Removing worn items such as HUDs can occasionally make a difference, but even that doesn't always work. And yet...if you just log off and then back on again specifying that you want to log in at your required sim...that works ! So, howcome logging out and in again works, yet the system can't just spare one that trouble and do the equivalent jiggery pokery in the background and get one from A to B ? Perhaps there could be some special function that kicks in on more than two TP attempts. I suspect this doesn't require hiring rocket scientists. When you teleport your information has to be handed from one simulator to another within a set, fairly short period of time so that your avatar isn't caught in limbo. Taking HUD's off can help because it reduces the amount of information sent. Logging into a region can be done in a much more leisurely way. It's similar to running a relay race - nobody drops the baton at the start of the first leg, but during the race itself baton handoffs get messed up fairly frequently even though the act of passing a small aluminum pipe from one person to another doesn't seem difficult.

Can Anyone Please Help me? I dont know how much more i can take . Thank you. Sounds like you were last wearing something that became corrupted in the inventory for some reason. If you open the "Current Outfit" folder in your inventory it may show a broken link. If you go to the "Library" part of the inventory and put on any of the default avatars you should be able to at least rezz and then you can try to find out what the problem item was.

Often by less than an inch or two - which is so outside the norm of anatomy that it can be visually stunning when seen in real life. I'm glad you admit that science isn't opinion. Science will tell you that a Second Life "shape" is a set of numerical values that will warp a crudely-made digital polygon mesh into a configuration that may resemble a fairly realistic human, a non-realistic humanoid, or anything else that the parameters can produce. Whether any given configuration is "good" or "bad" IS opinion though. Why should being disproportionate be any "worse" than, say, having ears borrowed from another species or portraying an ethnic group one isn't actually in real life?
  4. As far as I know, the only way something can "follow" in a teleport is if it's attached to your avatar.

Any violation by you of the terms of this Section may result in immediate termination of your Accounts without any refund or other compensation. When read in full context, it seems to be contradictory to Section 6.3 (iv) Post, display or transmit any Content that is explicitly sexual, intensely violent or otherwise designated as Adult under our Maturity ratings, except as set forth in those ratings. Is it just a mistake that they removed the Maturity ratings bit from 6.1 vi ? I completely understand keeping "Adult" activity in Adult-rated sims, but 6.1 vi reads as if it bans it, regardless of Maturity rating. 6.1 is general and applies to all LL apps unless otherwise noted, 6.3 is specific to Second Life and mentions the maturity ratings.

WolfBaginski Bearsfoot wrote: And I am seeing an OK transatlantic connectionm but serious problems building up nearer DFW Some of the lost packets I've had reported on my internet connection would be old enough to vote by now. Why is it that I lose more packets talking to SL than I do to the whole rest of the planet? I had a better connection than this in the days of dial-up modems. I do tests. I have a good connection. But every time I contact support they tell me it's my fault. I'm not the one changing the [redacted[ software every [redacted[ week. If this is customer service in modern corporate America, no wonder there are death threats. Because the communication with the rest of the world is almost all one-way. You're only uploading a handful of bytes every so often when you change a web page or fill out a form. SL, on the other hand, needs you to update your location constantly and, with pre-SSA, you had to upload textures that are a lot bigger than you'd think. ADSL sells you on their downoad speeds but and they hope you don't pay much attention to their upload speed or quality because most people will never realize how bad it is. Like I said before, this past week I saw my connection problems disappear simply by moving somewhere with better internet service.
  9. I noticed something very interesting about the tracert hops - it looks like above.net uses standard airport identification codes for their hubs. The codes are (intentionally) very distinctive and they seem to be following the logical path from Europe to Texas. The Cyclone RollerCoaster and the Wonder Wheel are near perfect replicas of what these great/historic rides represent in RL. And yes, they are functioning rides in SL. I tp'd for a look the other day. Here's my question. My little niece is visiting from the west coast. She is 13 1/2 now and what a lovely, mature girl. She asked her uncle, me, to take her to Coney Island this coming weekend. It is unfortunate that I will not be able to accomodate her request as I have several prior engagements that I need to satisfy. I feel poorly about rejecting her, but then I had an idea. Should I bring her in-world to the Coney Island build? Although it is on a 'mature' sim, I noticed several topless men and very not-so-clad women that barely covered their Lola's. I did not mind at all, but is this the right message I want for my niece? Just suppose someone griefs the sim with flying genitalia or something like that -- we have all witnessed this rude behavior in SL. Although, as I stated above she is a very mature girl; she is a young girl nonetheless. Does a child belong anywhere near SL? When I was in high school I knew a 14-year-old girl who told me of the bet she had with her friend about who would be the first of them to have sex with a teacher. Bear in mind this was 30 years ago in small-town "Reagan America." I'm not saying your niece does anything of the kind -- but -- she may well know someone who does. In any event she's not going to see anything shocking. Ahh, but that's not how people see things on the forums, of course. Unfortunately I can't link to the video I always think of when I hear forumites talking about the dangers of teenagers on SL -- Henry J. Waternoose roaring: There's nothing more TOXIC than a HUMAN CHILD!!!
  15. My guess: To use shadows you need to enable a setting called in various viewers "Lighting and Shadows," "Deferred Rendering" or "Advanced Lighting Model" (it's the same thing with any of these names). I'm assuming that you had it enabled in the LL viewer and Niran's and Exodus probably would enable it as well. Singularity and Firestorm, on the other hand, may not turn it on by default for your machine. I know, for instance, that a certain project manager at Firestorm isn't a fan of this mode and has resisted the viewer turning it on by default in the past. Possibly your crashing is because of having the advanced lighting option on combined with AMD beta drivers. It's usually a safe assumption that AMD OpenGL drivers are the culprit in a wide variety of problems, up to and including sunspots or crop failure.

