It does! :smileyvery-happy: For anyone else reading this, I'll hold my hands up and admit that I made an edit to the guide above saying that flip horizontal doesn't make a true mirror image but it does. I got all confused becuase I forgot that in rotating the camera to take the second snapshot for the mirror image and then flipping it horizontally, it does indeed create a reflection. Basically, I'm stoopid, but in my defense it was far too early when i wrote this! :smileyvery-happy: Anyway - edit removed and the guide is correct! /me goes off to take some paracetamol for her poor brain!
  2. It's probably the dreaded "RenderVolumeLODFactor" debug setting. If it's set too low it can cause small sculpted prims to not render properly. It used to be the case the setting it to 5 worked best, but I heard something recently that suggested 3 was now the magical figure. You can read more about it here: http://virtualfashionfeed.com/tag/rendervolumelodfactor/
  3. So, yesterday I was playing around with creating a photo of my avatar looking at her reflection in a mirror and, because I'm feeling all generous today, I thought I'd share with you how I did it! Note that there may be other ways to do this, or things I did that could be done better, so feel free to share your tips too. :smileyhappy: I'm going to show you how I created this basic image of my avatar looking at my reflection:I've written this guide using Photoshop Elements and am assuming a basic knowledge of image editing. The principle should be essentially the same for other image editing software.First of all you need to take your snapshots inworld. You'll want a snapshot of your avatar facing a mirror in SL like this:Note that this is just a basic snapshot taken in my plain white building skybox. You can obviously take a snapshot in a more detailed location, but bear in mind this may require a little extra work when you come to cutting out and overlaying your mirror image. You'll also want to take the snapshot at a slight angle rather than snapping directly behind your avatar. This is so that we have a decent portion of the mirror viewable for our reflection. Now take the mirror back to your inventory. Be very careful not to move! Swing your camera around so that you are now facing the front of your avatar and try to maintain the correct angle for what will be your reflection. If we imagine that in the image above directly behind my avatar would be 6 o'clock, you can see that I have taken the snapshot at a slight angle that would make it something like 4 or 5 o'clock. So, the opposite of that would be 10 or 11 o'clock and that is where we want to swing our camera to for the reflection. Here is the resulting snapshot:Remember to maintain the pose your were doing for the first photo. If your pose is animated, wait until the action is the same as it was for the first snapshot. Now we have two snapshots, and here is how they look in Photoshop:The first thing you should hopefully notice is that if we were to move the 'reflection' onto the main image with the mirror it wouldn't be quite right. It needs to be mirrored to be a true reflection. The easiest way to do this is to simply flip it on the horizontal (Image > Rotate > Flip Horizontal) as follows:So now we have a mirror image of our avatar from the main photo. Before we drag it onto the main photo to become our reflection, we need to delete the space around the avatar. Use the Magic Wand Tool to delete the white space, not forgetting areas such as those between your arms (note that if your snapshot is a background layer it may be locked preventing you from completely deleting the white space. The easiest way to unlock it is to double click on the padlock in your Layers palette and click ok to rename it as a new layer). Also bear in mind that, if your took your snapshots with more background detail in SL this may require more work and careful thought as to how you proceed. Some of the background detail would also be reflected in the mirror and it won't be quite as simple as deleting white space!Once you have deleted the space around your reflection you should have something like this:We can now drag our refection onto the main image:There are now three main issues. 1. The reflection needs to be smaller as the mirror is slightly further away.2. The reflection needs to be slightly more transparent to look as though it is in a mirror.3. The reflection needs to be behind the main avatar. The first two are easy to address. Simply resize the reflection layer slightly by using the move tool and dragging one of the corners so that it looks right for the size the reflection it should be in the mirror, then turn down the opacity slightly (I used 65%) using the opacity slider from the Layers palette. This results in the following:It's starting to look like a proper reflection! Now we need to address the fact that the reflection is in front of the main avatar which is slightly more tricky! We need to delete the areas on the reflection that are overlapping the mirror or would be blocked by the avatar standing in front of the mirror. Firstly we can delete the areas overlapping the mirror by going to the main image layer and using the magic wand tool to select the white space around the main elements of the image. Once they are selected switch back to the reflection layer and hit the delete key. This will delete the areas selected from the main layer on the reflection layer. Be careful to switch back to the reflection layer or you will be deleting from the main layer. Again, remember that if you have a more detailed background this will require more work as you won't just be dealing with white space that is easy to select. Some careful use of the eraser tool will likely be required. You should now have something like this:We can now start to delete some of those areas on the reflection that would be behind the main avatar in front of the mirror. Use the Magic Wand tool again to select the dress on the main avatar, switch back to the reflection layer, and hit the delete key. That will delete those areas on the reflection that should be obscured by the dress:You should be getting the idea now! We are going