  1. Sansar had the big disadvantage that SL was still alive and kicking, when it was released. And it had not the right usability in every field, that are main selling points for SL. And on top of that the makers of Sansar forgot all about the KISS method for their potential users. My posts where about the future for a new platform after SL would somehow have to close their gates (like when Amazon.....).
  2. Second life is heading towards "A Barbie World In Bellisseria" for years already. Everyone can see that it is the real grow market in SL at the moment. The inworld building tools are no longer really relevant for the success of SL for many residents. Why do you think LL has burned tons of money to get us a mirror? Mirror, mirror on the wall ........ A new SL-like world would leave a lot of oldbies behind, including me for sure as well, but that would not mean a certain disastrous failure for a newly starting world. When I retired as a teacher in RL, the education system in NL didn't collapse either. Who would have thought?
  3. I think there is a market. Many things could and should be done totally different IMHO, but there is a market. Of course it will have to grow again. Linden World didn't have the tons of users SL has today within a few weeks either. But just dream a few minutes about how different you personally would make a new world, what would be different? What would be the same? It is very easy to get enthusiastic about that, at least I do and no doubt far more creative minds in the industry would do so too then. They all know the amazingly successful run of SL despite all the complaining we and others do about all kind of everything that is wrong (?) with SL. If I were in the gaming industry I'd give an arm and a leg for a game that stays that long profitable and affloat. Two decades ago online gaming was still in the prehistoric stages (look at our sim crossing flaw). There are millions out there that once tried SL but did not really found what they expected and called it a day again. Snd even more who never heard of SL ever. So there is potential enough for a SL successor IMHO, but not likely as long as SL can keep their gates open to the public.
  4. Lets face it, we all know the unique LL Implementation Practice™. But.... the JIRA system is still up and running, so...... better still bark up against that tree for now.
  5. SL's existence in a way hampers the development of new virtual world software IMHO, indeed because of all the user generated content, but when it has to close it's gates for whatever reason, that argument is no longer valid. New developers could start from scratch in that case, do things differently, use the latest techniques, leave out the SL flaws (and create new ones, no doubt about that too). Most SL creators can jump on the next train, they have the knowledge and creativity to make stuff and their own data base of textures and models on their HD's and clouds.
  6. I have done a few attempts in the past, but following most roads is just boring. And as I wrote, I regularly end up in mainland because visiting something like a shop, museum or event. So I have seen enough of mainland to have an opinion. I've seen the totally overpriced chunks of land in nicer parts of mainland, I inspected them already, to have a good chuckle or two out of those prices. Again, there are people who love mainland, kudos for them, but I'm not one of them. There are others who don't like Belli or private land. And there are even those who don't like any of the three kinds. They leave by the droves after signing up and looking around a bit. Disqualifying other people because they have a different opinion, I don't know..... Mileages do vary a lot everywhere, RL and SL in my book.
  7. Mainland is simply not everybodies thing. I only visit mainland when I teleport to a store, museum or event. I never explore. That has nothing to do with banlines or not, but most of mainland is desert, low hanging platforms, crappy buildings... all in all, much kudos who likes to live there, but it I'm not one of them. I like some covenant protection where I live. Plus living in the Netherlands in RL, I would have to fork up 21% VAT above the normal tier rates, so I'm a private land person. There is no VAT charge then. There seem to be more people like me in SL when it comes to land holding.
  8. Last time I checked it was not privately owned, so my guess is that Belli is Linden Owned land.
  9. If an alt holds the better location, it is also possible to downgrade the other account and keep using the alt's place, no?
  10. There are more than a few places I would love to see on your side of the pond as well. But long distance traveling has become really expensive over the years. So chances are very slim that those places will ever get from my bucket list. (Well I have tickets for tonight's Euro Jackpot Lottery, so 🤞 ....) All the three places I mentioned are only a 6-10 hour drive from where I live and I book a simple airbnb apartment there. That is affordable for me. It is a shame we don't have teleport facilities in RL.
  11. If one has to fork up an aditional 21% VAT (when from my country) the story becomes different I guess, then a sim lease from ACS or other baron becomes a serious option.
  12. Relaxing in SL can be a good substitute for a RL vacation IMHO. I haven't been on a RL vacation for three years now. But I'm thinking of going to the Black Forest, Alsace in France or Switzerland this summer, because SL is never totally the same as RL (the weather conditions are far more predictable though).
  13. When one moves it with their own car it is called a caravan. This is named a camper in NL. A large one sometimes motor home. RV is not used as a name over here. I had to look that one up.
  14. I had enough of my house underneath my platform, so I took it down. Now I live here, until I will find a nice one to replace the old house on my forest parcel.
  15. Possibly there is a log in hick up at the moment for you locally, maybe you made an error while typing your password. Best thing is to try and log in again in a few minutes. And there is the LL historical standard snake oil solution for everything: Clear cashe. But I guess, that is only possible after you are able to log in again.
  16. I'll enjoy my freedom to do whatever comes to my mind, just like almost all the other 365 days a year. (It is fun being a pensionado)
  17. Come and get it. The eyesore stands right in my sight when I'm on my balcony. No charge as far as I'm concerned. Bring a crane. It is made by a now established artist BTW. This early work is not in his online catalogue though. So I guess he doesn't seem to find it a real masterpiece from him either. I must say he made far better than this eh.. thing I have to look at on a daily basis. The title of the work is "Rain Catcher." Which it does.
  18. When I worked in a small hamlet at a really tiny school for a few years, there lived a painter on the other side of the street who made mainly huge paintings, with human figures straight out of kindergarten. His works can be seen in a few museums, corporate buildings and at well established galleries. It made him enough income to have a very nice house for him and his family, with a huge workspace and a lovely garden. His main daily occupation was strolling through the neighborhood, work in his garden, talk with everybody who passed by. He invited me over once to his house and workspace, to show me his art. In the living room there where paintings from him showing his wife and two sons. The guy could really paint very realistic. I guess your professor was right, it takes skills to make stuff looking like it is made in kindergarten.
  19. There is not much going on on these forums since I've put every single one of you on my ban list.
  20. If it is art, it even can look like crap after it is finished. One can always come up with a deeper reason why it simply has to look that way. A fine example from where I live in RL: Someone got payed for that.
