  1. "Best" is very subjective. Pop over to a bunch of the stores mentioned, get some demos, and experiment. Remember that not every skin looks right with every shape. I love Curio skins - but I tried a couple with my shape, and really didn't care for it at all. Personally, I use LAQ right now. I also have Curio, Redgrave, and one thusfar not mentioned - Illusory. (Great for light skins, but they only have a few to choose from.) Illusory was my favorite for a long while, until I found my current LAQ. I have to exit this thread before I go shopping again...
  2. Unfortunately, most sims only take height into account when deciding whether or not an avi is a child or not. This results in many adult avi's being kicked out of the sim, and I'm sure some child avi's manage to stay. Adult sims would be better served to have staff monitering the sim as often as possible, and manually booting people who look and act like children. For the lolita example, in particular - I would feel slightly uncomfortable in an adult sim with someone dressed in a fluffy pink dress with frilly stockings, Mary Jane shoes, hair in pigtails, ribbons, etc. However, if that person were conducting themselves like an adult, speaking like an adult, I wouldn't be bothered. Live and let live, and all that. If, on the other hand, that person were speaking in baby talk and/or acting very childish, I would probably report them. I wish more sim managers paid attention to both sides of the story, rather than immediately boot someone as soon as they get an IM saying "OMG short av! Child av! BAN!!" (Or anything else, for that matter.) But I do understand the potential legal ramifications of allowing a child avi on an adult sim. A diaper on an adult is a gray area for me. I'm not sure about the Linden TOS on this, as it's not one of my interests. Again, my standard would be if it looks like an adult, and acts like an adult...then I don't care whether or not it dresses like an adult. If it looks like a child, and acts like a child... My interpretation of the Linden Labs policy on child avis is that it isn't the way they dress, per se - otherwise creators wouldn't be able to make and sell childlike clothing for adults, or things like pacifier gags, without getting in trouble. If your avi is short, flat-chested, with very few curves/muscles, no facial/pubic hair, and otherwise looks like a child, you have a problem. If your avi is short, but has some breast and curve (female) or muscle (male) definition, maybe some facial or pubic hair, and otherwise seems to be an adult, you should, theoretically, be fine. It's up to the individual sim owner to decide if they want you in their sim. Some are a little too quick with the banhammer, unfortunately...Personally, I prefer sims that state that they may ask you to change some parts of your avatar if they feel that you look like a child, THEN ban you if you don't. This gives you the chance to change as requested, or to leave and find a more accomodating sim. I think it also helps some avi's realize that they look child-like, as that may not have been their intention.
  3. First, you don't have to be Premium to rent land. I rent from Dreamland, and I'm not a premium member. Second, that's a VERY small amount when you're talking about land. You may be forced to either spend a little more or get a room mate. With that kind of price limit, your best bet may be in a sim with buildings for rent; you may be able to rent a small room/loft/apartment somewhere like that. And it's unlikely you'd find a place to park your boat. How many prims is your boat? Since parking it is one of your main goals, you may want to know that first; it'll give you an idea of how many prims you'll need, minimum, while shopping. Just my thoughts.
  4. Repeated requests in groups for "company," usually using the same wording (and grammatical/spelling errors) every time. At least vary the wording or something! It's boring and repetitive. Similar requests in multiple groups at the same time. Really? You're not even going to wait for a response from one ad before trying another? Also boring and repetitive. Advertising in groups in which advertising is not permitted and/or for something that has nothing to do with the group, be it a store or an event. (Had the owner of one of my groups do this the other day. Someone called him on it, and his response was that since he owns the group, he can do whatever he wants. I immediately pressed the "leave group" button.) I didn't join the group to hear about your store or your completely unrelated club event. It disrupts any ongoing conversation, and clogs up my chat. Random friend requests. I don't know you; I don't need you on my friend list. Would you go up to a person on the stree you'd never met before and ask for their phone number before saying a single word otherwise? One person using multiple or repeated gestures in local chat. Clogs up local, the voice used in gestures is usually obnoxious, and I've heard gestures contribute to lag. And finally, constant messages from groups about events. I don't mind every now and then, but I joined a couple groups that sent out a notice EVERY HOUR. "Come to our event!" "Event is halfway through, don't miss it!" "Event ended, but this one is starting; come join us!" etc. I would log in to a full inbox every day from these notices, which meant I didn't recieve information I might have needed because my messages were capped. Rant end.
