  1. A problem to one person seems to be a feature to another. The subject of sea levels was discussed at one of Oskar Linden's Beta Server User Groups. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Beta_Server_Office_Hours/Minutes/2012-06-14 As this is already in the public domain, I am breaching no ToS/Community Standards by adding in the relevant part of the log here: [15:55] Sigma Avro: I have a metaphysical question about sea level [15:56] Sigma Avro: If one changes sea level in a sim, how should this imapct neighbouring sims ? [15:56] Moundsa Mayo: Instantaneous change at boundaries. [15:56] Oskar Linden: they're not affected [15:56] Sigma Avro: how should it be seen from child agents ? [15:56] Oskar Linden: their level stays the same [15:56] Oskar Linden: and they see the water raised [15:56] Oskar Linden: at the sim border [15:56] Nalates Urriah: We have stair shaped water in SL [15:57] Sigma Avro: Well, it is because 20 meters depth is not a lot, and in private continent some are wushing to have it larger [15:57] arton Rotaru: when I zoom into the neighboring regions, I see the under water view when going lower the sea level of Morris [15:57] Rex Cronon: it would make more sense to have gradual ghance [15:57] Rex Cronon: change* [15:57] Lares Carter: If your avatar is in a region with high water lever and you alt+cam in a neighboring region then you get underwater effects at the wrong height. [15:57] Sigma Avro: so from around this continent it should not be seen as a step [15:57] Moundsa Mayo: You can set it to 100m and it won't crush prims! [15:58] Sigma Avro: It is a real problem for me [15:58] Maestro Linden: Well, it used to be that the viewer would render water in all other regions (including void areas) at 20m always [15:58] Maestro Linden: then that bug was fixed so that the sea level was consistent with the current region's [15:59] Sigma Avro: yes, well, the way to solve it is not always easy I suppose, because one sim may want somthing, and another somthing else [15:59] Maestro Linden: and now there are complaints that regions with impossible configurations (one region's see level at 100m, with its neighbor at 20m) look funny [15:59] Maestro Linden: the only solution is waterfalls
  2. Ooooo I had another thought. Check your graphics slider isn't set to "ultra".
  3. Hello Quenida. If this issue was happening before this week's scheduled maintenance, it sounds like it is your inventory that is failing to load correctly. You therefore need to clear your cache, and relog into a quiet empty location - try Furball or Quarrel. When you log in, open your inventory window and wait for it to fully load. It will take several minutes, and will seem to stop at times, and can take sometimes around 30 minutes, so please be very patient, go answer emails in another window, or make a drink and walk away for a while. Hopefully, all will be well. If you need to add more to this thread, please do so by clicking on "options" at the top right hand corner of your original post and "edit".
  4. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Pax I see that you are very new to Second Life. Have you been able to log in at all with the Second Life viewer? I would suggest uninstalling the viewer completely from your computer, and install it again. Make sure you are using the full version, and not the Beta version. https://secondlife.com/support/downloads/?lang=en-US Please note: there are other viewers available to use, which might work for you. There is a link to the approved viewers towards the bottom of the web page I give link to above. Good luck to you. **** Edited to add: If you wish to add more to this thread, please do so by clicking on "options" at the top right hand corner of your original post and "edit".
  5. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Gregor You say you could run Second Life before without a problem, but your symptoms are all pointing to your graphics card showing signs of wear and tear. Over time, just like people, components within your computer wear out, and SL is extremely tough on graphics cards. As others have already suggested, giving everything a good blow out with an air duster will help if the issue is being caused by overheating.
  6. It's not a new griefing tool, but seems to be one of the "spells" HUDs that are available on Second Life Marketplace. The people who use them, do so at their own risk, and really should only do so on friends, or at parties, with permission, otherwise it is griefing rather than fun spells. These HUDs can be set to select one avatar or a whole sim full of avatars, and they don't even need to be within range of them, and they can be set to stealth mode, so it becomes virtually impossible to detect who is responsible for casting a spell on you. Some examples of spell HUDs: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Empower-Magick-Spellcasting-HUD-v5-Deluxe-Pack/1550168 https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Ultima-HUD-3-R-Evolution-Spell-Combat-HUD/1139226 The body parts look like zombies that explode into masses of bloody body parts when they make contact with anything. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/SasTech-Noob-Zombie-Rezzer/88146 All can be a lot of fun... in the right context.
  7. SUZE Gothly wrote: Since yesterday I have been having trouble. I can't seem to get my FPS up higher.Which normally it was running over 24 or more now it dropped. Anyone can help me? Welcome to Second Life Answers, SUZE I don't know where you are in the world, but if you happen to be in the UK, you could attribute the drop in FPS to the kids breaking up for the long summer holidays. How is your FPS at different times of the day? Is it affected by the type of sim you are on; ie, are you visiting busy sims, or is it consistently low FPS? Other answers will follow. As I have not been logged in for two days, and there has been a deploy in that time, I am unable to blame the reduction in FPS on the latest server updates by LL. 8. It looks like the offender came and removed all their objects from the sim. You should be able to get home now.
