  1. ... I read 'TW@N' phonetically. Completely lost the plot before it had even began.
  2. Yeeah. Should I also review pizzas with bananas on them, even though I have no intention of ever buying a pizza with bananas on it for myself? Or insulin injectors? Tampons? Pacemakers? Toddler socks? Consecrated wafers? What I wrote had very little to do with the particular bodies themselves, and all the more to do with the anti-progress attitude you expressed in terms of a technological development that's happening all over the grid. As surely you would have noticed if you had bothered to keep up with what I wrote.
  3. Sort of. You can't remove a skin applier from a Maitreya body. What you can do is replace it with another skin applier, or enable BOM to have the system skin 'replace' it. The only layers that you can clear are the tattoo, underwear, and clothing layers.
  4. Goodness, no. It doesn't appeal to me one bit - but that doesn't mean that my opinion is that its existence is unjustified.
  5. Then the simple answer is: this body isn't for you. You aren't the target audience, it is not designed to appeal to your opinion - the world does not revolve around you, after all. When mesh bodies began to become a thing, a lot of people were very skeptical because it felt 'too complicated', appliers, alpha HUDs, it was just too much work. Now when we've got BOM pushing all that old stuff behind, people are yet again finding themselves skeptical because it feels 'too complicated'. Neither system is at all difficult to learn, there is no shortage of resources in the forms of blogs, videos, forum posts, and the instruction notecards that tends to be included with the bodies. That there are people who are too stupid to understand and too ignorant to learn should by no means halt the technological progression of the platform or how the mainstream uses it. As far as monopolies go, alphas are hardly a hindrance - you already have several aspects of the creation sphere which are pretty much outspoken means of having that power; who to give and who not to give access to your creation kits so that they may properly rig apparel for your body, not to mention the amount of drama, intrigue and backstabbing that goes on behind the stages of everything from events to exclusivity deals between brands. The one thing most brands offer anyone for free are the UV maps, to accommodate the creation of tattoos, makeup and .. Ah, yes - alpha masks. All an alpha HUD does is grant a user the 'freedom' to hide preset parts of their body. Using an alpha masks gives you the freedom to alpha whichever of the 1,048,576 pixels of your upper or lower UV texture you want (though granted, hardly all of that is actually going to be part of the body itself). Oh and that's just either your top or your bottom UV (or .. Head. If you're -- Making something ... For .. That?). Besides, the alpha 'pie cuts' has been something of a wrench in the machinery for creators for quite some time now. Imagine you're creating a mesh shirt, and you've drawn your concept art for how the sleeve ends just there and how that creates a perfect symmetrical balance with the other cuts in your article. But when you try it on you notice that ah, it is a rather tight-fitting sleeve which, of course, ends just half-way through one of the alpha cuts for the body you've rigged it for. So if you alpha that one piece, the sleeve ends a bit before your arm does, and there's a gap - and if you don't alpha it, it clips through; especially when your arm is bent and both the meshes of the shirt and the body are deformed around the skeleton. With the alpha HUDs, you're screwed - you either adjust the design to accommodate the alpha pie cuts, or you scrap the idea; a tight-fitting shirt can only have so many set lengths of sleeve. With a custom alpha mask, your sleeve can end wherever you damned please. That's independence. That's what's going to accommodate more diversity in design, and it's not just sleeves, it's the same with legs, or where your cleavage lines go, or if you want to leave a random gap on the side of the stomach, you can do that. Alpha HUDs are as outdated as applier tattoos and 500-prim motorbikes (as in, actually built out of hundreds and hundreds of prims). Creators and consumers alike can either tag along in the progress, or they can do as a lot of people already do and refuse to make any further updates to their avatars because they were 'just perfect' the way they were when designed in 2008. That we in that process get the option to ditch a chunk of pointless scripts to make the actual SL experience a nudge less laggy, well that's just brilliant.