  5. $20 is certianly realistic - depending how many prims you want, and how big a lot. It won't get you much land or a lot of prims, but certainly enough to live on. It depends if you want a lot of space and want to rez a lot of stuff, or not. I rent from Dreamland, and they have a few parcels that are $20 or under per month, but I found them too small with too few prims for me. Personal preference - I like a lot of space. Lionheart often advertises here on the forums, and seems like a good company, as well, though I haven't used them. What turned me off of them was that I would have had to pay a (one-time) "set-up" fee of over two thousand $L for the parcel I wanted. What I have now, I own the land, bought for $105L, as well as paying rent (which I think is pretty unavoidable). For your budget, I'm not sure what you'll be able to find under $20 that will fit a house 30x35, but you'll have to shop around and see
  6. I was in 8th grade science. They'd kept quiet the whole day; rumors were flying, but no one was taking them seriously. The administration didn't want us to know. My science teacher was silent for a while, told us to put our heads on our desks and be quiet, and stepped outside. A few minutes later, she came back in and said that she really wasn't supposed to tell us, but there would be an announcement over the intercom soon, anyway. She said two planes had crashed into the World Trade Center in New York, and another into the Pentagon - on purpose. Then she turned on the news, and we watched the replay silently, over and over. Got on the bus, went home, found Mom trying to call Dad, who was supposed to go to the Pentagon that day. His work had sent him somewhere else instead, which we finally found out when we reached him.
  7. I noticed when I logged into SL the other day to go mesh shopping that for some reason, every prim object I saw had a strangely pixelated edge, sort of like a diagonal line drawn in the paint program. Instead of looking relatively smooth, as usual, the edges were jagged/pixelated. When I logged back into Firestorm, this went away. Now I've downloaded the new Firestorm viewer with mesh enabled, and encountered the same problem. Is this an issue with the Viewer 3 code, a side effect of mesh, or is it something I can fix in my own settings? Note: As I said, I typically use Firestorm, but since this issue happens to me in the default viewer as well, I think a fix for default would also work for Firestorm. If there is a fix. I have my graphics settings on low (my laptop doesn't like it much higher) with a draw distance of about 200m, water set to transparent, no basic shaders, terrain detail on high. In case any of that's important ^_^
  8. Thanks to everyone! JJLanes is the one I found last night, searching inworld for beach furniture, and is my favorite so far. So pricey! But it's lovely. Thanks again for the help!
  9. It may be a glitch of some kind. I've had it happen where I've ended up -$1L before, but it's usually been a glitch when I tried to buy something. You shouldn't be able to buy anything with no L, though; it should just tell you you don't have enough. Are you in a group that may have taken a "dues" of some kind?
  10. Could it be an effect of something you're wearing - perhaps even the eyes themselves? Or your AO? You could try slowly removing/replacing items one by one on your avi until you find the problem, if that's the case. Take off your AO first, and see if that's it; otherwise, just take things off, bit by bit, until you have no clothing or attachments. Then replace your bodyparts - eyes, skin, shape, hairbase. Most of what you're wearing shouldn't have any effect on your eyes at all, but it's not a bad thing to try. You might try removing/replacing the obvious things first, then move to the less obvious. If it's not an immediate thing, especially, my guess would be your AO or some other scripted attachment. Does it happen when your avi cycles into a particular pose? Just thoughts; in reality, I'm not at all sure what it is, as it's never happened before, but the remove-things-until-you-find-the-cause method is helpful for a great many things.
  11. Moved from General Discussion. Hopefully this is in the right place now, and sorry for the repeat post! I just bought my first SL house! It came fully furnished, but I'd like to refurnish it a bit. The problem is, I don't really know where to go for good furniture. I'm searching the marketplace like mad, and I'm just not sure what's good and what's not. Plus, naturally not everything is on the marketplace. So I'm appealing to the knowledgable forum gurus - where can I find good furniture? Some specifics - I'm looking for living room/sitting room furniture, bedroom furniture, and bathroom furniture. I'd like for most, if not all, of it to have adult animations, couples animations, cuddles, and definitely good solo animations since I'll probably just chill at home on my own rather frequently. My house is very beachy, so I'd like some beach-style, maybe tiki-ish furniture, or at least somethign that wouldn't look out of place in such a house. Good quality animations, of course. I'd also like not to have random poseballs rez any more than necessary; my current furniture often leaves me sitting next to a blue poseball when I sit on the pink, with no way to hide it, even though I'm using a solo animation. I'd rather not spend more than $1,000-$2,000L on any one furniture set, and of course less expensive is better as long as the animations and texturing, etc., are still good quality. So, is anyone possibly able to help point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance for any and all advice!
