  1. There are and always have been plenty of land speculators in SL, they bring nothing of value, lock up huge swathes of property and force prices every upwards as they try to improve their ROI. This behavior hurts SL. It's notable that none of the land investment virtual worlds have active populations. Partly why Belli has been so successful, it separates the act of owning of land from those wishing to profit from land Adding minecraft style voxels to SL would be a great, don't let the primitive chunky style distract you from the amazing things that can be done with them. https://www.wired.com/story/best-minecraft-builds/
  2. I honestly think it's time we let this die. Sure, it's not a traditional video game with things to do, monsters to kill and resources to compete over. But loudly declaring "SL IS NOT" is broadly unhelpful, no one has ever had their interest peaked or gotten excited to hear what something isn't. It begs the question "WHAT IS SL" that's invariably followed by confusing vague nonsense that leaves no one any the wiser. It's no wonder LL famously have no idea what this mess is or why any of us continue to use it, and that confusion taints everything it touches. If people want to see SL as a social video game, sure thing, good for them, someone tell LL and we can get on with moving the platform forward with a defined purpose in mind.
  3. Yes, you very much are. Amazon is a juggernaut that's devastating real world and online retail in ways Walmart could only ever dream.
  4. I think the "SL is for grown-ups" angle is a mistake, it's patronizing, demeaning and absolutely the last thing we want to be associated with. "Video games are for children and SL isn't a video game" is a really great way to alienate an entire generation of users we actually need if we plan to keep the lights on in an ever more crowded marketplace. SL and VW in general are not for "serious work". They have never been for "serious work" and they never will be. Nobody is doing serious work in VR or VW. We've leant the hard way that's a wet dream who's only appeal is to management types chasing a sweet (non existent) B2B pay check. This marketing lead approach dooms everything it touches and needs to be stamped out, it's poisonous corporate koolaid. Sure, let Meta waste years trying this VR/VW nonsense, but let's not miss the opportunity to point out how idiotic is it and define this platform as the place where we're having none of it. If LL management thought SL was a video game (even though it isn't) we and SL as a platform would be a whole lot better off, at least then there would be clear direction and easily understood business model that could drive many of the changes we want to see. A more responsive world with better interactivity? YES PLEASE.
  5. The value is in the marketing not whatever is constructed in the virtual world. Big company opens new thing in meta's whatever this is !! Then it will get abandoned and left to rot, same as they did with SL.
  6. There is a bug where some meshes wont rez till you right click on them, clearing cache is a workaround but not a fix. Just relogging can also solve the problem. It's something we have noticed, but absence of repeatability makes it almost impossible to actually debug
  7. I would very much like the ability for playback speed, priority (etc etc etc) to be overridden by script.
  8. They only really impact those who can be chastened and reconstructed. Traits I would argue make someone more valuable to our little society as a whole.
  9. Are we really served by them returning on unknown & disposable accounts? Are we really believing that a permaban applies literally and identically to everyone? The only people I've known who stayed banned were those who truly felt an attachment to their accounts and fought LL to get them reinstated, often continuing to pay LL service fees for months before giving up and moving on (even when in the end the ban was lifted).
  10. I don't want to get into the details, but it's a fairly safe assumption that the resourceful can always find a way back, the worst of the worst never really left. If anything a permaban just lowers future stakes and increases the motivation to cause trouble. The banned return with less investment (because they know it's all forfeit) and vengeful. An annual pardon would increase the stakes, retaining the investment in an account and provide a legitimate way to reenter SL, perhaps a little wiser. A new year and a second chance.
  11. I would like LL to do something very much in the spirit of the season, a time for forgiveness and peace. Repeal all permabans.
  12. Shrike Linden has responded to (and closed) the JIRA issue I raised (https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-231482) Mystery resolved.
  13. This is as problem of context. It's not impossible for the viewer to rough up a simple body and with a little math prevent limbs from intersecting (the code to make it not look janky in motion would be more complicated) .. BUTT 🍑 .. the viewer has no idea if an animation is supposed to be clipping into itself or not. So while it might work fine for a load of use cases, it will break a whole mess of content where that clipping is desirable or even essential. Vehicle riding poses, animations that repurpose rarely used bones (extra legs etc) and tinies spring to mind, although it would probably impact enough general use animations to make it pointless. Don't worry, I'm bringing the poop train.
  14. SL water comes with a major performance hit and you want more complicated water?!
  15. I have coloring books. I rarely start them in case one less than perfect picture ruins the entire thing .. like notebooks & sketchbooks, love them .. but that first page needs to be really good or it's all junk.
  16. It beautifully illustrates the complete disconnect between upper management and the product at hand.
  17. https://danielvoyager.wordpress.com/2016/03/05/latif-khalifa-has-passed-away-developer-of-the-radegast-metaverse-client-singularity-viewer-and-replex-viewer/ Latif passed away in 2016, he is deeply missed.
  18. Most YT creators income comes from patreon and baked in sponsorships, if they have the later, really don't need loose sleep over supporting them.