  6. Well, if they also disable any animations aside from the T-pose, sure. Alpha masks are super easy to make, it's not an unreasonable expectation for a clothing creator to take those extra 5 minutes and an L$10-20 upload after finishing up a piece of clothing to provide one - most creators before mesh bodies were a thing did it, and many creators are already doing so again to accommodate BOM. Should they fail to provide them, that's going to A) alienate potential customers who do not know how, alternatively can't be bothered to make their own and B) make their brand's CSRs eventually quit, probably. No matter how well fitted something is, if you have two faces that are designed to allow movement and the restriction of movement is pretty much only limited by how crazy animators get, the faces will eventually clip. In SL, where there are several limitations and the quality of rigging on average is all over the place, it's much better to just embrace alpha masks from the very start, and never forming any weird notions of ideality wherein simple solutions that have functioned perfectly fine for years and years should be discarded 'just because'. Even the most successful brands, who make the highest quality SL apparel, has occasional clipping issues under certain (by no means uncommon) circumstances if you don't use alphas.
  7. Because putting on an alpha mask also takes seconds and should be provided by clothing creators who wants people to wear their clothes when the outdated and script-demanding tech of alpha HUD cuts is discarded due to its obsolescence. Making alpha masks is pretty easy, and there's a huge selection of alphas available for next to nothing on the MP. The bodies aren't necessarily meant to be a competitor for Maitreya, with the general public in mind. The creator of the bodies is the creator behind Zooby, it caters very specifically to people who are interested in pregnancy and motherhood RP. When you create products for such a niche market, you're putting a higher amount of effort into a smaller audience, which means you'll need to charge more (and by 'need' I mean 'can' and 'probably want to') - it's just a question of specialisation.
  8. Credible enough to be the contemporary scientific explanation for the creation of the universe we can see today. To refute it out of ignorance is the flat earth thinking. But, sure, it's more likely that a divine entity popped out of nothing and then created the universe out of nothing.
  9. Wait, that's a thing? My favourite Gor-related experience thus far was when, in my early Flickr days, I checked out the profile of someone who followed me. Their portfolio was a series of snapshots taken at some Gor sim, featuring two muscle-boyos and a bunch of scantily clad ladies strewn around the lawn like confetti. In the next picture, the gentlemen had removed their clothing (what little of it there was to begin with) and whipped out their .. Those. In the next few pictures they appeared to be humping a bush whilst the women remained laying around like they had played a round of dominoes - as the dominoes. I was rather confused by the whole thing, buuut dendrophilia is supposedly a thing, so, I shouldn't judge ... And to be fair, 'tis not the weirdest Flickr has thrown at me.
  10. But did they circle around you wearing shark costumes, going 'dun dun dun dun dun dun'?
  11. Can't believe we've gotten to page 8 without anyone sharing this yet. ... And now this tune will be stuck in my head for a week. Let's hope no one starts a thread about hieroglyphics or highwaymen next.
  12. After a bit of tinkering, and a few too many L$ spent on shiny new stuff - progress! GIF 'cause, I found a suitable facial AO for her.
  13. It makes pretty much perfect sense. Except of course the Big Bang theory has never tried to explain where the universe comes from, but rather what happened in the first instant of its existence. The reason the Big Bang theory remains so prevalent is because despite gargantuan amounts of time and resources spent trying to disprove it, no one has managed to do so yet - even with an almost certain Nobel prize waiting for whoever manages to do so. The Big Bang is merely one piece of the puzzle, along with other pieces such as quantum tunneling, Einstein's theory of relativity, and inflation theory - which, combined, give us a seemingly plausible and relatively comprehensive picture of the whole 'what the hey?'.
  14. Star Wars' IP is owned by Disney. LL don't want a call from the Gestap-- I mean, Disney's legal dept.
  15. Critique and commentary is good, doomsaying on the forums where it's unlikely it'll reach the ears of the creators isn't particularly constructive though. But I'm curious, where did you learn that the heads won't support the old UV? That's contrary to the information I read in their FAQ, which states that the old UVs will be supported: Q. Does this mean that my Evolution head(s) will become obsolete? A. Absolutely no, we will still create heads under the Evolution line; as previously mentioned, this is an extension of Evolution. Q. Will I be able to use skins and content created for Evolution classic on Evolution X? A. You will be able to use any previously acquired HD Content (makeups, lipsticks, brows) in both Classic and EVO X mode. BOM (Bakes on Mesh) skins obtained before Evolution X can be used in Classic mode. Still, these WILL NOT fit the custom UV map that Evo X uses.
