  1. No, oddly enough, it does not - LOL. You would THINK that it would need to be in those "alcove" areas, but you can't rez anywhere on the ground floor - well perhaps the front porch outside which is part of the same "floor" mesh but outside the house walls. Odd, isn't it. I am happy this thread came up and I looked at that again. I typically like one room houses as they are easier to navigate but this one was vast (by my standards) so it really needed something to break up the space IMHO. Anyway, this is the first time with this ever for me so thought it might happen to someone else. I uploaded my "mesh prim with 6 materials" long ago and use it often for all sorts of things. I uploaded with Firestorm I am sure and would suspect that I uploaded it as a regular prim with just it's own default (high) physics. I can't imagine why I would have analyzed it, as it was for things like shadow prims and extra prims for couples animations etc. So analyzing MIGHT solve the issue. I did remember that Drongle said to upload as "solid" long ago. Then that was no longer a possibility in FS and so I forgot all about that. Normally I don't have any issues with physics -- even with Firestorm. I did have some weird jerky things on some stairs for awhile but then that disappeared (same mesh) so must have been the server and not the physics model :D.
  2. Wanted to add something here as I haven't had any rezzing issues on floors in for-e-ver and JUST did a week or so ago. I went back just now and finally discovered the problem. The house worked FINE when I was testing and then (to my mind anyway) changed and I couldn't rez on the floor. I checked parts for "prim and convex hull status" and that wasn't it. In the end I added an invisible prim on the floor with "fixed" things but not happy about it. NOW looking at the "environment" around the house I figure out what the issue was. This is a larger house than I usually make and it has an open second floor -- where objects rez just fine. That got me thinking and I took out the single mesh "prim" walls that I had added and THOSE made the issue. The house itself as uploaded let's you rez on the ground floor just fine. So THIS can cause and issue too. The mesh prim partial walls can't be set to PRIM. I am pretty sure I could replace them with regular prims but that isn't any better than putting in an invisible floor prim so will just leave things. BUT very happy to have figured out WHY it was originally fine and then "changed" Here are some photos to explain should this be an issue for anyone else. This is the inside with the added walls and nothing will rez inside the house (two single mesh prims used as the walls - they cannot be set as "prim"). If I take the walls OUT, things works as expected and rezzing is fine.
  3. Well for my alt on the beta grid, the new TOS thing comes up EACH AND EVERY TIME you log on so checking is pretty much futile. I am not rereading each time so hopefully I didn't agree to something I don't know about. :D.
  4. While I typically hang around in jeans or sweats while I am working, I got dressed up in fantasy garb for a not all that regular these days blog post. Depth of Field shot.
  5. Just wanted to update as I JUST got the Creator's Update this morning ( silly me, I thought it had installed in the night LOL). So that had nothing to do with the Blender crashes. They seem to have stopped on their own so some other software conflict that an autoupdate fixed maybe. I am ALSO very careful moving those node sliders in RENDERED mode now too and always save, so the "fix" may partly be me too.
  6. Hi there. This video might be helpful. On rereading your post though it looks like you aren't looking at your actual pattern WHILE IN BLENDER? If that is true then I can certainly see that you would have issues. I haven't made a video on this yet but hopefully this one will help. It certainly helped me a LOT way back when. This is in Blender Render as I recall but works the same in cycles should you be using that. This is stepping up into advanced territory -- at least it certainly seemed that way to me when I was learning it. EVEN IF YOU DON'T USE THIS METHOD --- just looking at your actual texture rather than the grid will help a lot. Maybe you already are doing that though :D. Good luck. Alignment is a great skill to have for sure. Takes some time though and a steady hand!
