  1. I don't know of anything like this, but I can see a very big problem with prim laces all the way up the sides of a pair of pants - movement. Unless your avatar has her legs straight all the time - never bends them, not even when walking - the prims would look very strange in any pose/animation that doesn't keep her legs totally straight. Prims don't move with the avatar. Unless there were multiple prims attached at multiple points, I don't see how this would work well. Sounds a little more complicated than it's worth. Are you sure what you saw wasn't just a very well-textured pair, perhaps with prims ties or something, rather than the entire lace section being prim?
  2. I would use Nyll's suggestion as a last resort. Considering you really need to be able to pay that tier, if you can't get the card updated by Tuesday you may have to resort to this. However, in the meantime, she could try calling the billing support as mentioned by another person in this thread. Every time she gets that response - change browser, file a ticket - she can calmly explain - once - that she's done both of those things. If she recieves the same response again, she can and should ask if a supervisor is available, and if she can speak with that supervisor. Continue the process as necessary until she reaches someone who says they are the supervisor, or that the supervisor is not available, etc. Demand to speak to someone higher up. Repeat until she reaches someone who is willing and able to correct the problem. Sometimes you have to make yourself a giant pain in the rear to get any helpful response. My bet is she'll only have to go through a couple people before she gets something helpful. If they hang up, call back. Get angry, and let them know it. ETA: I should specify - get angry, and let them know it, but do so politely. No need to get nasty with anyone, since, as someone else stated, they're likely to get nasty right back. I work in customer service, and I know I'm much less inclined to go out of my way to help someone who gives me attitude!
  3. Though I'm not sure you'll come back to this thread, as it doesn't appear you went back to the first, I'll make this suggestion anyway: There are a number of skin thread opened fairly recently, various people asking more general questions. They've received a bunch of responses filled with different places to go for wonderful skins. Perhaps you could go visit those threads, compile a list of those suggestions, and visit those stores. From there you can collect demos, then find somewhere to try them all on and compare, against each other and against your Curio skin.
  4. Did you try actually filing a ticket? I've noticed LL tends to get right on billing issues, if they can. At least, if the issue is about GIVING them money, rather than wanting it back or wanting to stop giving them money. You could also try messing with the computer itself. I've noticed that often when I have internet problems, I have to 1) install updates (usually but not always ones that have been bugging me for days, that I've been postponing because I don't want to restart my computer), or 2) turn off the computer for a few seconds/minutes or even an hour or two, then turn it back on. Sometimes just a restart helps with this, but more often than not, I actually have to turn off the computer and leave it that way for a few seconds, go fix a snack or get a cup of coffee or something, then come back and turn it back on. That often fixes whatever's borked itself with my internet connection or my computer. Sometimes it just needs a catnap, I guess ETA: If you can't fix this fast enough, maybe you (or someone else in the group, if it's not just the two of you, or several people) could float the tier until she gets it worked out. If you're able. That way you won't have the land snatched away.
  5. I use prim over painted lashes, myself, and actually like the look. Tattoo layer lashes is an interested idea, though...but I wear so many tattoo layers already! (Hairbase for non-LAQ skins, cleavage layer, lipstick, freckles...)
  6. I second the advice to let your landlord know - firmly. Explain the whole situation, as far as the extreme lag goes. Since he/she probably doesn't want to lose renters, and letting the horses stay will lose more people in the long run than kicking out or talking to the one (hopefully) person who has them, he/she will probably be more than willing to address the issue. For now, find somewhere nice and quiet, and try again. Once you have it fixed (if going somewhere quieter works), try heading back home and seeing what happens. I think the ongoing maintenance this week may be contributing to this as well, as I have more lag myself right now; but I don't think it's the only factor. Those breedables certainly seem to have something to do with it, as they're recent as far as you know, and known lag monsters besides.
  7. I have no idea, not being a builder, but wanted to say, I hope you get this to work! What a lovely skirt
  8. I love those! Have a pair myself, in fact. These are my current favorite boots, though. They work great for fall, they're gorgeous, they're mesh, and they fit! So far my only mesh footwear.
  9. Truth has a room of short hair. I don't have the SLURL on me right now, as I'm not inworld, but they're both inworld and on the marketplace, so you can find them fairly easily. Truth Hawks is the creator. I have a couple of hers, and I'm not really a short hair person. They're just so cute! Other than that, since I don't really wear much short hair, I can't really be of much help.
  10. Same thing, really. Of course, I use the hybrid Firestorm; not sure what setting you're on. For me, it was ctrl+alt+Q, develop menu pops up, click that, look towards the bottom (not all the way down, though), and uncheck HTTP Textures. This might be different for other Firestorm settings.
