  1. I've always been hiding all signatures, but for this thread I'll make an exception. Together, each for themselves! (Political party slogan.)
  2. Yes bento Where was this announced? I don't understand. How do you know that Linden Lab is adding toes to the Second Life armature? Because (i) no one else but Linden Lab can add bones to the current Second Life avatar skeleton, and (ii) I'm pretty sure the current Second Life avatar doesn't have toe bones.
  3. Is LL adding toes? The word 'toe' does not appear in the Project Bento skeleton guide: https://wiki.secondlife.com/w/index.php?title=Project_Bento_Skeleton_Guide
  4. I was of course being facetious. I guess I should have typed "C. Gaming laptop or perfectly capable laptop designed to do actual work with very similar hardware to gaming laptops". Oh, darn, I'm being facetious again.
  5. I guess I left laptop computers out of the equation. Unless they're gaming laptops, they'll always be the least suitable platform for SL, no matter how new they are. Perhaps the survey should have included an extra question: Which computer are you using? A. Desktop computer B. Laptop computer C. Laptop computer with fancy lights That's why I said 'average life-span'.
  6. With my old computer from 2012 I had to leave it off, or my frame rate would plummet. With my new(er) computer from 2018, it does not matter whether I have ALM off or on. SO it's always on. So my guess, whatever the outcome is of this survey, is that the percentage of people who have ALM off represents the percentage of people who's computer is six to eleven years old or older. That's past the average life-span of a PC, so my other guess is that this percentage is small and rapidly dwindling.
  7. Some griefer once made a replicator with tiny little tortured prims that were hard to see, select, inspect or delete - especially for someone with little experience with building and land management - which is a lot of people. The griefer in question would put these prims in a spawner and gift this to the newbies of SL. Each little spawned prim contained a list of people to harrass by constantly sending them IMs with very long lines with cursing and swearing and big unicode characters that would flood their screens. These people (including me) were put on this list out of spite, because they had an argument with said griefer. It was impossible to block these spamming prims, because new prims would rez constantly, without their unwitting owners ever knowing, other than that their land would run out of prims and they would not understand why. This device caused a real crisis in SL. It was a big burden on the grid's chat network. Offline IMs were capped for months for many people. it probably cost Linden Lab many months to clear the grid of these nasty things. Lesson learned: if someone harasses you the second you enter their 'territory' (public sandboxes), don't engage in any conversation with them. Block, ban, and if possible, Abuse Report and go on with your life elsewhere. These are criminal psychopaths and you are not a therapist or law enforcement. Leave it to the professionals.
  8. The entire body is likely No Mod, so you would not be able to reset the scripts. Once a stack-heap collision occurs in a No Mod object, there's nothing you can do about it anymore. The only two possible fixes are to either try and find another copy of the same body in your inventory and use that one, or have one redelivered from the redelivery terminal.
  9. Marketplace Search / sort by Relevance seems to have been restored (rolled back?) to pre-2023, ('pre-ChatGPT'?) again, as far as I can tell.
  10. I'm gonna say something crazy here: I bet LL saw their income from their 10% proceeds from MP sales double since they rolled back their 'Relevance' search algorithm last week.
  11. Just add an elaborate excuse as to why you don't do Voice in SL, obfuscate with 'no cam, no pics', add that you're bisexual but prefer girls, include a quote by Albert Einstein and you're good to go. Excuses for being so oddly specific, btw, but you'd be amazed to learn how many female avatars in SL each tick all of the above boxes.
  12. Reflections on glass are a bit wonky. The darker parts are alpha blending, but above a certain threshold, it becomes masking (100% opaque) instead. I'm not sure it that's because of technical restrictions or unintentional, or maybe I missed a setting. [Update] In most environment settings, especially high-ambient lighting, it looks fine. With the standard 'Midday' setting it looks weird. But then everything looks weird with Midday.
  13. No worries, I'm a complete amateur myself. It's everyone's world, everyone's imagination, right? Also, I agree that 'professional' should be taken with a grain of salt.
  14. SL will run like a dream on most 2000-$ computers. Unless your avatar is standing in a region that's landscaped and furnished with mesh objects that are made by amateurs. That's would be almost all the time, almost everywhere. Don't expect a dramatic increase in frame rate in SL with the latest and greatest hardware. The bottleneck will always be whether you're surrounded by mesh objects and mesh clothing with badly-optimized LoDs and rendering costs.
  15. For SL it might make some difference depending on what you are doing in there. There may be a slight improvement in responsiveness when it comes to moving your avatar around and when it comes to editing items in-world. There will definitely be an improvement in bulk-uploading sounds and images. But don't just do it for SL. Do it for future proofing and an overall better internet experience, including file-sharing, backing up, other cloud-based tasks. And also, internet speeds over fiber may increase with better cheaper technologies over time, where copper-based internet tech will likely stagnate. [Update] It's definitely better for screen-sharing/streaming in Discord, Skype or the like.
  16. Or professional editors to show them how to buy or rent land and a house and rez it and decorate it, or do breedables and rpg games and a professional for everything.
  17. I have this utterly brilliant, and totally original new idea. Are you ready? How about giving newbies a demo outfit in a folder that requires a simple 'Replace Outfit' instead of making them log into a strange account? Seems simpler, faster, safer and legaller.
  18. Long ago, there were sandboxes (I believe Little Blue/Fermi) that had speed-building contests. I'd love to see those again. With prims, of course - everything in-world. [Edit] The hobo community also had a game called Primsumption. It was like Pictionary, but in 3D - the audience had to guess what was being built by a contestant.
  19. Oh, here's a few common achievements that deserve a medal, or at least an honorable mention on a leader board: Attached plywood box on right hand Made plywood box say "Hello, avatar." Being caged and orbited in sandbox Can't stop dancing after TP Detached rigged hair upon adding wearing freebie *** Bitten by a vampire Being adopted Feet in ground Ran away from family Joined vampire clan Witnessed vampire clan disband after drama Friends faking their RL disease/death (5 = Level 1, 50 = Level 2, etc.) Nude beach *** trap dodged Married (5 = Level 1, 50 = Level 2, etc.) Unpartnered (5 = Level 1, 50 = Level 2, etc.) Given birth to twins (5 = Level 1, 50 = Level 2, etc.) Paid L$5000 for 'rare' breedable Sitting inside a chair until someone tells you to turn off your AO Double-click TP & land at fixed landing point blues Suffered irretrievable loss of valuable No Copy objects Clicking 'x+' and then 'y+' and then 'z+' and then 'z-' before avatar moves in correct direction upon adjusting position Group slot ceiling reached Making 'bonk bonk bonk' sounds while trying to fly Encountered 12 year-old boys with nude female avatars being loud and obnoxious on Voice Receiving 'constructive criticism' pertaining appearance from complete stranger Bonus achievement: finding furniture with actual poseballs on non-abandoned land Oh man, I could go on all day. So many achievements to unlock.
