Gadget Portal wrote: Anybody else find that a lot of people are inconsistent about things, and before you know it, something (or someone) else has caught their attention, leaving you to fend for yourself? Anybody know an interesting place to spend some time and perhaps meet some new people? Yes, I find a lot of people - RL and SL - are inconsistent about things, and rather fickle, and I guess I am too. I'd hope, though, that no one relies on me so much that they ever felt I'd left them to fend for themselves. Saturdays and Sundays, Devon Dreams sim, Giant Snail Racing. Either as a race participant, or to make up the numbers on the practice runs, or as a spectator. Funniest thing I ever saw in SL, and I made some great mates there. I don't get chance to go any more, my RL calendar has prevented it unfortunately (and I am fickle you see). Art Box at Klaw sim (on my profile picks) is a good place to visit regularly. Some days it's people coming and going, other times, people want to friend up and then that leads on to going to other interesting places. Or gatecrash the green dots. That's always a winner for me. Really really sorry you get bored (how is that possible though?) Edited to add: A lot of the places I used to regularly frequent are no longer in existence, but Hobo Junction at Caletta used to be buzzing with potential new friends from all over the world. Look also for 'coffee house' in Searches. Several good ones in the top ten, where people pop in and out, if you're feeling like a chin wag. Hang around the Linden oceans around the Blake Seas for long enough, and you get picked up by a trawler or sail boat, or helicopter. Especially if you're out on a rubber duckeeeee :matte-motes-big-grin-squint:
  2. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Tomera As well as the great answers already given in this thread, please note that on some sims, there will be some sculpty prims that will appear as torus in shape; several months ago, there was an issue with certain sims, whereby sculpty prims turned into torii. The problem was fixed, but where land owners have not re-rezzed the item, the misshapen sculpty remains.

  4. UncommonTruth wrote: I'm rarely bored, easily amused, and my attention wanders constantly. I don't have a specific place to recommend either (super helpful too I know) most of my friends are met while wandering aimlessly snapping pictures and perving profiles. I guess that's my advise.. just open up the people list and see who's nearby, there are interesting people all around us. :matte-motes-smile: Yes, yes, yes! You have described to a T what I am like. I do not do 'bored' and want to run over with my virtual truck people who complain of being bored - real or SL. Life is like a box of chocolates.. and all that. :matte-motes-big-grin-wink: Profile perving has definitely been the most enjoyable pastime for me in SL, and has certainly sent me to some very interesting places. Sadly, some of those interesting places have closed down now - Apollo, Greenies, the Def Leppard Arena, Galaxy Dreams. Titanic and Art Box still remain, and my favourite pajama store always has a new item that spurs me on to go on another themed adventure. (A little bit barking mad, but true.). My partner encouraged me to try afro hair one week, and that led to us going on a Thelma and Louise style road trip. LL sent out those weird rail handcars and that was ridiculously funny, colliding with all the other people who were out on the Linden railroads trying those out. Random hopping around the mainland has been marvellous. No two days have been the same. Aiming for the green dots on the world map has sent me into the middle of some fun situations. I keep directing people to the Destination Guide and keep promising myself I am going to work my way through it, but somehow haven't had the chance to do anything except give it the slightest of glances. I now fear what I must be missing. How can anyone be bored? Really !
  5. It saddens me that you may think you wasted time with SL, as there is such a lot to see and do, although some people don't ever take to it. I personally do not enjoy going to music clubs, and really detest the "YAY!!! WOOOOO" types spammy chat gestures, although I do still like particle poofers (!). For some people, though, a music club is somewhere to park up their avatar, set it in dance mode, so they can listen to the music in the background while they are in another window answering emails, checking up with RL friends on social networks, viewing movies, or even ironing their shirt for their real life job the following day. As others have asked/said in this thread, how many RL venues do you go to where people talk to everyone in the venue at once - open chat in SL is the equivalent of that. Having a 2-way conversation is enough for most people, so a lot are in private IMs. A few weeks ago, I was invite to an interesting breakfast meet-up. The chat was very busy, and interesting, and it was rather excellent how so many people from different parts of the world could meet up like this. It would have been impossible - and expensive - to have syncronised our times and met up in RL in the same way. What was your reason for joining Second Life? Where did you hear about it? What would you like to be able to do?
