  1. Could you not just put the landing point on a platform at a lower level with a TP system up to the event itself? Not ideal I know, but if someone arrived and there was a big sign saying "click the Teleporter to TP to the event" it would probably be ok.
  2. Ciaran Laval wrote: I'll be frank, I didn't bother much with SL Answers on the old forum because I despised the points system, I dislike the ranks system even more so I'm even less likely to participate. Slight sidetrack but, while I'm not a big fan of things like points, ranks, kudos etc either, I'm not going to let it stop me from answering a question if I happen to know the answer and I hope it doesn't stop you either. You have some good knowledge to share (Shut it, and just take the compliment! :smileytongue: ) I mean - I wouldn't expect you to religiously sit answering qurestions or anything but, if you happen to spot a question that you know the answer to there's no harm in answering it I guess there will basically be three sorts of people who use Answers: 1. Those who use it to 'play the game' in an attempt to gain status (I don't particularly like that it promotes that sort of attitude but, as long as people still provide quality answers, It's ok I guess). 2. Those who spend a lot of time answering questions simply because they are great, helpful people (such as the Irene's and the Nyll's of our world who did exactly that in the old SL Answers). 3. Those who just answer questions in passing as they see them. There's nothing wrong with being in category 3 (which I'd probably put myself in too) - the important thing is to provide accurate answers if you happen to know the answer
  3. Thanks Lexie - that explains it nicely One more quick question actually (that may be a slightly touchy subject! lol) but should we assume that KB articles should be, as a general rule, based on the official Viewer 2 way of doing things? I note that a few articles still describe the 1.23 way of doing things which may need updating (although I appreciate its probably an ongoing task to update all of the information from the original Wiki and I know that Torley has been slowly but surely updating things like his videos and guides for V2)
  4. Hoping one of you lovely Lindens read this and can answer :) Can you please clarify the purpose of the 'comments' section on Knowledge Base articles. I was just looking at a particular article and noticed that some additional info was missing so I added it as a comment. See here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Avatar-attachments/ta-p/700031 Am I using the comments section correctly? Also - are people who have rights to edit Knowledge Base articles checking the comments for things like this? People may post additional info in the comments that perhaps should be included in the main article itself, so it might be useful for them to be checked? Or, if we think something should be added to an article, should we be contacting one of you directly / posting it as a suggestion here in the feedback forums / raising it at a User Group? Thanks!

Not really sure if this comments section is the right place to add things like this but ... Just wanted to add that if you use a Viewer with the latest 2.xx code you can also have multiple attachments on a single attachment point (in other words you could, for example, wear more than one thing on the skull attachment point which might allow you to more easily wear hair and a hat). To use multiple attachments in a compatible viewer you need wear one item on a particular attachment point then, to add additional items to that attachment point, right click the additional item from your inventory and choose 'Add'. Note that compatible viewers also have a similar option for wearing multiple clothing layes that works in the same way (wear one clothing layer than choose 'Add' via right click to add additional layers). Not sure if there is a separate Knowledge Base article detailing this but, if there is and I find it, I'll link it here too :)
  6. I think this shoudl be the feed for all blogs: http://community.secondlife.com/secondlife/rss/Category?category.id=Blogs
  7. Check your order history too to see if it says it has been delivered or not: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/orders Your best bet though, as others have said, is to contact the seller. Most will be understanding and help you sort the delivery problem out See more on delivery problems from the Knowledge Base here too: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Shopping-in-the-Marketplace/ta-p/700195#Support_for_shoppers
  8. I don't know much about Macs, but there is a little more to the system requirements than just Processor and OS. Have you checked the full system requirements here (graphics card?) http://secondlife.com/support/system-requirements/
  9. There are a variety of legitimate reasons why LL may put an account on hold. These included investigating possible fraud, dealing with possible phished or stolen accounts, failure to make payments due etc. https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Why_is_my_account_on_hold Investigating such issues may or may not take some time. The best you can do is contact support (as you have done) and wait for the issue to be investigated. I won't disagree that LL need to investigate these issues more swiftly than they sometimes seem to do, but you should have at least got an email from them confirming the administrative hold (check your spam folder in case its beeen filtered there).