  11. I don't consider myself common, but I have found a tattoo lately that I wear quite often, simply because I like it and it fits my personality. I like text tattoos, and found a cute Alice in Wonderland one that suits me. For the moment. It's possible I'll get tired of it and stop wearing it, but for now, I like it. I haven't seen the same one on anyone else yet. As for going to a club and counting how many people have versus don't have tattoos...Try that in RL. You'll find plenty that have tattoos, either hidden or visible, there as well. I still don't think they're common. A lot of it, in my opinion, is what you get and where. Hip, above the pelvis, on the lower back - common. Sleeves - kind of common, not as much so. Back tattoos are more common, depending what you get. Forearm not as common, but moreso now than they used to be, I think. Text tattoos aren't terribly common, though name tattoos - which are a kind of text tattoo - have gotten fairly so. Butterflies, flowers, stars - common. Naked women - common for men Dragons - pretty common. Alice in Wonderland - not really. I think my tattoo makes me interesting, not boring. It's all personal opinion and taste, really. I like to think that someone who saw my (current) tattoo might find it interesting, might ask me about it, that it might intrigue them into wanting to learn more about me.
  12. Really just a nice, recent picture of my avi, which I can probably take myself, though it won't be the best quality. I suppose I'm just intimidated by the gorgeous badges I've seen. I feel like nothing I could manage will measure up!
  13. To cover the boobs, I know of several. A personal favorite is Mylie, from TRUTH. Love parts...Is harder. You're probably going to need something that's only slightly flexi, if at all, since otherwise it would move too much. I have one from [kik] called Susanna, that has a super-long option. It doesn't cover the lower parts, but you can probably shift some prims enough to make it. It was from the hair fair, though, so I don't know if they have it in their main store. They probably do, but you'd have to look. When I typed "super long" into the marketplace search, then went to "Avatar Accessories>Hair>Women's Flexi Hair" I got 45 pages worth of results. Not all apply, but some do. Most that I saw on the first few pages don't cover the lower parts by default, but again, you may be able to shift some prims to suit your purposes.
  14. I've seen the threads about creating your own forum badge, but I'm simply no good with photo editing software. I have gimp, but I'm afraid all I can do is resize photos, and short of a detailed, personal tutorial, I don't think I'll get anywhere with it. But I'm tired of the default picture being my only "badge." I see such lovely ones, I'd really like to have one too. So, is there anyone out there who would be willing/able to create a forum badge for me? Please PM me here, or IM me inworld (Ariel Vuissent) with details, costs, etc. If someone's willing to walk me through creating my own using gimp, including the photo editing how-to stuff, I'm quite open to that as well - but I imagine that takes considerably more time and effort.
  15. YES! Thank you! This worked fabulously (after some SL flubbery that screwed up two outfits...clearing cache is the bane of my existence lately). I'm actually staying baked! I can see my clothes and they're not all fuzzy! (I've been fuzzy for months now - this is super exciting. I spend tons of $L - I want to actually be able to see my own clothes and skin! The only reason I rebake now is when I change or add a layer.) So thanks to you, and to Tristizia, for posting this. I'm thrilled to be able to see my avi without having to rebake every 2 minutes. I've been watching this thread, but was afraid, after the first few posts, that there was simply nothing to be done about it. Thanks for the effective solution!
  16. Personally, I occasionally (not always) use tattoos in SL because I can't in RL - absolute phobia about needles. I don't even get the flu shot because it's not worth the panic attack. I think in SL they can look nice (of course, they can also look horrid), and help to make the avatar unique. I don't think Wildcat, for instance, would look at all the same without her tattoos. They're kind of a signature for some people. Of course, when you grab a freebie tattoo or visit some of the most common SL tattoo shops, chances are you'll get the same tattoo as someone else. I don't recommend relying solely on tattoos to make an avi unique, but I think they can help, for some. The more stereotypical you go, the more like others you look - butterfly tattoos are all well and good, but goodness, everybody has them! Same with flowers, stars, etc. But if that's your style, go for it. Custom helps because if you go that route, you're assured no one else has exactly the same tattoo that you have. But it's not required; there are plenty of good ones out there already.
  17. Firestorm has different skins built into their viewer - go to Avatar>Preferences>Skins and choose one. Experiment. Keep in mind, though that each skin requires a restart to show on the viewer, so it may take several tries for you to find one you like. ETA: Never mind, see you tried that... As for the jagged edges in the default viewer...I'm trying to remember exactly how I fixed this. Someone else told me how, and I can't remember, but if I do, I'll post it here. (I had the same problem in Firestorm beta with mesh, which leads me to believe it has to do with the mesh code, but there's a setting you change to fix it.) ETA: Here's a link to the thread I created about the jagged edges issue - http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Viewer/Jagged-pixelated-edges/m-p/1091713 The fix mentioned there is very effective.