  12. Thanks, I'll toss it over there I wasn't quite sure where to stick this, since I though "wanted" was a little more oriented towards custom stuff, but I'll give it a shot and see what happens. Thanks again!

  14. I would post this in "Wanted," so more creators looking for commissions might see it. Also, $1500L for a full-permission custom creation is a little low, perhaps, but that will be up to the creator. Good luck!
  15. It's up to you whether you listen to the responses of those in your thread or not. We're all (both?) telling you that you will not be charged an additional $5 for your 512m of land. The list is written poorly, I don't deny that. You're correct, it should say "additional," but they likely assume you know, since, as you say, you must have a premium membership - and thus already have 512m of free land - in order to purchase any land. You seem to be relying too heavily on the poorly written LL guide, rather than the experiences/knowledge of other members. I'm not certain if you came to the forums solely to complain about your interpretation of the failure of premium, or if you actually wanted some advice and personal experience, as you don't seem willing to take the advice and experience you're being offered. Either way, I wish you luck in figuring out the prices and true cost of premium. I maintain my stance that you will NOT be charged an additional $5 for your land/Linden home unless you own more than that original 512m.
  16. Yes, 512m is $5 a month. BUT if you sign up for a premium account, they waive the tier fee, basically, and give you that 512m free. If you choose to purchase ANOTHER 512m of land, you'll be charged an additional $5. You'll have a total of 1,024m, but since that first 512m is free with a premium account, you're only charged $5 extra instead of $10. The land maintenance fee list is for any additional land you purchase, NOT counting the 512m that's included in the $10/month charge for premium membership.
  17. Did you message the creator inworld, or just comment on the photo in Flickr? You may get a response inworld if you didn't already try messaging there.
  18. Of course! Create a folder in your inventory for you current avatar and name it something you can remember and know what it is. Put that folder somewhere you can find it, like in your clothing or bodyparts folder. Or, like I do, use the outfits feature and create an oufit, in which you have your current shape, hair, skin, eyes, etc. Then you can wear the new avatar, and still have an easily located copy of your old avatar.
  19. Are you able to post a picture? That might help us get a grasp of exactly what you're talking about. The obvious question - have you tried a relog? Could you be affected by something you're wearing? Since it happens when you tp, also, do you have it set so that you fly automatically after teleport?
  20. Mine started brown, then went to turquoise, then deep blue, then green, then purple...Now they go between turquoise and a heterochromia effect another eye thread here in the forums made me want to try - one is blue, the other a hazel/brown.
  21. This makes me laugh. "Fix your sim so we can take better pictures, but it's not like we'll ever tip you or anything with the money we make using your sim." The arrogance is hilarious, in a sad kind of way. I haven't yet run into a sim with a "no pictures" rule, but then, I rarely take pictures. It doesn't seem to make much sense, anyway, since people taking pictures is free publicity for the sim. As long as the sim is credited, I don't see why it would be a problem.
  22. Thank you! And yes, I found the hair (and another once I was at the store, plus a skin...) around the same time you were looking for it, through your thread if I recall correctly. It and the other I found there are my two favorite hairs I'm going to try to post to more photo threads as they come up...get some practice. I always get into trouble when I go into them, though...can't help but find things I want! Everybody always looks so fabulous! And your starting photo was what made me want to post in the first place So pretty! All the photos here so far look awesome.
  23. My Indian-inspired look. The weird (though I like it) glare and other odd effects are from me playing around with my newly-downloaded Gimp for the first time Not the world's best photo, but...First photo post!
  24. Those are very exact specifications. If you can't find what you like browsing around inworld, you may consider posting this in the "wanted" section and/or contacting various creators who make something similar or of a quality that appeals to you and seeing if they'll do custom work. It'll probably cost you in terms of $L, so it depends how much you want to spend, but you should be able to get something that closely, if not exactly, meets your vision.
