  1. I put hunt gifts up for sale after the hunt is over. My group gifts are new releases, so they go up for sale on the same day as they're offered as a gift.
  2. It should work as you've said here. Anything not tagged with the group tag, or owned by you, should be autoreturned in 15 minutes. It's hard to know what's going on without seeing the land. My best guess would be if you parcelled up the land, there are bits without autoreturn, and the centre of the non-returned objects are hanging over that space. Or you recently joined/divided parcels, which resets autoreturn to 0.

I'm dyslexic, so I've been there. As long as I understand, I'm fine with that. The trouble was I didn't understand your post, and nor did anyone else. We all had different interpretations, and judging from your reaction here, none of us understood it. So you have a choice now. You can try and re-explain it and we might be able to help you. Or you can throw a hissy fit, blame everyone else for not understanding what you meant and edit everyone's posts. You seem set on the latter, which isn't in your best interests. People will help, but they do need to understand what the problem is in order to do so.
  4. 16 wrote: have only ever seen the -1L myself is good to know that sometimes can be +20L as well. is a really weird amount tho I assume the reason it goes to 20L, is so you can pay yourself 1L and get your real balance back (as any payment will force it to update). It used to go to 0L, which wasn't so handy for that.
  5. This was discussed over on the games forum too: LR Cheaters ARs can't keep up with the number of people doing it. They need to cut out the open-ended crystal collection, or restrict how often people can turn them in each day, so that there's no point in hanging around to collect crystals. Whether the Lindens plan to ever update their game, who knows. But if they do open up the LR system for other developers, it's a good lesson learnt about why you don't throw in something like the crystal collection. It might seem like a nice thing that people can do once they're finished, but it just makes it so no one can do the story parts of the quest.
  6. Custom work is all very well, but you'll make more bread-and-butter money if you sold off-the-shelf component packs as well. My main need is for basic components I could make myself, but don't enjoy making. I have a particular hatred of making the multi-face prims used for making plants/fields/tree foliage. These aren't something that need to be custom, as the thing that makes a tree stand out is the texture on it, not the basic multi-face thingy. So I'm not going to pay custom prices for them. Offering the dae files is good, as that's a criteria I have for mesh purchase. I want to control the uploads and be able to tweak shapes if needed. But for non-custom packs, you can probably simply include a notecard telling the customer how to request the daes if they want them (emailing their transaction ID to X address, or something like that).
  7. I prefer copy items. To the extent that I'll only buy a transfer item if it's a very special item. I've brought transfer game boards for example, because there aren't equivalents that are as good. But an item like clothing or a sofa... there's always another vendor offering a similar product with copy permissions. In my own business (I sell garden stuff), I experimented with offering some items as transfer. I very rarely sold any, so it wasn't worth it. Most people who wanted to buy gifts used the marketplace. I went with the flow and added in-world vendors where people could buy copy items as gifts.
  8. Public adult content should be on adult land, but a lot of the time it goes unreported on mature land. But some of those words aren't automatically adult. Sex could bring up an academic area discussing single sex schools through history. One of my areas comes up for Gorean, because I have kaissa and zar in my chess garden. Context matters when it comes to whether to report something or not.
  9. mgjackson wrote: I was wondering that. in West Haven, the price of a couple of 512 plots was 40,000L$....that seems a lot, even in real money thats quite a sum. You always get a few plots around at silly prices. I lived near one for several years, which was for sale for a very high price (and I believe it's still for sale). Land like that either sits there unsold forever or gets abandoned. Private estates are often more expensive than mainland, but even there, they won't be that expensive.
  10. My two biggest issues are: 1. Rental prices are too high. RP sims often charge more than average, and they don't provide the additional customers to make up for it. Most of the traffic at RP sims is there to RP, not shop. 2. When I click for the info notecard, the guidelines don't tell me what I need to know. My main questions are whether my products are allowed here (so a good description of what is and isn't okay to sell) and whether being a non-human is allowed in the market area. Few RP sims answer those questions. ...but no one seems to want to lower their rent, so it's better if they pick up affiliate vendors. Then they'll realise why people aren't renting, because the sales just aren't there.
  11. Gamja Myanamotu wrote: My question is how does a person get their sim on the destination guide? Thank you. You fill out the form here: https://secondlife.com/my/forms/destinations.php After that, I don't know... I filled it out a couple of months back and heard nothing. So either they're very backlogged or no reply means rejection.
  12. Linden Lab wrote: We want to give the Second Life community more control over the celebrations and to put the focus of the events where we think it really belongs: on you – the landowners, the creators, the artists, the DJs, the musicians, the venue managers – the people who make Second Life great every day. *cut* As many of you have pointed out, there are pros and cons to the approach we’re taking this year, just as there have been in the past, but we hope you’ll choose to participate and enjoy the celebrations. Club owners could run a party. People who enjoy clubs could attend a party. But for builders and artists, there isn't anything set up this year. You could still turn it around, by setting a theme and adding themed builds/art collections to the destination guide. But as it stands, this setup is for parties, not for builds. Which is one reason why I was disappointed, because I don't run a club and I don't enjoy parties. I enjoy building and exploring, which aren't being included in this year's celebrations.