WolfBaginski Bearsfoot wrote: It looks like an Internet problem somewhere in the USA, so I am not going to blame you too much, but I don't think it gets you off the hook for the consistently bad sim crossing I have seen for the last couple of weeks. I saw your post in the server release thread about crossing region borders north and south in the area of "Moose" and tried it myself - I had similar problems to you on Thursday, but I was well aware that the internet connection and router where I was staying at the time were marginal. When I returned home on Sunday I tested the same route with the same airplane but with an internet connection and modem that were adequate but by no means spectacular and I had no problems at all.

Think about it. If you open every faucet in the house you won't get decent water pressure out of any of them. You were opening so many connections at once that Second Life, which uses a lot of them itself, didn't have enough resources. And my reference was to your saying, "Support always says the user was at fault." In this case your problem was fixed entirely on your end - therefore...
  18. If you go with land instead of a Linden home, the land isn't COMPLETELY free - you need to pay for it up front but after that the land tier is included in your membership fees. The simplest way to find land is to open the World Map and turn on "Show land sales." Land for sale will be highlighted in yellow and will generally show its price if you click on it. The sad truth is, though, if it's in a "cool and popular" area it will probably be pretty expensive up front, just like in RL. Waterfront areas and lots in Bay City are most expensive and after that older regions and sometimes locations on roads, etc. You can find a lot of abandoned land for sale for L$1 per square meter and there are private sellers selling it for even less.

  20. Temporary uploads were always an unsupported trick that used a side effect of the old avatar baking system. With the new server-side baking system this trick isn't available anymore on regions that have server-side appearance enabled (currently Magnum and LeTigre regions.) You can still use them on other regions but they will probably be gone there too in a few weeks. The alternatives are either to use local textures (ones on your computer which only you can see) or use the Beta grid for free uploads.

  22. There's no "aging" system built into SL like there is in things like The Sims. If you want to have a different-looking avatar you need to buy, build or somehow acquire the new look separately.
  23. Any time you try to use a poseball ("dot"), it will ask for permission to animate your avatar the first time you use it. There will be a notification in the upper-right corner of your screen. If you don't notice it at first the notification will shrink into a picture of an envelope - click on the envelope and allow the animation to take place. If you don't your avatar will just play the regular sit animation. Since the notifications shrink it's easy to forget about these notifications, especially if you're new. I think that's what's happening with you. Dark blue/light blue and werewolf/vampire mean nothing to the permission system - you're probably just seeing coincidence at work..
  24. Intoxicate wrote: I know all of this. The person I was responding to was suggesting that my system hair could be the cause of an issue that I posted about in another, separate topic, I was responding to that. Anyway, I logged in using a different viewer and found a prim attachment in front of the teeth, that had an invisibility script running. So thank you for letting me know that invisiprims don't work in advanced lighting, that explains a thing or two. What I still don't understand is why an invisiprim would cause such a distortion with advanced lighting, but -only- after an alpha was added to the same area. As I showed in the 1st post, even with advanced lighting enabled, only the invisiprim was affected. It wasn't until after I put the alpha on that it caused the distortion. Is it possible that the combination of the invisiprim with the alpha is the cause of this? Invisiprims were basically a bug which proved useful for certain things so the bug was tolerated for quite a while - alpha layers were meant to replace them. The bug that allowed invisiprims was removed for advanced lighting. It was kept in for Famous Original Lighting to reduce the BAWWW level their complete disabling would have caused. Transparent textures that are in front of each other frequently cause strange effects in a variety of 3D computer graphics applications - it's more noticeable in Second LIfe because other applications tend to be controlled environments put together by professionals so the problems can be hidden.

Whatever got broken, please revert. For the peanut gallery, no, it's not my connections or computers (I've tried multiple tested connections and multiple computers,) but thanks for playing. The peanut gallery giggles to itself, wondering how Linden Lab can revert something that didn't change: the roll only affected 10% of the grid and actually took place the day before the "problem" happened. Then they go teleporting all over without problems.
