  1. Ok, people don't turn on the radio in RL & SL clubs because it's boring and impersonal.
  2. A listing has to be at least 1L$ in order for the Gift function to work. That's what a lot of creators explain when asked this question. It just makes me question if they know what the word 'free' means and whether or not it's worth the hassle to copy and paste from the oxford dictionary.
  3. Elora, I think you forget that most merchants in second life are simply hobbyists, most of which don't even have a background in retail. If I venture into a boutique in real life I expect professional service and behaviour, I do however not expect this in Second Life. Most merchants lack the training, most are just winging customer service, most simply aren't made for being a merchant as they can't handle the customer heat but they love creating and playing store and that's okay. She refunded you and as Bitsy said, that should have been the end of it. You're acting like she did, just in a different way. She got overly upset about the criticism (which you conveniently left out when you posted that chat log....) and you can't let things go long after a mutual agreement (refund) had been made. Time to move on.
  4. A radio station broadcasts to a general audience. DJ's in clubs broadcast to the club goers, good DJ's will interact with said club goers and it's much easier to request songs. Why do you think RL clubs use DJ's and don't just turn on a radio station?
  5. Hey there I just want to touch up on your confusion as to why something like this would suddenly happen when things have been smooth sailing till then. Computer parts degrade over time, as does the system and software. Everything ages from the moment you start using it, sometimes a system can already be ancient before the computer is even turned on if it's been sitting in the store for over a year. There's some handy programs out there to keep your system healthy, that will clean it up and polish it, in addition make sure to not only keep your graphic card drivers up to date, mainbords and BIO's and other components need love too. Granted not so much, but there is the occassional update This is why your overclocked comp seems to have run SL just fine for a while and then starts being difficult about it. It almost always starts this way, just one programm is affected and it's hard to figure out why. People are quick to blame said programm when that's not the case. SL is very resource intensive, much more so than other 'games' so it's not surprising you're having issues running SL yet not anything else. Those other programms will eventually start acting up too though. Either way, while the overclocking might be root of the issue it causes a hardware malfunction that turns your computer off. It might be the most random thing, too. If you have one at hand or can borrow one, try another main power cable. A friend had it before that her comp was being troubleshooted high and low and no cause for her own comp turning off issue could be found until someone actually took a look not at the comp but the cable and it turned out it malfunctioned causing a power fluctuation that would turn her comp off at random times. She got a new one for a few bucks and all was well. A super easy and quick fix that no one thought off at first
  6. Eugh dangit, what did I start. I take it all back. All of it.
  7. Just came across this and gosh, made me freaking do a jig in my chair such a feel good song!
  8. So you've never gone to a merchants official site? Good on you, I go to a lot of merchants sites and their ads for their new releases are always a part of it. Even a site like strawberry singh that a lot of users frequent is nothing but advertisement for the mesh body/head they're currently showcasing. SeraphimSL is nothing but advertising for merchants, huntSL or SLhunts is nothing but advertising for the merchants. Quite interesting! Because a lot of people in turn don't go to these official sites, they'd rather stick to one news source. Works either way.
  9. Having advertising possible on the forum is exactly what would make that percentage rise. Even more so if one or more of the big time merchants decides to open up a thread and perhaps links to it on their blog and who knows, a few of those shoppers might turn out to be fun future forumites. If ads were introduced I'd strongly suspect the active forum user count to jump. Also, SL forum users might subscribe to the topic to be up to date on new releases without needing any other website. These posts wouldn't be to 'sift through' a thread of 20+ pages as you say, that's what their MP store is for.
  10. Thank you for that indepth look at how it works Phil, I really appreciate it. My point stands though, with precautions taken and rules being put in place it shouldn't create such a hefty workload that it would give anyone grey hairs. I've seen it done before on another platform's forum similar to SL years ago when I was active there. It wasn't nearly as regulated as it would be here yet nothing got out of hand, there was no drama whatsoever despite the general population being more immature than SL's. The odd out of line post simply got pulled and all was well. Having seen it work just fine I am having a hard time grasping why it wouldn't work here in an even more controlled environment I admit that.
  11. Mods are there to do their job, as far as I am aware there is no more volunteer mods so the mods we do have actually get paid, so I am not concerned with the higher workload for them. This forum is incredibly tame as is as far as mod work goes, having been a part of other official forums for a litany of games over the past decade *those* are the places I pity the mods in. You do however raise a very good point in your last paragraph! I am not sure how feaseable it would be to only allow the OP to post in a thread they'd create in the Ad section. Or perhaps incorporate the Ad section as sort of like a blog where the OP can choose to not allow comments or to have them screened. Anything would be better than LL's stance of "Literally everyone can advertise but the merchants."
  12. 1. It doesn't layer over stuff you put down, it orients itself on the ground floor. 2. Imagine it laying itself over the ground like a second skin. It doesn't need to be walkable because the ground underneath it is and you'd never even notice that there's a layer between you and the ground. It automatically lays itself over mounds, within inclines and every other uneveness the ground has. It's not perfect though so you might have to terraform here and there. 3.It's made with actual ground in mind, so if you use it on the ground level then you will not need a prim underneath anything and you will not sink in. If you however use it up in a skybox you will have to do so since only the 2nd layer is up there but not the actual ground from the ground level to support your avatar. To get a feel for it I'd recommend watching the video on the product listing. You will have to do a bit of terraforming here and there and I am not sure how well it works anywhere but the ground. You can however take the layers you made on the ground level up into the sky.