to do the same with the skin area of the main image by selecting it with the Magic Wand tool, switching to the reflection layer and deleting it:This has removed most of the areas we want from the reflection, but there are sill a few small spots that were missed by the Magic Wand tool. Zoom in close using the zoom tool and delete those using the Eraser tool as follows:Make sure you are erasing those rogue spots from the reflection layer, carefully ensuring you don't go over the lines of the main avatar. This requires a steady hand! In the picture above, for example, we just want to carefully erase those spots from the refection layer around the elbow of the main avatar. If we go over the edge of the elbow area we will be deleting parts of the dress refelction which we don't want to do! Carefully pan around the image erasing all these rogue spots that are still in front of the main avatar. You'll also want to erase and areas of the reflection that are still overlapping the frame of the mirror.Once you are done you should end up with a rather marvellous image of your avatar looking at its reflection like this:This was a bit of a quick job I did and there are lots of things you could do to improve the image even more. For example, you may notice that some of the edges around the main avatar are a little jagged and pixelated. This is partly because I forgot to turn on anti-aliasing in the viewer when I took the snapshots. Anti-aliasing helps a lot with this (see here for more info on that). You can also do more work in Photoshop to address these issues such as using the feather tool to smooth araeas. The liquify filter works well too.Anyway - hope some of you found this useful and have as much fun with it as I have been doing! Post your results in this thread! :)
  4. As Wolwaner says, if you are using an older viewer that still has the "lastname" field at logon, you need to put "Resident" as your last name in that field. Note that, eventually, all viewers will probably adopt the single Username approach to logon so you'll then just need to use your single name. I also note that you say you "cancelled your Viewer 2 account". There is no need to do this as accounts are not viewer specific. You create your SL acount and can use that account to login with any compatible / approved viewer (be it Viewer 2, Phoenix or any other third party viewer). Hope this helps!
  5. You need to place the items you want to sell into a "Magic Box" and then list them on the marketplace. There is detailed information here on the Knowledge Base to get you all set up http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Selling-in-the-Marketplace/ta-p/700193
  6. Well I'll be! Ctrl+Z appears to be working for me now. Which is typical - the moment I complain it goes and works! lol Perhaps we are just seeing some perculiarites server side - I've noticed the last few days there has been a bit of weirdness - slow responses, failures to rez etc. Which is the first time I've had such problems in AGES to be honest.
  7. Has anyone else noticed that Ctrl+Z for undo doesn't seem to work in 2.6.0? I really need this feature when building to revert rotations, positioning etc. Am I missing something or is it a bug? (and If so does anyone know if there is an existing Jira? If not i'll raise one).
  8. Just got a new skin (with rather marvellous shadows in all the right places to enhance my ... erm ... assets!) and this seems like as good a place as any to show them off! :smileyhappy:

A fortnight is a period of two weeks. I believe it's a contraction of 'fourteen nights'. It's a very old expression which is seldom used in the US but I think is quite current in the UK and probably other places where English is spoken. Fortnight is indeed in common use here in the UK to describe a period of 2 weeks. I never knew it wasn't widely used in the U.S. - I love it how i learn something new every day due to the global nature of SL. I'm surprised it's never come up before because I'm sure I must have said "fortnight" to one of my U.S. friends at some point. The again, they are always just looking at me funny when I use a very British idiom and don't bother to question it anymore! :smileyvery-happy:

Claireschen Hesten wrote: i reckon one of your competitors is deliberately flagging your items the more similar items they flag knowing they automatically get unlisted the more sales they will get because of it i don't think your items have ben flagged for a genuine reason Just to clarify, items do not get automatically delisted when flagged! It is actually quite difficult to abuse the flagging system on the Marketplace. If an item is delisted it has been looked at by someone from LL who have confimed it is in some sort of violation. The most common cause though is listing in a top level category which you are not supposed to do. For more info I suggest the OP read all of this thread paying particular attention to the comments from Dakota Linden giving details of what to do if your item has benn unlisted and you are unsure how to proceed : http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Merchants/Marketplace-flagging-system-is-being-abuse-to-remove-competition/td-p/772425
  11. It's been a while since I installed V2 too, but I'm pretty sure that, even after a person has selected all maturity ratings in preferences, it still defaults to General only until the tick boxes are also selected in the search window. So that might tie in with what you are seeing - more new users defaulting to General only for their searches. However, I would imagine that, assuming a new user has got as far as age verifying and changing preferences, they would also quickly spot (or already be aware of) the check boxes on the search window. I suppose its also possible that an increase in General only search returns may be a result of the teens. Although, as their numbers are relatively small I guess their effect would be minimal (having said that, now 16 and 17 year olds can legitimately join the main grid, maybe there have been a ton of new teens signing up - would be interesting to see some stats on that actually, although I guess LL may not want to release them).