  18. I have yet to have random people come to my home and use my furniture (that I know of) or try to hit on me. The only random person I've seen was tp'd in yesterday by a newbie I was helping who didn't know she was in my private home. I did have some random guy come up to me in a sandbox one day, though, nude and complete with freenis, using a hip-thrusting animation. He kept walking up to me and standing there using his little animation...Even when I walked away (which I tried several times) he just followed and kept doing it. Finally I told him to please leave me alone, and he tp'd away. I find a lot of guys in freebie clothes with a freenis, no AO, default eyes, etc. who want sex with anything with boobs. I need to get more firm with my "no" 's, though, since I tend to take pity on them eventually. Not everyone can afford to spend $L on their avi...But you can do better than that! lol
  19. ATTUI has some nice ones. I like them, though I'm not sure exactly how much they have that doesn't go over the chest. You could also check some of the tattoo places mentioned and if you don't see something you like, or see something you do like that has something on the chest (like sleeves with chest detail, which happens a lot), you can IM the creator and see if they'll do custom. Some may be able to remove whatever's on the chest, if you like the rest of it, and some may be able to create something entirely custom for you. Be prepared to pay extra, though, for any custom work.
  20. What everyone else has said, pretty much. Price...doesn't really sway my view much. I might say "Wow, that's good quality for the price," but I still don't consider it to be good quality, necessarily. Just better than many others in the same price range. I want to wear clothing that is detailed even if it's simple. There's a HUGE difference between a pair of black pants that's just painted on, solid black, and a pair of black pants that's nicely textured black, with possibly a little pocket or zipper detail. That being said, I might find something to be of very high quality, but questionable taste. Some things are too gawdy for me, or the colors clash, or there's a giant bow or ruffle that just doesn't appeal to me. But I can still recognize the quality of a piece, even if I don't like it.
  21. They might ban an account, but I don't know that they can ban your entire computer. (Or would, since for all they know you have several people in your house using the same computer, all playing SL on it.) Can you log on using another account? If so, it's an account problem. Have you tried relogging in another area, intead of the last place you were? What happens when you try to log on? It's also possible you're "ghosting" - you're offline, but SL has you still logged in. You can also try uninstalling your viewer completely, then reinstalling it; or install another viewer. SL glitches sometimes. If the problem continues, you can submit a ticket to LL and see if they can help you.
  22. I tried Pink Fuel, but the look is too young for me, and a little off with my shape. I'm also an LAQ girl at heart, and my newest from them (most recent buy, I don't know when it was created) is Tess2. Younger looking than the other I have (can't remember the name right now...Pheobe? Pheobe2? Maybe.) and with more freckles, which I've enhanced with freckle tattoos. But Nowhere near as young as Pink Fuel, which is cute, but not to my taste.
  23. This is extremely common. Unfortunately, the marketplace isn't really all that stable, and orders often fall through. If you purchase items one at a time, this is less likely; if you purchase multiple items at one time by using the shopping cart, it's more likely that you won't recieve your items. Send the merchant(s) a notecard explaining the issue, with a record of the transaction history. (You can find your transaction history by going to the marketplace, "My Marketplace" at the top of the marketplace screen, then click "my account" in the menu that comes up under that, then "order history" on the left-hand side of the screen.) Simply copy and paste the pertinent details for each merchant into a notecard, name the note something descriptive and succinct (i.e. [your name]'s marketplace delivery issue), and send the note to the merchant. It's likely the merchant will replace the item as soon as he/she recieves teh notecard. Merchants who use the marketplace and actually get business there experience this issue all the time, so they understand. ETA: It's a good idea to find items on the marketplace, then purchase them inworld; or at least to be inworld when you place your order.
  24. Programs freeze sometimes. From the tone of your post, it sounds like this is the first time this has happened to you. I'd let it rest for now. Some questions, though - How long have you been playing SL? Was this your first log-on, or have you been here for a few days, weeks...? How hot was your computer? Do you have a cooling mat, or did the bottom/side get very hot to the touch? Mine does this, and it's very bad when playing SL. I reccommend either a cooling mat, or playing in front of a fan, if this is the case. How long had you been playing? A few minutes, a few hours? The longer you play, of course, the worse it gets for the computer, so you might try taking short breaks after an hour or two, then coming back. A less taxing viewer might also help; Phoenix, or another V1 based viewer. Keep in mind some of those have added mesh capabilities, which makes them more taxing on the computer. Also lowering your graphics preferences as much as you can. To get out of it, ctrl+alt+del, open task manager, end program. If this doesn't work, you can restart the computer, and if it won't restart, you can force it to by pressing and holding the power button. (I'm assuming you know this, but stating it just in case.) ETA: Also, how many other programs did you have running, besides SL? SL consumes A LOT of computer resources, so you may have to make sure you close everything else before you play.
  25. Thanks I have one from the watch store, and can't quite get it to fit right, but I may have to play with it more. I loved the Bandit watch I tried on, and it fit very well, it just looked too white, rather than having a silver tone. I may have to take another look there, and play around more with editing the one I have. Thanks again!
