  1. This would be better placed in "wanted;" hopefully the mods will move it there for you. I think you'll get more responses there. Good luck!
  2. That one is quite nice! I'll have to give it a try. I ended up with the Bandit one, and it's grown on me, but I like this one better - at least judging from the pictures. Thanks!
  3. They really are... ;; I had at least 7 sets before yesterday; then bought at least 5 more. I love them! Love them all If you're able, would you mind sending me the name or landmark of the store(s) you found your usable glove nails in? For poses that "break" the prim ones, it would be nice to have some glove ones so my nails can still look semi-decent. None of the prim one's I've used "break with any of my AO's, or with dancing, just in poses that force the hands to spread. (Or when SL glitches and forces the spread hands...) I did take a picture sitting on a pile of leaves for the fall thread (I think that's where I posted it) and had to take off the prim nails because the pose spread the fingers. I'm so addicted to my prim nails, I don't know what I'd do if my AO broke them!
  4. What makes emo/goth guys "your type?" The way they dress, the way they look, the way they act? Remember that just because someone seems/looks emo/goth in SL, doesn't mean they look and act the same way in RL. Are you looking for love with another avatar, or another person?
  5. When I'm not feeling super lazy, I flag the posts as spam, but even that isn't really effective, so I don't know what they'll do to stop it. I think they ban the accounts pretty much nightly, since it's never the same account; but it's easy enough for whoever's doing it to create a new one. I don't know if they're phishing, trying to infect people's computers with some kind of virus or something...Or if they just live to annoy people.
  6. This seems to be a nightly thing. Not sure if the same person is creating different alts to post these things, but it seems likely. I wish there were a more effective way to stop this, as it's been happening for weeks now...
  7. Thanks! I must have gone to three or four different sites at least, plus your guide here, to put it all together - finding the right place to upload pics here, and such. Took a while, but I got it! Thanks so much
  8. Yes, that's the page you find when you click "bequeath your account" on the first wiki page I mentioned, or in the link I posted Thanks for posting the direct link, though!
  9. You may not transfer your account to another person while you are still alive. If you wish, you may bequeath your account to someone else in your will. Directly from this wiki page: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Sharing_or_transferring_Second_Life_accounts As for creating a will, I'm sure you can type "how to create a will" into a search engine and get instructions there. I'm not quite sure, myself. If you don't know already. All that being said, many people survive cancer. I don't know your particular circumstances, but I wish you luck, and as has been said already, don't give up! ETA: If you click "bequeath your account" in the linked statement above, you'll get more detailed information on how to go about that, and how the person to whom you wish to leave the account may claim it in the event of your death, as well as what they will need and what needs to be included in your will in order for them to claim the account.
  10. You should have various looks, including outfits and hair, in your inventory, in "Library." These are the default items that everybody has when they first start. For broader choices, try typing "freebie" in the inworld search and teleport to some of the places that come up. Look around, and buy what you like. You can also go to the marketplace, and set your filter for "$0-10L." Sort by "price - lowest to highest" to ensure the free items come up first. What will probably be most important to you, for starters, is apparel - women's, and avatar accessories - hair. Also look under "animations - animation override" to get rid of the newbie walk. You can find skins and shapes as well by looking under "avatar appearance." Note: You have to choose a category, such as apparel or hair, before you can filter by price. If an item says "demo" in the title, don't buy it - it is what it says, a demo item, and will be somehow marked as a demo. Many $0L items will be demos, but many others will be actual free items. Note 2: When buying from the marketplace, you may want to be inworld, and buy items one at a time. Otherwise they tend to get "lost" and never reach you. You'll also have to "unbox" marketplace items. Find an area that allows rezzing, and drag the item from your inventory to the ground. Right click, and select "open."
  11. I would try talking with someone else. It's possible that this person didn't want you to hear "his" voice, and so claimed that he was talking while in fact he was not. He wanted verification that you're female, but it's possible that he isn't actually male. You can try going to Voice Echo Canyon, as someone else suggested, to see if you can hear your own voice. Then try talking to a few other people and see if they can hear your voice. If so, this person was probably not someone very trustworthy, or had a problem on his end. If not, you have a connection issue of some kind. If you cannot hear your own voice, you may have to play around with settings, both in SL and on your computer. I had a difficult time setting up voice with a headset rather than my built-in mic, and it took me some time to get it set up for the headset. Not sure what device you're using.
  12. Are you able to upload an image to show us? With the information provided, the only advice I can give is that perhaps you're not on a mesh-compatible viewer. An image would help. Of course, perhaps someone more experienced than me will be able to help you without seeing an image
  13. What else does it say? What's the exact message? It's hard to help with something as general as "it failed." You may be over your limit. Buying limits start low and increase as you continue to buy $L reliably. If this is the issue, submit a ticket about it and LL will most likely raise you limit as quickly as they can. After all, it means you want to give them more money.