  12. My understanding of search in V2 is this: - The very first time someone installs it they'd need to go into preferences and set the option for either general only, general+moderate, or general + moderate +adult. - When they next type a search in the search box in the viewer it would open up the search window with the results but would only show general results. They would then need to tick the moderate and adult options in the search window to see more. - Once they had done this, the tick boxes they had chosen in the search window would be remembered and all relevant results would be return on sunsequent searches (and that is remembered accross logons). Of course, someone may change those filters in the search window to narrow down results at some point and that would be remembered too if they forgot to turn them back. So it is possible that new users could just be getting General results even after setting their preferences if they don't do the tick boxes in the search window too. However, I think it should be fairly obvious once they do a search as they should see that just the 'general' box is ticked and realise they need to tick the others for more results. I haven't observed what Luc is describing. The first time I set my preferences and the tick boxes in the search window I'm pretty sure it's always been remembered whether I type my search query in the search box in the viewer interface, or from opening up the search window. It's possible something has changed recently though and I'll check the next time I get chance ETA: Just noticed Luc's latest reply. I think that "authorization token missing' error might be a bug with the age verification that seems to effect some people. It might be worth trying to age verify again, update payment info again or raise a support ticket for that.
  13. George Orellana wrote: @OP. Any business that behaves the way LL has been behaving lately doesn't stay in business too long. Any business that which engages in any form of commerce whether directly or indirectly is responsible for meeting customer satisfaction. You would not expect the same bahavior from your local bank would you? Or from your local grocery store even? I would bet that you certainly would not. If you go to a restaurant in RL and are disrespected by any staff, you would complain to the manager. The same goes for LL. What the LL fangirls forget is that although SL is a game, LL is a real business and must act like one there is no excuse. The problem is that LL like most SL businesses treat their business as a game. Sometimes I wonder if anyone at LL ever took a course on business, at least Business 101. To be honest, I'd almost argue the opposite. Contrary to popular belief, I'm not a 'fangirl' but I do like to think of myself as realistic and I'm forever trying to point out to people that LL is a RL business and that very fact has implications for what they do and how their policies are enacted. I think people sometimes forget that fact when they complain about certain LL policies etc. So yes, I absolutely 100% agree that LL is a real business and must act like one. That's going to sometimes mean making decisions that people who just want to play a game with no restrictions don't like and get angry about. As LL is a real business it does, of course, also mean that customer satisfaction is very important. They don't always get that right but it's also important to remember that managing customer expectations is important too. Customer satisfaction doesn't mean doing everything every customer wants to make them happy. If it did most companies would go bankrupt! Just out of interest, what is your opinion of 'the way LL has been behaving lately'? I've seen people criticise the 'way LL has been behaving' for years and it's still in business. I'm not saying there aren't things they can't improve because there undoubtedly are. I'm not seeing any particular behaviour change lately that directly threatens their existence though (if anything I'm slowly but surely seeing the opposite - a shift in behaviour that might just solidify their existence for a number of more years at least). As I say, I'm not sure exactly what the bahavoiural issue we are talking about is, but using your "You would not expect the same bahavior from your local bank would you?" example - What I can say is that there are a few things that customers get unhappy about from their bank. Certain charges for example (not to mention the fact that they are largely responsible for the current recession we are in - but that's a whole other complex debate!) However, all we can do is express those concerns to our bank as directly and factually as we can. As long as they are operating within the law though, it's unlikely they are going to change their policies unless a large proportion of their customers leave them. It's pretty much the same for LL - if a huge number of customers starting leaving they have to try and figure out why and make changes to bring them back quickly. It hasn't happened yet though and I don't think it will happen. Yeah, some people have left (and new people have arrived) but their isn't a massive groundswell of people leaving SL because there simply isn't cause for the masses to leave. There's cause for different people to have different concerns about aspects of SL, but there isn't cause for the majority to leave. If anything I'd say we get a whole lot more listening from LL than we do from our banks anyway. My bank certainly doesn't have a forum for it's customers, or periodic User Groups for customers to attend and give feedback. About the best I can do is pop into my local branch to say my piece to an employee (but not to anyone who can make high end decisions unless in extreme cases) or I can drop them an email or feedback form and hope someone responds as I want them to respond!

