It doesn't necessarily have to be the target group, individual or belief. in that case you'd best isolate yourself from the world, never say, write, or do anything at all, because someone, somewhere, at some point in time is likely to take offense. In terms of SL that'd mean that LL had better just close down if they don't want anything to happen that might potentially offend someone, as it's certain to happen with whatever people do. I've seen people get offended at pink clothes, supposedly it's deregatory to homosexuals. Chocolate is offensive to blacks, apparently, as is coffee (never met a black person who thinks that way, but there's enough people claiming they should be). There's people offended by any display of anything that doesn't match their religious beliefs. There's people offended by the mere sight of a piece of human (especially female) skin, whether real of imaginary. There's people offended by the very existence of music and other entertainment. There's of course people offended by commercial activity...

You can do that other games, where you are actually forced to pay to play...but premium membership doesn't include any magical promise that third party viewer (!) and your own internet connection will bring up great results, especially in an invironment made by users. I don't understand the logic. I do pay for my account. I expect that a quid pro quo does exist between me and Linden Labs. I pay. They deliver a service. On the contrary, one who doe not pay has not reason to complain, since they exchange nothing in return for any service. you mean you don't want to understand that the problem lies (mainly) not with LL but with either your network, your computer, your 3rd party viewer, and/or your internet connection. Your premium account is not going to pay for any of those.
  3. Theresa Tennyson wrote: It sounds like there are two basic possibilities: 1) You are getting not 800 kiloBYTES per second but 800 kiloBITS per second, and you have a not-very-good router. This is what I'd expect to see with DSL. 2) You actually HAVE upgraded your DSL to the point that you actually can GET the 6400 kilobits per second you say you're getting but you have a HORRIBLE router, at least in how it handles multiple HTTP connections.. If you're consistently seeing avatars not having their textures loading that's a connection issue plain and simple. Last night I was at a club with over 40 avatars and my Popular Mechanix sub-2000 kbps cable connection and $69 Wal-Mart cable modem rendered everyone in a few minutes. Turning off HTTP textures may help in the short term but more and more things are moving over to HTTP so you should try to get the problems it sounds like you're having with HTTP textures addressed. To add some to this: routers often have a maximum bandwidth at which they will function properly. If your actual supplied connection is faster than that, they start to become unreliable, dropping packages, sometimes crashing. You might check with your ISP for a new model router (I know mine will send me one for free whenever I want if I extend my contract by another year, not a bad deal as I've been with them for over a decade and see no reason to switch now). Also check your network cables. (Old) cables with sharp bends and loose connectors can cause trouble as well. If you use WiFi, make sure you have a good connection too. Sometimes neighbours on the same channel can cause so much noise that your connection (despite seeming good) is unreliable.
  4. The jungle is a great place to get inspiration for your own builds, a showcase of what can be done. And it's quiet, good place to get away from the lag that hits the more public good looking places

I am not here for some sympathy nor saying I didn't bring it on myself. Sorry it seems that way.. I just want a few places to start exploring other sites where sex isn't the main topic.. may I suggest visiting some M rated nude beaches? There's quite a few, no sex allowed. People are nice, friendly, you can chat and hang out without being pestered. For clubs, never been pestered for sex in any of them, even in adult regions and even when there naked or nearly so. But my profile doesn't hint at looking for sex, quite the opposite. If yours does, either leave or hide the responsible groups, and maybe change your profile text. Or look for a hobby that has nothing to do with A rated content whatsoever. I've taken up dog training (AI dogs, not human pets) and hang out with those people. No sex involved, heck it's PG rated sims and occasionally I get weird looks for wearing a mini skirt I still hang out in A rated sims, but have made it known there that I'm not interested in sex and the places I visit respect that. IM me in world if you want some locations (might take a while to respond of course, timezones and stuff).
  6. Syo Emerald wrote: Thats in fact something that seems to happen on every SL beach. Just because my avatar wears a bikini guys start to think I'm interested in getting into naugthy stuff with them...just because of wearing less than normal. (I can't explain that behavior in any other way). depends on the beach. There's some where "the average crowd" comes for a specific purpose, and you dropped in with other things in mind. I'm a nudist, and tend to pretty much avoid such places, haven't had anyone older than about 2 weeks in SL bugger me about sex in months. Of course having some rather explicit wording in my profile stating I'm not interested might help with the older ones who actually take the time to read profiles (there's even a group "nudity is not equal to sex", helps wonders carrying that one).