  13. You kept directly asking me what I thought of your modified suggestions as such you were actively encouraging me to give you my opinion which I did in a polite manner. If you didn't want my opinion, then why on earth did you even ask? Why quote me with a question if you did not want a honest answer? I wouldn't have posted more than my initial post, the following were made in direct response to your inquiries. If someone asks me a direct question, I find it rude not to respond. So I did. And then I get insulted by you being called rabid as well as spoken to as if I were a child. I do understand, even though english isn't my mother language I think I am quite adequate at it, it however does not make me perfect at catching all the nuances of a response. Well good Sir, you are officially a jerk.
  14. I'm sorry I have a different opinion than your own and thought I could contribute by giving reasons as to how/why they wouldn't quite work as intended if implemented? Gosh I am such a rabid animal aren't I? Don't worry, I'll not ever bother you again.
  15. The hunt is on! 292 stops, 499 eggs, 2393 hunters.. and counting! _______________________________ Consider me thoroughly intimidated!
  16. I wonder if it would be feaseable for LL to outsource it's roots to another country so they would not be affected by this.
  17. In this case you asked for an easy way for an OP to get their thread locked, if said OP AR'ed their own first post and asked for a lock of the thread for whichever reason (let's say it's a logical and good one) I don't think the forum mod would hold it against that person? Would be pretty bad if they did o.o;
  18. Exactly, those who are not interested at all in product ads would simply be able to filter them out and never be badgered by them. With the new forum update all of this is very possible. SL merchants shouldn't be forced to sign up with different websites just to get the word out about their wares, they should have a space on the SL forum. While obviously it would get the word out wider to sign up with social media sites or make a blog, it shouldn't be the only option they have. It would benefit all types of merchants new and old, big or small, it might even draw more people to the forums in general while those who do not wish to see any of it have every opportunity to opt out.
  19. I personally do not see product advertisement as spam. It would give me, as a customer a place to go to find new merchants without having to resort to an outside source such as google, facebook, flickr or any other social media site. Merchants could even be required to tag their thread with the type of wares they sell so people could see at once whether they'd be interested to open said thread or not. As long as spam topics like "5 word game" and the likes are allowed the reason for 'no more spam' to decline my suggestion simply doesn't fly. People can spam to their hearts content as it is already, you could always suggest the forum rules be changed about that. Product Ads are useful, more so than forum games anyway. They would help especially newer and smaller merchants to get the word out about their store for free. Why not give merchants that ability when Real Estates, Club Owners, Roleplayers, Venue Owners get the chance to? Seems a bit biased in my opinion on SL's part to allow these yet shut merchants out.
  20. I believe the forum would be a great tool for advertising ones products and since the creations of SL residents are such an incredibly huge part of SL I feel it's only right that they should be a part of the forum as well. Create a Merchant Ad subforum but with a few rules that would prevent spamming: - Each Merchant is confined to one thread that they can continuously post to with new releases. // This would prevent people from making a new forum topic each time they release something new - Advertisements are restricted to MP/Inworld products only. No ads for services, venues, land and so on. - Advertising is solemnly allowed in their existing thread, the reminder of the forum stays ad free and the current advertisement rules are upheld. I am not sure why this hasn't been a thing for years; Land, Venues, Events and destinations can be freely advertised but what makes SL...SL can't. Without the creations people have brought into the SL world we'd have a very dreary and drab time logging in.
  21. I don't think simply saying "You're looking for this thing? I actually made one, feel free to look me up on the MP." Would warrant the post getting deleted. You're not directly linking to your product or MP store but giving the OP the choice of looking it up themselves if they feel so inclined. Can anyone verify this theory?
  22. Because there already is an easy way. Click the report button, input why you think the thread should be locked and let the moderator decide whether the thread warrants a lock or not.
  23. I already gave you what I believe is ample reason why letting an OP choose 'when its gone far enough' isn't wise. Forums are there to promote healthy discussions but most often people get huffy and would wrangle any discussion when it doesn't go their way. They'd only allow free speech within their thread as long as they approve, if they no longer do that, they'd lock the thread. I don't think that's productive for an official and open forum. Maybe for a private one it would work but not for this one.
  24. You're very welcome. Doing 1 and then 2, so it's not just a simple flat ground is a very good thing to learn doing, it'll be a blessing if you ever feel the need to build a place for yourself in the sky. Nothing is more boring than having a completely flat ground!
  25. On the old forum in the answers section you could select a post that you deemed to have officially answered your question. This however did not close the topic. I just checked a question I posted recently and it seems they have done away with that feature now and replaced it with the upvote/downvote thing. So I don't think they'll bring that feature back since they've replaced it? Either way, I personally don't think that there's a reason to close threads unless they've devolved into a flame war. Why do you think such a feature is needed? I'm curious!
