  1. Yes, it will be fake. Linden Lab never send out emails like that. A lot of phishing emails are sent out that look like they come from a legitimate source. Never click on links within emails. I think your instincts are telling you this already, but your forum thread serves as a timely reminder to everyone to be aware of bogus emails asking for private information.
  2. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Marit. The best thing to do is, once you have clicked "help", "report abuse" and got that vital screenshot there on the abuse report form, teleport away from the area that is being abused and complete the report in peace. The abuse report form will have recorded the location (you'll see that in the details already on the report form).
  3. Now I am sandwiched between my two favourite straight-talking people in SL. :matte-motes-wink-tongue: I laugh hard when I get accused of being a Linden alt and a suckup. It's rather fun to think that people might perceive us in that way, and actually seem to resent us for it. I admit I like to be Oskar Linden's footstool occasionally, and the Lindens certainly aren't 'the enemy' like some people seem to treat them as, but I think being on the payroll it wouldn't be such fun - at least you and I and all the other helpers/contributors/advisors/etc can walk away at any time without giving notice, should we be so inclined. Keep on with your 'outbursts', Peggy. You tell it as it is, and admit when you're wrong (which is rarely). You are not responsible for how people choose to take your words. I bite my tongue a lot (which is why it resembles a doily), and wish sometimes that I would say more of what is on my mind, although on the Answers section, I have learnt not to make it like the General Discussion area.
  4. /me stares and points "It's an actual Linden" :matte-motes-smile: Thanks, Oz, for posting. This information is much appreciated, not only by the OP.
  5. Welcome to Second Life Answer, Teressa. A sim can be portioned off for this purpose. Please take a look at the official Knowledge Base for details how to divide land and set permissions. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Managing-your-parcel/ta-p/700113
  6. I think you're being extremely sweet to give the OP the benefit of the doubt, and think their first language is not English. (Although I still believe they are just writing in lazy English - foreign speakers often make a better effort and even if their words are the wrong way round, their spelling/typing is not so bad). The person whose alt I think this is equates people with opinions as being griefers, people who use scripts as griefers, anyone who does things differently to them as griefers. They probably view RL in a very skewed way too. :matte-motes-not-entertained: As someone who did not consider myself to be at all computer savvy, it has amazed me how many residents of Second Life have really great computers, and yet do not understand the basics, such as updating drivers, disk cleanup/defragment. As you say, it is a wonder that they manage to even log on. (As long as they're not working on a computer in my bank, though, I can live with that :matte-motes-wink:)
  7. MaddieAldridge1 Baudin wrote: Where can I buy femail prodects like when it's that time of the month??? Please see Rolig's perfect answer... and just to add, you can get pretty much everything and anything over on Marketplace or inworld, just type in key word to search box in either, but if you're looking for PMS, for that you have to draw on your own imagination :matte-motes-evil-invert:
  8. I just they're not like those scripted belly talkers - yuuuuukkk (just too much information) :matte-motes-oh-rly::matte-motes-sick::matte-motes-agape: And I really wish I wasn't thinking about what talk would come with a tampon or ST... "Maddie's hormones make her crave chocolate cake NOW" "Maddie's hormones are making her want to throw a strop" "Maddie is about to shove the nearest avatar out of the way so that she can get to those shoes" etc etc etc I'm nominating this topic for Post of the Day :matte-motes-big-grin-wink:
  9. None of us can say what Linden Lab think about Inworldz, but as the total number of users logged into it don't come close to what Second Life have currently, I doubt they're worried. Regarding copyright, anything that is out in the open can be adapted to be similar, but the open source code is identical, and free to anyone who wishes to use it, adapt it, modify it. Dyson vacuum cleaners have many patents so people cannot copy their products identically, but there are many similar ones on the market. Bizarre world in which we live, eh?! (And jolly confusing for most of the time.:smileyfrustrated:)
  10. Lili, if you recently changed your password on that other account, occasionally I have known the new password not to take effect immediately. Try on your old password. But really, if you think you have been hacked, you need to submit a support ticket to LL via the "help" option at the top of this screen, choosing the option "my account has been compromised". They will put the account on hold, verify who you are, and your account will come back to you.