  7. Gadget Portal wrote: It doesn't matter what you do I SL, be it Slex or building or land baron-ing or DJing or roleplay, if you suddenly start doing it less, you'll have people unfriend you. I clear my list pretty regularly. Old scripting clients, former DJ contacts, sim managers, RP people, etc. Once I'm to the point of rarely or never interacting with them, they're just taking up space on my screen. correct. A lot of people are singleminded and will unfriend you if you no longer are interested in that one thing they're interested in. Slex (nice one, have to remember it) doesn't interest me much. Tried it, didn't do anything for it, no longer care. Snuggling up to someone and chatting, yay. But doesn't go beyond that for me. I've dozens of friends despite that, though I've lost contact with dozens more in large part because my online schedule has shifted dramatically over the last several months, causing me to rarely see my many Australian and Asian friends any more. I clean out my list once in a while too, as do many of us. If you don't, in time it becomes quickly unmanagable. If I've not encountered someone in a month or two (in world or chatting) with no prior reason given (like a planned long absence), I assume you're either no longer in sl or have changed your schedule as I have and our online times no longer match and I may drop you. Which might lead to people seeming to lose friends when interests drift apart. You just no longer encounter them even when online.
  8. folders containing a box with a backup copy. Best of both worlds, instant use and can store a backup without having to package it myself.
  9. Cerise Sorbet wrote: Toss a boxed backup copy in the folder, then everyone can be happy. this! I keep boxes for backup, and have at times needed one when either accidentally deleting or messing up something of which I'd forgotten to make a backup myself first. That said, I dislike store owners who just put packaged boxes in their DD outbox, smells of laziness (can somewhat understand it for those moving content from magic boxes into DD). I have land to unpack things, so don't need to go to overcrowded and often griefer struck public sandboxes, but that's not the case for many people (and oh, I've had to teach a lot of them how to unpack boxes). And please, if you do use boxes, use simple ones and set the default action properly. I'm sick and tired of 100+ prim delivery boxes that you can't even rez to open because your parcel doesn't have that many prims free, or boxes that have the default action set to pay or buy rather than open.

  11. As stated, server classes no longer exist. Land barons (especially smaller ones) however keep using it as a marketing ploy to get people to rent from them. The big established names don't need to employ such tactics and generally won't (maybe some old notecard might get parsed into an offering at times of course). Not worthy of an AR, but I'd ask myself if it's a company I want to do business with if they use it all the time or claim all their land is on "class whatever" servers.
  12. ask for transaction logs. If she can't produce those to match yours, something fishy may be going on. Or maybe she wanted to order 2 but entered a 7 by mistake (weirder things have happened). Depending on the perms and what it is, you could just refund her (I guess it's no-copy or she'd not have ordered more than one to start with).
  13. that problem is not just for SL, it's universal with Wacom tablets (and I guess all such devices). They have the same problem in the software I use at work, got annoying enough I invested another 100 Euro or so in a Steelseries gaming mouse. Looks a bit out of place on a work PC, but can't be bothered by that You might also try an Evoluent vertical mouse. They're high quality and several people I've worked with swear by them.
  14. Magika, Exxess, and Wasabi Pills are now my main sources for hair. Sirena is good as well, but appears to not be active (or at least creating) as nothing new has appeared in her store in months. Also got some good stuff from A&A and Catwa in the past, but my preferences have changed and now I no longer like their particular style. Chickie Chickie has some fun hair as well, as do many others. Never did like Truth or Amacci much

LOL i have no idea how to even start up a conversation after reading that load of buzzard puke.. 16. "Well it can and its why I encourage Linden Lab to add Requirement for RL Information on the account when signing up and keep records. " and how would they verify that RL information in a way that's both workable and doesn't violate the law? The ONLY way that can work is if everyone has to travel to LL headquarters to register in person, handing in copies of their passport and birth certificate. This would be both impractical (far too many people for them to handle), impossibly expensive (for both LL and users, for most people they'd be looking at several thousand dollars in travel expenses), and illegal (it is illegal in many countries to hand over copies of those documents to anyone, except employers and government officials). "Well the hud has IP loggers tracks alternate accounts without asking consent, " which is a TOS violation. If you have evidence, why haven't you sent in ARs? as is, you sound just full of BS and hot air.
  18. An option can be to ask trusted friends. Maybe one of them has some free tier on his account and is willing to hold on to your parcel temporarilly. E.g. someone may be paying the 16k bracket but only owns 12k at the moment, he could buy your 1k parcel without costing him a dime, and sell it back to you when you're ready for it.