  6. ROFL "with floaters" - just like our River Thames !! Irene, I am English. The Russians and Chinese will win all the gymnastics medals. We have a strong swimming team in GB, which our country is focussing on the most. Like with the Eurovision, we are likely to get 'nil points', but you know what they say ... "it isn't the winning or the losing, it's the taking part that counts" (hahahahahahahahahahahaha) Viva la difference!!
  7. Wives are heavier on shoes :matte-motes-wink: I'm totally with Rolig. My system is not totally dissimilar to your own. I also have nvidia 9500, which was a great card back in the day; but if you're giving your computer more wellie than your wife is; ie spending more time in SL, playing videos, trawling youtube (as I do), running SL and youtube/film channels/several windows at once, of course your own system is going to show more signs of wear than your good lady's.
  8. Yes, we are in different countries in the world, and yet we do have very similar opinions. Group Hugs. :matte-motes-kiss::matte-motes-big-grin:
  9. People can hide scripts inside objects - ie jewellery, HUD's, hats, that can track people. Also, if a person does not have autoreturn on their land, people can rezz chatspy devices (which are a violation of privacy, and against Terms of Service). Solution - never accept sweeties from strangers, and ensure land has autoreturn set.
  10. Welcome to Second Life Answers, DarkAngel Just in case no one sends you a private message inworld (!), I will respond to you here on the public forums. You cannot know for certain if someone has created two (or more) accounts in Second Life. You can guess, if there are similarities, ie style of photo on profile, types of groups joined to, style of typing/paragraph layout/choice of font, etc. However, there is no way you can be absolutely sure. It is safer to assume that most people make use of alts. If your inner voice is telling you that someone has created an alternative avatar, they might have. This is not against any Terms of Service, nor are they necessarily running around Second Life doing anything to deceive you or anyone else. If you would like to discuss this further, please do so by clicking on "options" at the top right hand corner of your original post and "edit".
  11. Morning Valeeva wrote: Hello DivingFireWolf, Thank you for your help....i will try cleaning the inside of the pc...this does not happen when i am using Firestorm.... What are the white things that look like sheets of paper? Morning Good morning, Morning :matte-motes-smile: I really don't know what those white things are that look like sheets of paper. I would guess it's linked to your graphics display, but it would only be a guess. Any chance of uploading a screenshot to show us?
  12. Yes, Peggy sure knows her stuff, and is very thorough. :matte-motes-smile: Have a browse of the approved third party viewer directory ... http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory I'm currently using Phoenix, which runs based on old SL viewer code, but everyone has a different preference. Runs pretty good on this old boat of mine.
  13. Welcome to Second Life Forums, Divinefirewolf It's not an unusual problem that you're encountering. It might be simply because your graphics card is needing the updated drivers. Pop across to the website for your type of graphics card and you will be able to pick up the latest free driver download. As you've gone through the cache clearing procedure, another suggestion is, are you perhaps overheating? When did you last clean out the inside of your computer with a good blast of air spray? Also, unfortunately, graphics cards don't live forever and Second Life is quite a heavy load. This might be happening due to wear and tear.
  14. Welcome to Second Life Forums, TheSarali The only difference I have noticed since last Monday, when the kids broke up from school in my locality in RL, is that at certain times of the day I find it hard to keep a stable connection, and am slow. Other times I am as normal, except, as Charolotte says, when I visit busier places in Second Life. I suggest you check your graphics card drivers are up-to-date, and also check you haven't got your graphics set too high in the viewer (I sometimes forget to turn mine back down to medium again after taking photos on Ultra).
  15. Falkrist wrote: Now I understand our problem deals engineer that principle the pleasure and want to eventually eliminate this problem forever. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-29332 Thank you Falkrist for posting the JIRA link here. It is interesting to read. It is clear that Linden Lab care A LOT :matte-motes-smile: They are being very thorough with your problem.
  16. It was not there? It should be, as it's still listed on the Destination Guide. It's also still listed as active on the Grid Survey website. I would suggest trying again a little later. ***** Edited to amend. It looks like the owners are in the middle of a theme change, and are soon to be putting on an Air Show.