  7. I was helping someone with this the other day. It CAN be that there is a temporary issue (it was for her and she had lost of one of a kind (not even a gacha) breedable so was happy when it indeed came back the next day as I suggested it might. There can also be house issues but you probably know if this happens often or just now and then. There WERE some MAJOR rezzing and inventory issues earlier in the week so that could be part of your current issue as some folks are still having trouble. For goodness sakes, don't try rezzing MORE when things aren't working -- no copy items anyway. One trick that sometimes works is not to rez but to ATTACH whatever it is (even a house will work) to see if it will rez. If it does, then you have a much better chance of the item rezzing when dragged to ground. That would NOT have helped this week though as attachments weren't working at all. Best really to just wait and hope those things come back tomorrow (or soon but usually a half day or day does it). I have lost my Kitty quite a few times, panicked and she came back the next day as happy as always.
  8. Thanks. Yes, I am guessing the confusion is about the levels. I didn't see any info about that in the instructions except how to block -- and yes, your info is the link I was going by. This is likely a very specific issue since when I first went to my "My Places" area (what I mentioned as the backend) I could see -- or at least REMEMBER seeing the listing for three parcels (two are group parcels and one was my PARCEL (now that I am looking for that) for LEA12 with MY name on it. This had the "not in search" declaration and I understood that. The other was the REGION parcel and that said TRUE next to it and it did come up in search, just basically empty. Since I edited the listing, it is gone from the search results although the page is there. So it appears that should I want a Places Page for LEA12 I need to put the info on the PARCEL section, not the region section (which seems like it should only be editable by the region landowner but is not :D) OR I may only need to turn on search since my parcel is the whole sim, not a "lot". It is a very PRETTY page and the interface easy to use (except for that three picture in a six picture widget) but honestly I don't see anyone searching the places pages. With all the unrelated web stuff coming up on top it is beyond confusing (I found some other comments on this). So some gold stars for making the pages easy to edit, but some demerits for not having the pages as useful as they could be. I had heard chatter on this but didn't understand it until I made the page. And obviously, now that I pay attention, all the extra non-related search results must come from the search engine that is being used :(. Smarter now and hopefully this will help some other folks. I enjoyed making the page but agree with others that it isn't all that useful -- yet, anyway. I remember long, LONG ago (like eight or nine years) when you could search for "fly swatter" and get a listing of all the actual fly swatters and the EXACT location of the items (for sale or not). I used that a lot to find product. But of course the world was MUCH smaller then so that is pretty impractical now. And the LEA kiosks are housed at LEA3 as sort of a showcase. The first two turned on (because we sent in our info right away) became the ones that showed up for the regions (two different landowner over many regions). I thought maybe the plan was that when each region was listed via the kiosks that they THEN appeared in the Places Search, but apparently that was in incorrect guess. I do appreciate your reply! Onward with other projects that will be more noticeable. Meanwhile, while doing a search on the Places Pages for LEA I found a now gone page. This is a SUPER clever Oops page. so wanted to give credit to whoever thought it up.
  9. Actually if you want a perfectly matched skirt and can fit the UV map into a 1024 x 512 which looks possible in this case, you can THEN stretch the texture to fill the whole area and still match. You can either align the single rectangle EXACTLY to the edges (this assuming it is a tiling texture of course) or if needed you can use a UV map node (fairly complex to explain but I can look up a video -- not mine -- should this seem like a good plan. The bottom line is that it CAN be done and actually fairly easily but you really need to get the skirt with just one seam or line up the UV map perfectly on the UV mapping plane.
  10. I just made an interim Places Page for my LEA12 installation. All went well and smoothly. But of course there is a "but". ^^ The slide show has places for six 852 photos but there are only places in the back end to upload three. So??? Only three? Since my page is up but not showing in search I am guessing that gets updated on Tuesday? My LEA page (there are two instances in the back end, one mine and one original and I updated the original as it was in search and working with nothing in there) says TRUE under status so assuming that means it will show again eventually? Here is the page in question. https://places.secondlife.com/regions/48024/lea12 I do understand that places pages need have "show in search checked" according to the instructions, but this page was already IN search and I edited, so that makes this a bit confusing. Since this is new, there isn't much info on how this works for LEA and why there are two listings that I see of the same land. PS. I am just guessing but since there were only two LEA sims showing up in Search and I the other one opened on Thursday LEA19 and supposedly sent in his info for the kiosk, I am guessing (just guessing) that the listings for LEA may have something to do with the kiosks since I sent in my info like a good girl. That may or may not be relevant but thought I would add the info. Thanks. Also when I went to search for LEA12 this is what showed up in the listing and I am thinking that is NOT supposed to be there. Thanks for any help on this. A bit of research turned up other odd instances like this so guess it is normal -- -if not correct.
