  1. It should be in your Lost and Found folder (probably as a coalesced object) but it sounds like you have already checked this and it's not there. There is a Wiki article here with lots of info about inventory loss and recovery (unfortunately its a bit unweildy and needs reorganising, but it still has good advice) http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Inventory_loss Try some of the steps there. If you can't get the items back though you'll have to raise a support ticket.

If something like that does get implemented I suppose I'll let you take a little bit of the credit then (or at least bask in my reflected glory!) 5. Would it be possible to have some sort of grid status 'ticker' at the top of all forum pages, or at least a more obvious link to the grid status? This may have been suggested before, but looking at Answers today prompted me to raise it again. There must be 10 questions asked in the last few hours about problems accessing web profiles and the "frame load interrupted by policy change" error. As this is addressed in the grid status, perhaps having the status more prominently displayed near the forums (and particularly Answers) would help to reduce repeat questions like this?
  6. The process of how to apply is detailed here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Commerce/Dash-Deal-Test-Program-Opportunity-for-SL-Marketplace-Merchants/ba-p/768033 And more here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Dash_Deal_Test_Program This is, of course, detailing the test program. If it did go live I'd hope there were an easier way to submit entries from our Merchant's page on the marketplace. Having said that, I doubt I'd apply anyway. I'm glad that LL are looking at some intersting ideas and running such test programs, but it isn't for me. I've been involved in similar inworld programs before run by residents and, in all honesty, I've never found any of them to be of real value as a marketing or promotion tool. In my expereience the best marketing and promotion someone can do is to simply use the freely available communication channels open to us all (social media, blogs, inwolrd groups etc), to make quality products and to offer good customer service. I do very occassionaly get involved in a hunt or similar, but only when it's for a charity or other good cause. To be honest, I'm kinda hoping this doesn't pan out for LL and they go back to the drawing board. As i say, i'm glad they are looking at opportunites like this, but I think they are missing a trick here. I think they are a little behind the times and should be trying to think up a new cool promotion idea that hasn't been done ad-infinitum already (these "reduced price for a limited time" type deals have been organised inworld for years and the concept has become someone washed out and boring in my opinion).

  8. Lera Keng wrote: Exactly how/where are merchants submitting their products?? Is there a place in Marketplace to sumit because I cannot locate any information within Marketplace about DashDeals - or is it a separate place entirely? See here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Commerce/Dash-Deal-Test-Program-Opportunity-for-SL-Marketplace-Merchants/ba-p/768033 It's currently a test program. Should they decide to keep it going full time, I'd imagine there will be a more direct submission process from the merchant page or something.
  9. Dems the rules I'm afraid! 16-17 restricted to General (PG) regions only. To be honest, they are rules for which you should probably be grateful too, because without them one of the following three scenarios would likely exist: 1. You wouldn't be allowed in SL at all at 16 and it would be entiely restricted to 18+. 2. You'd be stuck on a small, isolated teen grid with access to even less content and support. 3. You'd be allowed to access moderate and/or adult regions. Lawsuits would fly. SL would no longer exist. All of which I imagine you'll agree are much worse than the current situation.

