  1. I have no special stories about SL. But the fact that I'm still around in SL after almost 17 years tells a lot. Second Life is a great place for me to spend (a lot of) time (and L$), even if it is not perfect and there have been some bumpy rides at times. All in all It's a wonderful world with enough diversity, unexpected things, great places and nice people to make it worth to stay and live a second life.
  2. After reading almost 3 pages of this thread, I only have one question left? Why are we still here?
  3. My ante: I hate everything about Second Life. Try to raise that.
  4. I'm in a marginalized group, being an asexual. And yes, when I'm at a party and the sex jokes time starts, I feel totally uncomfortable about that deep down inside. But one just has to grow some skin. So I laugh or I don't, but I don't complain ever at parties or wherever the joke comes from. And what for one looks silly, can be severe for others. Who is to judge? You and Eddy found it clearly offensive others didn't, looking at the responses the picture post got. And it is not only about people in marginal groups. People in majority groups can be offended too. Mileages vary, even from person to person. If one starts to think about it, comedy is impossible all together. It is always at the expense of someone or something, so there always might be people offended or hurt. We have to accept that principle or abandon comedy all together. The joke teller can never look inside the heads of people who hear, see or read the joke. So I will not crack a joke to stay on topic. Last post for me in this thread for now. I don't want to keep a discussion going in a grandfathered non SL thread here on the forums of Second Life.
  5. I understood already where the pain came from. But there is always someone who can feel pain with any given joke. Dad jokes: all dad's who are not totally stupid and all people who wanted to be a dad but for some reason could not. Blond jokes: see above. Knock-knock jokes: People with hearing loss might not hear the knocking, people who lost their hands in an accident ...... Political jokes: Obvious if it is about the party or ideology one prefers, one can feel offended. Adult jokes: Do you know how offended asexuals might be over these, or conservative religious people? ........ Whatever joke you will post, I could point out who you might have offended. Not that I'm going there, but I could, I'm sure about that.
  6. Well, your picture is not funny for air\marine force pilots. See: There is always something to complain about a joke (every joke) if one starts to split hairs. We should simply not go there, or this thread is doomed. Heck, Comedy is doomed... 99.9% is always somehow at the expense of someone or a group.
  7. Maybe because some people read more in to it, than the joke tells? I give it 5 more years and then every possible joke needs at least 5 disclaimers.
  8. I hop between homes a few years already, sometimes several times a week, sometimes even a few times a day. On average I'm never longer than two weeks on the same spot. I'm totally not interested in location, that helps of course. I owned several beautiful locations over the years for a short time. But I live elsewhere, so I released them when I no longer needed them. Most of the time I switch theme, that helps too I guess. Only when I want a house boat on a square parcel, that can take a few quick changes. Sometimes even more than the allowed number a day. If I want to stay in the house boat theme, I always require a new one within a minute or so after abandoning the old one. That way the old boat is not on the market yet. At least that always worked that way so far for me.
  9. For my business I switched a hundred times or more between themes and houses. In all themes I had houses over time that I would never have given up if I wanted to live there. Except the Newbrooke type. They only seem to be situated in average and boring places, sim after sim. I never had the same location so far, not even once. Isn't this subject a bit of "I want it all, I want it now" too?
  10. Business is always slow after the holidays in January, so I had to take on another job as well to stay afloat in SL.
  11. My family doctor says that the salt water based nose spays are less harmful and aggressive than all the others. That guy studied medicine. I believe him. If you decide to use something else, kudos for you. More\all roads lead to Rome.
  12. Peeve: The big pharmaceutical industries always want to sell their expensive treatments. They try to push doctors too, to prescribe their stuff. Of course they have achieved wonderful things over the years, but they also push their treatments until goes no more. Sometimes even when studies prove that they don't work that great at all.
  13. I went to Scylla's new exhibition today. As usual great photography and a bit of a confrontation at the same time seeing some photo's. There is no taxi link in this post, given that the Moles seem to be on patrol against that at the moment. But one really misses out if one skips a visit. The link can be found in Scylla's signature here on the forums.
  14. Who needs a vacation if this happens every day at ones home. Even if it is 'only' in SL.
  15. "Please drive 4 times around the block and then park your vehicle and come back to the office, if you by then still think driving around in SL is a fun thing to do".
  16. The thing I picked up from this thread so far: People don't come to your store because they enjoy the way it is build, but it can be a reason to avoid it. So the best thing to do seems to build a middle of the road store with a 13 in a dozen layout, with logically placed merchandise. Since I have vague plans to open an inworld shop again in the future, I'll keep that in mind if it ever comes to that again. It could save me a lot of work then.
  17. I personally would not do it, but hey, our wonderful world SL is also the world of make believe and drama, so I can see people try to pull this off.
  18. one of the main reasons I bought stuff, is because I didn't want to walk around naked.
  19. I have a side table in SL now, that reflects like no table ever did in RL. Can't wait to purchase more. Yeah, happy days ahead.
  20. That's another one a shop keeper can't win, I guess. There are people who insist on light colors or no sales, there are the ones who insist on dark colors or they go elsewhere with their business, there are the ones who refuse to shop when it isn't all pink. All personal preferences can never be met at the same time.
  21. One can also just enjoy the views, if interested. After all people shelled out a lot of Lindens for those bodies and skins.
