Hi. I wanted to discuss heated topic. Lately many designers have been doing maitreya exlusive sizes only. Do you think they should go for the one that sells the most, since 80% of female mesh body users prefer Maitreya. Or they should also continue to rig for Slink, Belleza and other bodies?

p.s just realized i posted in the wrong forum category :D

Designers are going to do whatever they have the time and inclination to do.  We can 'should' them all we like, but honestly ... they are free to decide what is best for their brand.   I am of the mind that if someone feels there is content lacking, and they would like to have it....then they should jump in and create it.  That is the way of SL  It is not really very fair to shoulder that responsibility on a select few.

Every time this topic comes up I am reminded of the prim skirts of old. Creators would build them on their own shapes so if your shape was vastly different you would have to pull out or push in *many* individual skirt pieces to adjust it if it was mod. If not or if one simply got tired of having to adjust every skirt they would move on to another creator whose items worked for them.

I understand some creators, even with kits, have trouble rigging to different bodies. Creating should be as fun for them as wearing the stuff is for us. I'm not going to make someone do something they don't want to do and I've seen many things I would *love* to have but are Belleza or Slink only. I admire the creation then move on to find something similar I can wear.

Some say Hourglass is the hardest body to rig for , but then others claim they have great trouble with Maitreya. Shrugs And Yes the official dev kits aren't 100% accurate so theres alot of guessing and testing involved still. I guess its easier for big brands since they have a whole team working for them so they can do all possible sizes every release. Smaller creators are doing Maitreya only and i don't really blame them.

But the main problem here is - many people have started to bash creators that they wont rig for specific bodies anymore. I see that alot on facebook and flickr. Needless to say these people wouldn't even know how to create a mesh apple in blender lol. I am strongly against creator bashing.

I've noticed that trend too, along with all kinds of rumors about different kits being handed out if at all, and it is sad. I'm glad you elaborated on that. *hugs*

I would like to see a range of sizes ideally, i do have a Maitreya body as it was the one that worked best for me when i was demoing bodies but the problem i see with only doing Maitreya is paring two separates for the same body from different brands they don't always play nicely together i splashed out on something i really should have demoed first today that is bum skimming and beyond on the back paired with jeans that were also Maitreya fit there was so much poking through the only solution was to dig out the classic Av XS size. If designers and identikit re-sellers only want to sell for one body i don't have a problem with it as long as it fits

That's an understatement. At least some of the big brands actually hire rigging specialists because their (quite professional) 3d modellers are struggling too get that right and even those specialists may well need a few days of work to get the rigging right for a single body.

I just wanted to add along with the creators should do what they D*** well feel like LOL, that after just finishing the Womens Stuff hunt which was all (or nearly all as I saw one that looked like original mesh) it seems like a lot of the full perm creators actually have kits now --- or some anyway as things for Maitreya definitely fit for Maitreya and things for eBody for the most part fit for eBody (those are the only two bodies I have to test with).

SO we ARE making progress in that fake naming for a body thing. Thank goodness.

I suspect that how many brands folks rig for has something to do with how much the designers enjoy rigging (yes, some actually DO!). There is so much out there I can't see any reason to complain. And if you buy a really off brand body, then you have appliers AND it was your choice to do so.

Then again there is always that nudist colony RP thing LOL.

Even the copybotters have the weights by now, which of course eliminates the most plausible reason why access to the kit was restricted. I think that was the only reson actually. I can't say I know Onyx LeShelle but I have talked to her once or twice and she doesn't seem to be the kind of person who really wanted to honest content creators.

Is it possible to make distrinctively different mesh bodies using the same weights btw? I suppose the answer is no but I'm not sure.

Honestly it’s not that big of a deal to me. I own all of the big three bodies as well as a couple off brand ones. This isn’t a brag there’s a point coming: some bodies have very little in the way of clothing besides what the creator or a hand full of designers come out with. Some creators only do Maitreya only or Maitreya/Belleza or Maitreya/Hourglass and if you don’t wear one or the other you’re SOL. Typically if I see a creator has made something that is only for a body I’m not wearing I just keep right on walking, they’re doing ok without my money. It’s easier and faster to get out of whatever laggy shopping event I’m at because there are slightly fewer choices.

a couple weeks ago, I saw a dress that was Maitreya only that I just had to have. So I switched to my Maitreya body and bought the dress. A week later they came out with something else I had to have. So I switched back to Maitreya and bought the outfit. So at this point, I’m thinking maybe I’m missing out by not wearing Maitreya. I go to the creators store and take a look around.... they didn’t have a thing I wanted or couldn’t get somewhere else for my Freya.

So I said all that to say it’s not sour grapes to say, chances are you aren’t really missing out with the “exclusives” as far as quality or being able to get the same thing somewhere else.

The bigger issue, I think is some of these events coordinators are telling creators that they HAVE to at least have a Maitreya version of the item to be in the event. I think that is the bigger issue here. There is definitely a pressure to do items for Maitreya that isn’t there for anything else.

I have never had an event coordinator tell me or ask me to make anything specific, only that I follow the theme.  Of course, I have not participated in every single event on the grid, and I don't create clothing items,  so I cannot really say if that is true or not.  I do very much doubt it though.  Event coordinators just want good quality items and for creators to be ready on time.  Once a creator has been accepted for the event and have paid for their space.... what they create for the event, is up to them.

I am aware of a flickr post by a creator that was having difficulty rigging something for Maitreya that was going to be in one of those subscription boxes. This box apparently required a Maitreya size so the creator had to opt out of that particular month.*

*I have summed it up much more polite and professional than the creator did

ahhh ok, since subscription boxes are pretty specific.... I think that is a different sort of issue.  I honestly don't know how wide spread that is, though.  I think for the most part, Creators are chosen for what they make, and they are allowed to make what they want, as long as it falls in with the theme... if there is one. There may be acceptions to that, I really couldn't say though if that is true or not.

Yes it is possible. Some softwares' weight copy tools do actually work 100% accurate between meshes of different topology, using the right settings

Does that mean if somebody came up with and published a standardized weight scheme and it became reasonably common, new and smaller mesh body creators could use that and be sure there would be some mesh clothing that fir their bodies? Or is it more complicated than that? I notice that at least some of the brands with multiple mesh bodies on the market use different eights for them and I assume they have a reason.

Some mesh bodies (both male and female and smaller brands) seem to have weighted close to either another brand OR the standard sizing legacy bodies so that quite a few standard sizing and sometimes other brands will work for them IF you have an "average" shaped body. It really would be great to have standarized clothing and I bet the folks making the clothes would like that too :D.

Oh yes. Not sure if the owners of the big mesh body brands would like it though. ;)

But they may actually. They seem to be quite happy about the simialr standard Omega system for appleir clothes.