  10. Mercedes Avon wrote: Testing :-)) Anyone know if there is a way to only show your first name instead of the full name? I notice some people look to only have first names (and not just 'resident' peeps). As far as I am aware, our profile names here are tied to our SL account names, so those of us with 'old style' firstname and lastname will have both shown here. Anyone who just has a single name here must be using a new single name account.

Do you object to being made to go shopping for cheese as one of your duties? 4. Do you object to being made to feed your employer cheese while she sits on her lazy arse pretending to actually do some work? 5. Do you object to your employer smearing cream cheese all over your naked body and licking it off? Actually, scratch that question - it's not PG! (Do you though?!) 6. Can you provided two references from eminent cheese makers? 7. Please provide previous education and emplyment histrory (Qualifications form a leading cheese school and emplyment at a cheese making company will help your aplication!)

Derek just PM'd me to ask about the limits - I don't actually know, but what i can say is that when I was messing about yesterday I had 20 or so images at one point. I would like to think that its unlimited (or at least very high) given that any image we upload to a post or anything is stored there. If we are regularly posting images to posts (be they fun ones or helpful screenshots etc) it could soon fill up! On the subject of the OP - yeah, any image you upload will be shown in your profile but, to be honest, if you are uploading a pic to these forums its kinda implied that you intend to use the image somewhere here where it will be in public view. So as others have said, not a good place to be storing pics of your naked bum and stuff! :smileytongue: You can also mark them private as others ahve said but again, I wouldn't really use this as a source for storing private photos! I'd probably just use the 'private' flag as a means to temporarily hide photos you are not using etc.
  13. I've been posting here using Chrome without issue, so I don't think the issue is specific to Chrome itself.
  14. The 'Ideas' feature is a feature offered by the Lithium system that I don't believe LL are going to use. This Lithium software is designed with a whole host of community type features in mind, one of which is the 'ideas' feature. I'm not 100% sure how that feature works (you could probably find more on the Lithium website if you are really interested) but anyway - I don't belive LL are going to use this feature.
  15. When you say your account is age verified, do you mean you went through the verification process whereby you have to provide something like your passport number for verification, or are you account authorised by virtue of having payment information used? It sounds to me like you might be verified through having payment info used which will get you to most adult land. However, there is a small set of landowners who have chosen to additional restrict their land to "age verified only" which means you can only access if you have done the full age verification process. If you haven't already try age verifying here: https://secondlife.com/my/account/verification.php?lang=en-US If you are having problems using your information here to age verify you may need to contact support to age verify manually. Raise a support ticket here if that is the case: https://support.secondlife.com/contact-support/ There is also lots more about age verification in the knowledgebase here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Age-verification/ta-p/700021

Details of the ranks and roles are here and you can progress up the ranks depending on your activity here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/help/faqpage/faq-category-id/ranksroles#ranksroles .... I was so hoping you found a different FAQ than the one I had already posted in the 6th response to this thread, but I suppose it is good that you reposted it, given your status as "Advisor". People who DO pay attention to titles are, I suppose, more likely to accept information from an Advisor than a mere Honored Resident. /sighs and leaves. Really, all that reputation management engines do is impoverish sites like this. People who are potentially helpful notice that they are being ignored in favor of ubiquitous 'answerers', and take themselves elsewhere. Um - ok. See, you are actually highlighting right there the problem with ranks and it's precisely the reason why I don't really like them. No-one should necessarily take my or anyone elses advice over someone else. They should judge each comment on its own merits. The problem with ranks, as I see it, is not that they cause people to ignore those of lower ranks (I don't actually belive that really happens much). The problem is that it seeds this idea of division and causes people to get upset as you did there. Thats why I don't like ranks - it's the undercurrent of division they create, even if that division is not really there in reality. It's really sad if you feel you were 'ignored' but if you start to feel like that you are never going to feel happy in any forum. Stuff like this happens all the time. I missed that you had already posted that link. That happens all the time. Sometimes people are posting basically the same answer at the same time. It's no biggie. Don't fret over it. Just keep posting helpful comments and advice and if someone else posts the same advice just shrug it off - it' happens all the time. Most importantly of all though - just ignore the ranks. Pretend they don't even exist and just judge people on what they say and do and hope that others judge you in the same way
  17. I've told you - I'm a master at still managing to slip cheese references in even when on topic. It's an art! :smileyvery-happy: :smileytongue:
