They can happen and usually that's why you do rigorous testing before pushing something to production. This ain't on the level of a mistake anymore. How does an update that semi bricks endpoint computers in a bluescreen of death (from what I've read) make it to production in a company of THAT size and with that clientele. Hospitals, Airports, Banks, so so many companies and supply chains have had a huge chunk of their IT wiped out over night. Sure, you can recover the machines by deleting the offending file from system32 (the suggested hotfix as of now) but since the machines ain't coming online because of the loop, chances are some poor underpaid IT person is going to have to do it locally. For thousands and thousands of computers per company. Bonus points: Work from home machines. Yikes. This might have societal repercussions. I'm surprised that Second Life seems to have weathered it without a hitch so far. Everyone else, if you have a loved one working in IT? Give them a hug. They're marching into hell right now. There's talk that the update appears to be complete garbage data, the file itself being full of basically nothing. It was apparently compiled on the 9th, presumably went through some period of testing and then somewhere in between this garbage file became what was actually distributed to all clients... all at once... on a Friday. There's an automated fix that has been noted on /r/sysadmin if you can PXE boot any of the machines and have the bitlocker keys if necessary, unlikely many will have that luxury though. edit: https://old.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/1e708o0/fix_the_crowdstrike_boot_loopbsod_automatically/ Edited July 19 by AmeliaJ08
Scylla Rhiadra
I just came up with the idea for an absolutely FILTHY erotic shot (which will involve not actual genitals on display). And to research it I had to do possibly the silliest and most embarrassing Google search ever. SO embarrassing that I used incognito mode. NO ONE MUST EVER KNOW! 1

The query wasn't even really pornographic -- although it DID trigger the browsers filter blur thingy, nothing on the page of results actually required blurring. Anyway, we wouldn't want any of the brave sailors of our merchant marine to come to harm, now, would we?
PheebyKatz
No peeve with being the personal care attendant of a streaming gamer per se, but: Peeve: Never knowing if my roomate is legitimately crying out for help from the other room, or simply emoting, and having to get up 50 times a day to find out.

If you're talking about doing a SL remake of that old image macro captioned, "typical Mac user", I hate to let you down, but that wasn't really poop all over him, it was peanut butter. Pretty sure the rubber objects were real, though. Edited July 20 by PheebyKatz

Bonus: Since it was the last day of my work trip before I travel home today, instead of working until 5pm-6pm, I was able to leave early. The location I am at was mercifully not affected.

Though you and I would call the things shown on the page you linked "bubbles" in general and "air bubbles in water" in particular, the world doesn't see things our way. Google "water bubbles" and "air bubbles'. You'll get mostly images of air bubbles in water. That's what we're most familiar with. As a child, I learned (approximately): A blob of liquid or gas rising through another liquid is a "bubble". No more straws for you! A blob of liquid falling through a gas or another liquid is a "drop". Put the hose down. A blob of liquid resting on a surface is a "drop". Wipe it up. A blob of liquid hanging from or running down a solid, is a "drip". Wipe it up, now! A blob of gas trapped in a solid is a "bubble". You'll have to sand that out and recoat. A blob of liquid or solid trapped in a solid might be a "bubble" or a "drop". Put it down and stop asking questions. A blob of gas or liquid surrounded by a durable membrane is a "balloon". Happy Birthday / Don't you dare! A blob of gas, surrounded by a fragile membrane is a "bubble". Bigger is better. A collection of interlocked bubbles is a "foam". Stop playing and finish your bath. The popcorn is ready. If you want to see actual "water bubbles", grab a bottle or can of carbon tetrachloride or brake cleaner (the tetra/perchloroethylene kind) and pour/spritz some into a glass jar. Add water and shake. You'll see lots of little water bubbles floating through the cleaner, which will sink to the bottom. Caveat experimenter.
