  1. All over Second Life there are people who not only spend a lot of their own time and effort to create activities, events and places for people to visit but also need to spend their own funds to pay tier or rent for the land to use. Recently I learned they are also expected to monitor their land 24/7 to prevent any TOS violations from occurring. So please excuse them for getting upset when some groups get land to use at no cost for "the good of the community"
  2. Your Royal Highness, how many regions does LL give you when you want to sponsor a party?
  3. From this very long thread it appears the general consensus expressed by a vocal minority of SL users is that it is okay for a platform best known for its adult content to allow child and underage avatars. The increasing number of younger and younger appearing avatars, many who claim they are over 18, does seem to indicate that Linden Lab has no issues with ***play on their platform, regardless of what some well hidden TOS says. It is my hope that people at Linden Lab do realize there may still be people with different opinions that do not post on this forum because they do not appreciate being dismissed as pearl clutching puritanical prudes, or some combination of those put-downs. People who have issues with the presence of underage appearing avatars in an adult platform will simply leave or never stay for long after initial sign-up. Not all problems with user retention are related to technical issues.
  4. Before you ask "What about my first amendment rights?" In 1973, the Supreme Court ruled that the First Amendment right to free speech does not include “obscene” language and material (Miller v. California, 413 U.S. 15 (1973)). The PROTECT Act specifically and purposefully includes the word “obscene,” so that visual depictions of child pornography cannot be protected under the First Amendment.
  5. try doing an online search with those terms, I found this: "Can you be prosecuted for cartoon pornography? On Behalf of Kirsch Daskas Law Group | Jul 22, 2020 | Criminal Defense | If you are a fan of Japanese manga cartoons, you know some of it is of a highly sexual or erotic nature. Still, it’s just a cartoon, right? Not necessarily — at least, not in the eyes of the law. US Federal law has a specific section of its obscenity laws to address this. Section 1466A deals with “Obscene visual representations of the sexual abuse of children.” It specifies that: “Drawings, cartoons, or paintings that appear to depict minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct are deemed obscene.” You could face between five and 20 years in prison for a first-time offense if found guilty of producing, possessing, sharing or receiving such material. You may think you are safe because the images in your comics are not of children. However, federal prosecutors may try to argue they are. They may try to convince a judge that the big eyes and certain other features standard when drawing females in manga cartoons appear to be depicting minors. Whether this is sufficient to suggest you are guilty of child pornography charges is a different matter altogether. US citizens have gone to prison because of Japanese cartoons. In 2012 one serious anime collector chose to plea bargain and took a six-month sentence rather than risk years in jail. The authorities prosecuted him over physical comics, but they have charged others over the cartoon images on their laptops. If facing these federal criminal charges, you must seek urgent legal counsel. Being convicted could land you on the sex offender register, as well as in prison." https://kdlawgroup.com/blog/2020/07/can-you-be-prosecuted-for-cartoon-pornography/
  6. It is not possible to discuss this topic in a non-hypothetical way without discussing current political events in RL. I do wish the OP could see that his support of certain people in RL could lead to such a scenario.
  7. Those who enjoy and promote divisiveness by dividing people into groups Those who wish people would look for common interests and similarities
  8. Question about definitions - would it be "prudish" or "puritanical" to not allow things that are illegal in RL to appear on their servers? Like slavery, prostitution, certain activities with underage avatars - I bet the OP could add more to the list... When I tried to find definitions for prudish and puritanical, both mentioned a strong moral code. Apparently that is looked at with disdain around here.
  9. I am forwarding this idea to someone I know well in both RL and SL!
  10. You could try the ones called "Potted Connie" in the content pack and unlink them from the pot to set in the ground.
  11. This is my favorite Linden Home theme so far! I love the houses and the landscaping and like quite a lot of the homes I've rolled. It is going to be a difficult decision to keep only one!
  12. This! My theory is that most of the clothes in SL are designed for guys to buy for the favorite woman in their life - their female avatar.