  18. Dnali Anabuki wrote: Will there be a way to keep this from dominating the recent posts results? Otherwise a lot of good info will be lost do to pictures of cheese. Now, you know I agree with you Dnali, but don't diss the cheese! It is a fair point though about off-topic discussions dominating recent post results. I guess it's good that LL have created this off-topic forum as at least now no-one can accuse them of not listening. I just hope they don't let it become a dumping ground for flamefests and drama. I don't have a problem with an off-topic area if its a place for fun, interesting discussion or even heated debates etc. I do fear it runs into danger of seemingly giving the ok for some of the worst of what occured previously in the old GD. Don't get me wrong - I enjoyed a lot of the stuff in the old GD. I also detested some of the stuff that went on there. I guess we'll just see what plays out in practice. I do hope they enforce the guidelines effectively. From what little of the moderation I have seen so far, I actually think they are doing a better job (we need to see how that continues over time though). And no, that absolutely doesn't mean censorship or anything else - it simply means moderating to maintain a sensible level of respect and common decency in the forums
  19. Well now, lets just hope they don't regret this decision and lets hope they haven't just created a dumping ground for flamewars! :smileyindifferent: P.S. CHEESE
  20. I don't know for certain, but I think that they might have given people who were previously relatively active on the old forums the 'honoured resident' rank (yes I'm spelling it the UK way! ) They have also given some other people different ranks based on activity in the old forums. For example they apparently think I'm an advisor (which is very flattering given that I mostly advise about cheese ) Irene has got a 'Helper' rank (which is right given her endless work in the old SL Answers) Details of the ranks and roles are here and you can progress up the ranks depending on your activity here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/help/faqpage/faq-category-id/ranksroles#ranksroles (which is apparently based on an algorithm that has more to it than simply number of posts) Personally though, I'm largely ignoring the ranks. I prefer to judge people on the quality of what they say and do and I ask people to judge me the same way rather than what is written as my 'rank'.
  21. Oh also - are question askers prompted by email or PM to mark a question as answered periodically? I know some may see this as spammy, but I've also noticed that we already have lots of questions that have been answered but not marked as such and it tends to make the unanswered questions section seem messy.
  22. I've been thinking lots about the layout of Answers and the way it works trying to get my head around what I think the main problem is and a possible solution. Hopefully you'll read this Lexie - bear with me while I try to explain Ok so, at the moment we can 'answer' a question. The latest 'answer' goes to the top in the display. We can also only 'comment' on someone else's answer and these 'comments' are hideen by default. To see them you have to click on the 'comments' link at the bottom of the 'answer'. Firstly let me say that I do fully understand the theory behind this process. As I understand it the theory is to make the Answers section very much about answers and not about discussions. It's about making it easy for the person who asked the question easily get to the right answer, and for any subsequent readers to also quickly get to the right answer. It's a sensible desire and one I approve of - the Answers section should indeed be about getting to the right answer swiftly. However, I don't think it quite works that way in practice. By having the latest 'answer' float to the top and by hiding 'comments' by default, the thread becomes quite confused and, in a lot of cases, I actually think it makes it harder to get to the right answer quickly. Let me try to give some examples: Lexie asks the question: "How do I add a forum avatar here?" Irene answers: "Upload the image you want, then go to 'Avatar' under 'My Settings' to set it as your avatar. Suella answrs: "In addition to what Irene said, you can also play around with your badge settings under 'Social Connect' and use that as an avatar image of sorts too". However, because of the nature in which latest answers are floated to the top, it appears like this: Lexie - "How do I add a forum avatar here?" Suella - "In addition to what Irene said, you can also play around with your badge settings under 'Social Connect' and use that as an avatar image of sorts too" Irene - "Upload the image you want, then go to 'Avatar' under 'My Settings' to set it as your avatar. That just seems confusing to me as when 'Lexie' comes along to look at answers she sees my reply first and then thinks "Huh? Where's what Irene said?!" She has to scroll on to see that (this gtes more confusing the more people who have answered). So maybe what Suella should have done is added a comment to Irene's answer. This way Lexie would just see Irenes (correct) answer but could read the comment from me for additional info. However, becuase the comments are hidden by default its quite easy to overlook them and Lexie may well have missed the additional info. I know I have been in the dilemma of whether to comment on an existing answer or to add another direct answer. Part of me wants to do the right thing and add a comment to an existing answer, but part of me wants to add a new direct answer because I think its important additional info that the OP may overlook if I just add a comment. Essentially, it is the non-linear nature of Answers that I think is confusing. I understand its desire to get to the right answer quickly, but all to often correct answers result from the flow of discussion with people bouncing commets off one another. I know that this could cause Answers to go off topic but, in that respect, I do think Jive did a slightly better job. It allowed a flow of comments to get to the right answer and the right answer could still subsequently be easily found via the green border around the correct answer. I'm not sure what the solution is because I see the logic in both approaches. I do feel though that a balance between the two approaches is somehow required. Perhaps a more linear approach could be adopted with comments displayed by default, but in smaller font below the main answer it was commenting on? And perhaps once a question has been marker as answered that correct answer could then be floated to the top?