  17. They usually work for me too. But in this moment, I can look up individual names and profiles, but not my home page. Seems odd I should get some of the web pages without any problems but not others.
  18. While you're in my.secondlife.com, click on "home", see if you also get the error message. I get the same issue with Firefox.
  19. I also am unable to access my.secondlife.com in this moment, Miles1. I could do so two hours ago, so it is possibly a temporary glitch. I've only had this happen a couple of times since the inception of the feeds, and although they haven't put anything on the grid status, I think it is likely to be a little bit of maintenance going on. Keep your eyes peeled, and let's see what happens in the next hour or so.
  20. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Clay. It's not uncommon for people to be able to use the viewers that are based on the old 1.23 code, and find they have issues with V3-based viewers such as Viewer 3 and Firestorm. As valerie says, it would be very useful to see your system specifications. It might be time to invest in a new graphics card, or maybe some more RAM, but we can only guess. Also, ensure you are using a hard wired connection, rather than wireless. Looking forward to receiving your update, so we can attempt to help you further. ***** To add more to this thread, please do so by clicking on "options" at the top right hand corner of your original post and "edit".
  21. It's amazing what plants the seed of inspiration - I thoroughly enjoyed this. "These are the cries of the carrots"! :smileylol:
  22. Just a little afterthought, Robert69. Have you tried contacting the CEO of Linden Lab directly? Send him a message via his Second Life Feed, with the video link. Or invite him to accompany you to any of the welcome areas in Second Life. Why bother with us at pleb level, when you can go to the top. In 2008, I had several concerns about certain activities in Second Life, and invited the then CEO to come and see my world. He sent a representative Linden person, and I gave them a guided tour. Certain policies were made clear to me, I understood more, and I was able to properly show the Linden my concerns. It became a healthy two-way street of communication. All this fighting on the forums between residents is really not helping, and certainly, all that shouting and criticising in open chat over in the welcome areas is only feeding the griefers, amusing the locals, and scaring off the newbies.
  23. Robert69 Little wrote: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xsc51o_ahern-welcome-area-july-2012-griefers-in-second-life_videogames Nice video footage, Robert. I mean it. And I did not see you standing there because I obviously had my camera focus elsewhere. I alt viewed each individual in turn, but did focus mostly on the ones who were actively on voice. After a while of hearing the "f" word, it becomes a bit like a car alarm, in that the brain automatically filters it out. The masturbating goat is, I feel, more of a goat-like creature. I agree it is not acceptable. I agree that this is not acceptable behaviour in a PG area, and I agree that expletives like the "f" word etc., should not be used in a PG area. However, I do not agree with your need - or anyone else's need - to make it an obsession. As I keep saying, your methods are actually just adding fuel to the fire. What is needed is an AR whenever anything inappropriate occurs, and then leave it at that. If Linden Lab choose not to take action, then you have to accept their choice and move on. Did you come into Second Life to become a vigilante? I know I certainly did not.
  24. Hello, mutandroid. Please don't start any more new threads. Let's try and keep all the information contained in one thread and see what we can do to help you. Keep checking back regularly, to see if there are new responses also. If you have previously been able to access Second Life without such problems of crashing every few minutes, then it does suggest the following to me: Your graphics card drivers need updating - please go to the nvidia website for free driver downloads Your system may be overheating - it is amazing how dust accumulates inside a computer and this can cause such problems to graphics cards. Please ensure you are using a hard wired connection as opposed to wireless. Please also keep this thread updated. We would like to know what solves your problem. More answers from others will follow too. Please keep checking back here.
  25. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Hoffman If your account has been put on hold and you have an email to this effect, you must follow the instructions given in the email. If, however, you are just getting a message up on your log in screen to say that "you cannot access Second Life from this computer", then you can call the freephone numbers given in the Knowledge Base for "Billing". If the account being on hold is an error, it will be easily rectified. However, calling LL or their rules "dumb" is not going to help your case. Please try to curb your frustrations and be calm. We, as fellow residents, would like to know how you overcome your current problem. Wishing you luck.