  11. Several possibilities. As you're not a newbie, and this issue is very recent, taking into consideration all the information you've provided so far, it sounds like either you haven't got sufficient RAM remaining to run some versions of SL, and/or your graphics card is protesting, due to wear and tear (I would be inclined to believe it is the latter). If you're someone who has a ton of software to different games on their computer, stores videos, photos, etc., on hard drive, eventually it can get used up. In your shoes I would be removing any unnecessary programs, saving videos and photos to separate hard drive/usb storage, giving the inside of the computer a good blow out with air spray, disk cleanup, defragment, and if still having problems, would consider replacing graphics card. Keep us up-to-date, please. Best of luck.

I have always liked how the British use the affectionate words, even though they might not mean much. When I visited first time in London I was amazed by all the polite manners there. Gives a nice humane touch. Sweet smiley hugs - love that gesture. Aye, our bus drivers up north call everyone - male and female alike - "love". It is nice, can really make your day. I wish Viewer 3 did suck, though, then it would have two uses, and I could have it as a vacuum cleaner (or something). Motto in this house is "if it doesn't have two uses, it doesn't come in our house" !
  13. Coby Foden wrote: Avariado wrote: Good for you, honey!!! Here, Viewer 3 eats at least 600mb RAM, reaches 100% of CPU usage often, and keeps CPU at 60ºC or more. Are you British by chance? If so, I can accept the honey... or more likely I would accept "luv" what the Britons use very freely and affectionally even to strangers. :smileywink: At the moment, just after being half an hour in SL, Firestorm uses 898 MB of memory. When I stay for many hours it can approach 2 GB. However the CPU usage ticks between 8 to 12 percent. Hardly ever it will go over 15 per cent even in busy places. Heyup, mate, cocka, love, duck, chuck (I'm up north in the UK). I might use Honey if I worked with you and you were a lot younger than me. My ex-boss's secretary in my first job used to call me Honey. I thought it was very sweet. (She had trouble remembering my name, it turns out. ) I don't know what my own statistics are, I just know when I'm slow. Just for the purposes of the notes swapping on this thread, my viewer of choice is Phoenix, I prefer a black handbag, even in the summer months (swapping bags means I often would forget my keys, or something:catindifferent: ), and I am (sub-consciously I think) rebelling against mesh viewers. Ironically, when I go to extremely busy sims, such as Bondage Ranch, Phoenix crashes on me, and Firestorm works a treat. For general teleporting around the grid, and things rezzing quickly around me, and a steadier FPS, Phoenix seems to do it for me.:catvery-happy: I have nvidia 9500GT, only 1.5mb of RAM (which is uber-pitiful).:matte-motes-shocked: And my Virgin connection leaves a LOT to be desired. :matte-motes-sick: But generally, Honey Pie (I really really like you ) I tick along without many problems in my Second Life.
  14. Use "ctrl" "alt" "t" to show up any hidden objects, and/or beacons and see if any objects show up. My guess is that there are objects there, but have become ghost prims. A region restart might fix the issue.
  15. Welcome to Second Life Answers, shuishidalman There is a lot of information about lighting and shadows over on the Knowledge Base... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Lighting-and-shadows/ta-p/997819 As with real life, shadows in Second Life are created in the same way, and so anything with a certain amount of transparency will not generate a shadow. (It seems you answered your own question really.)
  16. It was through this video of Torley's that I found the other video link. (Good ol' Torley - I love his tutorials) ... I think all of us, when we were newbie, were totally the same, intrigued by the fact we could fly and build in the sky. I remember being so tremendously excited at some of the great buildings I found up there. When we were able to build higher than 768m it got even more exciting. Now, though, maybe we are getting complacent. LOL.