  23. Medhue Simoni wrote: So, not only are some open and some not, but some that are not also have open 1's. Sorry, but I'm a bit confused. Maybe it's just me, but I don't understand why the User Groups are causing confusion. There is a bi-monthly Marketplace User Group that is open to all. Go to the User Groups page here and look for the Marketplace entry for details including times and location: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User_Groups If you use Google Calendar with Gmail its also dead easy to import the calandar from the bottom of that page to your own calendar. You can then keep track of upcoming User Groups and even set up alerts for yourself to remind you to attend. All the groups shown in that calendar are public groups that you just go along and attend if you want to. You can also find specific detail on the Marketplace User Groups, including upcoming agendas and past transcripts from here: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Marketplace_User_Group In addition to that, the Marketplace Team are also holding some periodic groups which I'm referring to as 'Focus Groups' (I wish they would refer to them like this too really as it makes the distinction clearer between those and the main public User Groups!) These 'focus groups' are a select smaller group of people to discuss and throw around ideas and feedback on a particular, focussed topic. Think of it in much the same way as many companies run focus groups. For example - imagine Coca Cola are about to release a new cheese flavoured coke ( ) - they would prbably get together a small group of their customers to do some taste tests and get feedback etc prior to releasing it to the general public. This is all that the Marketplace 'focus groups' are as I see them. Brooke did promise that she would provide an easy mechanism for people to express an interest in upcoming 'focus groups'. I'm not sure whether she has done this yet (does anyone else know?). If and when this mechanism is in place, sign up for anything you are interested in giving feedback on. Brooke has also stated that she intends to rotate the participants in these 'focus groups' as much as possible so don't expect to be able to attend them all (which is only fair - it gives everyone a chance to be involved while still ensuring that some focussed feedback can be achieved). In addition to involving those who have expressed an interest, they are also inviting specific people who they think will have a strong input into a particular topic based on their activity in the Marketplace / economic factors etc. I don't have an issue with this either even if it means I would be excluded. I'd rather, for example, have someone giving feedback on delivery issues who has a high turnover and hundreds of deliveries per day so that they can cleary give accurate feedback.
  24. You know I've always agreed with you on this Irene (and still do). However, I've come to a decision that I'm not going to bother pushing and debating this anymore. My reasoning is because I think that when we keep debating it we just make it more of an issue which tends to give people an excuse to start using it as a reson to attack others. If I had my way I'd remove all such markers and allow everyone to be judged solely on the quality of what they say and do rather than some relatively arbritrary marker. It looks like they are here to stay though so, rather than let myself get bogged down in debating them, I've decided the best thing for me to do is to just pay them no heed. I'll judge people on what they say and do and I want everyone to judge me on what I say and do too. The 'ranks' may be there, but I certainly won't judge someone because of their 'rank' and I hope others work on the same logic too. If we all just ignored them they wouldn't even be an issue, so I've decided that's exactly what I'm going to do

It's fairly comprehensive although I don't think it covers every single feature.
