payment info on them too. Two of mine are even Premium.  I know of people who have dozens of Linden Homes - that means dozens of alts, all Premium and therefore all with PIOF.

There are many people who simply can't put payment info on file because they live in a country where their available payment methods are not accepted by Tilia. Not everyone has access to Paypal and/or Visa credit cards.

I don't worry too much about NPIOF, but as one aspect of a profile and avi appearance, and age of avi, it sets a caution in my head. I recently encountered such an avi. Beautifully assembled, not long in world, NPIOF, limited profile info. Claims to have worked to get Lindens in world, and not be an alt. OK. Might be possible, but I'm not convinced.

I could not care less if I'm talking with an alt or the original.
It is all about the person who is the puppeteer.
IMHO A nice person on their alt gives a better experience as an ***hole on their main account in world.

If I were more interested in socializing in SL I would do that with an alt.
Sid needs time and space for himself to do his thing inworld.

Yeah right Alwin.  Tell that to the numerous females I have heard from in-game that were in Relationships and found their partners cheating on them with Alts.  

Linden Labs has turned SL into a glorified porn site with their promotion of the highly sexual culture.  And the amount of men who flock here because of it use those Alts for one purpose only, and that is to deceive others.
