My computer system is Windows Vista Model: s5150t Rating: 4.0 Processor: Intel® Core2 Duo CPU E7500 @ 2.93GHz 2.94GHz Memory (RAM): 8.00 GB System Type: 64-Bit Operating System What card would be best with my system? I wouldn't spend a lot of money for a card for that system. It looks like you've got a slimline case which probably doesn't have a very strong power supply and may not be able to take most off-the-shelf upgraded power supplies - you'll need a "TFX" sized power supply. It's going to be difficult to get the juice necessary to run much more than a Nvidia GT 640, which is a decent mid-range card (I own one).
  2. By your reference to the "bridge" I assume you're using Firestorm. There have been a number of reports of people with missing inventory when using Firestorm having normal loading with other viewers. Some of them have been helped by re-creating the bridge in Firestorm (which it sounds like you've tried.) Try re-creating the bridge again on a sim that allows scripts and make sure you're not hiding the "Library" in your inventory. Again, this loading issue hasn't been happening for the same people with other viewers.

WolfIceStorm wrote: both my mate and myself have identical systems, from the very make and model of laptop down to the processor speed {and number of proccessors}, everything is the same and yet she can have her distance draw rate at two twenty eight, her particles at five twelve, mesh viewing at medium to high, and view high details in the terrain and still maintain a twenty frame per second rate......for whatever the rhym or reason, there is obviously something that is working for her that it is not for me Then the logical thing to do is to compare her setup with yours and determine where it differs. Do you use the same viewer? Have either of you tweaked debug settings? What other applications are you running at the same time? Also, you previously said your goal for draw distance was first "288" then "228." Neither of these are standard draw distance steps. Are you sure she isn't actually set at 128, which IS a typical draw distance step and would improve performance quite a bit?

What's even more weird to me, is that the movement was visible even while the wrinkles and flare sliders were set to zero (i think they're zero by default). Apparently this is one in a long list of bugs that LL considers to be not important atm I believe that "Avatar Cloth" is no longer a part of the new "Advanced Lighting Model" rendering. There's minor BAWWW about its removal but I don't imagine anyone breaking their backs putting it back in. There was also BAWWW over the fact that you can no longer set things so that Linden Trees move in the "wind." (In other words, Linden Trees once could flop around wildly as if they were in a hurricane while all other plants and objects on the same lots stood steadfast as tin soldiers.)

I just installed the latest ll viewer on 07/21/2013 and it worked until the server upgrade relatively well. after the server upgrade my sim ping time as showed in the statistics window got increasingly worse. it over 49000ms:( until finally starting saturday night I no longer was able to stay logged in for more than a few seconds. I don't receive any error messages. I am logged in for a few seconds after which I am told that the region might be experiencing difficulties and that I am being disconnected. during the short interval that I am connected the statistics window inside the viewer shows ping sim time of 10000ms or over. it fluctuates heavily. imo the first poster showed a lot of attitude(calling insult wouldn't be far from the truth) while at least I tried to be civil and make a joke out of it:) Rex - I know you always used Viewer 1.23 before. Current viewers do far more with HTTP connections than the old UDP connections and many older routers don't handle multiple HTTP connections well. Many European users have DNS issues with newer viewers too, which are often fixed by using the public Google DNS. I also remember you had very similar issues at one of the meetings months ago when nobody else was having problems. Try callling up the debug console in the viewer (Ctrl-Shift-4) and see if it gives you a slew of complaints about connection failures and lost packets. So, in otherwords, although I won't call your internet connection "crappy"... Well... For purposes of SL.... Theresa Tennyson whispers, "It is."
  6. Uninstalling the Beta probably won't help you though - the release viewer is simply the formally released version of the previous beta. What you're describing is a common problem with Intel graphics on Windows 8. I think I heard it's fixed with more recent video drivers drivers; also you can try going into "Preferences" - "Graphics" - "Advanced" and turning off "Basic Shaders." You can also download the previous version of the viewer and re-install it but you'll eventually run into a point where you need to update for some reason or other so it isn't a permanent fix.
  7. WolfIceStorm wrote: Now then. There is two laptops and before into their specs, i want to say the only settings i am looking to use is the draw rate set to 288, have the particle settings at 512, and mesh objects set to high, {all others to medium} and MAYBE have the terrain set to high and still walk around with a 12 frame per second rate.....which i can get in the premium sandbox {due to not having that many items in there to make it video intensive}. By "draw rate" do you mean "draw DISTANCE"? If so, you just can't have it that high on your computer. You're asking your video system to do nine times the work it would at 96 meters. Nothing else you can do will come close to compensating for that.
  8. Deltango Vale wrote: Crudely, £10 = US$15 = 12 euros. The separate UK price was introduced about a year ago. Before that, UK residents paid in euros. CCP does not add tax to these prices; the tax is included in the price. Yes, the euro price is slightly out of line with UK and US prices, but it has more to do with choosing a psychological price-point base (9.99 v 14.99, one or the other) and fluctuating exchange rates than deliberate price discrimination. I believe CCP anticipated that the euro would approach parity with the US dollar (which it is slowly doing). In which case, I understand why they would have left the euro price unchanged (because it would fall in line with US and UK prices). The goal is broad uniformity, not price discrimination. My understanding of the VAT laws is that prices HAVE to include VAT - it can't be listed separately by law. So basically, it sure looks like the white knights of Iceland are doing exactly the same thing the evil trolls of San Francisco are doing - charging Europeans about 20% more in order to recover the money they're losing by needing to include VAT in their prices, like any prudently-run business would.
  9. What viewer are you using and what "console" are you referring to?
  10. Tray Guisse wrote: There are some things that can be done to minimize the time and number of lines is prints on screen. However, this still dose not prevent a text wall from comming up when a person spams a chat channel, quite annoying when building. This is a case of Don't need it, Don't use it, Don't want it. I there a place in the code to just flat disable this annoyance? If you use a viewer with the CHUI interface you can turn your notifications for local chat to "None" in Preferences and then close the chat console. Local chat will still be stored in the console but you won't see it.
  11. Ayesha Askham wrote: Eric Are you sure that the Main Server sim you were travelling into was running 13.07.12.278519, because that is not the current Main Server version. If the sim you were entering WAS running that version I'd not be surprised if you encountered problems, because I'd say that sim had not rolled. That being so it is likely that there were serious issues with that sim and a call to support is advisable. The current Main Server software is 13.07.19.278836, so there must be some problem there! 13.07.19.278836 says it's scheduled for July 30th - it's the code that will be rolled next Tuesday. The version currently running is 13.07.12.278519
  12. I'm willing to bet you've got an ATI/AMD graphics card. Most Windows games use DirectX for the graphics language but because SL is multi-platform and open source it uses OpenGL. ATI OpenGL drivers are notoriously bad. People with similar problems to yours were helped by going into "Preferences" - "Graphics" - "Advanced" - "Hardware" and disabling 'Use OpenGL VBO's." I haven't heard too many people complaining about that lately though so it may be fixed by a combination of newer viewers and drivers. Many people find that viewers since 3.5.0 for the LL viewer or 4.4 for Firestorm are significantly faster also.