  17. Just to add an old video from 2007 "1 Million Meters High"...
  18. Just to add to Rolig's superb answer, I think the thread about highest height you can go in SL is this one ... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/highest-hight-possible-in-sl/td-p/1021925 ... and thanks, Rolig. Superb post. This is what I've learnt today. :smileyhappy: Edited to add: I think there may be an even older thread than the one linked to above, but it's way before my time, and might be lost at the bottom of a very dusty archive box somewhere.
  19. Perrie Juran wrote: I'm wondering who's Alt this is? The content sounds like one particular complainer but the language reads like another one. Maybe I am wrong for thinking that. But it sure looks that way. The vibe is the same, but the typing is more "relaxed" - which a lot of people do when they are trying to fake around on an alt account. I don't think you're wrong.
  20. Holger Gilruth wrote: They have not done it after several years and i dont think they will do anytime again something for us The comment I would like to make to you is not publishable on a public forum, and yet I have no wish to make private conversation with you either.
  21. Linden Lab are constantly upgrading and tweaking. Things have certainly improved a lot since I became a resident in 2007, and if I were to complain about anything, it would be the fact that Linden Lab have had their fingers in far too many pies since the beginning of this year. Bringing in Mesh and Pathfinder, working on improving those sim crossings (and they are vastly improved - I was, only this past week, travelling in a truck that was heavily-scripted, containing three seated avatars, all with scripts on, riding along the highways of the Linden mainland, and as we crossed over sim borders, not one of us became unseated, not once did the truck appear to go under the ground, or up into the air, not one of us became "ghosted"). Why must people always be so quick to complain and put something down, and not focus on the positives? The graphics are constantly improving. Yes, there is one area that does not improve, and that is the situation with the griefers who have the ability to crash regions, but from each problem, comes a solution, and some sort of improvement. Linden Lab do not publish all that they accomplish, but for sure there is a lot going on behind the scenes that you could not even dream to know about. For the record, I rarely have been in a sim that suffers from sim crashers. These places - such as welcome areas, infohubs, sandboxes - are notorious for this, and so I keep away. While people feed the griefers, they will always find a way of outwitting the system. So why do people keep feeding the griefers? That is the question I would like to know the answer to? And this is up to all of us, as residents of Second Life, to do our bit, to report the crashers and griefers, use the tools we have available, and then to walk away from the situation, and let Linden Lab do their jobs with the tools they have available. Regarding security, I have had no issues with Linden Lab and security, whereas with my own bank in real life I have. Linden Lab may be God-like, but they are not God, and they are as vulnerable as anyone else, and again, I believe, they have as much security in place as they need to have, and are working on this all the time.
  22. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Jade Please delete the information in this thread that is naming the names of other avatars. This is against the Terms of Service. Once an abuse report has been submitted to Linden Lab, it will be investigated. If you do wish to cancel an abuse report, you can just send another abuse report to state that you wish to cancel it. If Linden Lab have already started their investigation, and if they find there was no reason to submit an abuse report, it will be automatically disregarded. Do not worry. Best of wishes to you.
  23. Yes - you are right - if there is real mind-control issues, or if something was urging people to take this out into a potentially dangerous situation in RL, then RL authorities must be informed.
  24. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Dep I read with great relief that there is no money or RL meetings involved in this apparent cult-like way someone is running their sim. Undoubtedly anything that would have appeared to be like a pyramid selling scheme would have been against Terms of Service. Unfortunately, when it comes to relying on something/someone so deeply, be it alcohol, a particular friend, or group of people, in real life or in Second Life, the responsibility has to lie with the individual. The sim owner - like cult leaders tend to be - is on a massive power trip. They can indeed do as they wish with their sim, and they can, if they so wish, ban anyone at any time without any reason. I hope your friend can put this down to experience and be very wary of becoming so reliant on one aspect of their (second) life, and it's good they have you, as a good friend, to lend an ear. Help them to widen their circle of friends and activities in Second Life, and to balance it out with a bit more real life perhaps.
  25. ... Find yourself a pretty boy or two to charm, and if you choose wisely, Lindens and virtual diamonds will come your way. Although, as MILFs are ten a Linden dime in SL, you would do better to take the advice of Rolig and simply convert the price of a FFM41 into L$.