  11. No great trick as I do this manually when needed. One tip might be to make your skirt textures ALIGNED so that you only have one seam (or a semblance of that effect). I will say that practice makes it faster (I do a lot of bricks which need to be aligned. It is possible on the texture shown that you need to change the X sizing so that it is smaller or larger than your current UV layout so that you CAN get the pattern to match. So I guess two "hints" that might help some. Of course the other answer is to pick a pattern that is easier to align but you knew that already.
  12. Generally you want lamps on all for sides (this is assuming you are using cycles). The power on the lamp will depend on how far they are away from your garment. Here is a snapshot of a general layout. You will need to experiment on strength and placement as it will depend a lot on the look you want. You can also of course just save a copy of the UV map and not bake at all, doing all the graphics in your graphics program. Lots of folks do clothes that way.
  13. OK. A little more seriousness here :D. Statistics show that SL is in "decline". What does that mean? Well less people own land than before. Mainland is indeed fairly deserted (Chic claps as all her places are on mainland these days and NOT having neighbors is a glorious thing). The other day I saw that the map where my shop is had WATER across the road. I zipped down to ground level, a strange break from my building pad, to find that the moles or "maintenance" or whoever had turned the now empty lot across from me into water. They have been doing this all along the coast road and it is pretty thrilling to have more of a view :D. I have been in Swanbridge a year and a half now and watched as folks come and go --- seemingly thinking that they can make a buck on a turnover OR just putting up shop. It has been it's own soap opera. (I lived in a trailer park in my high school years and there is NOTHING more nosy than the trailer park crowd.) Business is up and down depending on who you are and what you make. Mine was up a lot through the winter but now not so much. Creators (many anyway) are working harder and selling cheaper in order to compete with -- OK, let's be honest -- some folks that really make pretty awful stuff LOL. And that's OK. Really. If the folks buying are happy, then I am happy for them. It is only pixels anyway. I have also watched a lot of brands get less -- well, let's say "invested" in their products. Faulty mesh, sloppy textures, hurried designs. Not EVERYONE of course. There are still some wonderfully creative and well crafted items being made, but I pitch about 75% of what I get in to blog these days simply because I decided somewhere in the Spring that I wasn't going to feature items with "issues". I have even found myself thinking a time or two, "well, that's pretty much OK. No one (read buyers) really cares anyway. In the end I slap myself in the face (imaginarily of course) and fix the problem to the best of my ability. But there is still that Siren's call of "but no one really cares" in the echos of the last dance. Were things always this way? I really don't know. But as creators earn less and less for more and more work, there comes a tipping point for many (and I am not saying I won't get there). So THAT is what I see as one of the biggest current issues. Venues are closing right and left. Others are starting up to replace them with high hopes and good intentions. Event owners need to pay those bills and sometimes fill slots with less than talented folks. Honestly I think this is a good thing in one way, but I have seen that trend lead to closure of many events. Once the folks that actually SHOP and BUY decide it isn't worth coming to see the 10% of folks that they like -- the traffic goes downhill quickly and most often becomes extinct. I have no answer for this, but it has been bothering me for a long time and I have talked to fellow creators about it fairly often. Most are in plugging along mode, and I get that. I decided to switch gears a few months ago. I am making "art" now (well what can I say it may turn out to be art when it is all finished) and along the way I end up with "products". Those products get into events (less now as I have exited a fair amount of venues). But in the shift of gears from "retailer" to "artist" I have found a more fun way of creating -- and that has helped me a lot. We each need to find our own path. Personally I think SL will be around for quite awhile still. Sansar, while it may grow into something fine in the future, doesn't seem to be so well received by the masses. I am no longer working for dollars, I am working for enjoyment so I suspect I will be around here for a long time.
