  1. I think the lack of popularity of the fantasy theme shows the lack of imagination for many of the people who have Linden Homes. You do need to be able to create something besides real life decor for a house, ideas like Nika mentioned above. I was disappointed when I first saw the size of the houses because there was not much space outside for gardens, so I decided to make the inside of the house into a garden and cover the outside with vines and crystals, so it blended into the landscape. Sometimes we need to abandon pre-conceived ideas and go with what the landscaping and houses tell us to do! I love the theme and it has inspired me to be more imaginative with my SL decorating.
  2. Perhaps this explains why there are not many people posting on the SL forums. When well written comments comparing SL to RL get deleted and many of the ones that are allowed to remain are people complaining and demanding action the forums get quite tedious and meaningless. Time to move on.
  3. It does say "new homes" not "new themes" so perhaps the houseboat updates announced just a few minutes ago are the new homes?
  4. A hopefully helpful hint - you may want to try a more positive sounding name if you wish to attract less toxic people. Try raising your own vibration and it will be easier to attract more positive people. I spent the 80's out in the woods living off the grid, listening to folk music, and avoiding popular culture - so probably not the sort of person you are looking for
  5. Here is a link to a blog post about a beautiful region that used terraforming and textures on the land to set the mood and not use many prims. The region is no longer there, but there are some good photos in the blog post. https://modemworld.me/2019/05/12/the-wilderness-of-killary-in-second-life/
  6. There is so much you can do with terraforming and textures when you have a homestead and the ability to adjust both! I like to make lots of hills and mountains in the distance and by using a good texture no other landscaping is needed in that area. The textures by Vita are great for this, they are 1024 but they minimize the need for lots of additional landscaping, so I think they are worth it. Many of the Vita textures do look best on ground that is not flat because of the repeats, but it is fun to terraform to accent the details in the textures. It can be frustrating to have a specific idea in mind and try to make it look like a certain preconceived plan, so I like to let the land tell me what to do. Another thing I have seen people do with a homestead is to make a smaller island surrounded by lots of water if you like landscapes very full of plants and a big over decorated house. You could check out the destination guide under the photogenic and nature and parks categories, or whatever else you're interested in. Visit different regions and compare the landscaping on the full regions to the ones on homesteads and get lots of ideas. I find I like the homesteads better because there is less to rez so I do not need to wait a long time to be able to look around! If it is in your budget, you could try renting a homestead for a week and see if you enjoy the terraforming and texturing. Sometimes I rent one for a week or two just so I can make mountains My problem is that I enjoy the terraforming and texturing so much that I never finish and keep redoing it so I can terraform more.
  7. Yes! All the gory Halloween stuff helps me to avoid events and sales and save up funds for the end of November
  8. Another forum reader here who appreciates this thread staying open, though I can understand Abnor's frustration. I hope he understands that a few entitled whiners do not speak for the majority. And I hope sailing people realize this sub forum and thread are about Linden Homes - not How Much More Should LL Do for the Sailing Community.
  9. Was your rent for the quarter homestead at L$1700-2400 for a month or for a week?
  10. As it has been pointed out repeatedly on this thread, the Premium Plus package is not worth it for any one of the benefits. It is the combination of multiple benefits that make it worth the additional cost. It is for people who can see beyond their own one need or want.
  11. Thank you for the great pictures, Trinity! I have been looking at pictures for ideas and like these. There are a couple other styles of Japanese decor I have been researching - one is Wabi Sabi, a more rustic and worn look, but also minimalist. 8f8 on the black kite region has 3 collections available that are great examples of some wabi sabi and Asian decor. Kawaii is another contemporary Japanese style, the culture of cuteness - Half Deer has lots of Kawaii cuteness in their store.
  12. Maybe it is just the way the system is set up? It does make it more difficult to move a house from one account to another.
  13. Or it means there was another one in maintenance that you were not watching and that theme did not show up when there was only one in maintenance.
  14. Has anyone ever had an alt get so annoyed about not being logged in anymore that you can't get the grumpy look off her face? My favorite alt seems to be really upset with me and I am not sure what to do about it.
  15. I am interested in others opinions of what niche Second Life occupies and why is it not more mainstream. Still trying to decide if I belong here...
  16. I must have misunderstood your earlier comment because it sounded like you were referring to the adult continent as the dark corner.
  17. Excuse me if sponsored was not the best word, but Merriam Webster has a definition of sponsor as ": a person or an organization that pays for or plans and carries out a project or activity" . They are "Linden Homes" built by people paid by LL and the house is anchored on Linden protected land, plus they have a covenant written by employees of Linden Lab.
  18. While not opposed to the idea of adult rated Linden Homes I can understand how they could be a governance headache for LL. Can anyone else see the irony in people complaining about being hidden away in a corner while at the same time requesting their own Linden sponsored corner? Because an adult rated area would need to be separate from the moderate regions or else what is the point?
  19. Then "discrete" would need to be defined for people.....
  20. To me they look like the modern houses in Seattle neighborhoods where the old quaint bungalows are demolished and new blocky buildings are being built. Except in Seattle the houses are much closer together. People were wanting modern and that is what they got, why is there so much whining? Seems like people want a 2 million dollar house on a 200K budget.
  21. The past two years there have been releases in December! Victorians in 2019 and Stilts in 2020. They have been wonderful Christmas presents
  22. Nothing is keeping the kink community out of the current Linden Homes, read Abnor's posts.
  23. Perhaps the reason there are not adult rated Linden homes is because Linden Lab is trying to have Second Life be something more than just a place for people to act out their kink fantasies. Keeping Linden created areas as moderate rated helps to promote that concept and make it more welcoming to people with other interests. If LL were to start providing adult rated Linden Homes that would further advance the commonly held belief that Second Life is just an online platform for adult activities.
  24. The ideas of having the top of the page bookmark and and adblocker work okay and I have both - EXCEPT when logging out and in on a different account like Prok mentioned. With a bit of practice I can click quickly enough to get past the login in page before getting that bright blue flash searing my retinas. I will attempt some of the other techniques mentioned and see if they work when logging out and back in on a different account. I wonder how many potential new customers have been turned away because of that bright blue flash? It probably doesn't bother the young gamer types, but if Linden Lab wants to attract more customers who will actually pay money to fund premium accounts and buy land they really should rethink that bright blue flashing video.
  25. Think of the inside as a blank canvas on which to add your own interpretation of fantasy! Whether it be dark medieval with stone and rustic furniture or light and airy with twinkling vines and sparkling flowers and grass for a carpet, it is the details we add that can make the houses feel magical.