(Damn disgrace how the actual fans only get 25,000 each for the final and the other 40,000 or so go to corporate bigwigs who probably don't even support the teams in the final!) P.P.S. Singing "we only score from a throw in" having scored 5 brillant goals from open play was so much fun! :smileytongue:
  11. Ishtara Rothschild wrote: That doesn't come as a surprise. Except for a handful of deluded fanboys, we've all long known that SL's heyday is over and the slow decline has begun. And no, that's not negativity and naysaying. If I say that Windows 7 or Intel's Core i7 processor will be hopelessly outdated at some point in the foreseeable future, and entirely vanish from the market during our lifetime, does that make me a doom sayer? I don't think so. It's just the way of technological progress. Sorry Ishy, gonna have to pick you up on this one because the comparision isn't exactly accurate. Will Microsoft or Intel one day die completely and be overtaken by a new dominat force in the OS and CPU markets? Possibly. I agree with you that technological progress is an unstoppable force (baring some major global disaster I suppose!) What is more likely though is that both corporations will adapt to technological progess. They have both had competitors that have attempted (with varying degrees of success) to top them off their pedestals, but they have adapted to maintain their dominance. Microsoft could have at one point felt threatened by Apple's MAC OS overtaking Windows, but the majority stuck with PC over MAC. They may have concerns about Google OS but I suspect those concerns are limited. Perhaps one day an cloud OS along the lines of what Google are attempting will be the technological norm, but I would still expect Microsoft to use their dominant force to make sure they are at the forefront if and when people are ready for that. Intel were seriously threatened by AMD a couple of years ago when AMD stole a march on them. For a while AMD processors offered a heck of a lot more bangs per buck than the aging Pentium4 based processors. Intel pulled their socks up and retook the lead with the Core2Duo range and now the Core i5 and i7 ranges though. So, if SL is seeing a decline, I'd argue it's more of a decline in the same way that Microsoft may have seen a decline in the earlier days of Apple hype. It could even get to a similar point that Intel found themselves in with a competitor stealing a march on them (although I'm yet to see any evidence of a major competitor to SL coming anywhere close to stealing a march on them!) The question becomes can LL adpat in the ways that Microsoft and Intel did to bolster their position and maintain their lead. Some would argue (myself included) that LL are attempting to do just that with a number or recent changes. Will they suceed? Only time will tell. So, while it is quite possible that any company (be they huge like Microsoft and Intel or more modest like LL) may one day lose their market dominance as technology progresses, I would also expect them to do everything in their power to adapt and maintain their position. They might experience downturns along the way but a downturn doesn't necessarily mean a terminal decline (as the Intel case proves - they went from huge dominace to fairly serious decline in the face of progress from AMD, but then completely turned it aorund again to come back stronger than ever).

George Orellana wrote: I am assuming our European friends have more experience on this matter as it is common for their ISPs to have such limits, but for us in the US we have for the most part enjoyed unlimited internet access for quite some time. So how have you, if you are in Europe dealt with bandwidth cap issues? How much time do you spend on SL? Would love to hear everyone's input. As Phil says, it's actually relatively rare for capping in the UK (not sure about the rest of Europe though). There are some ISPs in the UK who have limits, expecially on the cheaper packages. What's the competition like for ISPs in the U.S.? That's one good thing about ISPs in the UK - there is a ton of choice and if you are not happy with your ISP there are plenty more to switch to. I'm with Virgin Media in the UK myself simply because they have a fibre optic cable network. I pay a bit more for it, but it beats ADSL any day of the week and I'd recommend anyone to go with cable if they have the choice. BT are slowly rolling out their own fibre optic network (finally!) but I lost all patience with BT years ago and am much, much happier with Virgin Media. Who, incidentally, do have a cap of sorts. Not a set limit though. They just throttle back the very highest bandwidth users at peak time - which is basically the extrem P2P file shares who deserve to be throttled back in my opinion! Using SL regularly wouldn't see you throttled at all though. I've never had any problems with VM and I'm a fairly heavy internet user. Anyway - I'm not sure if any of that helps the situation for U.S. AT&T users. :smileyvery-happy: All i can say is that if fibre optic cable is an option for you in the U.S. at an affordable price you should definitely consider it.
  13. I have no other reason for posting in this thread other than to reveal something about myself and gloat slightly ... I am, in fact, a Stokie and have got a ticket to Wembley next Sunday for the FA Cup semi final. Woo Hoo! Wembley really isn't going to know what has hit it when it's turned into the same atmosphere as the Brit! WHY WHY WHY DELILAH! (P.S. If we lose to lowly Bolton, please disregard that I ever revealed that I'm a Stokie as I will deny it! :smileytongue:)
  14. What Venus said Amanda Linden has stated before that moderators are employed by LL and not resmods. There are differing opinions about this but I personally would prefer it to stay that way. Don't get me wrong - there probably are some residents who would make great mods, but I think it has the risk of creating unecessary drama. Better to keep the mods relatively "independent" to avoid any favouritism drama. (Although there are a few who still like to claim moderator favouritism anyway!)
  15. Yeah - I think Wade has pretty much got it right. It's no biggie and I don't take offence to it. For a start they put "free labor pool" in quotes making it a "for want of a better phrase" statement rather than a statement of fact. In the absence of a better phrase to describe content creators, it's pretty much spot on and it's not actually a bad thing. They are saying that the relative ease of content creation in SL and the fact the users basically create the world "for free" is what has always given SL the edge over it's major competitors. Which is pretty much true. Users create the world rather than LL having to spend money creating the world or it being restricted in some way, for which we should all be grateful! I think actually, their closing comment is very important too - "the cost to privately clone SL's "free labor pool" is out of reach". This has been the main problem competitors face and will continue to face. They can clone the functionality of SL but to clone it's "free labor pool" (i.e. it's large amount of content creators) is a lot more difficult. Other worlds do get some content creators but they are going to really have to offer some major advantage over SL to entice the same numbers as SL has. In other words, they'd have to spend some serious amount of money to create that advantage. ETA: Doh! Just realised Sitearm has responded to this effect! lol