  9. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Cracker You're in a resident to resident help area, so there isn't a massive amount any of us can do, although I am currently in Nightfield and see the mess there. Someone must have forgotten to put autoreturn on their land. :matte-motes-frown: What you need to do, is get as close to your property as you can, and then click on "help" and "report abuse", tick the box to attach a screenshot, click on one of the offending griefer objects so that you can see who has caused the havok, and complete the abuse report form. Keep it brief and to the point. Category is prim littering/unfair use of region resources. Send it, and hopefully LL will come and remove it.
  10. Welcome to Second Life Answers. This is a resident to resident Answers/Forum. You should be able to verify your age officially by clicking on the Second Life icon (the eye in the hand) at the top left hand side of this screen, and there on the left hand side of the next screen will be options to take you into your account, and age verification process. It might be very straightforward for you. However, if you do have any problems, please click on the link in valerie's post "...create_case" to submit a support ticket directly to the good people who are officially employed by Linden Lab. Best of wishes to you.
  11. This is "the thread of the day" for me. :smileyvery-happy:
  12. P.S. Even if someone can see that you are on line, even if they contact you, you have the right not to reply. Just like in real life you do not always have to answer your telephone. True friends will always understand your need to have your own space.
  13. Ooooo you were tooo fast ;-))) I was still composing my response and you were here three minutes before me!
  14. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Lepertige. There is no way of preventing the group information from showing your online status. If you really feel the need to be totally hidden from people, then you can make a secret alt, and not join any groups. Also, you can put in a feature request via Second Life JIRA.
  15. Welcome to Second Life and to Second Life Answers, CW. You are logged into these forums, but have you actually yet downloaded the viewer and logged into that? If not, then please click on the link at the bottom of this screen that says "Download Second Life". Once you have the viewer software downloaded, you will get the option to "start Second Life now", so do click "Yes". valerie's thread contains some wonderful links to places where you will meet very helpful and interesting people. Also, if you would like to see what the original orientation process used to be like, a place where you can learn the basics, once you are logged into the Second Life viewer, you can click on this link ... http://slurl.com/secondlife/Welcome%20Island%20Public4/32/221/25 And the viewer will give you an option to teleport. Enjoy the new adventure that is about to begin for you. :smileyhappy:
  16. I agree with you. That old notification could cause people to be unnecessarily "butthurt", and really, being on a friend list is not a true indication of friendship.
  17. This used to happen on the Phoenix viewer, but I think it was one of the features that was seen as some kind of breach of privacy. So in short, no, you can't be notified when a friend removes you from their list.
  18. PudgyPaddy wrote: What's up? Why do some people go out of the way to get bent over the silliest things? Life is not cast in black and white so I wonder what happened to all the grey area. Do you really wonder what happened to all the grey area? It seemed it became a trilogy of best selling books all about fluffy handcuffs, whips and ooh lala - 50 shades of it in fact :matte-motes-big-grin-squint:
  19. Sadly, I know you're right, Nyll. I tried ARing a different type of griefer on a Linden home sim, and although the griefer themselves were removed from the grid, for some reason, the noisemakers they left behind remained in world for a week or two afterwards. But still, it does no harm to encourage everyone to do their best for their neighbours, as Zoey has done, as you do. I live in hope things will improve.
  20. If your partner is using the official Second Life viewer, she can just click her mouse in the land description box, which will go from (sim name) to (sim name 111/111/20 (or whatever location she's at). She can just change the last number to 3954, and she should land in your house ok. On the Phoenix or Firestorm viewer, you/your partner would just need to type "gth 3954" (without the " ) in open chat and should land there. No teleporter needed. Or, you could have a makeshift transporter, just by rezzing a simple cube and sitting on it, click on it to go into "edit", and again change the Z number to 3954, and unsit when you arrive in the house.

But wait - I have my privacy set so NO ONE CAN START FOLLOWING ME. So that's the puzzle. Oh-oh, sounds like another glitch in the system :matte-motes-mad:

Caitlin Tobias wrote: Letisha Blackheart wrote: what I have noticed is that most of you that reply really have nothing in your profiles to signify you have any experience building or seeing beauty in things. Most of you find a building and stand in it. For a sim to be beautiful you do not need tons of people all around. Oh and the music was sim conidtion. Also please come and look around and actually come on the sim. I think most of you also lack skills in even roleplay or even trying to make this a fun secondlife. Sorry guys and girl our sim is awesome and many people come and enoy and relax. I love commentors in SL. So out of touch with any reality whether SL or RL. Have a happy day! Really? Amazing you know 'us' so well, I am sorry to say this, but this sim you are so bragging about is really nothing special. Maybe you should go out more and see what there is, out there.... And I would have to say that as I know Cait can make even a sow's ear look picturesque, I'm inclined to take her word (and Sy's) about how lacking the advertised sim is. A dreadful excuse for spamming the forums if ever there was one. **** Edited to add: aimed at the OP and Letisha really.
  23. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Zoey, and thank you for sharing with us your own experience of this type of griefer. It's helpful to residents, new or old, to see what method works when dealing with griefers and their delightful gadgets. :-))
  24. Welcome to Second Life Answers, PierGuerino Contact the person you rent the land from. It may be that they do not know their sim is not accessible at this time. If you look at the world map and see the sim is "offline", wait for 30 minutes. If it fails to come back online, then if you are a Premium Member, you can contact Live Chat https://support.secondlife.com/start-chat/ (this is text chat) - tell them your region is offline and they will look into the issue. Good luck!