  13. I've been migrating mine a few items at a time, and added some new items. Nothing's gone wrong.
  14. Dirtnap Mumfuzz wrote: I don't personally think the promotion is unclear. The language of it is incredibly simple and to the point. I don't think that is the issue, IMHO. I didn't find the description clear, as it was odd they described the 60s in the terms of an office environment. But having googled Mad Men (after seeing the comment here that it might be the origin of 'madstyle'), that looks like it's set in an office. So is the work environment what they want? Or just 60s fashions rather than decor items? I think the stuff I've tagged is relevant, as you could make a psychedelic landscape with it, but I'm not totally sure that's what they were after. All that said, though I'd have liked a more wide-ranging description of the sort of stuff they meant, I do think some merchants are trying it on. There are grey areas in interpretation, but it's clear some tagged any old junk.
  15. It makes sense when you think about it. Most people who create drama don't realise they're doing it, because they lack an awareness of how their actions appear to others. They believe it's other people causing the drama, because they can't see that their actions are the problem. So their profiles are also going to lack that awareness, and be aggressive, drama-inducing and blame everyone else for everything. At least profiles like that give you prior warning.
  16. Knowl Paine wrote: What form of discussion would be relevant. If it's just a LL bash fest, I will go. It is not a productive use of energies. I do want to help. This thread isn't because we're incapable of working as a team or making our own fun. We spend most of the year organising our own things, building our own things and working in teams with our own communities/friends. And that's great, but the big events offer something else. It's a chance for people to get together with the wider community, including those who don't check out the forums. There is still the RFL stuff this year, which has the big event feel... but I know some people get burned out by that, due to the fundraising pressure and how long it goes on for. The birthday offered an independent once-off event, without that level of pressure. You can't fix this by hosting a build contest at your sim or running a big party. They're all nice things to be organising to be sure, but they won't change the situation. The community provided the volunteers for the birthday, so volunteers we have in abundance... but without the Linden support for sims and publicity, it'll always end up as you and some friends. Most of the people who'd take part in the birthday are people you'll never meet in SL under other circumstances.
  17. Looking at what's already tagged, very little has a 60s vibe. Though given that the Linden description of the 60s doesn't mention things people usually associate with 60s design (like minidresses and psychedelic colours), maybe the tagged stuff is what they wanted. Who knows. I've just tagged anything rainbow coloured.
  18. I get the feeling from some comments I've seen elsewhere, the update didn't entirely sink in for some. Because the update avoids saying outright that the birthday has been cancelled, and tries to spin cancelling it as a good thing, some took that to mean the big event will still be happening with the destination guide as an extra. This is like telling someone they can buy themselves a loaf of bread for their birthday, instead of you giving them a cake, because bread is healthy and won't rot their teeth. So really, it's better for them to buy bread.
  19. That's very disappointing. Okay for people with clubs who organise parties... but not so great for people who enjoy building. I loved wandering the builds last year.
  20. I thought the avatar names were the cherry, as they're so obviously names created for spamming. There wasn't even an attempt to sound genuine.
  21. On the other side, when I didn't have much stock, I went looking for garden affiliates. One place had nice products, so I got their affiliates.... The product pictures were dark, dreary and made the products look awful. They were taken at midday with no additional lighting. They were taken as a distance so the whole product showed in one shot. They were technically honest pictures, but they didn't look like the final products. That's because in SL, you walk around a product. You can zoom in and out to see the detail. You mentally compensate for things like colour balance based on the ambient lighting. You don't just see a static shot of it. Product pictures are an attempt to turn a 3D experience into a 2D one, and that means they'll never be completely accurate. Merchants will often have to do things to the picture to create that illusion of accuracy. Obviously, if someone takes that too far and paints out the flaws, that's a bad thing. But most merchants aren't doing that.
  22. Qie Niangao wrote: ... if it isn't highlighting as returnable... I'm still confused by this. Have you tried with a viewer that doesn't have this highlighting ability? If that doesn't work, I'd like to see this 15m encroacher. That seems very odd indeed. Odd, even for crossing sim borders in my experience... but on the other hand I've seen enough inscrutable cross-sim phenomena unrelated to encroachment that nothing would surprise me. My viewer greys out the option if it isn't possible to return. I didn't try another viewer, as I didn't have that much time. Today, it let me return the wall. I can't say why for sure, but I think the owner had been back to the plot and may have edited the item. I did screenshot it, so if it happens with other objects, maybe I'll figure out a trend.
  23. I got to test this today, where it crossed a sim line. It could be better. Whether I could return it depended on where I stood. Sometimes I had to be on my sim, and sometimes on theirs. For one object, I moved a few steps (in the same sim) and suddenly I could return it. So if it isn't highlighting as returnable, try moving around. But there was one object that stuck over by 15m that it refused to return. I don't know why, as it clearly encroaches more than any of the other items.
  24. The issue is that it has the open-ended crystal hunting in the first place. It would have made more sense if Tara offered a once-a-day crystal hunt quest, for those who've done the main quests. Once that quest is done, there'd be no point in gathering more crystals that day. People would still cheat, but not to the point where others can't complete the quests.
  25. Most books I've seen fall into two categories: 1) Public domain works offered for free or a token price. 2) Extracts of a longer work available for sale elsewhere, offered for free or very little. The trouble with selling original work for a decent price is SL isn't a comfortable reading platform. Unless you're a well-known author, where people might pay for an SL exclusive regardless, I don't see it as likely to bring in much money. There's nothing stopping you from doing it for fun, but if you'd like to earn tier money, a wider product range would be advisable. (You could do related stuff like reading chairs, bookshelves, etc., sized to fit your book range.)