  14. Thanks to everyone so far for your responses! So far it seems prim nails are the way to go, which reassures me that I'm not horribly out of style or doing something wrong I picked up a few new sets of prim nails thanks to various suggestions, and passed over the (much too expensive) painted nails. I'm happy with my decision, so thank you for all the adivce! Other opinions welcome, of course ETA: JeanneAnne, the easiest way to color match the nail-hiding gloves, if you choose to use them, is to rez a pose stand and stand on it, then zoom in close to the hands. Use "show color under cursor" (in Firestorm it's under the develop menu, which you reach through the advanced menu) and hover your cursor on one of your fingers, just under the nail. I used the side of the finger, rather than the top or bottom. Then edit the gloves, edit the color, and input the values you just got from "show color under cursor." This only works if your nailbase glove layer is white and tintable; both Sexy Mamas and Pixel Mode nails come with a white, tintable nailbase. (If you have a popular skin and buy the PM nails, they also have nailbases configured with popular skin values, as Marianne said.)
  15. What size are your hands? Most prim nail makers make their nails to fit certain sizes; the most common I've seen are 0, 10, and 20 on the slider. This makes them extremely easy to fit; just wear the ones in the appropriate size. ETA: For inexpensive, try TGIS or Sexy Mamas. TGIS are the cheaper of the two, and I love them. Only $199L for the glitter pack on the marketplace (I'm not sure about instore, probably the same), and they're gorgeous. They also have a safari pack (not quite to my personal taste, but lovely nonetheless) and a bridal pack that is not on the marketplace but can be found in their inworld store. I have the bridal and glitter packs, and they're both awesome. The bridal nails come in size 10 and 20; the glitter come in 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30. Not sure about the safari. Sexy Mamas are just under $300L, and you get a lot of colors (and most of the packs are a bit more neutral than the TGIS colors).
  16. I just picked up some Mandala nails; they're so lovely I couldn't resist! I do wish they had the second color palette in a short version, though. Still, beautiful. I originally favored Sexy Mamas nails, but a few months ago bought some gorgeous ones from TGIS, and those are what I wear almost exclusively now (before I bought the Mandala ones, which I may like better...). I like having multiple sets, though, since they all have different colors and designs.
  17. The plus I can see about using glove layer polish is that it moves with you. I've had trouble with poses that spread the fingers, and then the prim nails are unusable because they're so badly out of alignment with the fingers. But otherwise, I think the prim nails are much more realistic and attractive. Thanks for your thoughts and experiences; good to know before I buy painted nails that they still don't really help much with the skin nails.
  18. I love my skin, but hate the nails. They're jagged and odd-looking, and I thought they ruined the look of the rest of my avi, so I bought prim nails. I have several sets now, and LOVE them! But lately I've seen a rise in painted nailpolish, rather than prim nails. I can't remember exactly where I was the other day, but I kept seeing painted nail polish, everywhere I looked! It looks like maybe a glove layer, or possibly a tattoo layer. So what do you all think? Do you use any kind of nail/nail polish, and if so, do you prefer prim or painted nails? Do prim nails on other people annoy you, for some reason? Why? Do you not like or use either? ETA: It's possible I'm wildly mistaken, and what I thought were painted nails were in fact prim. I don't think so, but you never know...
  19. Nice shoes I have the no-gem set, myself! lol As for the alpha mask for ankles, I don't know of one, but I'll be watching this thread to see if anyone else does...
  20. If you don't love your shape and can afford a new one, hunt around for one you do love, then go skin shopping with it, trying on the various demos until you find what you like. If you do love your shape, keep trying on demos using that shape until you find a compatible skin. Like the others who have posted, I don't really know what you mean when you say the demo "didn't help." I have noticed for myself that the skin looks a little different without all the demo lines that it does with them, so it can be a little difficult to imagine it without those lines - but it didn't make a huge difference for me, just a very small one. My newest skin is Pink Fuel. (I didn't think I'd ever buy from them, because they look a little young to me, but it grew on me...) They're pretty hefty, price-wise (for the fatpack, with all eye make-up options, at least), but equally hefty content-wise, so to me it was worth it. Other than that, I'm an LAQ fan, but others I've heard about include Dutch Touch, Mynerva, Curio, and Belleza. And more that I can't currently remember. Some sell shapes to go with their skins, some don't. Also, Dr. Life has a couple nice shape/skin combos, but they're very Asian in appearance; don't know that that's what you're going for. Hopefully with a snapshot, myself or someone else will be able to help more.
  21. I've encountered this problem with all kinds of skin, clothing, and hair I've purchased. You really just to have to try demos when available and hope you get what you wanted. Unfortunate, but true. I would definitely prefer a completely untouched image, maybe just remove the background and put up the photo, but very few do this. That being said, there's only one creator where I purchased a shape, then found the skin that went with it, wore both, and was not impressed. And that was more on the shape creator's side, at least as far as retouching the photo in the ad so that the skin looked different than it was. You just have to be careful what you buy, try the demos, and if there is no demo available, I suggest you leave it and go elsewhere. BTW, there are tons of threads about skins here in the forums, so if you're looking for a more reliable shop you could try one of the mentioned shops (if one of them wasn't the problem already). People post them because they've had good luck there, so maybe you will too.
  22. I don't have much experience with this sort of thing, but - why can't you click it? If it's invisible, you can try highlighting invisible by hitting ctrl+alt+T. Maybe someone else will have other ideas, though.
  23. Go to this link and follow the instructions one by one until you find something that works http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Why_do_I_look_like_a_particle_cloud
  24. I think it's lovely. Many times the older the skin, the lower the detail. If you look at very old skins, there's very little definition and changes in color in the skin, while the newer skins have a lot of definition and color changes - like real skin. Yours has very nice definition, color changes, and detail. I think it looks quite lovely, not old or outdated at all.