"testing testing" What could cause that??? I'm using firestorm. Could it be the viewer or is it something in SL? Someone else on the forums had a similar problem and traced it to a swim HUD he was wearing. The HUD captured words that it used as commands like "dive." You may be wearing an attachment that's doing the same thing.
  15. Sy Beck wrote: Madelaine McMasters wrote: ETA: For states in which LL has a physical presence, they would generally be obligated to collect the state sales tax at time of purchase. That would be added as a line item in the invoice and so not absorbed by LL. LL simply acts as the collection and transfer agent for the sales tax. There are some states that require any out of state business doing business with residents of their state to collect and transfer sales tax, and there have been efforts to establish that requirement as a matter of federal law, but it would not be the federal government collecting taxes, as there is no federal sales tax to collect. Re. bolded, So why don't they? Or why aren't people in those states complaining that they are being taxed when people in other states aren't? Or are LL just absorbing the cost? Maddy was explaining how things would work IF THEY WERE SELLING GOODS INSTEAD OF SERVICES. Let's say they start selling SL mousepads along with regions. If they sold someone in California the use of a region for $295 and a mousepad for $5.00 the total bill would be in the neighborhood of $300.41 - $295 for the region, $5.00 for the mousepad and $0.41 for sales tax ON THE MOUSEPAD AND ONLY THE MOUSEPAD. The $0.41 would be listed separately. If they were selling the same package to Maddy her bill would be $300 even. She would, in theory, then be expected to send the state of Wisconsin $0.28 in tax for the purchase of the mousepad. Also, in the US businesses serve strictly as tax collectors when it comes to sales tax - they're legally obligated to collect it but it's the consumer who actually pays. Businesses actually can MAKE money by collecting taxes because states give them a rebate to pay for the collection service. There's a court action in Pennsylvania because if you use a "two-for-one" coupon at Wal-Mart there they'll only charge you the price of one item but they collect sales tax for the sale of two.
  16. Sy Beck wrote: Do you pay sales tax for your SL use? If not who's absorbing it? And if they [LL] are absorbing it for you why are they not for everybody else? There's nothing to absorb - it's a service instead of a product, therefore not subject to sales tax in any US state that I'm familiar with.
  17. Sy Beck wrote: Gawd this ol' chestnut again. OK basic European argument is this... US sales tax is already built into LL's pricing. Therefore, Europeans are paying a US sales tax that they are not liable for and on top of that have to pay their own countries VAT (the equivalent of sales tax) , which they are liable for. The argument has been had many times and it's sadly lost. That's why (I think) there are no land barons who are not US, but I would be happy to be proved wrong and know that somebody's found a way to compete. How so? There's no "US sales tax" levied on a national level. There are national excise taxes on a handful of items like alcohol, tobacco and gasoline but they don't apply to anything SL related that I know of. Sales taxes are strictly a state or local tax and are invoiced separately instead of being included in the purchase price. A European buying something in a US state that's subject to sales tax would be liable for that tax the same way that a person from a neighboring US state would. In a situation where a purchaser in one state makes a purchase by mail or Internet from a business in another state, the purchaser is expected to pay the tax rate of their home state instead of the tax rate of the state where that business is. Mail or online businesses only collect sales taxes if they have a physical presence in the state where the purchaser is - otherwise the purchaser is expected to pay the sales tax on the remote purchase with their state tax returns (not that the average person ever DOES, mind you.) (If you think all that's confusing, do NOT, I repeat do NOT, move to Missouri. The city I live in not only has a higher sales tax than the rest of the state, it VARIES DEPENDING ON WHAT PART OF THE CITY YOU'RE IN.) Finally, sales taxes are almost never levied on services, only on the purchases of physical goods. I don't see how any of the base tier fee could be considered a tax that non-US citizens wouldn't be liable for.
  18. Intoxicate wrote: There are plenty of companies who provide support to their customers whether they pay a monthly fee or not, I've already named one and they just so happen to be comparable to SL. All of the companies we buy items from irl, have support systems, whether it be the grocery store where you buy your food, or wacom where many people buy their graphics tablets, or samsung where we buy an array of things from phones to TVs to computer monitors. ALL of those companies have support services and none of them will shove you away because a monthly fee isn't being paid. Yes money is spent in these examples but they don't impose a recurring fee just for you to talk to someone. Yes time costs money, I'm fully aware of that. But just because people are basic users doesn't mean that they don't spend money on SL, so I'm not really seeing where the 'free' comes in. We don't know what the OP's problem WAS. For many everyday issues with SL the combined knowledge of the forum posters is probably higher than anyone in SL support and INFINITELY higher than someone sitting in a call center in Bangalore reading off of a script, which is the level of support you get from many companies selling products worth hundreds of dollars.
  19. Ayesha Askham wrote: It is specious and not a little insulting to the Firestorm developers to suggest that any features that they incorporate in any way negatively affect the performance of the prim rezzing. Any impact, as is reported above, is beneficial not negative. I wasn't aware that the Firestorm developers were infallible beings working in a sphere of pure light cupped in the hands of God. That may come as news to at least some of them too. I no longer seem to have missing prim problems that I notice and I use Viewer 3, others do and use Firestorm. It would be logical to wonder if any differences in the viewers might be the cause of this.
  20. Ayesha Askham wrote: Theresa We have known for some weeks, thanks to Simon Linden's openness about the Interest List changes in server code, that the issue was only truly fixable viewer-side, but that code must surely have been made available to TPVs a while ago. It still occurs on Firestorm 4.4.2, which is the latest codebase released, so I do not understand - are you really saying that this is fixed in Linden Lab's own viewer but that the code has not been released to TPV developers? If so, that is a most disturbing scenario. The code has been released and TPV's have it but they also have various additional rendering options like object blacklists, progressive draw distance, etc. that may not be completely compatible with the fix. That's why I was asking about progressive draw distance.
  21. Trin1 wrote: It's a cache issue? How does that explain it happening in places you've never been before? I used to see that happen in new places too but usually only with the prim I was standing on when I arrived with a teleport. Anyway, I haven't seen it happening lately. Just curious - is anyone who's still seeing it using "progressive draw distance"? It always seemed to be caused by prims that were half in and half out of your field of view when you arrived at a location.
  22. Domitan Redenblack wrote: When is Linden Labs going to fix the "missing prims" problem? After you tp, many prims are "logically" there but not visible in viewers. If you right-click where the prim should be, or go to wireframe view then back, you can restore their visibility, but JEEZ why don't the fix it? It used to work just fine. That's a viewer problem having to do with the cache and it's been fixed for months in the Viewer 3.