  13. The adult activities that keep the lights on in SL are also what keeps SL from expanding its user base. Instead of trying to attract a younger use base, why doesn't LL try to attract more people who are in the process of growing older - SL is a place where we can live the old saying "wouldn't it be great to be young again and know what I know now".
  14. Perhaps the reason hetero men are less likely to be friends with other men in SL than in RL is because SL is perceived by many as a place for adult activities. Or maybe the men who do like socializing are the ones with female avatars.
  15. Thank you for your replies, I am familiar with full perm mesh and the fact that many people use similar or identical full perm mesh templates. What alerted me about the items I mentioned was not just the mesh, but the textures on the mesh - that is why I referred to them as exact copies. Both items I noticed had a distinctive texture on the mesh from well know SL creators who do not sell full perm items. Plus, the suspicious items in the build when inspected separately showed the seller of the build to be the creator of the mesh, and they had left the pieces set to full perm. To follow up, I did contact the two creators and heard back from one of them with a thank you because she found the seller of the build in question had illegally copied at least seven of her items. So she is now filing a DMCA with Linden Lab. I never heard back from the other creator; maybe he made the same assumptions as the commentors above - that I did not know what I was talking about
  16. Not sure if this is the correct place for this topic, but I am wondering what to do about a build I found on sale. It was quite inexpensive and when I looked at it in person I thought I recognized some of the pieces as non-full perm items from a couple of my favorite creators. Being a curious person I purchased the build to check out the suspicious looking pieces and sure enough, there were pieces of the build that are exact copies of items in my inventory that are NOT full perm. My question is - what should I do about this? I feel like I have now participated in something rather sketchy just buying it. Should I report it to Linden Lab or the creators of copied items?
  17. Do you have a pick in your profile that was made while you were on your land? If so, it could have a link to your parcel at the bottom of the pick under Location. A friend once made a pick on her profile while in my house and I had several visitors rez in on that spot!
  18. Tried that before - but was told I could only request a parcel that was along an existing boundary line.
  19. The price for this parcel is reduced to L$ 19,000 until Sunday April 16th, after that the price will go back up to L$25,000. There are 4251 prims on this 12,384 square meter parcel, 1643 are used for the current landscaping with 2608 prims left for you to finish and add your own details, or start over. The current items may stay as long as you leave the auto return in the objects tab set to 0, but ownership of the items will not transfer. There is room on the top level where the elf house is now for a large house of about 60 x 40+ meters, I left the elf house because it is easy to return if you wish to leave the landscaping and use your own house. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Muir/32/186/51
  20. It is good if they changed that! But not sure if I dare to test it intentionally, but probably will someday by mistake...
  21. Perhaps the confusion is not about whether someone is using the word rent or tier, but about the fact that LL charges for tier in increments, not for the exact amount owned. If you own 15,360 square meters you will pay tier to LL for 16384, whether you are using the extra 1024 or not. The premium allotment of 1024 sq meters is in addition to the level of tier paid to LL. Unless the extra 1024 was donated to a land group then it could not be used for rent in a private region. And remember if you leave some of your land and the amount owned goes below 8192m then you need to manually adjust your tier level, it is not done automatically. I got caught on that more than once until I figured it out.
  22. Perhaps those who have to point out that LL is not making homes the way they do in England could start their own British version of SL so they can make sure things are done quite properly. I doubt Patch and the moles would miss the not-so helpful commentary.
  23. I think the lack of popularity of the fantasy theme shows the lack of imagination for many of the people who have Linden Homes. You do need to be able to create something besides real life decor for a house, ideas like Nika mentioned above. I was disappointed when I first saw the size of the houses because there was not much space outside for gardens, so I decided to make the inside of the house into a garden and cover the outside with vines and crystals, so it blended into the landscape. Sometimes we need to abandon pre-conceived ideas and go with what the landscaping and houses tell us to do! I love the theme and it has inspired me to be more imaginative with my SL decorating.