I should have linked to my thread on how to create a badge, sorry. You should be able to save the image Keli created to your computer then upload it yourself for you badge. The guide i wrote is here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Your-Avatar/How-to-create-a-cool-forum-avatar-badge/td-p/707025 It's a bit long-winded unfortuntely (partly my fault because I'm a terrible waffler. Partly the fact that its a bit of a complicated process!) However, given that Keli has already created the image you should be able to jump to point 5 and work from there if you want to use the badge @Irene: I don't need Kudos for stating the truth, but thanks! :smileywink:

  18. Well, given that Irene has no badge and I'd hardly call her a "newb" the answer has to be 'No'! I like the badges, but purely for artistic reasons (hence I created the thread with advice on how to create one). I like seeing the creative things people have done with their badges, but I don't judge people based on if they have a badge or not. For one thing - Irene is one of my favorite people on the forums! :smileyhappy:
  19. Yeah, sadly it's not possible at the moment although LL are aware of it as a desire from some merchants and it is on their radar. I think it has lower priority than some other stuff they are working on though, such as improved boxless delivery. We may get it one day though! I'd really love that ability too. Or rather what I would really love is this: One storefront, but different departments within. So for example, someone could go to my main "Suella's Store" branded storefront and the first think they see is options to go to any of the departmetns I have set up. Click on any of those departments and they just get my listings that I have put in that department. This would give us the ability to manage things under one main store, but keep distinct listings separate rather than having stull like clothing, furniture etc all mingled in our listings.
  20. Odd! I have them: This is viewer 2.6.0, although I'm pretty sure I've always had them in previous versions of V2.
  21. Clyde Lindman wrote: Odd thing is Kirsten does it better in releases that sometimes predate the LL 'innovations'. There's nothing really 'odd' about that. The only reason for that is basically that Kirsten's viewer tends to adopt official beta code straight away before LL have officially released it into the live viewer. All you are seeing with Kirsten's viewer innovations are official innovations taken from official code that is still being tested (although Kirsten often tweaks the code to do things slightly differently)
  22. George Orellana wrote: Suella, how do you justify the fact that in Xstreet I had twice the amount of sales per month (all my avis combined) and yet experienced zero, nada, zilch amount of failed deliveries, with magic boxes placed in laggy sims, non-laggy sims, and every type of sim environment available. Yet now I have half as many sales per month (all my avis combined) and I get minimum of 5 to 10 failed deliveries per month, and each failed delivery is tied to the use of the shopping cart? How do I know the failed delivery was part of a shopping cart purchase? because the order history tells you. I can't justify it, nor would I try to. Something must be causing those problems for you. It's perfectly feasible that the cart could be part of the problem you are experience, but what I'm saying is that, based on my own observations, I simply can't see how the cart system alone is the intrinsic cause of delivery failures. I'm not exactly the worlds biggest shopaholic, but I shop enough and regularly use the cart, including the maximum of 10 items on a number of occassions. I'm not exactly setting the world on fire with my sales as a merchant either, but I sell enough to get by. I've yet to see one single failed delivery either while shopping or through my sales. I stress again - I'm not saying that in a dismissive nature to those who are experiencing delivery problems. I'm saying it to point out that the cart can't be intrinsically flawed. If it were, i'd have expected to see failures myself by now. Unless, of course, I'm the luckiest peson in the world and every else but me is having problems. Much as I'd love that (it might mean I have a chance of winning the lottery :smileyvery-happy:) I don't think I am that lucky! I want LL to make the marketplace better and I want them to make it so that delivery failures never happen (or at least don't happen 99.9% of the time) I want them to look and and address the right things though. I don't think looking at the cart alone is the right thing - I think they need to be looking at the delivery process more holistically. There's also an interesting comment from the old merchant roundtable forum by Dakota Linden here which adds a whole new dimension. (whcih hopefully you can read - its now in the archive and is hopefully readable by all) - http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Merchants-roundtable-issues/I-FIGURED-IT-OUT/td-p/433693/page/2#M10334 She gives some interesting background into the delivery process