  1. I got that too. It went away after the last Firestorm update.
  2. Every forum got a new Guideline Post yesterday. Sheesh! Did we really need that? Are we really that bad? I've given up mainland because LL won't put in any rules, so maybe I'm going to give up the forums because they have too many!
  3. ZUKERBLOB, his name is ZUKERBLOB. He came from hell (or was it California, I can never remember) specifically to destroy the human race.
  4. Linden Lab is an American company. That explains everything. Even their TV companies allow violent gun-loaded programming during prime-time, but you need a password to watch anything vaguely sexual. Nuts. But you will not beat it, so stop trying.
  5. It's a mistake to think that just buying a skin, even an overpriced one, will give you a realistic skin, IMO. The best way to do it, again IMO, is find a base skin that you like and then add BoM features - like freckles, blemishes, spots, and other features, in different densities, yourself. That way you will be almost unique. If you do it this way the base skin need not be expensive.
  6. Market Place seems to be effectively down ("under heavy load" = our computer is old and slow and you lot don't matter much anyway), but there is noting in the SL Status page. What's up?
  7. I have upgraded several accounts for a month, so that I could buy them new names, and then I downgraded them. Never had any bother. The issues come if you claim your land tier, then you can't down-grade until you abandon or sell your land. I am interested to see what happens to my partner's land. They died (well, last heard of going to ER with low O2 and Covid) in the pandemic last year, so their annual payment will fail I assume. LL probably will keep the land as is for some period of grace, send emails to a mailbox that no one looks at, or where the mail bounces, and eventually reclaim the land. How long will that all take? I drop by every day to see - a bit macabre really.
  8. There was a British engineer in the 1940's, Tommy Flowers, who discovered that if you got a Thermionic Valve (I think there is an American word, but I forget it) Computer working, and never turn it off (and on), it kept going almost forever. Valve's were replaced by transistors in the 1950/60s, because valves were 'unreliable' (Flower's work was subject to Official Secrets Act). That's Tommy Flowers who built the first stored program computer, and didn't get the publicity that Turing, and of course the Americans, did. Maybe we need to stop power cycling the little buggers.
  9. Hmmm? So I need to plan to replace my nVidia 1070 soonish then. Scary.
  10. Interesting that you talk about 'useful life', I wasn't aware that electronics got old by use. Can you point to info on that? I sort of thought that computers got slower because the software got more complex...
  11. Arch linux got the latest nVidia 515.57 into 'testing' now. This fixed these issues for me. I don't like running 'testing' stuff, but in this case not having ALM was bugging me a lot.
  12. You can de-render the thing that is offending you. Even if it is not on your land.
  13. Gee, I blink, check the Forum, and 18 pages on this one boring topic. I wonder what you all said?
  14. Ya, Arch is a bit cutting edge. Kernel 5.18.3 and nVidia 515.48.07. I think Ubuntu would call it 5.15.
  15. @Jenna Huntsmanwhere did you find that out? I searched everywhere before I posted here. And THANK YOU!
  16. I've started, in the last two weeks I think, to see very strange effects with the Advanced Lighting Model. In some regions I get stripes on every surface, and in others I get items flashing on and off as I change my view. I have not seen anyone else reporting this, and wondered if it was just my set-up. I am running Firestorm on Archlinux, which is pretty cutting-edge, but I checked with the Official Viewer and got the same effect. My hardware uses a nVidia GTX 1070ti GPU with a Ryzen 2700x and 32Gb of memory. All the issues go if I switch ALM off. Does anyone have any ideas for fixing or researching?
  17. There are some great videos about it. Starting:
  18. One of the best investments I ever made in SL was to get an Inventory Manager (I use CTS Wardrobe with the optional Archive). I have spent endless hours of fun making getting dressed as easy as possible using the provided tools. It's utterly pointless in the end, but soothing, and like all great hobbies, a perfect waste of time.
  19. Is there anything in the updates, I hesitate to say upgrades, that would put a mesh of lines on surfaces? Parallel on flat, and curved to conform on curved. It follows the camera. About half the regions I've visited today.
  20. You might also consider this at L$200, it's good, but a true pain to set up. Alpha 911
  21. I quite agree about UV maps, the one-arm-ness and one-hand/one-foot-ness in particular. I'll try the Cinn & Chai again and start with their shapes - I had to do that when I moved to LeLutka. ...and some people think Philip Rosedale coming back is good.... (it's all HIS fault )
  22. So the answer is that you can't store a folder in an object, but you can write a script to recreate a folder structure from the contents of an object. Cool, I'll work on that. Thanks everyone.
  23. I tried dragging a folder into an object, an the contents of the folder arrived, but not the folder structure. Is there any way round this? I'm looking at ways to preserve a folder structure.