  19. Tall trees along the borders can block everything from ground level, and look stunning. Create your tall buildings so they block the view towards the outside from each other. E.g. you have 2 tall buildings, put them on the outside edges of your parcel, facing each other, and with (most) windows only facing the interior of the parcel. Helps a lot. You're somewhat limited as to terraforming, but putting up a line of (lowish) hills near the edges of the parcel can help as well, and make those trees go up even higher (a 10m tall hill with a 25m tall tree on it is already 35m high, higher than most things people build in SL, higher even than most of those ugly privacy screens we all hate). So now you have your big buildings blocking the view of eyesores outside your parcel from each other, and landscaping blocking or masking things for people not inside those buildings. If you're medieval or similar, a wall or pallisade around your area can well be in theme. Of course it won't be 500m tall, 10m is more reasonable, without looking out of place to people outside your land (especially if you keep those trees as well a few meters outside of it). As to those 500m walls, that's just ugly for all the reasons mentioned already, and would cost you a lot of prims. Also, they're ugly from the inside as well (there's a reason any decently designed sim hides its border walls from view with landscaping). There are special border walls that do look decent and are designed to look like rock faces from inside and out. Might be another option.
  20. and what'd you want anyway for an avatar? A girl with a **bleep**? Just buy a **bleep** and stick it to a female avatar. A woman with small breasts and male hair? Change your shape and buy male hair. Or a female avatar with a male ao? Just buy the parts. Or maybe just a female avatar and behave a bit masculine etc. etc.
  21. TDD123 wrote: Fair enough. Does mean though that the bar you set for the laptop needs to be lowered, given your price range. For 1K expect a laptop that might get you mid settings ( or high in a very exceptional case but that would have to be a real steal ). Postpone and save the money for a better machine later, I'd say. wrong. I run SL on not one but 2 laptops (though one's now a spare now that my main desktop has been restored to life), each costing about 700 Euro including 21% VAT, so quite a bit less than $1k. Both run SL using Firestorm just fine at HIGH settings at decent performance in most places (high density sims it can get a bit slow). The newest of those is now 2 years old, the other going on 5 years old.
  22. with practices like those of OP, my first thought is always that they're hired by competitors to the person they're complaining about. And that's not idle paranoia (though I can get paranoid), I've actually experienced exactly that in the past doing customer support for a company. Our support forums were occasionally flooded with highly negative messages slagging our products, our support, and our dev team. These (and similar messages by people using the same handles elsewhere) could be traced back to IP addresses owned by a major competitor... We didn't go public (and I won't name names now) but handled it between grownups as adults should. Suffice to say the flood of negativity stopped.
  23. and that's it. Most ISPs have filters on the incoming stream in order to prevent overloading their message filters and email servers, which block things in ways that mean they never even enter the mailserver where they'd end up in a spambox. I've at times run my own mailserver and had to install such blocks to deal with DDOS attacks, someone was flooding me with identical emails with massive attachments, overloading my network and internet connection, the only way to prevent that is to bounce before receiving the actual message, so requesting only message headers and telling the upstream server to kill the message based on those. ISPs and upstream providers do the same when setting up spamfilters. As many messages from SL use generated sender addresses that look suspiciously like the autogenerated addresses used by spambots and DDOS bots, those filters will block based on those.
  24. Indeed, I have an inworldz account from when a group I'm a member of contemplated opening an inworldz presence last year. We found that total number of accounts on inworldz is less than the average number of logged in users on SL capabilities of inworldz are roughly what SL was in 2006 performance was abysmal (top was about what you'd expect from SL on a bad day) porting all our investment from over the years to inworldz would be impossible, and (because of the limitations of inwoldz) so would rebuilding there. And inworldz is afaik the biggest of the other grids.... Suffice to say we decided to stay in SL, not lose all the hundreds of friends and acquaintences we have here, not lose the investment in our avatars, land, and everything else in order to save a few percent on tier cost.
  25. bleh, now you're blaming LL for selling mainland. Few months ago people like you were blaming LL for "killing the mainland" by selling estates. Make up your mind already or just admit that you're a pathological whiner who just wants to have something to complain about. Land sales/rentals go up and down. You may not have noticed, but currently the economy is tanking in a lot of countries and has been for quite a while. That's causing a loss of income among SL residents, which means they've less money to spend on luxuries like owning land. ---------------------------------------- I've seen a LOT of great help from people all over SL, including the Lindens. I've recently taken over estate management of the place I live (together with some of the other people living there) when the owner (a very dead friend) died suddenly (RL). We were helped quickly and without problems by Lorena Chung, who transferred estate powers and ownership of the land without a fuzz. Thank you once again for that if you read this.