and, of particular importance to this topic is the following comment from Dakota: "There is one really big thing to keep in mind though. Delivery issues on the new Marketplace are less than .5% of all sales. The Xstreet Marketplace had a 1% failed delivery rate. The biggest difference between the two? Volume. The sheer number of sales through the new Marketplace drawfs anything that was ever seen on the old Xstreet SL web site. So the new Marketplace has a better delivery rate than the old Xstreet Marketplace." That was written near the end of November last year, so things could have changed, but the suggestion is that back then delivery failures had decreased since the advent of the new Marketplace. However, because the number of sales on the new marketplace vastly increased compared to Xstreet, delivery failures appeared more prominent simply because there are so many more transactions going on. I have no idea what the actual figures are, but lets say for the sake of argument that Xsteet had 1000 sales a day and the new marketplace has 10,000. One percent of 1000 would be 10. So that would be 10 people a day who had delivery failures. 0.5% of 10,000 would be 50. So that's 50 people a day experiencing delivery problems. So the reason why it appears that delivery failures are a major problem with lots of people experiencing them could be a result of vastly more people using the new marketplace even though in percentage terms, the failure rate has gone down. Of course, none of that actual means the problem should be ignored. 50 failures a day is still bad even if there are 9,950 successful ones. So LL still need to be investigating and trying to make the failure rate 0.01%, but I want them to look at the big picture rather than concentrating on one small factor in the chain like the cart system which, in my opinion, is a great feature that makes shopping a heck of a lot easier.
  23. Imnotgoing Sideways wrote: I'm yet to understand the purpose for the shopping cart at all. (>_<) Retail websites have a shopping cart function to avoid multiple charge fees by the credit card banks and to consolidate entire orders into one shipping arrangement. (=_=) With the Marketplace being in a L$ economy and no physical shipping at all, it's little more than a waste of clicks. (=_=) Marketplace purchases requiring more than the click of a single button is simply bad UI design. (>_<) Just playing devil's advocate for a moment but, by the same logic, if you want to buy 10 items isn't it better to be able to buy then with a couple of clicks rather than 10 individual clicks. Wouldn't having to buy them with 10 individual clicks be "a waste of clicks" too? There is still the 'buy now' option for people who just want to buy a single item, but the cart option is great if you are buying lots in one go. I will agree though that for both options there is perhaps a click too many. As far as failed deliveries as a result of using the cart, all I can say is that I've probably used the cart somwhere in the region of 50 times since it's inception. I've never had a single failed delivery! Now, I know some people do have failed deliveries and I'm in no way trying to rub it in! I am however saying that, in my experience, there is not intrinsically a problem with the cart itself. The fact that we often see people taking about failed deliveries is, I suspect, more to do with the fact that people are using the marketplace and the cart more. The reason for the failure probably lies in one of the factors that have always caused failures, such as lag on the sim where the delivering Magic Box is, for example. If someone is using the cart to buy ten items they potentially have as much chance of seeing a failed delivery as they did over 10 different purchases when just "buying now". I suspect the cart is having the desired effect in that it is encouraging people to buy more - it's just that in buying more people are potentially likely to see a failed delivery more often! That doesn't mean that LL shouldn't work to eliminate failed deliveries altogether though! It's just that I don't personally see the cart as a direct cause of failed deliveries and the work needs to be concentrated on the delivery process itself (which is hopefully happening as LL seem to be slowly moving closer to the promised aim of a direct inventory to inventory transfer system for marketplace purchases )

I have always wondered who they are and how did they get to do the job (not that I would be willing to apply though! :smileywink:) I don't know exactly who they are, but I know that Amanda has stated on a couple of occassions that they are people specifically employed by LL (so not volunteers and not resmods). If I remember rightly, I also believe there were listings for moderators posted on LL's job opportunities page a while ago, so I assume they were emplyed as a result of that.
  25. Are you a mamber of those groups yourself? In some cases you won't see the full group membership unless you are yourself a member of the group. You can test by joining one of the groups and then checking the group membership list.