  14. Yes, there was a notice long before it came into being. Some chatter here on the forums. If you look back in the official SL "blog" posts you will likely find the announcement. Always good to read those now and then. Notices don't go out in email or anything like that so it is your responsibility as a citizen to keep informed.
  15. You DID note @redlght that this thread is OVER FOUR YEARS OLD. We still seem to be there. Everyone and everything is dying -- even (and especially) Mother Earth. We will be here for as long as we will be here -- and enjoy ourselves in the process.
  16. Well, IF some similar bodies like this do work they could be "A" below the tris per material limit (see at least I remembered this time) or "B" the person making might have made an "inside" (as in a wine glass which is actually the only thing that I have used all the phong tricks on) hence negating the phong thing. Actually I have made quite a few glasses after that post (thanks for finding) and I have had no issues at all as long as I used one material for the inside and one for the outside. Just to make sure I got one from inventory and made a bunch. No triangles to be seen and I didn't do anything except for the two materials trick (so not all the steps in that old post). My thinking is that they did something on the server or uploader that fixed the issue. We certainly do get LARGE photos these days LOL. It is considerable smaller in my snippet! *wink*.
  17. Well a lot of times I do mean save as in the blend file, but likely there was a time of two in there that I "should" have said EXPORT. When I learned my computer stuff long long ago, they didn't use the term EXPORT (my graphics program also uses that tern now). So I do have a tendency (unnoticed but thanks) to use "Save" for "Export" as you are in effect saving the dae file LOL. Hopefully folks will figure that out easily enough and I am pretty sure I WAS correct in the beginning tutorials when people were starting out :D. Hopefully anyway. Cheers. And there are of course OTHER ways to do what this tutorial did, I was just picking what seemed the easiest to me, not necessarily the most eloquent *wink*.
  18. Good point. I remember a LOT of that happening when we had that "turn things to convex hull and get a land bonus" thing as new. A friend of mine turned some sculpts to convex hull and much of her sim disappeared into lost and found. So THAT could have been the issue and not rezzing.
  19. Long, LONG gone many years ago. There was someone still keeping track of amount of land but the other statistics are very hard to come by. And as will all statistics difficult to say how accurate. Well lindens bought and sold would be pretty easy if someone is posting that. I will be interested to see if there is actually a place these days, but certainly haven't heard about it.
  20. OK. There is also an issue called "phong" and you can look that up in the forums. I thought that was taken care of by the uploader now as I haven't had any issues in a year and a half or more, but "could be". In general IF you mesh has two sides you need to have two different materials (one inside and one outside) because of the alpha glitches. There is much more to it than that but IF it could be the issue, just look up the threads :D. AND 26K poly is over the limit if it is one material, so in this case that is likely the issue. Not sure about the others. And yes, be sure and READ that link (and below the bullet points).
  21. I spent all day (ALL DAY) making an Intermediate Blender tutorial. Happily I also have a pretty picture of the objects I used in the tutorial over on LEA12. Video is here for any mesh making addicts: https://youtu.be/789HEWcYyp0
  22. This took ALL day (and that wasn't making the gravestones LOL) so hopefully someone will learn something *wink*.
  23. OK. Are you sure this isn't a test from arton (just kidding). Looks for one like your texture is transparent when it shouldn't be? That is an "undocumented feature" in the current Blender (hopefullyl fixed in the upcoming version) that automatically changes the texture to alpha when you save it the second time IF you don't be sure and check RGB when saving. Second you may have too many triangles in your mesh and the uploader is making a NEW material for you as you have gone past the limit? Those are my two guesses :D. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Limits#Mesh
  24. One of the best things you can do for yourself withe Win10 (and I actually like it a lot) is turn off ALL THE OPTIONS in settings (much is spyware and also "share my bandwidth as I don't CARE that I spend $100 a month for it I am a nice guy). I use Chrome now as Firefox just stopped working on SO many sites. HEED THE WARNINGS!!!!!! It is NOT the Marketplace.
  25. IF I, the typist looked as good as Chic, I would have no worries at all
