Watching both Cabaret and Poor Things last night while eating entirely too many meatballs with peanut sauce. Hideous dreams! 🙈 why do I do this to myself?

Haven't seen Poor Things yet (probably need to), but Cabaret is very nearly the only musical I really like. (I exaggerate for effect.)

I am still not sure about the decision to make Sally Bowles American, though. I get the appeal of Liza Minnelli, but it really changes her character a great deal.

Anyway, Isherwood's Goodbye to Berlin and Mr. Norris Changes Trains are occasional sort of "treat" reads for me, and are among the books I'll pick up when I feel I need to reward myself for something with a fun (not really, but you know) read.

I like musical theatre and seeing different casts! I watched the 1993 Mendes production last night because I can’t seem to find a full video version feat. Dame Judi as Sally Bowles, just an isolated video of her singing ‘Don’t Tell Mama’. I have seen the Liza version movie and though I liked the staging a lot, I really prefer Alan Cumming as MOC and that production’s ending. I think the only American Sally I could have ever gotten behind was Eartha Kitt. I’ve watched snips from the 2 most recent stagings but meh, didn’t pull me in.

Oh! That would be interesting!

I do like Joel Grey as the MOC, though. He's beautifully ambiguous.

As for Judi Dench -- well, I'd go to see her in pretty much anything. I'll have to look around now for that production!

Peeve:

Looking through some art pages via Google, and I came across a photograph on Twitter of Picasso, Dali, Warhol, and Basquiat having a drink together at a pub. And my first thought was, wow! Cool!

15 seconds later, my second thought was . . . hang on. There's no way Basquiat was old enough to have gone out drinking with Picasso while the latter was still alive.

Sure enough, looking through the comments, the poster was getting called out for it, and finally admitted in a subsequent comment that, yeah, he'd neglected to mention that the photo was AI.

I am growing to hate AI so much. Or, more accurately I suppose, how it is being deployed by people.

I swear how can these AI claim to make art when they can barely even count? (And God knows they have more than enough fingers to count on!)

That sounds like some kind of awkward retelling of Midnight in Paris. 😂 Man, that movie was so fun. I don't think Warhol appeared in it, though.

Love the concept, but yeah. Basquiat would've been like...10? Likely younger, lol.

Oh, that takes me back.  I rather bullied my art teacher and fellow student into seeing Judi's 'Cabaret' on a trip to London for the art galleries.  The alternative was some film, but I thought that could be seen any time, whereas we'd never see the live performance again.  And she was marvellous.

I watched Poor Things recently. It's a very weird movie, but I liked it & didn't get nightmares. If you like sci-fi, fantasy, arty films, steampunk, and don't mild alot of sex, body horror and graphic operation-type scenes, then I recommend it. If you don't like sex or violence in movies, don't watch it. It's basically a Frankenstein-type story with strong feminist themes.

A somewhat similar Netflix series in that it's very weird, female-oriented, and full of body horror and cats is Brand New Cherry Flavor. 🍒 🐈  Again, not a series for everyone, but good if you like unusual stories.

I suspect you'd like Poor Things (Hulu) and Hamilton (Disney Channel).

Lol, peeve: Jezebel posting obvious clickbait on Twitter that made me want to click anyway despite knowing better. 😂

Additional peeve: The sudden realization that I'm going to have to see this movie.

Oh lucky duck - that’s wonderful and I’m a little jelly! That’s a once in a lifetime experience 🕰️. I’m still looking for more footage but may have to settle for an audio recording meanwhile.

Peeve: I got kicked by one of our spring colts yesterday, right in the head.. I'm just glad I was far enough away that it wasn't like taking a full stroke, but more of a punch. Enough to knock me unconscious though.

I can't even hardly talk from the right side of my face being swollen. Those little cuties hit so hard.. hehehe

It won't be the first time and probably not the last of the kicks to come. I should have known better though and  not put myself where I shouldn't have been.

Ever get that feeling you shouldn't be somewhere and the moment your experiences decides to show up and you realize it, the reason you shouldn't be there, shows up?

That's about how it went.. hehehe

I live where there's a communal garden.  There had been a lovely little view of bushes in flower, amongst which blackbirds perch in safety every year, and are dear little companions.  The contractor 'gardeners' have been to maintain the garden, by which they mean hack it down to the point of death, and have left me with no view but an almost bare wall and a petrol station.  It's not a huge loss in the great scheme of things, and I am grateful to have a roof over my head, but I feel my world's become a bit emptier.

We have a man that lives across the street at the house we have in town..

He had the most beautiful trees in his front yard with so much shade from the branches.. Some of the fullest tree's in the area..

He had tree trimmers come in and cut all the branches, to where each branch looked like stumps after that and it looked really creepy..

I thought he was losing his mind to do that..

But now it's like two years later and all those branches grew back and the trees are  fuller than ever again..

It was like, branches grew out of the branch stumps that they cut, but also more branches around them grew as well..

I hope something like that happens  with your trees and bushes as well.

Ya, but when he did it, it was much more than just pruning.. The trees looked like they were from a scary movie.. All the branches were cut  to branch stumps and no branch unturned.. This was more like stripping everything off and starting with only a trunk with stump extensions.. hehehe

Pet Peeve:  As we left the house for this mornings early (4:15am) walk, I heard a "click" - Cinnamon's leash hadn't fully connected - and she took off down the street! Turbo was going on the walk too, so had to put him back before deciding how to get Cinnamon (chase, car, etc.).

It's been a few years since Cinnamon "got loose", luckily she soon circled back to the house a couple times, then I caught her.

That technique is called "pollarding". I saw lots of pollarded trees on family road trips though the US south many years ago. Taken down to the ground, pollarding becomes "coppicing". Anyone trying to eradicate buckthorn from their land knows that coppicing makes things worse.

@Garnet Psaltery, hang in there, Next year you might be treated to lovely dense regrowth and a new grind of happy little blackbirds. Every few years, I whack my honeysuckle bushes to the ground. They come back the next year to give me a hearty "f*ck you". I let 'em get away with it, but unwanted buckthorn gets both a whack and a painting of undiluted triclopyr on the cut ends.

Counter perspective: Imposter Syndrome. I personally don't have got a good read on my abilities and will constantly undervalue them, despite what some claim to be evidence to the contrary. I got called out for this, when I asked for lighting advice in a photography group - there was no ill intent on my part but it didn't go over well.

Also yay, the Sky does no longer seem to be PBR-falling!