  16. New head. Neph 3.0. Well, 3.0 (alpha), or something. Still a work in progress!
  17. The way I interpret it, the HD layers (which are, essentially, onion layers) haven't been changed - so old HD appliers will still work. The only layer the Evo X affects is the skin layer itself. That would mean, however, that BOM freckles would need to be made for Evo X. But I may be wrong. I'll have to look at it at some point .. Not sure whether the Lilly head has/will have an Evo X update, being that it was a freebie.
  18. I expect that new body UVs would be supported if they were released for Maitreya or Legacy, or Kupra (no idea what UV they use though). Most skin makers are primarily concerned with faces, and it's already been long established that cross-brand compatibility is iffy and inaccurate, so you're already making brand-specific skins - so Lelutka changing their UV for future skins, I don't see as much of an issue. At least for as long as they still support the old ones as well (a bit like how Maitreya still has the onion layers to support old tattoos and applier apparel, for those who want to use that). I do understand if skin creators are upset because the skins they already have in stock will be 'old', and they basically have to start their portfolio for Lelutka all over again. But at the same time, if people appreciate the Evo X quality (like you!), then there will be a high demand for skins for that - just as if a whole new head had been released.
  19. Evo X isn't 'all appliers' though. Evo X's skin is BOM, the difference is that it uses a different UV map than the standard SL avatar model, to allow a higher resolution .. At least that's what their FAQ says. This does mean that 'old' Lelutka BOM skins will be mapped all weird (as we've seen examples of), and that skin makers who wants to make for the new UVs will have to get used to mapping very differently from how skins have been mapped since the start (most mesh bodies' UVs are practically made to fit the UVs released in '05). They still support the old UV as well, hence why there are 2 head versions (4, as both versions have a static ear option) - one for the old UV, and one for the new UV. You don't 'have' to change anything at present, nor do I expect Lelutka will drop support for the old UVs any time soon (probably depending on how widely and quickly creators and users embrace it, if at all). It doesn't matter what changes you make, or how beneficial those updates are to your customers - a large number of people in SL will always immediately start spewing bile and cusses at any changes that they don't comprehend and can't be bothered to inform themselves about. There are oldies to this day who refuse to touch mesh bodies or heads because 'that's too complicated, the old way is best', often because 'appliers are confusing'. When BOM came, people instead said 'I don't like BOM, I don't understand it, appliers are easy so they're better' - and, perhaps funniest of all - oldies who refused to change to mesh until just before BOM, then when BOM came, they still think it is 'confusing', despite it working practically the exact same way they'd edit their avatar a few weeks ago.
  20. Was playing around with one of those automatic online picture editors .. Didn't like the result, so I went and re-edited my pic in Gimp instead. Could use some fine tuning, especially around the hair, but, meh. Sketch!
  21. I noticed that a little while back, in one of the older Linden Home regions. 5 people TP'd in at once at the same spot, all blank profiles, all created the same day, all using starter avis, and vanished. A few moments later, another batch 'o bots popped up, same composition of made-on-the-same-day and blank profiles, same spot even (squeezed in between two properties when I cammed over to have a peek). No idea why. Traffic? Seems weird to do in a Linden Home region. Shrugs.
  22. Frequently because of ... Oh, right. Not that the history wouldn't be stuffed to the brim with conflict without it, but it's been a frequent casus belli, and if not the direct cause, it has been one of the primary authorities to accommodate it.
  23. Atoms can be split (nuclear fission) and merged (nuclear fusion) to create other elements (and, more importantly for our practical purposes, energy), and we can change the elemental properties of atoms (like, turning platinum into gold in an extremely cost-inefficient nuclear reaction: https://wtamu.edu/~cbaird/sq/2014/05/02/can-gold-be-created-from-other-elements/). What we can't do is subtract from the mass of the universe; we can never truly delete anything from existence, nor create anything out of nothing. At least not through any means known to us today. ... Side-eyes those wily Dutch suspiciously. One can love without Jesus, too. Love is older than Christianity, and the concept of love is pretty much universally included in all of the world's religions and cultures.