You cancel your account, then develop a burning desire to re-open it three weeks later? And you also apparently chose a security question answer that you either messed up or can't remember? Common sense DOES seem to be in short supply these days.
  24. If you're referring to the notice in the corner of the login screen, that goes out to everyone. Viewer 3.6.1 is all you need so you can ignore it.

I am running out of prims and I am not sure what is hogging so many prims - by my own calculations I should still have some left. In "About land" I can only get a list of owners - not very useful, I own nearly everything on the parcel. But I probably have some hoggers I do not realize I have. Is there any way to view a list of objects on th eparcel and how many prims they use? Thanks! Assuming you've got a patfinding-supporting viewer, try going into "Build" - "Pathfinding" - "Edit Linksets." You should see a pretty complete list there. I did not know about that pathfinding linkset list. I tried it and it found all six of my prims. Plus owned by others on other parcels in the region. Then if I flew to the next region it listed five items. In a 3rd sim it listed nothing. When my alt tries it he sees four of my six items. So that's a puzzle. So - I'm happy that it seems to show me my stuff but I'm really very confused about what it's showing me. The WIKI provided a couple pages that didn't clear things up. Like - why do I see five items from other parcels on my list and not everything on the other parcels? And if I'm not getting everything on the other parcels am I getting everything on my parcel? You see everything you have the rights to edit in some way - i.e. all your items and all the items shared with your group, AND all items that are set to "Everyone can move." A surprising number of people have a few items on their land that are set to "Anyone can move," probably without realizing it.