  15. Unfortunately not, no. Scripts cannot be put in the magic box as they would interfere with the functionality. If someone were selling scripts on the Marketplace they would first have to put those scripts inside a box and then put that box withing the magic box. If the products you are selling are your own, you'll have to put a separate boxed copy of those items within the magic box for selling on the marketplace. I'm also not sure if you are saying that you are a franchise seller of someone else's creations? If that is the case then you shouldn't really sell the items on the marketplace anyway. Only the original creator can. If all frnachise sellers could sell on the marketplace it would result in multiple listings of the same item.
  16. Ahhh - the eternal debate and one that, to be honest, I'm a little tired of getting heavily involved in so please forgive me if I keep it succinct. For the record, I agree with a lot of what the OP has said and I agree with a lot of what the responses so far have said too. The short answer, for me, is that everyone has a right to complain if they feel the need, but they don't necessarily have the right to to do so abusively or agressively. I do have to quickly pick up on a couple of comments from Darrius (let's face it Darrius, we've been agreeing just a little too much lately and that can't be right! :smileytongue:) Darrius Gothly wrote: But when you spend days, weeks and months on these forums ... and when you read day after day the same problems, the same issues and the same complaints .. from the same people .. about REAL issues that get ignored, dismissed or worse .. the intensity and vitriol laced into those "complaint" posts makes sense. I understand what you are saying, but there is perhaps a little more to it than that. For a start it depends how we define "from the same people". If, for example, we are talking about 10 people with the same regular, angry complaints it doesn't mean that those 10 people are right. 100 people maybe means there is something in the complaints that LL need to take heed of, although even then it's only a small fraction of their user base. 1000 angry complainants and LL should probably definitely be taking a hard look at the particular complaint. That's not to say the 10 angry complainants should be ignored. Just that they shouldn't necessarily expect their complaint to be the popular opinion and one that LL must immediately address. It always annoys me a little when I see complaints that include the phrase "Everyone knows that ...." or "Everyone agreees ...". It's like the "Everyone knows that viewer 2 sucks and LL should drop it" type comments I see. Such comments tend to immediately devalue the complaint, in my opinion, because they attempt to speak for other people who may disagree entirely with the complaint. Also (and I'm probably being a little bit semantic here) I can't really agree that vitriol ever makes sense. I mean, it might do it very extreme cases where life is threatened or something, but I don't think anything as insignificant as LL policy warrant vitriol (Relatively speaking of course. I'm not saying LL policy is in itself insignificant!) If i strongly disagree with something (which does sometimes happen! :smileyvery-happy:) I'll try to firmly and cleary express my disagreement, but I hope I'll never stoop to being viriolic. My dad always used to say "The moment you become angry is the moment you lose an argument". It's probably not quite as clear cut as that, but I do generally agree with the underlying sentiment. Darrius Gothly wrote: If a customer of ANY retail store or corporation walked into their location every day and cited the same complaints as people here have expressed .. after a month of getting no response they would be well within their rights to begin bringing hammers, big mean friends and picketing on the front walk. If anything, the restraint shown by many with valid, costly and at times "fatal" (in the SL sense) issues is admirable. IMO. Again apologies for being a bit pedantic and picking up on semantics but 'bringing hammers' and 'big mean friends' sounds dangerous to me. Protest a serious complaint if you deem it that important by all means, but keep it peaceful. This weekend's massive protest in London against the Government cuts in public services springs to mind - it was a huge protest (believed to be anywhere in the region of up to 500,000 people) that sent a very clear message that is hard for the government to ignore. Sadly, a small splinter group of a couple of hundred people determined to resort to violence marred the whole thing, diluting the message sent to government and giving them an excuse to focus on the disgraceful actions of those few rather than the bigger and more important message that had mass support. There are, of course, very extreme cases where more violent protest might have some value. Again, we are talking about extremes where things such as lives are threatened though (we could perhaps draw a parallel with some of the disorder in places like Libya, for example). Relatively speaking, the insignificance of SL issues would never warrant violent protest. In short - everyone should have the right to complaint and comment on their concerns with SL issues, but those complaints start to lose value the moment they become overly aggressive, in my opinion. Numbers are important too. A few complainants shouldn't be ignored, but it also shouldn't be assumed that their opinion is necessarily the popular opinion either. Okay so .. ummm ... not quite as succinct as I originally intended! :smileysurprised:
  17. Check the maturity ratings for your items. The maturity ratings were recently changed to include general, moderate and adult and it's possible that some of your items have been bumped to adult if they are using words deemed to be adult (and hence would not show up in a search for just general or moderate).

  19. Funnily enough, I just noticed that little book icon and saw that it said "Knowledge Base" when I hovered over it too. I wonder if that is the only way LL have of seeing when somthing has been nominated for the KB? I'd hope they get some sort of alert or something too as those icons are not likely to be spotted that often! Also you are absolutely right Irene - credit where credit is due so I have update that comment on the KB saying that the information came from Catwise
  20. Tateru Nino wrote: Oh, allow me to rephrase: On the Disney side of things, I wrote an article on just that a little while ago, but apparently I can't give you a link to that, so you're on your own there. You can give a link where it is relevant to the discussion at hand. It will only get moderated if it is blatant spam advertising, or a link to something that otherwise breaks the participation guidelines. People have got in a bit of a tizz about the whole deleting of links to external sites things, but LL have clarified it numoerous times at User Groups and stuff. In short - links to external sites are fine as long as they don't break the participation guidlines (which includes obvious "come visit my forum which is so much better than these forums" spam, which was the main cause of the issue in the first place really!) At least, that's my understaning and will be how I operate. If an external link is relevant and not otherwise breaking the guidlines I'll post it without fear of moderation!
  21. I've added a comment to the bottom of this page of the knowledge base with the wording Catwise provided I think those with Advisor rank and above can add comments to the KB. However, these comments are not particularly that visible so it may not be seen by readers! However, I've been told that LL will keep an eye on KB comments and add them to the main text if deemed necessary. Also, i believe those with Helper rank can directly nominate forum posts for inclusion to the KB which it looks like Irene has done. That should definitely get it on LL's radar and hopefully it will be added to the main article text as a result (Yes, I know it's a bit of a pain that only certain ranks can do things like this but hopefully it will at least get picked up either via my comment or Irene's nomination now).
  22. Liisa Runo wrote: Finally. Now if they could just change the order. I think real name should be written big and display name under it in small letters. Real name is the only thing that we want to see anyway. And display name is the irrelevent lil addition that might be usefull over someone's head in some RP but distracting in every other place. Except thats not really the way the names are supposed to work. I understand what you are saying but your reference to "real name" is incorrect. It's the username not the 'real name'. The username is basically the underlying account name (think of it similar to an email address). The display name is the name the person wants to be know by (think of it as the shown name associated with an email address). Using that email analogy, depending on how someone has set up their email account, you will usually get an email from "Jane Doe". If you want to know Jane Doe's actual email address you have to click on it and see the detials behind the name. The names now work in the same way - the display name is the main name the person is know by (and therefore should come first) but it is still important to be able to see the underlying username, just as it can be important to know an underlying email address.
  23. You may also want to play with anti-aliasing to address issues with pixellation around the edges of avatars and objects: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Antialiasing
  24. I would recommend you read *all* of this thread including the responses from Dakota Linden to identify how you need to fix your listing to be in the right category.
